Quick answers — read this first
How much wax do I need for 1,000 candles? Wax weight per candle × 1,000. At a 150 g wax weight that is 150 kg in the candles and 157.5 kg ordered on a 5% wastage assumption. At 100 g it is 100 kg and 105 kg; at 200 g, 200 kg and 210 kg.

What does that cost and how many packs is it? 15 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg + 2 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g of Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 — 19 packs, 157.5 kg, ₹79,921.80, or ₹79.92 of wax per candle. The same 157.5 kg is ₹62,874.00 in Eco Soy CSI 400 and ₹1,00,327.50 in Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468.

How many melts is a thousand candles? About 16 full loads of a melter with a 10 kg stated capacity, or 8 of a 20 kg one, because one 10 kg melt is roughly 63 candles at a 150 g wax weight. CSI does not publish melting or heat-up times, so build your pour calendar from your own equipment.

Does CSI list a pack bigger than 10 kg? For most soy grades the largest listed size is 10 kg. Natural Soy Pearl Wax lists a 50 kg size; availability on the largest sizes is limited, so check the product page. Beyond the listed packs, bulk pricing is not published on the store and is quoted on WhatsApp.
The short answer
The wax: 1,000 × 150 g = 150 kg in the jars; 157.5 kg ordered on a 5% wastage assumption.
The order: 15 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg + 2 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g of Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 — 157.5 kg, ₹79,921.80, ₹79.92 a candle.
The schedule: 16 melts of 10 kg at about 63 candles each — and the 14 to 21 day cure runs from the last pour, not the first.
Cumulative candles poured against melt cycles: sixteen 10 kg melts of soy wax deliver about one thousand 150 g candles A thousand candles is sixteen meltsCumulative candles poured, one 10 kg melt at a time, at a 150 gwax weight with a 5% wastage assumption. What it shows: cumulative candles poured against melt cycles for 1,000 candles at a 150 g wax weight — 16 melts of a 10 kg melter, about 63 candles each, with a 5% wastage assumption built in. Deliberately left out: melting and pour times, which CSI does not publish, and every non-wax material and non-CSI cost.
Straight answer
How much wax does a run of 1,000 candles need, and how long does it take to melt?
At a 150 g wax weight, 1,000 candles put 150 kg of soy into jars. Add this page’s 5% wastage assumption and you need 157.5 kg; round to CSI’s listed packs and you buy 157.5 kg — 15 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg + 2 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g of Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464, 19 packs, ₹79,921.80, ₹79.92 of wax per candle. Other sizes: 250 g needs 262.5 kg (₹1,33,198.80), 200 g 210 kg (₹1,06,554.00), 100 g 105 kg (₹53,277.00), 70 g 73.5 kg (₹37,300.20). The number that actually shapes the project is the melt count: one 10 kg melter load is about 63 candles, so the run is 16 melt cycles — 8 on a 20 kg melter — and CSI publishes no melting times, so build the calendar from your own equipment. For most CSI soy grades 10 kg is the largest listed pack; Natural Soy Pearl Wax lists 50 kg, and anything beyond the listed sizes is a bulk quote on WhatsApp rather than a published rate. Grade moves the total but not the plan: ₹62,874.00 in Eco Soy CSI 400, ₹79,915.50 in CSI 464, ₹94,342.50 in Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, ₹1,00,327.50 in Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468. Pilot one 10 kg pack before committing the rest, and start the 14 to 21 day cure clock from the last pour. Wax only — wicks, vessels, fragrance and every non-CSI cost are excluded.
One line: A thousand 150 g candles take 150 kg of wax, 157.5 kg with a 5% wastage assumption — 19 packs, ₹79,921.80, and 16 melts of a 10 kg melter.
A thousand candles at a 150 g wax weight need 150 kg of soy wax in the jars and 157.5 kg on the order at a 5% wastage assumption. In Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 that is 15 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg + 2 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g — 157.5 kg for ₹79,921.80, ₹79.92 of wax per candle, and 16 melts of a 10 kg melter to pour it.

Wax for 1,000 candles, fill size by fill size

At four figures the wax stops being a purchase and becomes a schedule.

One thousand candles at a 150 g wax weight is 150 kg of soy in the jars. Add this page’s 5% wastage assumption and the order is 157.5 kg; round up to the packs CSI lists and you buy 157.5 kg. That is 19 packs, ₹79,921.80 of wax, and — the number nobody plans for — 16 separate melts of a 10 kg melter before the last candle is poured. This page prices and plans the wax line only.

Precision in the per-candle figure matters more here than anywhere else in the series. A 5 g difference in wax weight per candle, well inside the range of two makers filling the same jar to slightly different levels, is 5 kg across a thousand candles — ₹2,537.00 of wax, and half a melt. Weigh three test candles, take the average, and use that number rather than the fill capacity printed on the vessel page.

Packs built largest first. Melt count assumes a melter of 10 kg stated capacity and rounds up. The 5% wastage figure is this page’s assumption; CSI publishes no wastage data. Wicks, vessels, fragrance, dye and finishing are not in these totals.
The CSI principle
At a thousand candles the constraint is the melter, not the wax.
157.5 kg arrives in 19 packs and one delivery. It leaves in 16 melts, spread over however many pour days your equipment allows — and the cure clock starts on the last one, not the first.

The 5% wastage assumption at four-figure volume

The percentage falls as the run grows. The kilos behind it do not.

This page assumes 5% wastage across a 1,000-candle run, stated plainly as an assumption and not as measured data. CSI publishes no wastage, yield or recovery figure for any wax, and nor does this page pretend to have one. Five per cent is lower than a first hundred-candle run would sensibly use, for the same reason a factory beats a kitchen: the losses that dominate small runs — the film inside the melter and pitcher, the test pours before a batch — are fixed costs in grams, and they divide by a thousand instead of by a hundred.

What does not shrink is the absolute quantity. Five per cent of 150 kg is 7.5 kg — ₹3,805.50 of wax, and about 50 candles’ worth. That is a genuine line in a production budget rather than a rounding allowance, and it is the reason a thousand-candle run deserves one measured wastage figure of its own rather than a number borrowed from a blog.

What the wastage assumption is worth across a thousand candles
Wastage assumed Wax needed Buffer in candles 10 kg melts Wax cost Reads as
0% 150 kg none 15 ₹76,110.00 Total recovery. Nobody runs a thousand candles at this figure.

10% 165 kg 100 candles 17 ₹83,721.00 A festive scramble with remakes, new vessels and long hot holds.
Priced above: Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 at the 500 g, 1 kg, 5 kg and 10 kg variants — ₹260.00, ₹507.40, ₹2,537.00 and ₹5,074.00. Base requirement 150 kg of wax in 1,000 candles at a 150 g wax weight; buffer expressed in candles at the same 150 g; melts at a 10 kg stated capacity, rounded up. Every percentage in the first column is an assumption for illustration and none is a CSI measurement.

The whole range is worth ₹7,611.00, and the gap between this page’s 5% and a pessimistic 10% is ₹3,799.20. Notice the fourth column: the melt count barely moves. Wastage changes what you spend; it does not change how long the pour takes. That asymmetry is why a thousand-candle plan should be built around melts and cure days first, with the wastage buffer added as insurance rather than agonised over.

MEASURE WASTAGE ON THE FIRST PACK

Do not wait until the run is over to find out your real figure. Weigh the first 10 kg pack in, pour it, count the sellable candles out, and multiply the shortfall by sixteen. If pack one yields 63 candles you are on plan; if it yields materially fewer, you have fifteen packs left in which to fix the cause — usually pour temperature, a cold vessel or a pitcher that is not being scraped back. One pack of diagnosis costs ₹5,074.00 and saves the run.

What CSI’s largest listed packs actually cover

This is the volume at which a supplier’s biggest pack stops being a convenience and starts being the plan.

For most of CSI’s soy range the largest listed size is 10 kg. One 10 kg pack is about 63 candles at a 150 g wax weight with 5% allowed, so 157.5 kg is fifteen full packs plus the smaller ones that finish the order. Natural Soy Pearl Wax is the one grade that lists a 50 kg size, which changes the shape of the order completely — three of those and a little more cover the same run — although availability on the largest sizes is limited, so check the product page before building a plan around it.

At the other end, Eco Soy CSI 400 lists 1 kg and 5 kg only. It has the lowest listed rate on this page, and it is a perfectly good container wax with a real customer following, but a thousand-candle run in it is 34 separate packs to receive, check, store and open against 19 in CSI 464. That is not a hidden cost CSI can put a number on — it is your time, and it is worth weighing before the rate difference persuades you.

Pack counts are built largest first from each grade’s listed sizes; cost uses the best listed rate so grades compare cleanly. Soy Pillar Wax is for pillars and moulds, not jars, and is shown for comparison only. Bulk rates beyond the listed packs are not published.

Where a bulk quote belongs. A thousand candles is past the point where the store’s pack list was designed to be the whole answer. CSI does not publish bulk rates, minimum order quantities, freight terms or discounts, and this page will not invent them. One of our own reviewers puts the request politely — “Hope to get some discount in future for bulk buys” — and the honest response is that the conversation happens on WhatsApp +91 7397976926, with GST invoicing and MSDS and IFRA documentation available on request. Ask before you cost the job, not after you quote it.

Pricing a thousand-candle job off a bulk rate nobody quoted. A brand wins a corporate order, assumes a volume discount on the wax, and quotes accordingly. The rate on the store is the rate: ₹507.40 per kilo for CSI 464 at 1 kg, 5 kg and 10 kg alike, and 157.5 kg comes to ₹79,921.80. If the quotation assumed less, the difference comes out of the margin on the whole order. Fix: get the quote in writing on WhatsApp before you submit yours, and cost the job at the listed rate if you have not.

Melter throughput: what 157.5 kg actually costs you in time

You can buy a hundred and sixty kilos in one afternoon. You cannot melt it in one.

Here is the part of a thousand-candle plan that most quantity guides skip. Wax is bought by weight and poured by melter-load, and the two numbers are not the same shape. At a 150 g wax weight with 5% allowed, one full 10 kg melter is about 63 candles, so 157.5 kg is 16 melt cycles. Each cycle is a heat-up, a hold, a dose of fragrance, a pour and a cool-down. Whatever those take in your studio, multiply by sixteen and you have your pour calendar.

Melts and candles per melter load
How a 10 kg melter load converts into candles at each fill size
Wax per candle Candles per 10 kg melt Wax for 1,000 candles Melts of 10 kg
70 g 136 73.5 kg 8
100 g 95 105 kg 11
150 g 63 157.5 kg 16
200 g 47 210 kg 21
250 g 38 262.5 kg 27
Used above: candles per melt = 10,000 g ÷ (wax per candle × 1.05), using this page’s 5% wastage assumption, rounded down. Melter capacities are as stated on the product pages: Electric Wax Melter (Imported) lists 10 kgs and 20 kgs capacity at ₹21,240.00 and ₹25,960.00; the Mini Electric Wax Melter at ₹2,360.00 states a 1 litre capacity — a volume, not a weight, and CSI does not publish a kilogram equivalent, so it is deliberately left out of this table. Melting and heat-up times are not published by CSI and are not estimated here.

What CSI does not publish, a customer does. A review of the imported melter reports that “10 kgs of wax melts in mere 20-30 minutes” — one maker’s own experience with their own supply, not a CSI specification and not a promise. Take it as an order of magnitude rather than a number to plan by: if sixteen melts each need somewhere around half an hour of melting before anything is poured, the melting alone is most of a working day, and it is a day that has to happen before the cure clock can even start.

The choice of melter is therefore a throughput decision, not a comfort one. A 20 kg stated capacity halves the cycle count from 16 to 8. The Electric Wax Melter (Imported) lists both sizes — ₹21,240.00 for the 10 kgs capacity and ₹25,960.00 for the 20 kgs, with the larger size in short supply, so check the page before planning on it. Set against the ₹79,921.80 of wax in a single thousand-candle run, a 10 kg melter is about ₹26.58% of one run’s wax spend and is used on every run after it. Double boiler versus electric melter makes the wider case.

Two practical notes that are not equipment purchases. First, a melter is only as useful as the pour that follows it: a Steel Pouring Pitcher 600 ML at ₹708.00, a Wax Pouring Funnel at ₹1,888.00 and a Pen Thermometer at ₹354.00 are what turn a full melter into filled jars without a table full of spillage — and spillage is exactly the wastage line this page has been budgeting. Second, wax held hot for hours while you work through a slow pour is wax treated differently from wax poured promptly; plan melts you can actually pour out, rather than filling the melter because it is there.

Buy the wax in packs, plan the run in melts, and start the cure clock from the last pour.

Turning 157.5 kg into a pour calendar

Sixteen melts, one cure window, and a festival date that does not negotiate.
1
Pilot one pack before you order the other fifteen. Buy a single 10 kg pack of Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 at ₹5,074.00, pour it into the actual vessel with the actual wick and the actual scent, and count what you get. Target is about 63 candles at a 150 g wax weight. This is the cheapest insurance in the whole run: it confirms your wax weight per candle, gives you a measured wastage figure instead of this page’s assumption, and lets you burn-test before 157.5 kg is committed.
2
Order the balance in one consignment, largest pack first. With the pilot signed off, the remaining requirement is the rest of the 157.5 kg — 15 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg + 2 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g in total for ₹79,921.80. Order it once. Two of CSI’s own reviews say delivery charges are high, and repeat consignments multiply a cost that is yours, not ours. If the run is larger than the listed packs comfortably cover, or if this is a monthly requirement rather than a one-off, ask for a bulk quote on WhatsApp before ordering.
3
Schedule the run in pack-sized melts with batch numbers. Sixteen melts, one pack per melt, one batch number per melt. Record which pack went into which batch and which candles came out of it. At a thousand units you will not remember, and if a burn test disagrees with itself in week three the batch number is the only way to find out which 63 candles are affected rather than recalling all thousand.
4
Back-plan the cure from the delivery date. Soy throw keeps developing for 14 to 21 days, and the Luxury Soy Wax Chunks page asks for a minimum 48 hours and ideally one to two weeks of cure. The clock runs from the last pour, not the first. For Diwali on 8 November 2026 that means the final melt wants to be done by about the middle of October, the pours spread across the first half of the month, the wax in the studio by late September, and the pilot pack run this month. A thousand-candle run started in late October is a run that ships uncured.

One more scheduling reality that the kilogram figure hides: 157.5 kg of wax has to live somewhere between arrival and the last melt, and a thousand cured candles have to live somewhere between the last pour and dispatch. The second is usually the harder problem, because cured candles take far more shelf space than the wax they came from. Neither storage nor dispatch is a CSI cost, and neither is estimated on this page — but both belong in the plan before the wax is ordered.

What the grade choice costs across a thousand candles

The first volume at which the wax grade is a visible line in the profit and loss.

Across 157.5 kg the grade spread finally becomes a business number. ₹17,041.50 separates Eco Soy CSI 400 from Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464; ₹14,427.00 separates CSI 464 from Luxury Soy Wax Chunks; ₹20,412.00 separates it from Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468. Per candle those are small sums, but on a run this size they are the kind of figure a buyer notices when they compare two quotations.

The honest counterweight, from the supplier selling all of them: a grade change is a reformulation, not a substitution. The stated fragrance ceilings differ — CSI 464 publishes up to 10% of wax weight, Luxury Soy Wax Chunks and CSI 468 up to 13%, and Eco Soy CSI 400 does not publish one, so ask on WhatsApp before planning a load on it. The working temperatures differ. The finish and the glass adhesion differ. Change the grade and you change the wick test, the scent load and the cure behaviour with it, on a thousand candles you have already sold.

Switching wax grade to protect a quotation. The order is won at a tight price, and someone proposes a cheaper grade to recover margin. The most that can be recovered across 157.5 kg is ₹17,041.50 — and it is recovered by changing the one material that touches every other decision in the candle. Fix: if a grade is genuinely better value for your product, prove it on a pilot pack between runs, not inside a live order. If the quotation is tight, the answer is the price, the vessel or the fill weight, not the wax.
Committing 157.5 kg before the wick and vessel are settled. Wax, wick and vessel are one system, and the wax is the least reversible part of it once sixteen packs are in the store room. A thousand candles poured on an untested combination is a thousand candles to remake, at ₹79,921.80 of wax alone. Fix: the pilot pack comes first and the burn test comes before the bulk order, every time. Pouring temperature and the burn test are where a thousand-candle run is actually won.

Where the grade choice genuinely pays at this volume is the shape of the pack list rather than the rate. A grade with a 10 kg pack turns 157.5 kg into 19 items to receive and open; a grade capped at 5 kg turns it into 34; and Natural Soy Pearl Wax, with a 50 kg size listed, turns it into 7. If you are running a thousand candles a quarter rather than once, that difference repeats — and it is worth more than the per-kilo gap between two grades that both do the job.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA sells every wax and every melter on this page, and the page still refuses to guess what a reader most wants guessed. CSI publishes no melting time, so the only melt-rate figure quoted here is a customer’s own review, labelled as such. CSI publishes no bulk rate, so a thousand-candle job is costed at the listed ₹507.40 per kilo and readers are told to get a quote in writing before they quote their own. The page also says that the cheapest grade is 34 packs to open against 19, which is a cost we cannot put a rupee figure on and you can.

Every price is live CSI stock in September 2026, taxes included, and the linked product pages are authoritative if anything changes. The 5% wastage figure is an assumption stated by this page, not measured data, with 0%, 3%, 8% and 10% shown alongside it. Melter capacities are quoted exactly as the product pages state them — 10 kgs and 20 kgs for the imported melter, 1 litre for the mini melter, whose kilogram equivalent is not published and is therefore left out of the throughput table. Melting times, heat-up times, pour rates, pack dimensions, freight terms, minimum orders and bulk rates are not published and are not estimated. Fragrance ceilings are the manufacturer’s stated formulation maximums printed on each page. Outer cartons, mailers, labels, courier, electricity, labour and storage are not CSI costs and are never estimated here.

Frequently asked questions

How many kg of wax is needed for 1,000 candles?
At a 150 g wax weight, 150 kg goes into the candles and 157.5 kg should be ordered on a 5% wastage assumption. Scale to your own fill: 1,000 candles at 85 g need 89.25 kg, at 135 g 141.75 kg, at 250 g 262.5 kg.
How many 10 kg packs of soy wax is 1,000 candles?
Fifteen full 10 kg packs plus a 5 kg, two 1 kg and a 500 g to finish — 19 packs and 157.5 kg of Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 for ₹79,921.80. In a grade capped at 5 kg the same run is 34 packs.
How long does it take to melt 157.5 kg of soy wax?
CSI does not publish melting or heat-up times for any melter, so no figure here would be honest. What the arithmetic gives you is the cycle count: 16 melts of a 10 kg capacity or 8 of a 20 kg one. One customer review of the imported melter reports 10 kg melting in 20-30 minutes — one maker’s experience, not a specification.
Do I get a discount for buying 1,000 candles’ worth of wax?
Bulk rates are not published on the store, so the answer is to ask rather than assume. On the listed packs, CSI 464 is ₹507.40 per kilo at 1 kg, 5 kg and 10 kg alike, while Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468 and Natural Soy Pearl Wax step down from 5 kg. Anything past that is quoted on WhatsApp.
Should I buy all the wax for 1,000 candles at once?
Buy one 10 kg pack first, pour it, count the candles and burn-test them — about 63 candles at a 150 g wax weight. Then order the rest in a single consignment. That sequence costs ₹5,074.00 to de-risk ₹79,921.80 of wax and gives you a measured wastage figure instead of an assumption.
Does a bigger run really waste less wax?
Proportionally, usually yes, because the losses that dominate — melter and pitcher film, test pours — are fixed in grams and divide across more candles. That is why this page assumes 5% where a hundred-candle run would assume more. In absolute terms it is still 7.5 kg, about 50 candles, so it belongs in the budget rather than in the rounding.

Figures verified September 2026 (CSI live pricing). Candles per melt and per pack are calculated at 150 g plus the same 5%, rounded down; melt counts assume a 10 kg stated capacity and round up.
