₹1 Lakh · ₹25,000 Kept Back
Treat the lakh as two budgets. ₹75,000 of CSI raw materials makes 288 candles in six scents with its own small reserve; your ₹25,000 covers packaging up to ₹90.58 per saleable candle before the boxes run out first.
₹90.58
packaging per saleable candle your ₹25,000 can fund across the 276 candles the ₹75,000 makes · CSI live pricing, October 2026
Quick answers — read this first
How should the ₹75,000 be split? Tools ₹1,239.00, testing ₹450.40, wax ₹28,080.00, jars with caps ₹8,850.00, oils ₹20,932.46, wicks ₹2,393.00, reserve ₹13,055.14.

How many candles? 288 in six scents — 276 to sell after 12 test candles.

Is ₹25,000 enough for packaging? If your packaging costs under ₹90.58 per candle, yes, with a cushion. Above that, packaging runs out before candles.

Does the ₹25,000 go to CSI? No. It is your non-CSI budget. Packaging figures here are examples you replace with your own quotes.
The short answer
Answer: Allocate the ₹75,000 as a full raw-material basket with its own reserve: 288 candles for ₹61,944.86, ₹13,055.14 kept. Keep the ₹25,000 separate for packaging and surprises.
Check: ₹25,000 ÷ 276 saleable candles = ₹90.58 per candle. Example packaging at ₹58.00 leaves ₹8,992.00 for the unexpected.
Saving: The Salsa jar comes with its cap — at an example ₹15.00 a lid, ₹4,140.00 your packaging budget does not need.
₹1 lakh = ₹25,000 kept by you + ₹75,000 of raw materials Six scents · 160 g (illustrative) in 200 ml Salsa jars with caps · CSI 468 · packaging figures are examples you replace Yours: packaging + unexpected ₹25,000.00 CSI raw materials ₹61,944.86 Reserve ₹13,055.14 Does your ₹25,000 cover packaging for the 276 saleable candles the ₹75,000 makes? ₹0 ₹30 ₹60 ₹90 ₹120 ₹150 ₹25,000 covers it packaging binds before materials ₹90.58 per candle = break-even ▲ example ₹58.00 Packaging per saleable candle (box, labels, fill, carton share) — your quotes, not CSI prices Below ₹90.58 a candle, part of your ₹25,000 is a genuine cushion for the unexpected. Above it, you will run out of boxes before candles.
Top: the lakh as two budgets — your ₹25,000 (dashed, not CSI) and the ₹75,000 of raw materials with its own reserve. Bottom: the packaging break-even. At ₹90.58 per saleable candle your ₹25,000 exactly covers packaging for the 276 candles; the example build-up of ₹58.00 leaves a cushion. Replace the example with your quotes.
Straight answer
I have ₹1 lakh but want to preserve ₹25,000 for packaging and unexpected expenses — how should I allocate the remaining ₹75,000 to candle raw materials?
Treat it as two budgets: keep your ₹25,000 entirely separate, and allocate the ₹75,000 as a complete raw-material basket with its own small reserve. On ₹75,000 that is tools and a three-wick test, 4 × 10 kg + 4 × 1 kg of CSI 468, 300 Salsa 200 ml jars with caps, six oils at 48 candles each, and production wicks and stickers — 288 candles (276 to sell) for ₹61,944.86, with ₹13,055.14 kept for testing and reorders. Then check your ₹25,000 against that count: it covers packaging up to ₹90.58 per saleable candle. With an example build-up of ₹58.00 (box, labels, fill, carton share — your quotes, not ours) it leaves ₹8,992.00 for the unexpected, and the jar's included cap means no lid line at all.
One line: two budgets, two reserves — and packaging checked like any other component.
The ₹75,000 left after your ₹25,000 reserve buys 288 finished candles in six scents — 276 to sell — for ₹61,944.86 at CSI, with ₹13,055.14 held as a testing and reorder reserve inside the ₹75,000. The jar is the 200 ml Salsa Glass Jar, sold with its golden lug cap at ₹29.50 a jar in packs of 50 or 100 — one packaging line you no longer need to fund from your ₹25,000.

Two budgets, not one

Your ₹25,000 is yours. Nothing on this page spends it — but it does check whether it is the right size.

Keeping a quarter of the lakh back for packaging and surprises is a sound instinct: boxes, labels, courier cartons and the odd broken batch are real costs, and none of them are things CSI sells or can price for you. So treat the money as two separate budgets. The ₹25,000 is your non-CSI budget; every figure for it on this page is a labelled example you replace with your own quotes. The ₹75,000 is the raw-material budget, allocated below to the rupee with real CSI packs — and it carries its own small reserve for testing and reorders, because the ₹25,000 is already spoken for.

The CSI principle
Two budgets, two reserves: yours for what CSI does not sell, and a small one inside the raw-material money for testing and reorders.
Mixing them is how a packaging bill quietly eats the reorder money, or a failed batch eats the box budget.

Is ₹25,000 the right size? Check it against the candle count

Packaging is a component too. If it runs out first, it is the scarcest line in your launch.

The ₹75,000 makes 276 saleable candles. Spread across them, your ₹25,000 is ₹90.58 per candle. Whether that is generous or tight depends entirely on your packaging, which CSI does not sell and cannot price. Here is an example build-up — every figure is an example to replace with your own quotes:

EXAMPLE packaging per saleable candle · not CSI prices · replace every figure with your supplier's quote

₹60.00 416 +140 Cushion left for the unexpected
₹90.00 277 +1 Cushion left for the unexpected
₹120.00 208 -68 Packaging runs out first

The break-even is ₹90.58 per candle. Below it, part of your ₹25,000 is a real cushion for unexpected costs — with the example figures, ₹8,992.00. Above it, the boxes run out before the candles, and either the reserve inside the ₹75,000 or your sales cash has to make up the difference. If your packaging quote lands well below the line, you could move some of the ₹25,000 into materials: every ₹10,000 moved buys about 49 more candles at this page's average material cost of ₹200.54. If it lands above, keep the split and pour fewer candles of the slowest scent.

The forgotten lid. Many jar candles need a lid bought separately, and a launch budgeted without it finds the gap at packing time. The Salsa jar is sold with its golden lug cap, so the lid is already inside the CSI price — at an example ₹15.00 a lid, that is ₹4,140.00 your ₹25,000 does not have to find for 276 candles. Fix: if you choose a jar without a cap, such as the White Matte jar, add a lid line to your own budget before you decide the split.

The raw-material BOM and candle count

CSI does not publish the Salsa jar's fill weight; 200 ml is brim volume. With a labelled 0.86–0.90 g/ml approximation the brim would hold roughly 172–180 g, so this page uses an illustrative 160 g candle — weigh a test pour and replace it. CSI 468's page states up to 13% fragrance, a 50–53°C melting point and pour at 58–60°C, so a working 8% sits well inside it: 12.8 g of oil and 147.2 g of wax per candle. Stack: 12 test candles as whole candles; 3% pour loss on wax and oil; glass breakage from the spares pack rounding leaves; round to real packs.

The test before the production pour

1

2
Pour twelve test candlesEach scent on Eco Thin C1 and Eco Thick C2; bring in the Cotton Braided wick for any scent that behaves differently. 147.2 g of CSI 468 and 12.8 g of oil each, poured at the page's 58–60°C.
3
Cure to one checkpointA labelled checkpoint — for example 7 days — for all twelve.
4
Burn and record3–4 hour cycles with full cool-down (a commonly used working practice). Full-pool time, pool depth, flame height, soot, mushrooming, jar warmth.
5
Pack one test candlePut one finished test candle through your full packaging — box, label, fill, carton — and post it to yourself. It is the only way to check the packaging budget and the jar's survival together.
6
Buy the production wick, then pourThe winning wick's packs — Eco Thin C1 as budgeted (₹1,593.00); Thick C2 or Cotton Braided if they win, the difference from the reserve inside the ₹75,000.

CSI publishes no wick-per-diameter chart and no numeric flame or jar-temperature limits. A wick passes when it is no worse than a candle you trust on every safety line, within the jar supplier's guidance and the candle fire-safety standard you work to.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. If your packaging comes in under the break-even, it is tempting to spend the difference with us. Do not move it until the packed test candle has survived the post and the first sales are in: a quarter of the lakh in cash is the cheapest insurance a new candle business can buy, and the ₹13,055.14 reserve inside the ₹75,000 covers the materials side on its own.
Diwali falls on Sunday 8 November 2026. Gift packaging is usually the line that runs late before Diwali; order the raw materials now, pack a test candle this week, and you will know whether your ₹25,000 is the right size while there is still time to change it. Frequently asked questions

How much of a candle budget should go on packaging?
Size it from your per-candle packaging quote × the candles your materials make. Here, ₹25,000 covers up to ₹90.58 per candle for 276 candles.
What raw materials can I buy with ₹75,000?
In this plan: tools, a wick test, 4 × 10 kg + 4 × 1 kg of CSI 468, 300 Salsa jars with caps, six oils for 48 candles each, wicks and stickers — 288 candles.
Do Salsa jars come with lids?
Yes — CSI's 200 ml Salsa Glass Jar is sold with a 63 mm golden lug cap. The Yankee 130 ml jar comes with a clear cap. Most other jars need a separate lid.
Should I keep an emergency fund when starting a candle business?
Yes, separate from the raw-material reserve. This plan keeps your ₹25,000 apart and still holds ₹13,055.14 inside the ₹75,000 for testing and reorders.
How many candles will ₹75,000 make?
288 candles of 160 g (illustrative) in this plan, at an average material cost of ₹200.54 before labour, packaging, freight and GST.
Can I move packaging money into raw materials?
Only if your packaging quote is well under ₹90.58 a candle and a packed test candle has survived the post. Every ₹10,000 moved buys about 49 more candles.

About this guide: Written by the CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA team. Product recommendations reflect the CSI range. The two-budget method and the packaging break-even apply to any candle launch.

Customer reviews: The six reviews at the top of this page are genuine, published Judge.me reviews left by CSI customers on the product pages named on each card — Eco Candle Wicks, Premium Candle Wicking Needle and Bamboo Wick Holder. They are general product reviews, not assessments of the guidance set out here. Names, star ratings, dates and products are as recorded by Judge.me and wording is unedited. "Verified buyer" appears only on the three reviews Judge.me recorded as verified — Monika Deep, Subhankar Roy and Sneha Tamang; the reviews from Ashwini, LJ and Lalitha Jagan are published but not recorded as verified, and carry no badge.

Non-price figures and assumptions: CSI convention: fragrance load is a share of the finished candle (160 g at 8% = 12.8 g oil + 147.2 g wax). The Salsa jar's fill is not published; 160 g is illustrative. What CSI's product pages state (quoted, not CSI test results): Luxury Soy Wax Chunks — maximum fragrance load 13%; Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 — up to 10%, shelf life 60 months in cool, dry storage; Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 — up to 13%, melting point 50–53°C, pour 58–60°C, shelf life 60 months cool and dry; Natural Soy Pearl — no fragrance ceiling, temperatures or shelf life published. Packaging lines (box, labels, fill, carton share, lid) are EXAMPLES, not CSI prices; CSI publishes no prices for boxes, labels, lids (except jars sold with caps), courier or labour. 8% load, 3% pour loss and twelve test candles are labelled working assumptions. Best-selling positions are the collection's sort order, not sales data. Material costs exclude labour, packaging, freight and GST. Diwali 2026 falls on 8 November.
