I Have 10 Kg of Soy Wax and Use 10% Fragrance — How Many 200 g Finished Candles Can I Produce from the Wax?

The count at 10%

The question gives three numbers: 10 kg of wax, 10% fragrance, 200 g finished candles. The only one that needs converting is the candle. At 10%, 20 g of each candle is oil and 180 g is wax. Divide the wax you have by the wax per candle and round down.

Oil as a percentage of wax is the other trap. If your recipe says "add 10% oil to the wax", 180 g of wax gets 18 g of oil and the candle weighs 198 g at a true load of 9.09%, not 10%. To hit a true 10% on 180 g of wax, the oil is 180 × 0.10 ÷ 0.90 = 20 g. Is 10% allowed in your wax?

The title says "soy wax", and that matters here more than on most pages in this series, because 10% is at or near the top of what CSI's data allows. Only two waxes have a published fragrance ceiling, and both are the wax makers' stated formulation maximums, not legal limits and not recommendations.

At the ceiling there is no room for weighing error. A scale that reads 1 g high on a 20 g addition puts the candle at about 10.4%, over the stated maximum for CSI 464. Inside a 13% ceiling, the same error is harmless. That is one reason this page uses Chunks for the worked example. Whichever wax you have, the load should be the one your burn tests support, not the highest one allowed; and for any individual oil at 10%, ask CSI on WhatsApp for its IFRA certificate before you sell, because oil-level limits are not in this data.

What the load does to the count and the bill

From 8% to 10%, the bag makes one more candle (54 to 55), and the oil bill rises by 236 g, about ₹882.17 of Roasted Coffee. That extra candle is the most expensive one in the batch. Chunks wax costs ₹0.60 a gram and Roasted Coffee ₹3.74 at its 1 kg rate, so every gram of wax replaced by oil costs about ₹3.14 more. The load is a performance decision, and the count is a side effect; do not raise the load to stretch a bag. From 55 to what you can sell

The theoretical 55 assumes nothing is lost. In practice some wax stays in the jug and the melter, some pours are topped up, and a few candles are poured purely to test. The allowances below are working assumptions; replace them with your own.

Why 4% loss here when other pages use 3%? A 200 g candle poured from a small bag is often made in several small melts, and each melt leaves a heel in the jug. For a 10 kg run, 4% is a reasonable working assumption; for a large production run with one big melter it is often lower. If you have measured your loss, use that. What the bag needs to become candles

To pour 53 candles at 10% with 4% loss, you need 53 × 20 g × 1.04 = 1,102.4 g of oil, 53 wicks and 53 jars, plus small spares.

The oil order uses a 15 g bottle to top up: 1 kg plus 100 g leaves you 2.4 g short, and the 15 g (₹93.22) is cheaper than a second 100 g (₹390.00). Using only 100 g and larger bottles, the oil would be 1 × 1 kg + 2 × 100 g at ₹4,518.00. Raw materials per candle come to ₹262.98: 180 g of Chunks, 20 g of Roasted Coffee at the 1 kg rate, a Thick C2 wick and a White Matte jar, excluding labour, labels, lids, freight and GST. The wick is an assumption for pricing; CSI does not publish wick sizes per jar, and a 10% candle may need a different wick from an 8% one, so test it.
