Procurement · Bulk wax decision
A bigger wax order saves money on every kilo and costs money for every month the kilos sit unused. The decision is a race between the discount and the holding cost, and your monthly sales decide who wins. This page runs that race with your supplier's two prices and shows what CSI's own listed packs do.
176
200 g candles a month before 100 kg of wax is used within three months · the money alone breaks even at about 56 · reader's quote ₹599.00 vs ₹560.00 a kilo, 2% a month holding (example)
Quick answers — read this first
How do I know if 100 kg of wax is worth buying? Compare the saving with the holding cost. A 6.5% lower rate saves ₹3,900.00 on 100 kg. Holding the extra stock costs about ₹20,512.50 × your monthly holding rate × the months it takes to use. At 2% a month, the deal breaks even at 10.52 kg of wax a month, about 56 candles.

Is breaking even enough? Not on its own. Wax also needs space and ties up cash that a slow month may need. Add a cover cap — we use three months as a working limit — and 100 kg only makes sense above 33.33 kg a month, about 176 candles of 200 g.

Does CSI give a lower price for 100 kg? No published one. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks are ₹599.00 a kilo in 5 kg bags and ₹599.90 in 10 kg, so 25 kg and 100 kg cost the same per kilo. Natural Soy Pearl goes to a 50 kg bag at ₹424.80 a kilo — the same rate as its 5 kg. Larger quantities are quoted on WhatsApp.

What discount would make 100 kg worth it at my sales? At 100 candles a month you would need about 3.8% off to break even at 2% a month; at 300 candles, about 1.3%. See the discount you need.
The short answer
Saving: (₹599.00 − ₹560.00) × 100 kg = ₹3,900.00 over the time it takes to use 100 kg (reader's example prices).
Holding cost: Extra average stock ₹28,000.00 − ₹7,487.50 = ₹20,512.50; × 2% a month (example) × 100 ÷ monthly kg. Break-even 10.52 kg a month.
Decision: Buy 100 kg only if it saves money and is used within your cover cap: above about 176 candles (200 g, 8%) a month with a three-month cap.
Net saving of the 100 kg deal against monthly sales (reader's ₹599.00 vs ₹560.00 quote, 2% a month holding) -₹8,000 -₹4,000 ₹0 ₹4,000 25 100 200 300 400 200 g candles sold a month (8% load, 3% loss) money break-even ≈ 56 candles 3-month cover cap ≈ 176 candles maximum saving ₹3,900.00
Net saving = ₹3,900.00 saving − holding cost of the extra stock. Below about 56 candles a month the 100 kg deal loses money; above it the saving grows towards ₹3,900.00. The second dashed line marks where 100 kg is used within three months. Prices are the reader's hypothetical quote; the 2% monthly holding rate and three-month cap are labelled examples.
Straight answer
I can get a better wax price if I buy 100 kg instead of 25 kg — how do I determine whether my current sales are high enough to justify the larger purchase?
Run two tests. The money test: the discount must beat the cost of holding the extra wax. Say your quote is ₹599.00 a kilo on 25 kg and ₹560.00 on 100 kg — a 6.5% cut worth ₹3,900.00 on 100 kg. Buying 100 kg at once means holding, on average, 50 kg (₹28,000.00) instead of 12.5 kg (₹7,487.50): ₹20,512.50 more stock, for as many months as 100 kg takes to use. At an example holding cost of 2% a month — your cost of money plus storage and risk — the saving and the holding cost match at 10.52 kg of wax a month, about 56 candles of 200 g at 8%. The cover test: even a profitable deal is a poor one if 100 kg sits for most of a year. With a three-month cap (a working limit), 100 kg needs 33.33 kg a month — about 176 candles. Buy the 100 kg only if you clear both. Check the discount is real, too: on CSI's listed prices Luxury Soy Wax Chunks cost the same per kilo at 25 kg and 100 kg, Natural Soy Pearl is ₹424.80 a kilo from 5 kg to 50 kg, and anything larger is a WhatsApp quote with no published discount.
One line: a lower price per kilo only pays if the kilos leave the shelf fast enough — convert the offer into candles a month before you say yes.
If you are comparing quotes, start from a listed benchmark. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks: ₹2,995.00 for 5 kg, ₹5,999.00 for 10 kg — ₹599.00 a kilo either way, rated up to 13% fragrance load. 25 kg from CSI is 5 × 5 kg for ₹14,975.00; 100 kg is 20 × 5 kg for ₹59,900.00.
Buy Luxury Soy Wax Chunks

The discount against the holding cost

A discount is paid to you once. Holding cost is charged to you every month the wax waits.

Use the prices you have actually been quoted. For this page, take a quote of ₹599.00 a kilo for 25 kg and ₹560.00 a kilo for 100 kg. The first matches CSI's listed Luxury Soy Wax Chunks rate so the arithmetic has a real anchor; the second is the reader's hypothetical better price, 6.5% lower. Replace both with your own quote — the method does not change.

Over the time it takes to use 100 kg, the 100 kg deal saves ₹39.00 a kilo, ₹3,900.00 in total. That is the whole of the upside. The downside is stock. Buying 25 kg at a time, your wax shelf swings from 25 kg down to nothing, averaging 12.5 kg — ₹7,487.50 of stock. Buying 100 kg, it swings from 100 kg to nothing, averaging 50 kg — ₹28,000.00. Safety stock sits on top of both and cancels out. So the 100 kg deal holds ₹20,512.50 more stock on average, for as long as it takes to use 100 kg.

Holding stock costs money even if no one sends a bill. The cash could have paid down a loan, bought fragrance for a festive launch, or sat in the bank. Wax takes space you may be paying for, and a large stock risks damage, contamination or simply a change of wax before it is used. Put a monthly percentage on all of that. We use 2% a month as an example; a business borrowing expensive money should use more, one with idle cash less. It is your number, not a market fact.

Reader's hypothetical quote · average stock without safety stock (it cancels out)
What the 100 kg deal gains and what it holds
25 kg at a time 100 kg at once Difference
Price per kilo ₹599.00 ₹560.00 ₹39.00
Cost of 100 kg of wax used ₹59,900.00 ₹56,000.00 ₹3,900.00 saved
Orders to use 100 kg 4 1 3 fewer orders
Average wax on the shelf 12.5 kg 50 kg 37.5 kg more
Average stock value ₹7,487.50 ₹28,000.00 ₹20,512.50 more
Holding cost a month at 2% (example) ₹149.75 ₹560.00 ₹410.25 more
The mistake: comparing the saving with nothing. "₹3,900.00 off is ₹3,900.00 off" is true only if the extra 75 kg costs nothing to hold. At 2% a month, the extra stock costs ₹410.25 a month; if 100 kg takes a year to use, that is ₹4,923.00 — more than the discount. The saving is real; so is the cost. Only your sales rate decides which is bigger.

The break-even in candles a month

The holding cost of the deal is ₹20,512.50 × 2% × (100 ÷ monthly kg). Set it equal to the ₹3,900.00 saving and solve: 10.52 kg of wax a month. Below that, the 100 kg deal costs more than it saves; above it, it saves more. Each 200 g candle at 8% takes 184 g of wax, 189.52 g with a 3% loss allowance, so the break-even is about 56 candles a month.

Reader's quote · 2% a month holding (example) · 200 g candles at 8% with 3% loss
The 100 kg deal at different sales rates
Candles a month Wax a month 100 kg lasts Holding cost of extra stock Net saving Better buy
50 9.48 kg 10.6 months ₹4,329.36 -₹429.36 25 kg
100 18.95 kg 5.3 months ₹2,164.68 ₹1,735.32 100 kg — but over the cover cap
150 28.43 kg 3.5 months ₹1,443.12 ₹2,456.88 100 kg — but over the cover cap
200 37.90 kg 2.6 months ₹1,082.34 ₹2,817.66 100 kg
300 56.86 kg 1.8 months ₹721.56 ₹3,178.44 100 kg
500 94.76 kg 1.1 months ₹432.94 ₹3,467.06 100 kg

The money test is easy to pass. By 100 candles a month the deal is comfortably ahead, and by 300 the net saving is close to the full ₹3,900.00. But look at the third column. At 100 candles a month, 100 kg lasts 5.3 months. That is where the second test comes in.

Break-even sensitivity to the holding rate · reader's quote
How the break-even moves with your cost of holding
Holding rate (your figure) Break-even wax a month Break-even candles a month 100 kg lasts at break-even
1.0% a month 5.26 kg 28 19.0 months
1.5% a month 7.89 kg 42 12.7 months
2.0% a month 10.52 kg 56 9.5 months
3.0% a month 15.78 kg 83 6.3 months

Double the holding rate and the break-even doubles. That is why the rate deserves a moment's honest thought. If buying 100 kg means putting it on a credit card or delaying a supplier payment, your real rate is high. If the cash would otherwise sit idle, it is low — but idle cash is rare in a growing candle business.

The second test: months of cover

A deal can be profitable on paper and still be the wrong buy.

Months of cover = 100 ÷ monthly kg. Set a ceiling on how many months of wax you are willing to hold, whatever the discount. We use three months as a working cap: long enough to capture most of a volume price, short enough that one slow month or a change of wax does not leave you stuck with a mountain of bags. CSI does not publish a shelf life for its waxes — check the product page, store wax cool, dry and sealed, and use older stock first.

With a three-month cap, 100 kg must be used at 33.33 kg a month or more — about 176 candles of 200 g at 8%. That is the number that usually decides the question, because it sits well above the money break-even. Between about 56 and 176 candles a month the deal saves money but over-stocks you; buy 50 kg if your supplier will price it in between, or stay at 25 kg.

1
Get both prices in writingThe per-kilo rate at your normal quantity and at the larger one, with delivery and GST treatment stated the same way. A discount that disappears into freight is not a discount.
2
Convert your sales into kilos a monthCandles × fill × (1 − load) × (1 + loss). For 200 g at 8% with 3% loss: 189.52 g a candle. Use the last three months' average, not the best month.
3
Work the money testSaving = price difference × large quantity. Holding cost = (average stock value, large − small) × monthly rate × months to use the large quantity. Positive difference: the money test is passed.
4
Work the cover testMonths to use = large quantity ÷ monthly kilos. Compare with your cap. Over the cap: do not buy, or ask for a split delivery.
5
Ask for a split deliveryMany suppliers will hold a larger-quantity price across scheduled deliveries. That gives you the rate without the stock. Ask — CSI quotes quantities beyond the listed bags on WhatsApp.
Count ordering costs if they are real
Four 25 kg orders mean four deliveries and four rounds of paperwork; one 100 kg order means one. If each order costs you, say, ₹500.00 in courier and time (an example — use your own figure), the 100 kg deal gains another ₹1,500.00 and the money break-even falls to about 40 candles a month. It does not move the cover cap, which is about stock, not cost.
The CSI principle
Buy the price, not the pile.
If a supplier will give you the 100 kg rate for four 25 kg deliveries, take that over 100 kg on the floor every time. The discount was the point; the stock was only the condition.

The discount you need

Turn the question around: at your sales, how big must the discount be for 100 kg to break even? The table below solves that at the 2% example holding rate, starting from ₹599.00 a kilo for 25 kg.

Minimum 100 kg price to break even · 25 kg at ₹599.00 / kg · 2% a month holding (example)
The smallest discount worth accepting, by sales
Candles a month 100 kg lasts Break-even 100 kg price Minimum discount
60 8.8 months ₹562.69 / kg 6.1%
100 5.3 months ₹576.48 / kg 3.8%
176 3.0 months ₹585.92 / kg 2.2%
300 1.8 months ₹591.24 / kg 1.3%

At 60 candles a month, anything under about 6.1% off loses money once holding is counted. At 300 candles a month even 1.3% pays. If a quote offers less than the figure for your row, the smaller order is cheaper in real terms, whatever the headline price says.

Every discount has a speed limit. Below it, the wax costs more to keep than it saved to buy.

What CSI's listed packs actually do

The quote above is hypothetical. Here is what CSI's own listed wax prices do at 25 kg and 100 kg, pulled on 24 September 2026. The container waxes are sold in bags up to 10 kg; Natural Soy Pearl Wax goes to a 50 kg bag. Anything beyond is quoted on WhatsApp, and no volume discount figure is published.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. We would sell 100 kg happily. But on our listed prices, 100 kg of any of these waxes costs exactly the same per kilo as 25 kg. Buying 100 kg from our listings gets you no discount at all — only stock and a holding cost. A worked case to finish. A maker selling 120 candles a month uses 22.74 kg of wax. On the reader's quote, 100 kg would last 4.4 months, cost ₹1,803.90 to hold and save ₹2,096.10 net. Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. A wax supplier writing about bulk buying has an obvious interest in bigger orders. This page shows that on our own listed prices 100 kg is no cheaper per kilo than 25 kg, and gives you the tests to judge anyone's bulk offer — ours included.

Wax prices are CSI live pricing, pulled on 24 September 2026: Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 and Natural Soy Pearl Wax at every listed size. Break-even sales, months of cover, holding costs and required discounts are plain arithmetic, shown so you can check them.

The ₹560.00 100 kg price is the reader's hypothetical quote; the 2% monthly holding rate and the three-month cover cap are labelled examples you should replace with your own. CSI publishes no volume discount and no wax shelf life in this data. For a quote on quantities beyond the listed bags, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Frequently asked questions

Is it worth buying wax in bulk for candle making?
Only if the lower price beats the cost of holding the extra stock and you use it within a sensible time. Convert the offer into a break-even sales rate: saving ÷ (extra average stock value × monthly holding rate) gives the months you can afford to hold it.
How much wax does a candle business use per month?
Candles × fill × (1 − load), plus loss. A 200 g candle at 8% uses 184 g of wax (189.52 g with 3% loss), so 100 candles a month use about 18.95 kg and 500 candles about 94.76 kg.
Does CSI sell soy wax in 25 kg or 100 kg bags?
Not as single bags. Container waxes are listed up to 10 kg and Natural Soy Pearl Wax up to 50 kg. Larger quantities are quoted on WhatsApp; no volume discount figure is published.
Is 10 kg soy wax cheaper than 5 kg?
Not at CSI's listed prices. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks are ₹2,995.00 for 5 kg and ₹5,999.00 for 10 kg, so two 5 kg bags are ₹9.00 cheaper. CSI 464 is ₹507.40 a kilo at both sizes, and Natural Soy Pearl ₹424.80 a kilo from 5 kg to 50 kg.
How many months of wax stock should I keep?
Enough to cover your reorder cycle plus a safety floor, and not so much that it sits for most of a year. We use three months as a working cap for bulk buys. See two weeks of safety stock for the floor.
What holding cost should I use for inventory?
Your own: what the cash would otherwise earn or save (a loan rate, for example) plus storage and the risk of damage or change. This page uses 2% a month as an example only. Doubling the rate doubles the sales you need to justify a bulk buy.
Test the deal, then buy
