How a bulk order actually gets placed in India

CSI is a live Shopify store, and for most makers under a hundred candles a month the cart is the fastest route — 15 waxes, 92 fragrance oils, 80 containers and 7 wick lines are listed with their variants and prices. Bulk moves to WhatsApp for three unglamorous reasons: stock has to be confirmed variant by variant, freight and lead time depend on your pincode and on whether the box is heavy or fragile, and documentation has to be raised against your GSTIN. A price list answers none of them.

Stock is why this matters most. On the September 2026 pull, Soy Wax 464 Pellets were out in all three sizes, the Frosted Brown and Orange Frosted jars were out, and the Pink Matte Glass Jar was available in packs of 10 but not packs of 5. A bulk order is not a bulk order if one of its eight lines is unavailable in the colour your customer approved. Get the stock confirmation before you get the price.

Four gates to clear before you commit

A bulk order converts working capital into inventory. Good trade when it moves, bad trade when it sits. These four gates decide which, and they apply per SKU, not per order — one untested line can sour an otherwise sensible purchase.

"Bulk" is one decision per category, not one decision. The test is simple: open the product page and see whether the per-unit rate actually changes between pack sizes. On some CSI lines it drops steeply. On others it is identical from the smallest pack to the largest, and the big pack buys supply security and fewer courier bills — nothing else. Storage and shelf life in Indian conditions

India gives raw materials two problems and they arrive at different times of year. Heat is a summer problem and it acts on the wax. Soy wax is a solid fat with a low melting point; a carton against a west-facing wall in May softens, slumps under its own weight and re-solidifies as a block, and a once-melted block is harder to weigh accurately. Humidity is a monsoon problem and it acts on almost everything except the wax — cotton wick spools, label adhesive, printed cartons and outer packaging all suffer long before a sealed bag of flakes does.

The two age by different mechanisms, which is why one rule cannot cover both. Wax degrades mechanically and thermally: it deforms with heat, takes on odours from a shared cupboard, collects dust if the bag is left open. Fragrance oil degrades chemically: it oxidises on contact with air, and light and heat accelerate that. A half-used 1 kg bottle, opened weekly with a growing volume of air above the liquid, is worse off than an unopened one however long you have had either.

Scale the storage question to the order. A 10 kg wax carton is the footprint of a small suitcase. Fifty kilograms of Natural Soy Pearl Wax at ₹21,240 is not: it is the largest single pack CSI lists, and it needs a genuinely cool corner off a floor that could take water. Meanwhile 100 Mini Glass Jars weigh little and eat a surprising amount of shelf. Bulk buying is a space decision as much as a money decision — the constraint scaling to 1,000 orders a month is about.

Freight, breakage, and why jars behave nothing like wax

Two of the six published reviews at the top of this page are complaints about shipping cost, and they are kept there deliberately. Mahak agarwal: "their shipment charges were too higb for me! Other wise the quality is top noch". Manasa GN, a verified buyer: "the delivery charges are very high which is restricting me to purchase more". Both are five-star reviews from people who kept buying. Freight in India is expensive, and it behaves very differently across the categories on one order.

The mechanism is simple. Wax is dense and cheap to move — ten kilograms of flakes arrives as one compact box and survives handling. Glass is the opposite: light for the volume it occupies, and fragile. A hundred 200 ml jars are mostly air by weight, so they are often charged on volumetric weight rather than actual weight, and the protective packing adds further bulk. That is why freight on a jar order can look wildly out of proportion to its value while freight on a wax order of the same rupee value looks reasonable. Oil sits in the middle: dense, but a leak risk, so packed defensively.

The consolidation rule follows: one order a month beats four, and it beats them on freight before anything else. Build one monthly list — wax, the proven oils, the standardised vessel, wicks, dyes and care stickers — and send it as a single enquiry rather than reordering each time a line runs out.
