Production calculator · Unscented decorative mould candles
With no fragrance oil, a 120 g decorative candle is 120 g of wax. That makes 1,000 × 120 g the one multiplication in candle-making that is not wrong. It is only incomplete, because failed releases, test pours, trimmings and the jug all take wax the customer never receives.
1,32,317.92 g
Soy Pillar Wax for 1,000 finished 120 g unscented candles (1,036 pours, 4 g trim each, 3% pour loss) · 13 × 10 kg + 2 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g = ₹79,500.00 · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
How much pillar wax for 1,000 unscented 120 g candles? 1,32,317.92 g with our working allowances: 3% failed releases, 5 test pours, 4 g trimmed per candle and 3% pour loss. The bare 1,000 × 120 g = 1,20,000 g is the floor, not the order.

Is 1,000 × 120 g right if there is no fragrance? It is the right net figure, because unscented finished weight is all wax. But ordering exactly 120 kg leaves you about 95 candles short once the allowances bite: roughly 905 good candles.

What does it cost? In Soy Pillar Wax at a flat ₹0.60 a gram: 13 × 10 kg + 2 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g = ₹79,500.00, or ₹79.50 of wax per finished candle. CSI's listed bags stop at 10 kg, so ask on WhatsApp for a quote at this volume. No discount figure is published.

Would paraffin be cheaper? Per gram, yes: Fully Refined Paraffin Wax Pellets cost ₹354.00 a kilo against ₹600.00. But they are listed only up to 1 kg bags, and a different wax gives a different finished weight in the same mould. Re-weigh before you switch.
The short answer
Rule: Unscented: wax = finished weight. The order is finished weight × candles, plus failed releases, tests, trimmings and pour loss.
Build-up: 1,20,000 g net + 4,320 g failed and test pours + 4,144 g trim + 3,853.92 g pour loss = 1,32,317.92 g.
Priced: Soy Pillar Wax 13 × 10 kg + 2 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g: ₹79,500.00 (₹79.50 a candle). With trimmings remelted: 1,28,049.60 g, ₹77,100.00. What 25 kg makes runs it in reverse.
1,000 unscented 120 g candles — why the wax order is 132.32 kg, not 120 kg Every gram below is wax: with no fragrance, finished weight and wax weight are the same thing 1,000 × 120 g = 1,20,000 g + 31 failed releases + 5 tests × 120 g = 4,320 g + 4 g trimmed from each of 1,036 pours = 4,144 g + 3% pour loss on 1,28,464 g = 3,853.92 g 3% failed releases, 5 test pours, 4 g trim and 3% pour loss are labelled working assumptions · 120 g is the weighed finished candle
The dark block is the 120 kg every customer receives. The lighter blocks are wax that never reaches a customer. The failed releases and test pours are full candles. The trimmings come off every pour, test and failure included. The pour loss is taken on everything that goes through the jug. Each allowance is a labelled working assumption, so replace each one with your own record.
Straight answer
I need 1,000 decorative mould candles with no fragrance. How much pillar wax should I buy if each finished candle weighs 120 g?
With no fragrance oil, the finished candle is all wax. So 1,000 × 120 g = 1,20,000 g is the correct net figure. It is the one case where candles × weight does not overstate the wax. It is still not the order. Four things consume wax that no customer receives, each set here as a labelled working assumption. First, failed releases: at 3%, 1,000 good candles need 1,031 production pours. Second, 5 test pours. Third, trimming: levelling the base and seam, 4 g off every one of the 1,036 pours. Fourth, pour loss of 3% for jug residue and drips. Together they take the order to 1,32,317.92 g. In Soy Pillar Wax at a flat ₹0.60 a gram that is 13 × 10 kg + 2 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g for ₹79,500.00, or ₹79.50 of wax per finished candle. If you remelt the trimmings into later batches, you need 1,28,049.60 g. CSI's listed bags stop at 10 kg, so at this volume ask on WhatsApp for a quote. No discount figure is published. Ordering exactly 120 kg would leave you about 905 good candles.
One line: 1,000 × 120 g is what the customers get; 1,32,317.92 g is what the moulds, the knife and the jug need.
Soy Pillar Wax costs ₹0.60 a gram in every listed bag: ₹300.00 for 500 g, ₹600.00 for 1 kg, ₹3,000.00 for 5 kg and ₹6,000.00 for 10 kg. For a 1,32,317.92 g order that is thirteen 10 kg bags and a few small ones. Ask on WhatsApp whether it can be supplied in larger units.

Building the order: four allowances on 120 kg

Every page in this series warns you not to treat finished weight as wax weight. This is the page where you can, and it still is not the order.

For a scented candle the net wax is the finished weight minus the oil, and ordering candles × weight in wax over-buys. With no fragrance there is no oil to subtract, so the finished candle is exactly its wax. That makes the net calculation trivial: 1,000 × 120 g = 120,000 g. Everything interesting happens after that, in the allowances. A decorative mould candle loses more material on the way to the customer than a jar candle does, because it has to leave the mould intact and be trimmed to look finished.

Working assumptions: 3% failed releases, 5 test pours, 4 g trimmed per pour, 3% pour loss · unscented · wax = finished weight
The allowance build-up for 1,000 × 120 g
Allowance How it is calculated Wax added Running total
Net: finished candles 1,000 × 120 g — 1,20,000 g
Failed releases 1,000 ÷ 0.97 = 1030.93 → 1,031 pours; 31 × 120 g 3,720 g 1,23,720 g
Test pours 5 × 120 g 600 g 1,24,320 g
Trimming 1,036 pours × 4 g 4,144 g 1,28,464 g
Pour loss 3% × 1,28,464 g 3,853.92 g 1,32,317.92 g
Total over net 12,317.92 g 10.3% over 120 kg

The order matters. Failed releases and test pours are whole candles, so they are counted in candles and multiplied by the finished weight. Trimming happens on every pour, failures and tests included, because you trim before you know whether a candle passes inspection. Pour loss comes last because it applies to everything that passes through the jug. Done in that order, the allowances add 10.3% to the net. If you had simply added "10% for wastage", you would have been close by luck, and you would not know which allowance to fix when a run goes wrong.

1
Weigh the finished candle, trimmed120 g must be the weight after release, trimming and any base levelling, from a real test candle in the wax you will use. My Silicone Mould Holds 240 g of Water — How Do I Estimate How Much Pillar Wax Is Required for Each Finished Candle? shows how to get there from a water fill.
2
Count failed releases in candles, not gramsDivide the good count by (1 − failure rate): 1,000 ÷ 0.97 = 1030.93, so 1,031 pours. Your first fifty pours tell you your real rate for this mould.
3
Add test pours as a fixed countFive covers a first release, a timed cycle, a colour check if coloured, a burn test and a retained sample.
4
Weigh what you trim off one candleWeigh a candle straight out of the mould and again after trimming. Here the difference is 4 g, a labelled figure. Multiply by every pour.
5
Apply pour loss last and round to bags× 1.03, then round up to Soy Pillar Wax bags: 13 × 10 kg + 2 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g.
Trimmings are wax you can get back
Clean trimmings from an unscented, uncoloured candle go straight back into the melter. If you remelt them into the same run, the order drops by 4,268.32 g to 1,28,049.60 g (12 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg + 3 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g, ₹77,100.00). Keep a clean bin for trimmings, off the floor and away from dust. Contaminated trimmings are waste, and they are what the full allowance covers.

What ordering exactly 120 kg does

It is worth running the shortcut forward to see how it fails. With 1,20,000 g of wax and the same allowances, each pour consumes 124 g (the candle plus its trimmings), and the jug takes 3% on top. That gives 939 pours. Take out 5 test pours and 3% failed releases, and you are left with about 905 good candles. The order is short by 95.

Same allowances, run forward from a fixed wax quantity
What 120 kg and the full order each deliver
Wax bought Pours possible After 5 tests Good after 3% failures vs the 1,000 order
1,20,000 g 939 934 905 95 candles short
1,32,500 g 1,037 1,032 1,001 covered, with rounding surplus
"No fragrance, so no maths." Makers who have learned to subtract the oil sometimes assume an unscented order needs no thought at all: 1,000 × 120 g, buy twelve bags. The shortfall arrives in the last week: about 95 candles, roughly 12,133.40 g of wax. At this volume it is not a top-up you can buy from the corner shop. It is another order, another delivery and another melt, all while the client waits.
The customer receives 120 kg. The moulds, the knife and the jug take the rest, whether you planned for it or not.

Which wax, at this volume

Decorative unscented candles are often poured to a price, so the wax choice matters more here than on a small scented run. CSI lists several waxes that are commonly used for freestanding candles. Here is the same order priced in each, using listed in-stock packs only:

Same 1,32,317.92 g requirement · listed in-stock packs · CSI live pricing, pulled 24–25 September 2026
The 1,000-candle order in three waxes
Wax Per gram Largest listed pack Packs for this order Cost Read this first
Soy Pillar Wax ₹0.60 10 kg 13 × 10 kg + 2 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g ₹79,500.00 Made for pillar and designer candles; the 120 g weight was measured in it
Fully Refined Paraffin Wax Pellets ₹0.354 1 kg 132 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g ₹46,905.00 Listed only to 1 kg; ask on WhatsApp for bulk supply; re-weigh the candle in paraffin
Beeswax Pellets ₹0.80 10 kg 13 × 10 kg + 3 × 1 kg ₹1,06,400.00 A premium material; re-weigh and re-test the wick in beeswax

Paraffin is ₹32,595.00 cheaper on paper for the same grams. Two things stop that from being a like-for-like saving. First, the grams are not the same. Different waxes have different densities and shrink differently, so a mould that gives a 120 g candle in soy pillar wax will give a different weight in paraffin or beeswax. Pour and weigh one in the new wax, then rerun the whole table. Second, availability at volume. Paraffin pellets are listed in 500 g and 1 kg bags, so this order would be 132 separate kilo bags. Ask on WhatsApp whether bulk supply is possible before you plan around it. The semi-refined paraffin listing showed only one unit in stock on the pull date, so treat it as unavailable. Natural Soy Pearl Wax is listed up to 50 kg, but it is not described as a pillar wax. Ask before using it for freestanding shapes.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. Soy Pillar Wax is the natural recommendation here, and it is the dearest per gram of the two main options. If your decorative candles are sold on price and your customers do not ask what they are made of, paraffin may be the right business choice. It costs ₹0.354 a gram against ₹0.60. Test it: pour, weigh, release and burn one candle in each. And do not expect a bulk saving on Soy Pillar Wax. It costs ₹0.60 a gram in every listed bag, and no volume discount is published. A quote on WhatsApp is a quote, not a promise of a lower rate.

Wicks, colour and the listed-bag limit

A decorative candle may never be lit, but if it has a wick it must burn safely, so the wick is part of the order. Each pour needs one, including the failed releases, because the wick goes in before you know whether the candle will release cleanly. That makes 1,036 wicks. Two listed options for threaded mould candles:

1,036 pours · wick size per shape is NOT published — burn-test · CSI pricing, 25 September 2026
Wicking 1,036 pours two ways
Wick How it is sold For this order Cost Per candle
Braided Wick Roll 61 m + 100 tabs, ₹706.82 1,036 × 10 cm = 103.60 m → 2 rolls ₹1,413.64 ₹1.41
Cotton Braided Wicks Ready Made ₹12.00 each at every pack size 1 × 1,000 + 4 × 10 ₹12,480.00 ₹12.48

The roll is far cheaper per candle. The ready-made wicks save cutting time and suit shapes whose height matches their length. The 10 cm per pour is a labelled working length, so measure your mould's height plus the tie-off. Wick size for a 120 g decorative shape is not published, so burn-test before the run. Colour is common on decorative candles: Red, Yellow and Blue Dye Chips are ₹250.00 each, and liquid dyes start at ₹236.00 for 15 g. Dye doses per kilo are not published, so follow the dye's product page and match colour on the test pours. Remember that coloured trimmings can only go back into the same colour.

On the listed-bag limit: Soy Pillar Wax is listed up to 10 kg, so 13 × 10 kg + 2 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g is how the store sells this order. At more than 130 kg it is worth a message first. Ask whether the wax can be supplied in larger units, what the lead time is, and whether one batch can cover the whole run, which matters for colour consistency on a decorative range. No volume discount figure is published, so ask rather than assume. Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. This page prices a cheaper wax than the one we would naturally recommend, and it says so where paraffin may be the better business choice. It also states that Soy Pillar Wax carries no bulk discount at any listed bag size.

Wax, wick, sealer and dye prices are CSI live pricing pulled on 24–25 September 2026. Semi-refined paraffin is treated as unavailable (one unit in stock on the pull date). The 120 g finished weight is the reader's figure. Every allowance, gram and rupee figure is arithmetic shown to two decimals.

The 3% failed releases, 5 test pours, 4 g trim, 3% pour loss and 10 cm of wick per pour are labelled working assumptions, not CSI measurements. Wick size per shape and dye dose per kilo are not published. Other waxes give different finished weights in the same mould. For quantities above the listed bags, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926. No discount figure is published.

Frequently asked questions

How much wax do I need for 1,000 unscented candles?
Start with candles × finished weight, which for unscented candles is all wax. For 120 g that is 120 kg. Then add failed releases, test pours, trimmings and pour loss. With our working allowances the order is 1,32,317.92 g.
Is finished candle weight the same as wax weight?
Only for unscented candles. With fragrance oil, the oil is part of the finished weight (oil = weight × load), so the wax is less than the finished weight. With no fragrance, finished weight and wax weight are the same.
How much wax is wasted making mould candles?
It depends on your mould, wax and process, and no figure is published. As working assumptions this page uses 3% failed releases, 4 g trimmed per candle and 3% pour loss, which together with 5 tests add 10.3% to 120 kg. Log one run and replace them with your own figures.
Is paraffin cheaper than soy pillar wax for decorative candles?
Per gram, yes: ₹354.00 a kilo for Fully Refined Paraffin Wax Pellets against ₹600.00 for Soy Pillar Wax. But paraffin is listed only up to 1 kg bags, and a different wax gives a different finished weight in the same mould. Pour, weigh and burn-test one first.
Can I buy more than 10 kg of pillar wax at once?
CSI lists Soy Pillar Wax up to a 10 kg bag, and you can order as many bags as you need. For very large quantities, ask on WhatsApp about supply and lead time. No volume discount figure is published.
Do decorative mould candles need wicks?
If they are sold as candles, yes, and each pour needs one, including failed releases. That is 1,036 wicks for 1,000 good candles here. A 61 m braided wick roll (₹706.82) covers about 610 candles at 10 cm each. Wick size per shape is not published, so burn-test.
