The honest answer has two halves. The quantity of fragrance in the jar does not change at all — not by a gram. What changes is how much of it your nose receives, and for base-heavy families that usually rises for two to three weeks.

Quick answers — read this first
Does a curing candle gain fragrance? No. A 200 g candle poured at 8% contains 16 g of oil on day one and 16 g on day twenty-one. Nothing is added, and in a lidded jar nothing measurable leaves. Every real change is in how the candle releases what it already holds.
So why does it smell stronger after two weeks? Because the wax has finished settling and the fragrance has finished distributing through it, so more of the blend is available at the surface and in the melt pool. Perceived strength moves; content does not.
Does it always improve? No — and CSI's own pages say so. The Citrus Lemon page warns that citrus oils are "notorious for fading in candles faster than warmer fragrance families". Direction depends on note structure.
How do I know which is happening to my candle? Score it blind at day 2, 7, 14 and 21 on a 1–5 scale. An eight-jar ladder costs about ₹1,920 and replaces a year of arguing with your own data.
The short answer
Content is fixed, release is not: the 16 g of oil in a 200 g candle at 8% is a constant. Treat "does it get stronger" as a question about release and perception, because that is the only half that can move.
Direction follows the note pyramid: base-heavy vanilla, coffee, amber, oud and vetiver profiles typically read stronger at day 14–21. Top-heavy citrus and fresh profiles typically peak earlier and then hold or soften.
Measure, do not remember: two jars per gate, scored blind on a 1–5 scale, cold first and hot second, by someone who does not know the jar's age. Nose memory across three weeks is worthless as evidence.
The upper row is the reason this question has a definite answer: fragrance content is fixed by your recipe and stays fixed. The lower row is the reason it feels like a debate — it is an empty column on almost every maker's bench, and an empty column invites opinion.
Does the fragrance in a candle actually get stronger while it cures?
The fragrance does not increase; the candle's ability to release it does. Split the question and both halves become answerable. On quantity: a 200 g candle poured at an 8% load contains 16 g of oil and 184 g of wax, and that is still true three weeks later — there is no chemistry in a lidded jar at room temperature that manufactures more fragrance. On perception: yes, for most base-heavy blends the candle reads stronger at day 14 to 21 than at 48 hours, because the wax has finished crystallising and the oil has finished distributing through that structure, so more of the blend presents at the surface and, once lit, in the melt pool. CSI's own product pages describe the same phenomenon in their own words — the Vetiver page says "Vetiver builds slowly - allow full cure before assessing throw", and the Woody Oud page says oriental oils "benefit from full cure time to develop their best cold throw". The direction is not universal. The Citrus Lemon page states plainly that citrus fragrances are "notorious for fading in candles faster than warmer fragrance families", which means a top-heavy blend can peak early and then hold or soften. So stop asking whether fragrance gets stronger and start asking what your own oil does in your own wax, scored blind at four gates. That costs about ₹1,920 in materials and eight jars, and it settles the question permanently for that family.
One line: the grams never change, the release does — so the only honest answer is the one written in your own score sheet at days 2, 7, 14 and 21.

Start with the half of the question that has an arithmetic answer, because it removes half the argument.
Fragrance load in this series is a share of the finished candle. A 200 g candle at 8% is 184 g of wax and 16 g of oil; at 10% it is 180 g and 20 g; at the 13% ceiling stated on the Luxury Soy Wax Chunks page it is 174 g and 26 g. (Some wax pages phrase the percentage as a share "of total wax weight" instead — the Chunks page does — so state your convention when you write a recipe down.) Whichever convention you use, the number is set at the moment you stir and it is never revised.
That matters because it rules out an entire class of explanation. A candle that reads weak at day 2 and strong at day 18 has not acquired fragrance. A candle that reads strong at day 2 and thin at day 18 has not lost a meaningful quantity either, provided the lid was on — the air space above the wax in a 120 g or 200 g jar is small, and a closed jar has nowhere to vent to. What has changed in both cases is the route the fragrance takes out of the wax, and that route is physical: the crystal structure it sits in, and the surface it presents.

The mistake: treating a cure as a substitute for a load decision, or the reverse. These are two independent dials and they are often confused. The load decides how much fragrance exists in the candle; the cure decides how much of it reaches a room. A candle at 6% cured for 21 days and a candle at 10% cured for 48 hours are not two points on one scale — they are two different problems. Raise the load only after a fully cured candle has told you the ceiling of its release, never before. The third row is the one worth dwelling on, because it explains why two makers can be equally honest and completely disagree. A blend is built as a pyramid. Light, volatile top notes are legible immediately. Heavy base molecules take longest to distribute and are also the ones that survive a melt pool. So a base-heavy blend gains on both counts as the weeks pass: more of its dominant material becomes available, and that material is the kind that carries when lit. A top-heavy blend has less to gain — its headline material was already available on day two, and its job across the cure is to stay legible rather than to arrive.
The fourth row is the one that actually decides most arguments. You know which jar is older. You poured it, you waited three weeks for it, and you want it to be better. That is not dishonesty, it is ordinary human perception, and it is why every protocol below insists on a covered label and, where possible, a second person.
What this page is not claiming
No page on this site publishes laboratory measurements of fragrance concentration over time, and this one does not either. What it publishes is the arithmetic of your own recipe, the wording stated on CSI product pages, and a protocol you can run at your own bench. Three oils, three cure directions
These three are chosen because their own pages point in different directions, which makes them the cheapest way to see the effect for yourself. Each table lists every size, the price per kilogram, and how many 120 g jars at 8% (9.6 g of oil) a pack covers — the jar size the eight-jar ladder below uses.

Gourmand · expect a late climb
Vanilla Bean Fragrance Oil
The archetype for "it got stronger". Its page states the main aroma as "Creamy, sweet vanilla with subtle caramel undertones" and the strength as "Moderate to strong, providing a warm and inviting throw" — a description that lives entirely in base material. Stated technical figures: flashpoint 203°C, a recommended load of "Up to 10% for soy wax", and a cure time of "48–72 hours for soy wax". Note the page's own discolouration warning, because it matters for a three-week cure in a white wax: "Vanillin Content: 2.5% (Potential discoloration; test with lighter waxes or consider adding color stabilizers)". A vanilla that yellows over 21 days is not a fault appearing — it is the stated vanillin doing exactly what the page says, and it is a reason to photograph the batch on day 21 rather than day 2.

Roasted Coffee Fragrance Oil
A useful second data point because it is loud young and still improves. The page states top notes "Fresh coffee beans", middle "Dark chocolate, rich espresso", base "Vanilla, caramel" — a roasted top over a vanillin-bearing base, so both ends of the pyramid are doing work. Stated figures: flashpoint "~191-193°C", vanillin "Present ... test in white wax before full batch production", soy load 6–10% with "Cure time - 48 to 72 hours for best scent throw", and the instruction "Always cure soy wax candles for at least 48-72 hours before burn testing for best scent throw." At ₹3.738 per gram at 1 kg it is also the cheapest of the three to run a ladder with. CSI customer Arminder Kaur describes it as "quite strong and feels like yummy".

The control in the middle of the range, and the one whose stated structure predicts a flatter curve. Its page states top notes "Sea salt, ozone", middle "Jasmine, lily of the valley" and base "Driftwood, musk" — an airy opening over a modest base, so there is less to arrive late. Stated figures: flashpoint "143°C 290°F - add to wax cooled to recommended pour temp", vanillin "0% No discolouration - safe for white and light-coloured wax", "Phthalate-Free Yes", and a soy load of "Up to 10% Cure time - 48 to 72 hours for best cold and hot throw". That 143°C figure is the lowest stated value among the three oils here, which is a handling note rather than a throw note: follow the page and add to wax at the wax's stated temperature, then log it. The 15 g size is currently sold out; 50 g is the smallest listed.

Do not compare cure behaviour across two oils in one batch. If you pour a vanilla and a citrus together and the vanilla is better at day 21, you have learned that you prefer vanilla — not that vanilla cures better. Cure behaviour is a comparison of one oil against itself at different ages, which is why the ladder below runs a single scent. Once you have two ladders, you can compare their shapes. How to measure perceived strength instead of guessing
Perception is measurable. It is just not measurable by remembering.
This is a protocol to run, not a result anyone has produced for you. Eight jars of one scent, two burned at each of four gates, scored blind on a 1–5 scale. The point is not precision — a 1–5 score from one nose is crude. The point is that a crude number recorded on the day beats a confident memory three weeks later, every time.

If you can arrange four people across the four gates, better — but one uninformed second opinion removes most of the bias a single invested maker brings. Write their score in its own column; never average it into yours before you have looked at both.

This is the only comparison in the whole exercise where two candles are smelled side by side, and it is the one that converts four rows of scores into a decision. A candle does not gain fragrance while it cures. It gains the ability to give the fragrance away.
Every gram you will ever sell went into the jar on pouring day. The cure decides how much of it the customer meets — which is why a maker who reads a young candle and buys more oil is paying to solve a problem that three weeks of patience was already solving.

One caution about the fourth shape. A genuine decline and a storage failure look identical on a score sheet, and only your cure conditions can tell them apart. A candle stored lidless, in sunlight, or in a room that swings from 24°C to 35°C every day has been given three weeks of abuse rather than three weeks of cure. Before you conclude that an oil fades, confirm that the jars were lidded, boxed and stable — and if they were not, run the ladder again properly before you change your range.

The cheapest instrument in this guide is a second person
No equipment on the market removes expectation bias. A neighbour who does not know which jar is which does, in about four minutes, for nothing. If you are serious about a launch, build a four-person panel from friends and family and use the same four people every time — consistency of panel matters more than size of panel for a one-maker business.
What the answer is worth in rupees
This is not an academic question, and the cost of guessing runs in both directions. Take the commonest reaction to a young candle that reads weak: raise the load from 8% to 10%.
On a 200 g candle that is 16 g of oil rising to 20 g. In Vanilla Bean at ₹7,646 per kilogram — ₹7.646 per gram — the fragrance cost rises from ₹122.34 to ₹152.92, an extra ₹30.58 per candle. Across 100 candles that is ₹3,058; across a 500-candle festive run it is ₹15,292. Spent on a decision made at day 2, before the candle was capable of showing what it could do, and spent on top of the ₹1,920 the ladder would have cost. Note also that Vanilla Bean's page states "Up to 10% for soy wax", so 10% is that oil's stated ceiling — there is no third increase available if 10% also disappoints.
The error runs the other way too. Rejecting a good oil at day 2 costs you the bottle and the batch. A 500 g bottle of Vanilla Bean is ₹3,840 and a 1 kg bottle is ₹7,646; write one off on a day-2 impression and you have paid several times the price of the ladder to reach a conclusion the ladder would have corrected. The oils most likely to be rejected early are exactly the ones the pages warn build slowly — the Vetiver page's "builds slowly" and the Woody Oud page's "benefit from full cure time" are both, read commercially, warnings against early verdicts.
The asymmetry that should settle it. Waiting nineteen more days costs you nothing but calendar. Raising the load costs ₹30.58 a candle for as long as you keep the recipe — ₹15,292 on a single 500-unit run, and again on the next one. One of those two decisions is reversible and free; the other compounds. Run the ladder once per family, and every future load decision is made on a fully cured candle. Testing at four gates means buying small and buying once: 15 g and 50 g trial sizes for shortlisting, 100 g for a ladder, and 500 g or 1 kg only after a cured jar has earned it. For recurring volumes, bulk pricing, GST invoicing and documentation are handled directly on WhatsApp.

Does a candle smell stronger after curing?
Usually yes for base-heavy blends, and the reason is release rather than content. The 16 g of oil in a 200 g candle at 8% is identical on day 1 and day 21; what changes is how much of it reaches the surface and the melt pool once the wax has finished settling. For top-heavy citrus and fresh blends the curve can flatten or fall instead — the Citrus Lemon page warns that citrus fades faster than warmer families. How long before the fragrance stops improving?
For most soy container candles the curve flattens somewhere between day 14 and day 21, later for heavy gourmand and oriental structures. The only way to locate your own flattening point is to score the same recipe at day 2, 7, 14 and 21, which is what the eight-jar ladder above is for. Can fragrance evaporate out of a candle during a long cure?
Not in a meaningful quantity from a lidded jar at a stable room temperature. The air space above the wax is small and a closed jar has nowhere to vent. Losses become real when jars are cured open, stored in sunlight, or kept somewhere that warms and cools every day — the surface softens repeatedly and the top notes go. If a candle genuinely reads weaker at day 21 than day 7, check the storage before you blame the oil.
Should I raise the fragrance load if a fresh candle smells weak?
No — not on a fresh candle's evidence. On a 200 g candle, going from 8% to 10% in Vanilla Bean at ₹7.646 per gram adds ₹30.58 per candle, or ₹15,292 across 500 candles, and it is permanent. Waiting to day 14 or 21 costs nothing and is reversible. Judge the load only on a fully cured jar, and never exceed the ceiling stated on your wax page — 13% for Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, 10% for CSI 464.
Why do two people disagree about whether a cured candle is stronger?
Because unblinded scent comparison is unreliable, in both directions. Nose adaptation makes the second jar smell weaker than the first; order effects make the first jar the baseline; and expectation favours the jar you waited for. Cover the labels, randomise the order, score one jar per session, and use the same uninformed second person every time. All four fixes are free and together they account for most cure arguments.
