I Have a Corporate Order for 500 × 150 g Candles in One Fragrance — How Do I Calculate the Exact Raw-Material Requirement Before Sending My Quotation?
शेयर करना
What does that cost at CSI? Cucumber Green Tea 6 × 1 kg + 2 × 100 g + 1 × 50 g (₹20,847.65), CSI 464 7 × 10 kg + 2 × 1 kg (₹36,532.80), 520 Salsa jars (₹15,552.40), 540 wicks (₹3,186.00): ₹76,118.85, or ₹152.24 per delivered candle.
Which cost figure goes into the quotation? The whole-pack figure divided by the candles you invoice: ₹152.24. The consumed-only figure (₹149.60) is lower but assumes you will use every leftover gram on another job. See the cost basis.
What else goes into the price? Everything CSI does not sell: labels, boxes, labour, courier, your overheads and GST. We show example figures you must replace, and how to turn a cost into a price at a target margin without confusing margin with markup.
The requirement, including samples
Start from the finished candle. At 150 g and 8%, oil = 150 × 0.08 = 12 g and wax = 150 × 0.92 = 138 g. Then list every candle you will pour. The 500 are obvious. Less obvious are the samples: a corporate buyer typically wants to see and smell the candle before approving, and sometimes a second one for a colleague. Your own tests come first, to fix the wick and confirm the scent. All of those are candles, and all of them use materials you must pay for whether or not the order is confirmed.
| Line | Candles | Fragrance | Wax | Jars | Wicks |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Quoted order | 500 | 6,000 g | 69,000 g | 500 | 500 |
| + 2 client samples | 502 | 6,024 g | 69,276 g | 502 | 502 |
| + 3 internal tests | 505 | 6,060 g | 69,690 g | 505 | 505 |
| + 3% pour loss (material) | 505 | 6,241.80 g | 71,780.70 g | 505 | 505 |
| + 2% jars, ~5% wicks | 505 | 6,241.80 g | 71,780.70 g | 516 | 531 |
The samples raise a fair question: should they be in the procurement figure at all, since you pour them before the order is confirmed? For the quotation, yes. Their cost is part of what winning this order costs you, and the price has to carry it. Whether you buy their materials separately in 15 g bottles or from the production stock is a timing question. A Client Wants 1,000 Candles but Expects 20 Samples Before Final Production — Should the Sample Raw Materials be Included in My Procurement Calculation? covers that decision for a 1,000-candle order with 20 samples.
150 g in a 200 ml jar
The 200 ml Salsa Glass Jar with 63 mm golden lug cap comes with its cap, which matters for corporate gifting. It is sold in 5s (₹200.60), 50s (₹1,475.00) and 100s (₹2,950.00), which is ₹29.50 a jar at 50 or 100 and ₹40.12 in fives. Its 200 ml is a brim volume. Solid soy wax is lighter than water; a working approximation of 0.86–0.90 g of wax per ml puts a brim fill at roughly 172–180 g. A 150 g candle therefore sits below the shoulder with headspace for the cap, which is what you want. But the approximation varies with the wax, the temperature and where you stop pouring, so weigh a test pour before you quote.
I Ordered 100 × 200 ml Candle Jars — How Do I Calculate How Much Wax They Actually Need When 200 ml Does Not Mean 200 g of Candle Wax? explains in full why 200 ml never means 200 g of wax, and I Have 500 × 300 ml Jars but Only Want to Fill Them to a Specific Line — How Do I Calculate Actual Wax Requirement Before Production? covers filling to a specific line in a larger jar.
Pricing the requirement in whole packs
You cannot buy 6,241.80 g of oil, only packs. The quotation should be built on what you actually pay, so round each line up to listed, in-stock packs.
| Material | Requirement | Packs | Bought | Cost | Per delivered candle |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cucumber Green Tea Fragrance Oil | 6,241.80 g | 6 × 1 kg + 2 × 100 g + 1 × 50 g | 6,250 g | ₹20,847.65 | ₹41.70 |
| Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 | 71,780.70 g | 7 × 10 kg + 2 × 1 kg | 72.00 kg | ₹36,532.80 | ₹73.07 |
| 200 ml Salsa Glass Jar + lug cap | 516 jars | 5 × 100-pack + 4 × 5-pack | 520 jars | ₹15,552.40 | ₹31.10 |
| Eco Candle Wicks Thin C1 | 531 wicks | 1 × 500-pack + 2 × 20-pack | 540 wicks | ₹3,186.00 | ₹6.37 |
| Total | ₹76,118.85 | ₹152.24 |
Two pack details are worth knowing. Cucumber Green Tea is ₹3.53 a gram at 100 g and ₹3.33 at 500 g and 1 kg, so the kilo bottles carry the order and the smaller sizes only top it up. CSI 464 is flat at ₹507.40 a kilo from 1 kg to 10 kg, so the bag mix makes no difference to the price per kilo; choose bags you can store and handle. The jars are cheapest in 100s; the four packs of five cover the last few jars at ₹40.12 each, which is cheaper than an extra 50-pack you would mostly not use.
| Pack | Price | Per gram | 150 g candles at 12 g |
|---|---|---|---|
| 15 g | ₹93.22 | ₹6.21 | 1.25 |
| 50 g | ₹176.41 | ₹3.53 | 4.17 |
| 100 g | ₹352.82 | ₹3.53 | 8.33 |
| 500 g | ₹1,663.80 | ₹3.33 | 41.67 |
| 1 kg | ₹3,327.60 | ₹3.33 | 83.33 |
| Pack | Price | Per jar | Jars for this order |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5 | ₹200.60 | ₹40.12 | — |
| 50 | ₹1,475.00 | ₹29.50 | — |
| 100 | ₹2,950.00 | ₹29.50 | 5 × 100-pack + 4 × 5-pack = 520 |
The cost basis for the quotation
| Figure | How it is worked | Per candle | When it is right |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bare recipe | 12 g oil + 138 g wax + 1 jar + 1 wick, no allowances | ₹145.35 | Never for a quotation; it ignores samples, tests and loss |
| Consumed, with allowances | Recipe × 1.03 loss, jars and wicks with spares, at unit prices | ₹149.60 | When every leftover gram will be used on another job |
| Whole packs ÷ candles invoiced | ₹76,118.85 ÷ 500 | ₹152.24 | The default for a one-off corporate order |
The difference between the first and last rows is ₹6.89 a candle, ₹3,442.65 across the order. That is the cost of samples, tests, pour loss, spares and rounding, and it is real money you will spend. A quotation built on the bare recipe gives it away. The middle figure is reasonable if Cucumber Green Tea and CSI 464 are regular stock for you and the leftovers will simply roll into the next job. For a one-off corporate scent, use the whole-pack figure.
What moves the quote
Two decisions change the material cost after you have calculated it: the wax, and the fragrance load. Both are worth settling before the quotation goes out.
| Wax | Stated fragrance ceiling | Bags | Wax cost | CSI materials per candle | Against CSI 464 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Natural Soy Pearl Wax | Not published | 1 × 50 kg + 2 × 10 kg + 2 × 1 kg | ₹30,636.00 | ₹140.44 | -₹11.79 |
| Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 | Up to 10% | 7 × 10 kg + 2 × 1 kg | ₹36,532.80 | ₹152.24 | ₹0.00 |
| Luxury Soy Wax Chunks | Up to 13% | 14 × 5 kg + 2 × 1 kg | ₹43,128.00 | ₹165.43 | ₹13.19 |
| Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 | Not published | 7 × 10 kg + 2 × 1 kg | ₹45,890.00 | ₹170.95 | ₹18.71 |
Natural Soy Pearl would lower the quote by ₹11.79 a candle, but it has no fragrance ceiling in our data, so test it at 8% before quoting on it. Chunks, rated up to 13%, and Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468 are dearer. For a corporate order at 8%, CSI 464 is the lower-cost of the two waxes with a stated ceiling. Whichever you choose, pour your samples in it.
| Load | Oil per candle | Oil needed | Cucumber Green Tea packs | Oil cost | CSI materials per candle |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 6% | 9 g | 4,681.35 g | 4 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g + 2 × 100 g | ₹15,679.84 | ₹143.44 |
| 8% | 12 g | 6,241.80 g | 6 × 1 kg + 2 × 100 g + 1 × 50 g | ₹20,847.65 | ₹152.24 |
| 10% | 15 g | 7,802.25 g | 7 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g + 3 × 100 g + 1 × 15 g | ₹26,108.68 | ₹161.25 |
Because Cucumber Green Tea is a low-priced oil, moving from 8% to 10% adds about ₹9.98 of oil per candle at the kilo rate. With a premium oil the same 3 g costs much more: at Dark Vanilla's ₹7.65 a gram it is ₹22.94 a candle. CSI 464 is rated up to 10% by the wax maker, which is a formulation maximum, not a target. We publish no throw data per oil, so settle the load with the samples, then fix it in the quotation.
From cost to quotation
CSI's materials are only part of the cost of a corporate candle. The rest comes from your own suppliers and your own time. The figures below are examples only, to show the structure; replace each with your printer's, box supplier's and courier's quotes and your own labour rate.
| Line | Per candle | Source |
|---|---|---|
| CSI materials (whole packs ÷ 500) | ₹152.24 | This page, CSI listed prices |
| Label | ₹8.00 | Example — replace with your own quote |
| Gift box | ₹35.00 | Example — replace with your own quote |
| Labour | ₹25.00 | Example — replace with your own quote |
| Courier share | ₹20.00 | Example — replace with your own quote |
| Cost basis | ₹240.24 | Before overheads, margin and GST |
To turn a cost into a price, decide on a gross margin and divide. At an example 50% gross margin (replace with your own target), price = ₹240.24 ÷ (1 − 0.50) = ₹480.48 before GST. That is a 50% gross margin on the selling price, and a 100% markup on cost. The two are often confused: a 50% markup on cost gives only a 33% gross margin. State which one you mean in your own records. We do not state GST rates here; add GST as your accountant advises.

The hub, 300 × 80 g wedding order, sets out the order of allowances.
CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. This page tells you that the costs we do not sell (labels, boxes, labour, courier) are larger than our materials on this order, and that quoting on our material cost alone will lose you money. That is the honest picture of a corporate quotation.
Oil and wax prices are CSI live pricing, pulled on 24 September 2026. Wick and jar prices are CSI listings verified on 10 September 2026 and re-checked in the 24–25 September pull. All CSI figures are arithmetic on listed prices, shown to two decimals. Label, box, labour and courier figures are examples only, not CSI prices or market rates.
The 150 g fill in the Salsa jar, the 0.86–0.90 g per ml approximation, two client samples, three tests, 3% pour loss, 2% jar breakage, 5% extra wicks and the 50% example margin are working assumptions. We state no GST rate. For a GST quote on your materials, stock confirmation, MSDS or IFRA documentation, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.
