I Need to Make 100 × 150 g Scented Candles at 8% Fragrance Load — How Much Wax and Fragrance Oil Do I Actually Need?

What "8% fragrance load" actually means for your order

The title gives everything a calculator needs — 100 candles, 150 g each, 8% fragrance — except one hidden choice: 8% of what. CSI's convention on every page is that the load is a share of the finished candle. A 150 g candle at 8% holds 12 g of oil and 138 g of wax. Many recipes, though, are written as a share of the wax: weigh the wax, then add 8% of that weight in oil. That puts less oil in the candle than the label suggests, and it changes the wax order too.

Reading A is the one this page uses: 1,200 g of oil and 13,800 g of wax. Reading B makes the candle with 13,888.9 g of wax and 1,111.1 g of oil — 88.9 g less oil, and a true load of 7.41% rather than 8%. Neither is wrong as long as you use one consistently, but B is not 8% of the candle, and if you tested at A and produce at B, the production candles will be weaker than your tests. Reading C is not a convention at all: it buys 150 g of wax per candle and then adds oil, so the order is 162 g of material for a 150 g jar. *Row C mixes 12 g of oil into 162 g of material, which is also 7.41% — and 12 g more than the jar holds.

The worked calculation for 100 × 150 g

Now the order itself, in the sequence CSI uses across this cluster (the hub page sets it out in full): target, split, tests, loss, packs. The title gives no wastage figure, so this page uses 3% as a labelled working assumption — the low end of the 3–5% most makers plan — and two test candles. A 150 g candle is small enough that pour loss per jar is modest; if yours is a first run, rerun at 5%.

So the title's answer is 14.50 kg of wax and 1.26 kg of fragrance oil for 100 sellable candles, two tests and 3% loss. Notice how small the gap between the conventions is in wax — 93.4 g — and how it lands mainly in the oil: 93.4 g more for a true 8%. On a 100-candle run neither difference changes the bags you buy. It changes the scent, which is the reason to get it right.

Rounding to Natural Soy Pearl bags and Jasmine bottles

Natural Soy Pearl Wax is listed at ₹450.00 for 1 kg, ₹2,124.00 for 5 kg, ₹4,248.00 for 10 kg and ₹21,240.00 for 50 kg (CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026). From 5 kg upward that is ₹424.80 a kilo — 5.6% below the 1 kg price. It is the only real wax price break among CSI's container waxes, so on this wax you should cross 5 kg as soon as your need does. No fragrance ceiling for Soy Pearl is quoted in this series: 8% is your figure, sits inside the 6–10% range makers commonly test, and you should check the product page or ask CSI on WhatsApp for the wax maker's stated maximum.

The 10 kg + 5 kg order and three 5 kg bags cost the same, ₹6,372.00; pick whichever your storage prefers. Buying the same 15 kg as 1 kg bags costs ₹378.00 more for nothing. The 3% allowance leaves 501.7 g spare — about three extra candles' worth. If your real loss comes in higher, that spare is where it goes.

Jasmine Fragrance Oil is priced at ₹4.30 a gram at 100 g and ₹3.92 at both 500 g and 1 kg — one of the oils with a real 1 kg saving (8.8% against 100 g). You need 1,260.7 g.

The priced order

A 150 g candle suits a smaller jar than CSI's 200 g default. The 200 ml Salsa Glass Jar with golden lug cap is a reasonable fit, but read its size carefully: 200 ml is the jar's brim volume, not a fill weight. Solid soy wax is lighter than water — as a labelled approximation, about 0.86–0.90 g of wax per ml, varying by wax, temperature and fill line — so the brim would hold roughly 172–180 g, and 150 g sits comfortably below it. The fill weight is not published; confirm it with one weighed test pour before ordering 100 jars.

The single-candle material cost at list rates is ₹141.10: ₹58.62 of Soy Pearl at ₹424.80 a kilo, ₹47.08 of Jasmine at the 1 kg rate, a ₹5.90 wick and a ₹29.50 jar from the 100-pack. The order works out at ₹153.85 per sellable candle because it also carries two tests, 3% loss, spare wicks, three spare jars and the leftover wax and oil. Quote against the order figure. Both exclude labour, packaging, freight and GST. The five spare wicks are a labelled allowance; wick size per jar is not published, so confirm Thin C1 against the Salsa jar's diameter in your test candles.

Already bought the wax? Work backwards

Some readers arrive here with the wax already on the floor. If you bought 15 kg of Soy Pearl for this run, the true-8% oil to match it is 15,000 × 0.08 ÷ 0.92 = 1,304.3 g, not the 1,200 g you get from 8% of the wax. That makes 16,304.3 g of finished candle — 108 candles of 150 g before any loss. The difference looks small — 6.96 g of oil per kilo of wax — but it is 8% of the oil in every candle, and it is exactly the kind of drift that makes production candles feel weaker than the test candles. Pick one method and put it on the batch sheet.

Checks before you press order

First, check the load against your wax. For Natural Soy Pearl no ceiling is quoted in this series, so 8% is your own formulation choice; if you want the headroom of a published maximum, Luxury Soy Wax Chunks are rated up to 13% and CSI 464 up to 10%. Those are the wax makers' formulation maximums, not targets and not regulatory limits.

Second, check the oil's paperwork before the run, not after. We do not publish an IFRA percentage or a flash point per oil, so ask for the IFRA certificate and MSDS on WhatsApp when you order. Third, check the weight on the label.
