100 candles · 10% vs 8% fragrance load
Each 200 g candle gains 4 g of oil and loses 4 g of wax. On 100 candles with allowances that is 453.6 g more oil — ₹2,230.20 in Saffron Cedarwood bought the right way, at 500 g.
₹2,230.20
additional Saffron Cedarwood for 10% over 8% on 100 × 200 g candles · ₹1,905.20 on the full CSI order after the wax saving · CSI live pricing, October 2026
Quick answers — read this first
How much more oil for 10%? 400 g net on 100 × 200 g (4 g a candle); 453.6 g with 4 tests, 3% rejects and 5% pour loss. That is 25% more oil.

What does it cost? In Saffron Cedarwood: ₹12,425.40 against ₹10,195.20 — +₹2,230.20. The full CSI order moves by ₹1,905.20 after ₹325.00 less wax.

Which waxes allow 10%? CSI's pages state CSI 468 and Chunks up to 13% and CSI 464 up to 10% (no headroom). Natural Soy Pearl: none published.

Buy now or top up? Buying 8% now and topping up costs ₹354.00 more if 10% wins, and saves ₹2,230.20 if 8% passes. Test first: the six-candle kit is ₹2,601.04.
The short answer
Answer: 100 × 200 g at 10% needs 2,000 g of oil against 1,600 g at 8%: 400 g more, or 453.6 g more with allowances.
Why: Load is a share of the finished candle, so 10% puts 20 g of oil in a 200 g candle instead of 16 g. The step is 25% more oil, and the bottle rounding adds a little on top.
Method: Check the wax's stated ceiling → stack allowances at each load → round to in-stock bottles (watch per-gram quirks like Saffron Cedarwood's 1 kg) → test 3 + 3 candles → buy the oil route that matches the result.
What 10% changes in a 200 g candle, and on 100 of them Saffron Cedarwood · CSI 468 coconut soy · finished-weight convention · allowances as labelled 16 g oil 184 g wax 8% load 20 g oil 180 g wax 10% load +4 g ON 100 CANDLES, WITH ALLOWANCES Oil 1,814.4 g → 2,268.0 g (+453.6 g, +25%) Wax 20,865.6 g → 20,412.0 g (−453.6 g) CSI order ₹32,735.20 → ₹34,640.40 TWO WAYS TO BUY THE EXTRA OIL 10% up front: 4 × 500 g + 3 × 100 g · ₹12,425.40 8% now + top-up later: + 1 × 500 g · ₹12,779.40 Top-up route costs ₹354.00 more, but risks nothing if 8% passes 10% only fits waxes whose stated ceiling allows it: Chunks and CSI 468 up to 13%; CSI 464 up to 10% (no headroom).
A 200 g candle at 8% and at 10%, drawn to scale: the oil band grows by 4 g and the wax shrinks by the same amount. On 100 candles with labelled allowances the oil rises by 453.6 g; buying for 8% and topping up later costs ₹354.00 more than buying for 10% up front, but nothing extra if 8% passes.
Straight answer
I need 100 candles at 10% fragrance load — how much additional fragrance oil should I purchase compared with an 8% formula?
Purchase 400 g more fragrance oil on the net batch, or 453.6 g more once allowances are carried on the higher load — for 100 × 200 g candles that is 2,268.0 g at 10% against 1,814.4 g at 8% (4 test candles, 3% rejects and 5% pour loss, all labelled working assumptions). Ten per cent is a quarter more oil than eight. Rounded to in-stock Saffron Cedarwood bottles it is 4 × 500 g + 3 × 100 g for ₹12,425.40 against 3 × 500 g + 3 × 100 g + 1 × 50 g for ₹10,195.20: ₹2,230.20 of additional oil, offset by ₹325.00 less CSI 468 wax, so the full CSI order rises by ₹1,905.20. Only use 10% in a wax whose page states a ceiling above it — CSI 468 and Chunks state 13%; CSI 464 states 10% and leaves no headroom. If you are not sure you need 10%, buy for 8% and test: topping up later costs ₹354.00 more if 10% wins.
One line: 10% is a quarter more oil than 8%; buy it at the right bottle size, in a wax that allows it, after a test says you need it.
For 100 candles of 200 g, 10% takes 400 g more fragrance oil than 8% before allowances (2,000 g against 1,600 g) and 453.6 g more after them. In Saffron Cedarwood that is 4 × 500 g + 3 × 100 g at ₹12,425.40 against 3 × 500 g + 3 × 100 g + 1 × 50 g at ₹10,195.20: ₹2,230.20 of additional oil, with ₹325.00 less CSI 468 wax.

The additional oil, measured three ways

Going from 8% to 10% is a quarter more fragrance oil. Not two per cent more — a quarter.

The title gives the count and both loads; it does not give the candle weight, so this page uses 200 g as a labelled working figure, as the rest of the series does. Load is a share of the finished candle: a 200 g candle at 8% holds 16 g of oil and 184 g of wax; at 10% it holds 20 g of oil and 180 g of wax. Each candle gains 4 g of oil and loses 4 g of wax. Multiply by 100 and the extra purchase is 400 g of oil, or 25% more than the 8% formula.

100 candles × 200 g · finished-weight convention · allowances: 4 tests, 3% rejects, 5% pour loss (labelled)

100 candles, net 1,600 g 2,000 g +400 g
100 candles with allowances 1,814.4 g 2,268.0 g +453.6 g
Bought as Saffron Cedarwood 3 × 500 g + 3 × 100 g + 1 × 50 g = 1,850 g 4 × 500 g + 3 × 100 g = 2,300 g +450 g
Oil price ₹10,195.20 ₹12,425.40 +₹2,230.20
Wax with allowances (CSI 468) 20,865.6 g 20,412.0 g −453.6 g

So there are three honest answers to "how much additional oil": 4 g per candle, 400 g on the net batch, and 453.6 g once the same allowances are carried on the larger load. The third is the one to buy, because test candles, rejects and the oil left in the jug all scale with the load. The bottle count moves by more than the grams — 450 g — because the extra lands on the step between bottle sizes. The 6%-versus-8% page runs the step below this one.

Check whether your recipe card writes load on the wax
If your 10% means "100 g of oil per kilo of wax", the true load on the finished candle is 9.09%, not 10%. To hit a true 10% on 1 kg of wax you need 111.11 g of oil. This page uses the finished-weight convention; the 10% oud post shows how mixing the two conventions overfills a formula.

First check that 10% is allowed in your wax

A 10% formula is only an option in a wax whose maker states a ceiling at or above 10%. Those ceilings are formulation limits published by the wax maker, not regulatory figures and not targets. CSI's soy-wax product pages state three of them; the fourth container wax has none published.

Fragrance ceilings as CSI's product pages state them · CSI live pricing, re-checked 1 October 2026
Room for 10% in each CSI container soy wax
Wax Stated ceiling Headroom at 10% Wax for 100 × 200 g at 10% Price
Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 up to 13% 3 points 2 × 10 kg + 1 × 500 g ₹13,065.00
Luxury Soy Wax Chunks up to 13% 3 points 41 × 500 g ₹12,259.00
Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 up to 10% none — at the ceiling 2 × 10 kg + 1 × 500 g ₹10,408.00
Natural Soy Pearl Wax not published unknown — ask on WhatsApp 2 × 10 kg + 1 × 1 kg ₹8,946.00

This page uses Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 because its product page states both a 13% ceiling and handling figures — melting point 50–53°C and pour at 58–60°C — so a 10% formula sits three points inside the maker's limit with instructions you can follow. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks also states 13% and is a reasonable alternative. Nothing here says either throws better at 10%; CSI publishes no throw data for any wax. The choice between them belongs to a side-by-side test, not to this page.

The quiet overfill: running CSI 464 at exactly 10%. It is within the page's stated limit, but there is no room for weighing error. A 200 g candle at 10% holds 20 g of oil; one gram over on a scale that reads in whole grams makes it 10.45% of the finished candle — above the ceiling. Fix: if 10% is the formula, use a wax with headroom, weigh oil per batch rather than per candle, and record the weights. The overfill post goes through the arithmetic in detail.

Rounding the extra to real CSI bottles

Saffron Cedarwood is one of the few CSI oils that costs more per gram at 1 kg than at 500 g.

Saffron Cedarwood Fragrance Oil is listed at 15 g ₹103.84, 50 g ₹354.00, 100 g ₹696.20, 500 g ₹2,584.20 and 1 kg ₹6,867.60, all in stock on the 4 October 2026 re-check. Per gram: ₹6.92, ₹7.08, ₹6.96, ₹5.17 and ₹6.87. The 500 g bottle is the cheapest gram on the listing by a wide margin, and the 1 kg bottle is 33% dearer per gram than it. So the rounding below never uses a 1 kg bottle, and it should not: buying the 10% quantity as 2 × 1 kg + small bottles instead would cost ₹3,398.40 more (2 × 1 kg + 3 × 100 g at ₹15,823.80).

Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 rounds in the opposite direction. At 8% the stack needs 20,865.6 g: 2 × 10 kg + 1 × 1 kg for ₹13,390.00. At 10% it needs 20,412.0 g: 2 × 10 kg + 1 × 500 g for ₹13,065.00. The higher load saves one 500 g bag's difference, ₹325.00. CSI 468 is ₹650.00 a kilo at 500 g and 1 kg and ₹637.00 at 5 and 10 kg, so the two 10 kg bags carry the small bulk step and the top-up bag does not.

The CSI principle
Price the extra oil at the bottle you will actually buy, not at the per-gram rate on the label.
At production rates the 10% candle costs ₹18.13 more than the 8% one (4 g more oil at ₹5.17/g, 4 g less wax at ₹0.64/g). Rounded to bottles, the 100-candle order moves by ₹1,905.20.

Buy 10% up front, or 8% now and top up later?

Many makers do not know yet whether they need 10%. They plan at 8% and keep the option of going higher. That is sensible, but the top-up is not free: the extra oil is bought in smaller bottles after the fact, and the 8% order may already have rounded up past what it needed. For Saffron Cedarwood, the 8% order buys 1,850 g; the 10% need is 2,268.0 g, so the top-up is 418.0 g — bought as 1 × 500 g for ₹2,584.20. The two routes compare like this:

Same allowances, same oil lot assumption · CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026, stock re-checked 4 October 2026

B if 8% passes the test 3 × 500 g + 3 × 100 g + 1 × 50 g 1,850 g 35.6 g ₹10,195.20

Route B costs ₹354.00 more if you end up at 10%, and ₹2,230.20 less if 8% passes. Route A only wins when you are already confident 10% is the formula. One more consideration points the same way: a top-up bottle may come from a different lot from the first bottles, so blend the lots or keep candles from each lot separate until you have checked they match. CSI publishes no lot-consistency data; record the order date on each bottle.

Across these eight oils the additional spend for 10% runs from ₹1,482.08 (Honeydew Melon) to ₹2,701.00 (Spicy Raspberry). The top-up penalty depends almost entirely on where the 8% order's rounding left you: where the 8% bottles already overshot, the top-up is small; where the extra has to be bought as a fresh 500 g bottle, it is larger. The minimum-leftover post is the place to go if you want to engineer that remainder rather than accept it.

The complete CSI order at 8% and 10%

Everything except wax and oil is identical at both loads: one jar, one wick and one sticker per candle poured, plus labelled spares. Jars are White Matte Glass Jar — CSI does not publish its fill weight, so weigh a test pour before ordering for 200 g. Wicks are Eco Candle Wicks Thin C1 as the example; a 10% candle may need a different wick from an 8% one, and CSI publishes no wick size per diameter, which is one reason the production wick waits for the test.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. A 10% order sells ₹2,230.20 more of our oil. We still will not tell you 10% throws better than 8%: CSI publishes no throw measurements, and a higher load in a candle whose melt pool never reaches the edge mostly buys more oil per candle, not more scent in the room. Test 8% and 10% side by side, and if 8% meets your floor, buy route B and keep the money.

The six-candle test that decides the extra purchase

1
Weigh both formulas on the finished weight8%: 16 g oil + 184 g wax. 10%: 20 g oil + 180 g wax. Weigh oil for each candle on a scale that reads to 0.1 g if you have one.
2
Pour three of each from one bottle and one bagSix candles, one oil lot, one wax bag, one wick type, one jar. Oil needed: 108 g, or 113.4 g with 5% allowance.
3
Follow the wax maker's handlingCSI's page for CSI 468 states pour at 58–60°C. Use the same temperatures, stirring time and cooling spot for both loads.
4
Cure to the same checkpointLabelled examples: score cold throw at 7 and 14 days. Never compare a 10% candle at 14 days with an 8% candle at 7.
5
Burn in matched pairs and watch safety lines first3–4 hour cycles (a commonly used working practice). A 10% candle that runs a bigger flame, more soot or a hotter jar than the 8% control fails, however strong it smells. CSI publishes no numeric flame or jar-temperature limit; use "no worse than the control".
6
Decide, then buy the oil route8% passes your throw floor → route B ends here at ₹10,195.20. Only 10% passes → buy 4 × 500 g + 3 × 100 g at ₹12,425.40, or the 1 × 500 g top-up if 8% bottles are already in hand.

After the test, the split is simple. Buy now: the CSI 468 wax (buy the 8% quantity, 2 × 10 kg + 1 × 1 kg; it covers 10% with 588.0 g to spare), the jars and the stickers. Buy after the test: the production oil at the load that passed, and the production wicks once the wick has passed a full burn at that load. The burn-test budget post prices a fuller test programme, and the wick sample-ladder post covers testing wicks at the same time.

Diwali falls on Sunday 8 November 2026. An 8%-versus-10% test poured this week leaves time to cure, burn and still pour production before the festive peak. Send your candle weight, wax and oil on WhatsApp and we will price route A and route B side by side — quantities beyond the listed bottles are quoted on WhatsApp, and no discount figure is published.

This page owns the extra purchase for 10% over 8%. 100 oud candles at 10% owns getting a 10% formula right without overfilling; 6% versus 8% owns the step below; buying for 105 or 110 owns the size of the buffer; two fragrances, one wax pack owns sharing wax between oils; and the 100-candle template pulls every line into one sheet. For bigger runs, 1,000 candles at 10% scales the same arithmetic.

Ten per cent is a quarter more oil than eight. Make the candle earn it before you buy it.

Wax without a published ceiling? Natural Soy Pearl Wax has none on its product page — treat 10% as a test value only and ask on WhatsApp for the maker's stated maximum. Never go above 13% in any CSI wax, and never above 10% in CSI 464. Browse all fragrance oils for the per-gram ladder of any oil.
Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. A 10% formula sells more of our oil, and this page still recommends testing 8% first and keeping the difference if it passes. We publish no throw data for any oil or wax and make no claim that 10% performs better.

Oil prices are CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026, stock re-checked 4 October 2026; wax prices are CSI live pricing, re-checked 1 October 2026; wicks, jars and stickers were re-checked 4 October 2026. Every split, allowance, rounding, leftover and top-up figure is arithmetic shown to one decimal of a gram and two of a rupee.

The 200 g candle, 4 test candles, 3% rejects, 5% pour loss, 2% glass breakage, 4 spare wicks, burn cycles and cure checkpoints are labelled working assumptions. Wax ceilings are quoted from CSI's product pages as the wax makers' stated formulation limits, not regulatory figures. Frequently asked questions

How much fragrance oil for 100 candles at 10%?
For 200 g candles, 2,000 g net (20 g each), or about 2,268 g with test candles, rejects and pour loss allowed for.
How much more fragrance oil is 10% than 8%?
A quarter more: 4 g more per 200 g candle, 400 g more on 100 candles before allowances.
Can soy wax hold 10% fragrance oil?
Only where the wax maker states a ceiling at or above 10%. CSI's pages state 13% for Luxury Soy Wax Chunks and CSI 468, and 10% for CSI 464; Natural Soy Pearl has no published ceiling.
Is 10% fragrance load better than 8%?
Not by itself. CSI publishes no throw data; test three candles at each load side by side, same wick and jar, and only buy for 10% if 8% fails your throw floor without failing any safety line.
Is a 1 kg fragrance bottle always cheaper per gram?
No. For Saffron Cedarwood the 500 g bottle is ₹5.17/g and the 1 kg is ₹6.87/g. Most CSI oils are priced almost linearly above 100 g — always compute.
Can I buy 8% fragrance now and add more later?
Yes. For this order the top-up is 1 × 500 g (₹2,584.20), ₹354.00 more than buying 10% up front. Keep bottles from different orders labelled in case lots differ.
Make 10% earn its place
Test 8% against 10%. Then buy only the oil the winner needs.
Saffron Cedarwood from ₹103.84 for 15 g and ₹2,584.20 for 500 g, CSI 468 from ₹325.00 for 500 g, Chunks from ₹299.00, Eco Thin C1 wicks from ₹118.00 for 20. Tell us your candle and both loads and we will price both routes.

Non-price figures and assumptions: CSI convention: fragrance load is a share of the finished candle (oil = W × L). The 200 g candle, 4 test candles, 3% rejects, 5% pour loss, 2% glass breakage, 4 spare wicks, 3–4 hour burn cycles and 7/14-day cure checkpoints are labelled working assumptions. Oil rounding uses 50 g and larger bottles with a ₹3-per-bottle tie-break; test kits use bottles up to 100 g. What CSI's product pages state (quoted, not CSI test results): Luxury Soy Wax Chunks — maximum fragrance load 13%, cure minimum 48 hours, ideally 1–2 weeks; Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 — fragrance load up to 10%; Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 — fragrance load up to 13%, melting point 50–53°C, pour 58–60°C; Natural Soy Pearl — no fragrance ceiling, temperatures or shelf life published. CSI publishes no jar internal diameters or fill weights (except the Golden Aluminium Tin's 85 g and the Heart Cutout Velvet Jar's 50 g), no wick-size-per-diameter chart, no throw, burn or cure data for any oil or wax, and no volume discount beyond the listed packs. Lid and label lines are examples, never in the CSI total. Material costs exclude labour, packaging, freight and GST. Diwali 2026 falls on 8 November.
