I Have ₹75,000 for Candle Inventory — Should I Buy Larger Packs of My Core Materials or Keep Cash Available for Reordering Proven Sellers?
शेयर करना
Where do bigger packs pay? Where the per-unit price drops and you use the pack in time: CSI 468 up to 5 kg; 1 kg Honeydew Melon and 500 g Verbena for these proven sales.
Where do they not? White Matte jars, Eco wicks, CSI 468 beyond 5 kg, and flat-priced oils such as Juicy Orange and Wild Berries.
How much stays in reserve? ₹37,961.58 — enough for month two's reorder (about ₹33,256.30) with cash to spare.
The short answer: keep the cash, except where a bigger pack really is cheaper
The question assumes larger packs save meaningful money. Some do — but on CSI's catalogue the per-unit price is flat for most core materials: the White Matte jar is ₹70.80 in fives or tens, Eco Thin C1 is ₹5.90 a wick from 20 to 1,000, and CSI 468 is ₹637.00 a kilo at 5 kg and at 10 kg. So most of the money you would put into bigger packs buys nothing but stock you already had the option to buy next month. The cash, meanwhile, is the thing that lets you reorder whichever scent is selling fastest.
The table compares three ways to place a ₹75,000 order for a maker who already knows what sells — here, 120 candles a month in a 200 g jar (an illustrative fill), split 40/30/20/20/10 across five scents. Those monthly figures are the reader's example; replace them with your own sales.
| Plan | Months of stock | CSI spend | Cash kept | Bigger packs used | Real saving vs buying monthly |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| A · Two months now | 2 | ₹69,966.72 | ₹5,033.28 | 4 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg + 1 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g wax; 1 kg Verbena; bigger Honeydew mix | ₹1,464.82 (2.1%) |
| B · One month, to need | 1 | ₹36,096.78 | ₹38,903.22 | None beyond what one month needs | — (baseline) |
| C · One month, break-aware | 1 (2 for two oils) | ₹37,038.42 | ₹37,961.58 | 1 kg only where cheaper per gram and used within 2 months | Bigger bottles bought where they pay |
Where the two-month saving actually comes from
Plan A's ₹1,464.82 sounds like a price break. Mostly it is not. Break it down line by line — Plan A against Plan B bought twice — and most of it turns out to be rounding: one bigger order leaves fewer part-used bottles and bags than two smaller ones.
| Line | B × 2 | A | Difference | Why |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 | ₹30,030.00 | ₹29,640.00 | ₹390.00 | Month-one wax needs some 1 kg bags at ₹650.00/kg; two months fill 5 and 10 kg bags at ₹637.00/kg |
| White Matte jars | ₹17,700.00 | ₹17,346.00 | ₹354.00 | Flat per jar — no saving |
| Honeydew Melon | ₹4,913.52 | ₹4,914.70 | -₹1.18 | Rounding, not a price break |
| Verbena | ₹4,956.00 | ₹4,720.00 | ₹236.00 | Real break |
| Roasted Coconut | ₹3,342.00 | ₹3,310.00 | ₹32.00 | Rounding, not a price break |
| Juicy Orange | ₹4,998.00 | ₹5,003.00 | -₹5.00 | Rounding, not a price break |
| Wild Berries | ₹2,396.00 | ₹2,096.00 | ₹300.00 | Rounding, not a price break |
| Wicks + stickers | ₹2,334.00 | ₹2,175.00 | ₹159.00 | Flat per wick; pack rounding only |
| Total | ₹71,431.54 | ₹69,966.72 | ₹1,464.82 | 2.1% of the order |
Against that ₹1,464.82, Plan A ties up ₹33,869.94 for a month in stock that Plan B would have bought anyway, a month later, at almost the same price. If any of the five scents slows down in month two, that stock is still sitting there in month three. If any of them speeds up — or a sixth scent you tested starts selling — Plan B and Plan C have the cash to follow it; Plan A has ₹5,033.28.
The break-aware rule, oil by oil
Most CSI oils cost the same per gram at 100 g and 1 kg. A minority show a real step, and for a proven seller that step is worth taking — if you will use the bottle within a sensible horizon. This page uses two months (a labelled working horizon; set your own). The rule: take the bigger bottle when it is at least 5% cheaper per gram than 100 g and your proven sales use it within two months. Otherwise buy one month to need.
| Scent | Monthly sales | Monthly oil incl. loss | 100 g ₹/g | 500 g ₹/g | 1 kg ₹/g | Plan C buys | Months covered |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Honeydew Melon | 40 | 659.2 g | ₹4.35 | ₹3.40 | ₹3.40 | 1 × 1 kg | 1.52 |
| Verbena | 30 | 494.4 g | ₹5.90 | ₹4.96 | ₹4.72 | 1 × 500 g | 1.01 |
| Roasted Coconut | 20 | 329.6 g | ₹4.95 | not listed | ₹4.00 | 3 × 100 g + 2 × 15 g | 1.00 |
| Juicy Orange | 20 | 329.6 g | ₹7.49 | ₹7.50 | ₹7.50 | 3 × 100 g + 2 × 15 g | 1.00 |
| Wild Berries | 10 | 164.8 g | ₹5.99 | ₹6.00 | ₹6.00 | 2 × 100 g | 1.21 |
Honeydew Melon passes both tests: ₹4.35 a gram at 100 g against ₹3.40 at 1 kg, and at 40 candles a month the kilo is used in 1.52 months — so Plan C takes the kilo. Verbena's break is real too (₹5.90 at 100 g, ₹4.96 at 500 g, ₹4.72 at 1 kg), but its kilo would last 2.02 months, just outside the horizon; the 500 g bottle captures most of the break and is used in 1.01 months. Roasted Coconut has a real 1 kg break too (₹4.95 → ₹4.00, and no 500 g size), but at 20 candles a month a kilo would last 3.0 months — outside the horizon, so it waits. Juicy Orange and Wild Berries are flat from 100 g to 1 kg; bigger bottles would buy nothing.
The ₹75,000 allocation, Plan C
Every line is a listed, in-stock CSI pack; the lines close exactly on ₹75,000 with a labelled reserve. Tools are not in it — a maker with proven sellers already has them. The three 50 g candidates are the testing line: a 15 g bottle cannot scent a 200 g candle at 8% once pour loss is counted (it needs 16.48 g), so each candidate is bought at 50 g — enough for three test candles, of which this plan pours one each now.
| Group | CSI item | Buy | ₹ | Share |

| Reserve | Reorder & testing reserve (cash) | Month-two reorder of whatever sells; scale-up of a candidate | ₹37,961.58 | 50.6% |
| Total | CSI spend ₹37,038.42 + reserve ₹37,961.58 | ₹75,000.00 | 100.0% |
Month two, if sales hold, costs about ₹33,256.30: wax, jars, wicks and stickers for 120 candles net of what month one leaves over, plus oil for each scent net of what is still in its bottle — Honeydew's kilo still holds 20 candles' worth. That leaves roughly ₹4,705.28 of the reserve uncommitted even after a full reorder: room to scale a candidate, add a second jar size, or simply not spend it. The ₹10,000 → ₹1 lakh growth plan shows when that uncommitted cash should move into stock.
The month-one BOM and candle count
Per 200 g candle (illustrative fill — weigh a test pour) at 8%: 16 g of oil and 184 g of wax. CSI 468's page states up to 13% fragrance, a 50–53°C melting point and pour at 58–60°C. The stack: 3 test candles counted as whole candles; 3% pour loss on wax and oil; glass breakage from the spare jars pack rounding leaves (set your own rate if you break more); round up to real packs.
| Line | Bought | Candles |
|---|---|---|
| Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 | 2 × 10 kg + 3 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g | 123 |
| Honeydew Melon | 1 × 1 kg = 1,000 g | 60 (sells 40/month) |
| Verbena | 1 × 500 g = 500 g | 30 (sells 30/month) |
| Roasted Coconut | 3 × 100 g + 2 × 15 g = 330 g | 20 (sells 20/month) |
| Juicy Orange | 3 × 100 g + 2 × 15 g = 330 g | 20 (sells 20/month) |
| Wild Berries | 2 × 100 g = 200 g | 12 (sells 10/month) |
| Three 50 g candidates | 3 × 50 g | 9 (one each poured now) |
| White Matte jars | 125 | 125 |
| Wicks | 130 | 130 |
| Stickers | 160 | 160 |
| Finished candles this month | 123 — 120 to sell, 3 tests; jars and wax bind |
The jars and wax bind at 123, which is the month's plan. Honeydew holds more oil than one month needs — 60 candles' worth against sales of 40 — and that surplus is deliberate: it is the bigger bottle the rule chose because it is cheaper per gram and will be used next month. Material cost per candle under Plan C runs from ₹251.14 to ₹317.93, against ₹255.87 to ₹317.93 under Plan B — the difference is the oil break, nothing else.
| Scent | Plan B (to need) | Plan C (break-aware) | Saving per candle |
|---|---|---|---|
| Honeydew Melon | ₹255.87 | ₹251.14 | ₹4.74 |
| Verbena | ₹276.06 | ₹276.06 | ₹0.00 |
