How Much Raw Material Is Needed for a 1,000-Piece Corporate Candle Order?
शेयर करना
How much fragrance oil does a 1,000-piece run need? At 8% of wax weight that is 12 g a candle, 12 kg in the candles and 13 kg bought with the 5% wastage allowance — ₹58,905.60 of Woody Oud Fragrance Oil. The wax page states up to 10% and the oil page soy 6–10%; the lower figure governs.
What does a 1,000-piece corporate candle order cost in materials? ₹2,51,066.40 of CSI materials, or ₹251.07 a piece, for wax, oil, wicks, wick stickers, care stickers and lidded glass jars with 5% wastage and 4% spares. Printing, boxes, cartons, freight and labour are not CSI costs and carry no figure here.
Does splitting the order across several scents cost more? Very little at the oil line — the run needs 12.6 kg either way and the extra is leftover stock, ₹10,874.88 of oil at five scents against ₹1,812.48 at one. The real cost is a wick test, a melt, a cure shelf and a packing line per scent. For a corporate gift, one scent is usually right and three is the sensible maximum.
The full material list for 1,000 corporate gift candles
The run costed here is 1,000 pieces at a 150 g fill of Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464, scented at 8% of wax weight — 12 g a candle — with Woody Oud Fragrance Oil, one Eco Candle Wick Thick (C2), one wick sticker and one 1.5 inch care sticker, in a Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid whose page states a 150 g fill capacity, 8 cm height and hot-pour safe to 85°C. The wax page gives 80–90°C as the working range for melting and pouring and a fragrance load of up to 10% of total wax weight; the Woody Oud page gives soy 6–10%. Where the two differ the lower governs, and 8% sits inside both.
Two allowances sit on top of the arithmetic, and both are assumptions stated as assumptions, not CSI data. Melted wax and oil carry 5% wastage — what stays in the melter, the pitcher and the tops you rework. Counted items — wicks, stickers, jars — carry 4% spares, because a corporate order is graded on delivering a full count and because replacements cannot be poured in a hurry. Use your own measured rates as soon as you have them; until then these are the numbers this page works to.
| Line | Needed | With allowance | Packs bought | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 | 150 kg | 157.5 kg at 5% | 15 × 10 kg + 5 kg + 3 × 1 kg = 158 kg | ₹80,169.20 |
| Woody Oud Fragrance Oil at 8% | 12 kg | 12.6 kg at 5% | 12 × 1 kg + 2 × 500 g = 13 kg | ₹58,905.60 |
| Eco Candle Wicks Thick (C2) | 1,000 | 1,040 at 4% | 1,000-pack + 2 × 20-pack | ₹9,817.60 |
| Candle Wick Stickers | 1,000 | 1,040 at 4% | 26 sheets of 40 = 1,040 | ₹2,600.00 |
| Candle Care Stickers Roll 1.5 inch | 1,000 | 1,040 at 4% | 2 rolls of 1,000 | ₹1,398.00 |
| Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid | 1,000 | 1,040 at 4% | 104 packs of 10 | ₹98,176.00 |
| CSI materials, 1,000-piece run | — | — | — | ₹2,51,066.40 |
| Per piece delivered | — | — | — | ₹251.07 |
The theoretical cost of one candle at this build is ₹237.52. The cost of the run divided by 1,000 is ₹251.07 — ₹13.54 more, because you buy whole packs, you pour spares and you lose wax to the equipment. Quote and plan from ₹251.07. The difference is not waste; most of it walks out of the door as the 40 spare candles or stays on your shelf as the tail of a sticker roll, but none of it should be missing from the number you give the buyer.
Where the money actually is
At a 150 g fill in a lidded glass jar, the vessel is the largest single line in the run: ₹98,176.00 against ₹80,169.20 of wax and ₹58,905.60 of fragrance oil. Wicks, wick stickers and care stickers together are ₹13,815.60 — about 5.5% of the total. That ranking should decide where you spend your negotiating energy and where you spend your testing time.
| Line | Cost for 1,000 pieces | Share of run | Per piece | Lever |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vessels | ₹98,176.00 | 39.1% | ₹94.40 | Biggest lever. A different vessel changes the run more than anything else |
| Wax | ₹80,169.20 | 31.9% | ₹76.11 | Fill weight is the lever, not the grade |
| Fragrance oil | ₹58,905.60 | 23.5% | ₹54.37 | Load and oil choice; ceilings cap the top end |
| Wicks and stickers | ₹13,815.60 | 5.5% | ₹9.44 + ₹2.50 + ₹0.70 | Small money, large consequences — do not economise here |
| Total | ₹2,51,066.40 | 100% | ₹251.07 | — |
Test the levers rather than assuming them. Swapping the Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid for the Black Glass Jar with Black Lid, also a stated 150 g fill, moves the vessel line by ₹12.60 a piece and ₹13,104.00 across the run — one vessel decision worth more than a fifth of the entire fragrance bill. Moving to a Tin Container 135 gram at ₹96.76 a unit is a different product, not a cheaper version of this one, and for a corporate gift the lid and the glass are usually the point. The lesson is not that one is better; it is that the vessel is the decision to spend a week on.
One scent or several: what actually changes
The instinct is that multiple scents make a run dearer. At the oil line, they barely do. The run needs 12.6 kg of fragrance oil in total whether that is one scent or five; what changes is how much of each you have to buy, because you can only buy the packs that exist. The table below holds the price constant at the Woody Oud rate so the effect is visible on its own.
| Scents | Needed per scent | Bought per scent | Total oil cost | Left over | Value left over |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 12.6 kg | 13 kg | ₹58,905.60 | 0.4 kg | ₹1,812.48 |
| 2 | 6.3 kg | 13 kg | ₹58,905.60 | 0.4 kg | ₹1,812.48 |
| 3 | 4.2 kg | 13.5 kg | ₹61,171.20 | 0.9 kg | ₹4,078.08 |
| 4 | 3.15 kg | 14 kg | ₹63,436.80 | 1.4 kg | ₹6,343.68 |
| 5 | 2.52 kg | 15 kg | ₹67,968.00 | 2.4 kg | ₹10,874.88 |
Five scents leaves 2.4 kg of oil on the shelf worth ₹10,874.88 against the single-scent leftover of ₹1,812.48. That is not money burnt — it is next quarter's stock, and if you sell those scents at retail it is stock you would have bought anyway. It only becomes a loss if the scents were chosen for this one order and nobody wants them afterwards, which is the actual argument against a five-scent corporate run.
Change the oils and the arithmetic moves the other way. Three scents at 4.5 kg each using Woody Oud (₹20,390.40), Eucalyptus Spearmint (₹13,924.00) and Fallen Leaves (₹19,116.00) comes to ₹53,430.40 — ₹5,475.20 less than the single-scent Woody Oud plan, because two of the three are cheaper per gram. A multi-scent run is not automatically dearer in oil. Watch the pack rates as you split, though: Eucalyptus Spearmint is ₹3,068.00 at 1 kg, a rate of ₹3,068.00 a kilogram, while its 500 g pack works out at ₹3,304.00 a kilogram. Splitting a requirement into smaller packs can quietly cost you the difference.
The real cost of extra scents is not on the invoice. Each additional scent is its own wick test, because throw and burn behaviour differ between oils in the same wax. Each is its own melt, its own pour session, its own labelled shelf during cure and its own line in the packing count. Each multiplies the chance of a mis-packed carton. For a corporate gift where every recipient gets the same box, one scent is usually the right answer and the argument for more is a marketing one, not a costing one. Where the buyer wants a choice, three is the number that stays manageable: enough to feel considered, few enough to pour, cure, sort and count without errors.
Spares, wastage and the reserve you keep after dispatch
Three different allowances get confused with each other, and they do different jobs. Wastage is wax and oil that never becomes a candle. Spares are extra finished candles poured with the run. A reserve is raw material kept back after dispatch so that a replacement can be made without starting a new purchase. A thousand-piece corporate order needs all three, and the quantities should be decided before the first melt.
| Allowance | Applies to | Used here | What it covers | Cost in this run |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wastage | Melted wax and oil | 5% | Wax left in the melter, pitcher and tools; reworked tops | ₹6,524.22 |
| Spares | Counted items and finished candles | 4% | Breakage on arrival, drowned wicks, failed tops, the buyer's extras | ₹9,500.94 |
| Reserve | Raw material held after dispatch | Your call | Replacements requested after delivery, without a fresh order | ₹9,994.60 |
The reserve is the one most makers skip and most regret. A corporate delivery of 1,000 pieces will produce a handful of complaints — a chipped rim noticed a week later, three boxes damaged in internal distribution, a recipient who says the wick will not light. Each is a small problem that becomes a large one if answering it means ordering 1 kg of wax, waiting for it, pouring one candle and curing it for a fortnight. Holding ₹9,994.60 of material — enough for about fifty replacements — turns a two-week apology into a three-day one, and the material does not spoil: the CSI 464 page states a shelf life of 60 months in cool, dry storage away from sunlight and moisture.
Pour the spares inside the normal batches, not as a final extra melt. A rushed batch poured at the end of a run, in a different room temperature and a different mood, is exactly the batch most likely to look different from the rest — which defeats the purpose of having a spare. Forty spares poured across the run cost ₹9,500.94 in materials and nothing extra in time, because they ride in melts you were doing anyway.
The lines CSI cannot price for you
A thousand corporate gifts are not a thousand candles. They are a thousand printed labels, a thousand boxes, some number of cartons, a freight movement to one or several addresses, and a great many hours. CSI sells none of those and publishes no rate for any of them, so none of them carries a number here. They are the second half of your material plan and they are often larger than the first.
| Line | Ask whom | Counted per | For 1,000 pieces | Your figure |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Printed label with the company's branding | Your printer | piece | 1,040 with spares | ________ |
| Artwork, proofing and print setup | Your printer | one-off per design | 1 design | ________ |
| Individual gift box or sleeve | Your packaging supplier | piece | 1,040 with spares | ________ |
| Insert card or greeting from the company | Your printer | piece | 1,000 | ________ |
| Outer cartons, void fill, tape, strapping | Your packaging supplier | carton | as packed | ________ |
| Freight in on 158 kg of wax and 104 jar packs | Your supplier at checkout | consignment | 1 consignment | ________ |
| Freight out to the buyer's address or addresses | Your courier or transporter | consignment | 1 or more | ________ |
| Storage space for the materials and the cured stock | Your own cost | month | 6–8 weeks | ________ |
| Your labour and electricity | Your own record | hour | pour, cure, inspect, assemble, pack | ________ |
| Your own cost per piece | — | — | — | ________ |
Then the plan is honest: CSI materials ₹251.07 a piece, plus your own cost per piece, is what the order costs you. What the order is worth is a separate question and a separate page. The only wrong move is to treat the CSI figure as the whole cost, which is the mistake that turns a large order into an expensive lesson.
The order plan: what to buy, in what order, and when
One thing not to do: do not plan the purchase around a discount you have not been given. Bulk pricing exists and is quoted on WhatsApp, but it is not published, so every figure on this page is the listed price anybody pays. Build the quotation on ₹251.07 a piece, ask about the quantity separately, and treat anything better as an improvement to your margin rather than an assumption inside your price. A quotation built on a discount you have not confirmed is a quotation you will have to withdraw.
Six ways a thousand-piece material plan goes wrong
1. Costing the candle, not the run
The theoretical build is ₹237.52; the run divided by 1,000 is ₹251.07. Quoting the first number across a thousand pieces gives away ₹13,543.00 before the first label is printed. Always divide the real purchase by the saleable count.
2. Assuming the largest pack is always the best rate
On this catalogue it usually is, but not always, and the exceptions are where 1,000-piece runs leak money. Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 is ₹507.40 a kilogram at 1 kg, 5 kg and 10 kg alike, so buying the odd kilogram to top up a requirement costs nothing extra. Eucalyptus Spearmint is ₹3,068.00 for a kilogram but its 500 g pack works out at ₹3,304.00 a kilogram. Check the rate on the line you are actually splitting.
3. Treating 8% as a target rather than a ceiling check
Both stated limits apply and the lower governs — CSI 464 up to 10% of total wax weight, the Woody Oud page soy 6–10%. Pushing from 8% to 10% on this run adds ₹13,593.60 of oil across 1,000 candles and does not reliably add throw; wick choice and a full cure usually matter more. Test the change on a pilot batch before you commit a thousand candles to it.
4. Leaving the wick decision until the wax arrives
Wick sizes by jar diameter are not published on the product pages, so the right wick for your jar and your oil is a test-burn result, not a lookup. That test takes days of cure before it means anything. Do it while the quotation is still being discussed, and order the wick you have proved rather than the one you assume.
5. Forgetting that the fill weight is a promise
A 150 g fill on a printed label is a number the buyer can check. Pouring 155 g to be generous costs ₹2,537.00 in wax across a thousand candles; pouring 145 g to save money risks a label that overstates the contents. Weigh into a tared jar and hold the number you printed.
6. Buying against an unconfirmed quantity
A thousand-piece order is ₹2,51,066.40 of materials bought for one customer's specification. If the quantity is not confirmed in writing, the purchase is not a purchase, it is a bet. Get the count, the vessel, the scent and the date in writing first — that document is worth more than any discount you could negotiate on the materials.
CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA sells raw materials, so a page about a thousand-piece order has an obvious incentive to inflate every allowance. It does the opposite where it can: it says that the wax grade barely changes this run, that splitting across scents costs almost nothing at the oil line, that the small fittings deserve more attention than the wax, and that the vessel — the line a supplier makes least noise about — is the biggest number on the sheet. It also leaves printing, boxes, cartons, freight, storage and labour blank, because CSI neither sells nor publishes them and a made-up figure there would be worse than none.
Every price is from live CSI stock in September 2026 and the linked product pages are authoritative. Product-page figures are quoted as such: Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 gives 80–90°C as the working range for melting and pouring, a fragrance load of up to 10% of total wax weight and a shelf life of 60 months in cool, dry storage away from sunlight and moisture; the Woody Oud page gives soy 6–10% and does not publish a flash point or vanillin figure; the Eucalyptus Spearmint page gives soy up to 10%; the Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid page states a 150 g fill capacity, 8 cm height and hot-pour safe to 85°C; the Black Glass Jar with Black Lid page states a fill capacity of about 150 g. CSI does not publish wick sizes by jar diameter, and no delivery time, freight rate, minimum order or discount is stated because none is published. The 5% wastage, 4% spares and the suggested reserve are this page's assumptions, not measured data. Listed stock depth moves as orders are placed — confirm quantities before committing a date.
