What happens when you skip wick stickers

Three things happen, in this order. First — the wick drifts during pour. When you pour 80°C wax into the jar, the molten wax exerts buoyancy and lateral flow forces on whatever is anchored at the bottom. Without proper adhesion, the wick tab releases, the wick floats, drifts, and lands wherever the wax current pushed it — usually 5-15mm off-centre. Second — the wick sits crooked. An off-centre wick burns at an angle, which means the melt pool develops asymmetrically. One side of the candle melts faster than the other. The candle tunnels on the slow side and pools too aggressively on the fast side.

Third — the wick mushrooms or sputters during burn. Crooked wicks experience uneven oxygen flow because the flame is no longer centred over the melt pool.
