Identical candles · wax consistency
Yes, buying all the wax at once is the right instinct. But "one batch" is something you ask for, not something you can see on our listings, and it is only one of several things that keep 1,000 candles looking alike. The rest is in how you sample, test and mix the bags you receive.
₹253.70
the cost of a sealed 500 g retained sample of CSI 464 — the cheapest insurance on a ₹1,18,536.00 order of 1,000 × 85 g tins · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
Should I buy all my wax from one batch for 1,000 identical candles? Buy it all in one order, and ask for one lot. CSI does not publish batch or lot numbers on its listings, so message us on WhatsApp before you order and ask whether your full quantity can be supplied from a single lot and whether bags are marked. Then protect yourself either way with a retained sample, test pours and blending.

How much wax do 1,000 candles need? For 85 g tins at 8%: 78.2 g of wax each, 78.2 kg in total, and 81.328 kg with a 4% pour-loss allowance (working assumption). That is 85 kg as eight 10 kg bags and one 5 kg bag of CSI 464 (₹43,129.00), or five bags of Natural Soy Pearl (₹36,108.00).

What is a retained sample? A sealed, labelled portion of the wax, and of the oil, from the order the client approved, kept away from heat and light. If a later batch looks different, you compare against it. 500 g of CSI 464 costs ₹253.70.

What if the bags come from different lots? Test-pour from each bag before production, then blend: draw each melt from several bags in rotation, so no single batch depends on one bag. Small bag-to-bag differences average out across the order instead of showing up as one odd batch.
The short answer
Lots: CSI publishes no batch or lot information on its listings. Ask on WhatsApp whether your full order can ship from one lot and whether bags carry a lot mark.
Buying: 1,000 × 85 g tins at 8% need 81.328 kg of wax with allowance: 9 bags of CSI 464 (₹43,129.00) or 5 bags of Natural Soy Pearl (₹36,108.00). Buy it all in one order.
Controls: Retained sample (500 g, ₹253.70) · two test tins per bag (₹2,025.90 for nine bags) · blend each melt from three bags in rotation.
Shop: CSI 464 · Natural Soy Pearl · Golden Tin · lot question on WhatsApp.
One order, nine bags: sample, test and blend before the first production melt Bag 1 10 kg Bag 2 10 kg Bag 3 10 kg Bag 4 10 kg Bag 5 10 kg Bag 6 10 kg Bag 7 10 kg Bag 8 10 kg Bag 9 5 kg From every bag: label with the bag number and date · keep a sealed 500 g retained sample (one per order is the minimum) Pour two test tins per bag with the production oil, wick and tin · compare with the approved reference Melt pattern A one-third each from bags 1, 4, 7 Melt pattern B one-third each from bags 2, 5, 8 Melt pattern C one-third each from bags 3, 6, 9 About 9 melts of 9.2 kg wax (10 kg of candle at 8%) · rotate patterns A → B → C so no batch depends on one bag CSI does not publish batch or lot numbers — ask on WhatsApp whether your order can ship from one lot Bag sizes: CSI 464 listed 500 g to 10 kg · Natural Soy Pearl to 50 kg · pattern and sample sizes are working assumptions
Every bag is labelled and sampled, and two test tins are poured from it before production begins. Production melts then draw from three bags at once, rotating through three patterns, so any small difference between bags is spread thinly across the whole order instead of concentrated in one batch. The lot question is asked before ordering, because we do not publish lot numbers.
Straight answer
I need 1,000 identical candles — should I buy all the wax from one batch to reduce production variation?
Yes, buy all of it in one order, and ask for one lot. Don't assume you will get one, though. CSI does not publish batch or lot numbers on its listings, so the honest route is to message us on WhatsApp before ordering and ask whether your full quantity can ship from a single lot and whether the bags are marked. For 1,000 × 85 g Golden Aluminium Tins at 8%, you need 78.2 kg of wax, or 81.328 kg with a 4% allowance. Buying it as nine bags of CSI 464 (₹43,129.00) rather than 82 one-kilo packs cuts the number of possible sources of difference. Five bags of Natural Soy Pearl (₹36,108.00) cuts it further. Then control what you can. Keep a sealed 500 g retained sample (₹253.70). Test-pour two tins from every bag before production (₹2,025.90 for nine bags). And blend: draw each melt from three bags in rotation. Most visible variation in a big order comes from process rather than wax, such as pour temperature, cooling and fill weight, so pair this with a batch sheet.
One line: ask for one lot, but plan for several: sample every bag, test every bag, and blend so no batch depends on one.
Before you order the wax, ask the lot question. Message us with the product and the full quantity, for example 85 kg of CSI 464. Ask whether it can ship from one lot and whether bags carry a lot mark. Then place the whole wax order in one go: 8 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg of CSI 464 for ₹43,129.00.
Ask about lots on WhatsApp

What we can and can't tell you about lots

Our listings show a price and a pack size. They do not show a lot number. So one lot is a question you ask, not a box you tick.

Wax is made in production runs, and natural waxes like soy can differ slightly from one run to the next. In general practice that might mean a faintly different shade of white, a different tendency to frost, or a surface that sets a little differently. None of that is measured or published on CSI's listings, and we don't publish lot or batch numbers either. So you can't choose a lot from the website, and you shouldn't assume two orders placed weeks apart came from the same run. What you can do is ask, before ordering, whether your full quantity can ship together from one lot. Ask on WhatsApp, and plan as if the answer might be no.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. It would be easy to promise that every bag we ship is identical, so that you never need to test. We haven't published lot data, so we won't make that promise on this page. For a 1,000-piece order where a client expects every candle to match, test every bag you receive, keep a sample, and blend. It costs you a few hundred rupees and a day. It also means that if something is ever off, you find it on a test tin rather than on a delivered order.

The example order is a corporate client taking 1,000 × 85 g Golden Aluminium Tins, whose 85 g fill is published, scented with Bergamot Amber Fragrance Oil at 8%. Each tin holds 6.8 g of oil and 78.2 g of wax. The client wants them to look identical on a reception table, so colour, surface and fill matter as much as scent. I'm Producing a Large Candle Order in Several Batches — How Do I Keep Fragrance Strength, Colour and Fill Weight Identical from the First Batch to the Last? covers keeping scent, colour and fill identical from batch to batch. This page deals with the wax itself.

Buy once, in fewer bags

The first rule is simple: one order for the whole job. Buying 20 kg now and topping up later is the most reliable way to end up with wax from two different runs. The second rule is to buy in the fewest, largest bags that suit your melter and your storage. Fewer bags means fewer possible sources of difference, and fewer things to sample, label and track. Here are four ways to buy the same 85 kg:

85 kg covers 1,000 × 78.2 g + 4% allowance · CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026
Same wax quantity, different number of bags
Option Packs Bags to sample and track Cost Per kg
CSI 464 in 1 kg packs 82 × 1 kg 82 ₹41,606.80 ₹507.40
CSI 464 in 5 kg bags 17 × 5 kg 17 ₹43,129.00 ₹507.40
CSI 464 in 10 kg bags 8 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg 9 ₹43,129.00 ₹507.40
Natural Soy Pearl, 50 kg + 10 kg + 5 kg 1 × 50 kg + 3 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg 5 ₹36,108.00 ₹424.80

CSI 464 costs ₹507.40 a kilo whether you buy 1 kg or 10 kg. The nine bags cost ₹1,522.20 more than 82 one-kilo packs only because bag sizes round the order up to 85 kg, and that extra 3 kg is usable stock. In exchange you have 73 fewer packs to label, sample and check. Natural Soy Pearl Wax is listed up to a 50 kg bag, and it is ₹424.80 a kilo from 5 kg up, so five bags cost ₹36,108.00, which is ₹7,021.00 less than CSI 464. It is a different wax, though. No fragrance-load ceiling is quoted for it in our data, while CSI 464 is rated up to 10% by the wax maker. Check its product page or ask us, and treat 6–10% as a test range, not a spec. Only switch after a burn test in your tin. My Premium Soy Wax Costs More per Kg but Produces Fewer Rejects — How Do I Calculate Whether It Is Actually Cheaper than My Budget Wax? covers comparing waxes on reject rates as well as price.

Label every bag the day it arrives
Write a bag number (1, 2, 3…), the delivery date and the order reference on each bag with a marker, before anything is opened. If bags carry a printed lot mark, copy it onto your record too. From then on, every test tin and every production batch notes which bag numbers it came from. Without that, a problem batch can't be traced back to a bag.

The retained sample and the test pour

You can't compare a batch against a memory. Keep the physical reference.

A retained sample is a portion of the materials the client approved, sealed, labelled and stored cool and dark until the order has been delivered and accepted. For the wax, 500 g is plenty. From CSI 464 that is ₹253.70 of wax. Keep the approved candle too, and a small sealed amount of the oil. I Need Several Kilograms of One Fragrance for a Corporate Order — Should I Test the Bulk Fragrance Batch Against My Original Sample Before Production? covers the oil side. If a batch in week two looks different, you pour a tin from the retained sample alongside it and see straight away whether the difference is the wax or your process.

1
Set aside the retained sampleWhen the wax arrives, take 500 g from the bag that matches the one used for the approved candle, or from bag 1 if you are starting fresh. Seal it in a labelled container with the date and bag number.
2
Pour two test tins from every bagUse the production oil at 8%, the production wick and the production tin, so the only variable is the bag. Each test tin costs about ₹112.55 in materials, so nine bags × two tins is ₹2,025.90.
3
Pour and cool them togetherPour all the test tins in one session at the same temperature, and cool them side by side on the same shelf. Different cooling conditions cause more surface variation than most bags will.
4
Compare against the referenceAfter your normal cure, set them in a row beside the approved candle, in daylight. Look at the shade of white, the surface, any frosting, the adhesion to the tin and the smell at lid-off. Burn one from each bag for a couple of hours and compare the melt pool.
5
Decide bag by bagAny bag that clearly differs goes aside, and you ask us about it on WhatsApp with photos and the bag's details. Don't use it for the client's order until it has been resolved. The rest go into the blend.
The CSI principle
Test the bag, not the order.
An order is a set of bags. A test tin from one bag says nothing about the others. For a job where every piece must match, the cost of pouring two tins per bag is small next to the cost of finding a mismatched bag halfway through production.

Blend across bags

Even bags that pass the test pour won't be perfectly identical, and nor would they be from a single run. The standard answer is to blend: fill each melt from several bags, so that any small difference is spread across the whole order instead of showing up in one batch. With nine bags and melts of about 9.2 kg of wax (10 kg of candle at 8%), the order needs about 9 melts. Each melt makes up to 117 tins, before pour loss.

Working assumption: 9 bags, melts of 9.2 kg wax drawn one-third from each of three bags
A simple rotation that keeps every batch mixed
Melt Draw from bags Wax from each Oil added (8% of 10 kg) Record on the batch sheet
1, 4, 7 1 + 4 + 7 (pattern A) about 3.07 kg 800 g Bergamot Amber Bag numbers, oil bottle number, time, temperatures
2, 5, 8 2 + 5 + 8 (pattern B) about 3.07 kg 800 g Same
3, 6, 9 3 + 6 + 9 (pattern C) about 3.07 kg 800 g Same
Later melts Keep rotating A → B → C as bags empty; mix in the remaining bags Weigh each draw 800 g per 10 kg Note any bag that runs out mid-melt

Weigh the wax, not the scoop. At 8% of a 10 kg melt the oil is 800 g against 9.2 kg of wax. If the wax is under-weighed by half a kilo, the effective load in that batch rises to about 8.4%, and those tins will smell and look different from the rest. Use a weighing scale (₹354.00) for every draw, and write the weights down. The Electric Wax Melter is listed in 10 kg (₹21,240.00) and 20 kg (₹25,960.00) capacities. Its throughput per hour is not published, so time your own melts. I Need to Produce 500 Candles in Seven Days — How Do I Calculate Whether My Current Melting Equipment, Moulds and Workspace Can Handle the Production Volume? works through capacity for a fixed deadline.

The one-bag-per-day habit. A maker empties bag 1 on Monday, bag 2 on Tuesday, and so on. If bag 6 happens to set a shade creamier, every Saturday candle is creamier, and they are all packed together in the same cartons. Fix: blend three bags per melt and rotate the patterns. A slight difference then shows up as a spread across the whole order that nobody will notice, not as one visible block of odd candles.

What varies more than the wax

When a big order comes out uneven, the wax lot gets the blame first. In general practice, process changes cause visible differences at least as often. Before you ask about the wax, check these:

General candle-making practice — test in your own tins
Common sources of variation and how to hold them steady
Source What it can change How to control it
Pour temperature Surface finish, adhesion, frosting Pour every batch at the same temperature, checked with a pen thermometer (₹354.00)
Room temperature and cooling Sinkholes, wet spots, surface texture Cool on the same shelves, away from fans and windows; note the room temperature on the batch sheet
Oil weighed per batch Scent strength, surface, sometimes shade Weigh oil against the weighed wax, never by volume or "a splash"
Fill weight Visible fill line, burn time Tare every tin; check a sample of fills per batch against the 85 g target
Wick placement Off-centre melt pools, soot Use Wick Centering Devices (5 for ₹118.00) or Steel Wick Holders (5 for ₹250.00)
Wax lot Shade, frosting tendency, set One order, ask for one lot, test each bag, blend

Only the last row is about the wax lot, and it is also the one you control least. The other five you control completely, which is why a written batch sheet does more for consistency than anything else. I'm Producing a Large Candle Order in Several Batches — How Do I Keep Fragrance Strength, Colour and Fill Weight Identical from the First Batch to the Last? gives a batch sheet template, and I'm Accepting a 1,000-Piece Custom Candle Order — What Should be Fully Tested and Approved Before I Spend Money on Bulk Raw Materials? covers what to approve with the client before you buy a gram of bulk wax.

One lot is a request. A retained sample, a test pour per bag and a blended melt are controls. Ask for the first, and rely on the other three.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. On consistency, the comfortable claim for a supplier is that every bag is identical. We don't publish lot data, so this page doesn't make that claim. It tells you to ask, to test every bag and to blend, even though that makes the question of lots ours to answer on WhatsApp, not something you can take for granted.

Wax and oil prices are CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026. Tin, melter, holder and wick-accessory prices were pulled 24–25 September 2026. Eco wick, scale, thermometer and centering-device prices are Blog 760's, verified 10 September 2026. Quantities and costs are arithmetic on those prices.

Descriptions of how soy wax can vary between runs are general candle-making practice, not CSI measurements. The 500 g sample, two tins per bag, three-bag blend and 4% allowance are working assumptions. To ask whether an order can ship from one lot, or for MSDS documentation and GST invoicing, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Frequently asked questions

Does soy wax vary from batch to batch?
In general practice, natural waxes can differ slightly between production runs, for example in shade, frosting or how the surface sets. CSI does not publish lot data or measurements, so test-pour from each bag you receive, keep a retained sample, and blend bags across melts on a large order.
Can I choose a wax batch number when ordering from CSI?
Lot or batch numbers aren't shown on CSI's listings. Before you order, message CSI on WhatsApp with the product and full quantity, and ask whether it can be supplied from one lot and whether bags are marked.
How much wax for 1,000 candles of 85 g?
At an 8% load, 78.2 g of wax a candle, so 78.2 kg. With a 4% pour-loss allowance (working assumption) that is 81.328 kg, bought as 85 kg: nine bags of CSI 464 for ₹43,129.00, or five bags of Natural Soy Pearl for ₹36,108.00.
What is a retained sample in candle making?
A sealed, labelled portion of the approved wax and oil, and ideally the approved candle, kept cool and dark until the order has been accepted. It lets you check whether a batch that looks different is caused by the materials or by your process.
Why do my candles look different between batches?
Most often because of process: a different pour temperature, room temperature or cooling position, oil weighed loosely, or fills that vary. Wax lot is possible but less controllable. Record those variables on a batch sheet (I'm Producing a Large Candle Order in Several Batches — How Do I Keep Fragrance Strength, Colour and Fill Weight Identical from the First Batch to the Last?) before you blame the wax.
Is it better to buy wax in 10 kg or 1 kg packs for a big order?
For CSI 464 the price is the same per kilo (₹507.40), so choose bigger bags. Fewer bags mean fewer possible differences to test and track. Natural Soy Pearl is cheaper from 5 kg (₹424.80 a kilo) and is listed up to 50 kg.
One order, fewer bags
Ask for one lot. Then sample every bag, test every bag and blend, so no batch depends on luck.
CSI 464 at ₹507.40 a kilo from 1 kg to 10 kg, Natural Soy Pearl from ₹450.00 for 1 kg to ₹21,240.00 for 50 kg, Golden Tins at 12 for ₹360.00 and Bergamot Amber to ₹5,437.00 a kilo. Tell us your quantity and we will answer the lot question.
