Counting the 10 kg bags

The title asks for a bag count, so start with what a bag makes. The title does not give a fragrance load; this page uses 8% as a working assumption, CSI's default. At 8% of the finished weight, a 100 g candle is 92 g of wax and 8 g of oil. One 10 kg bag therefore makes 108.7 candles before any loss, or about 104.5 after a 4% loss allowance. Five hundred candles need 46,000 g of wax net — 4.6 bags, not 5 — and with five test candles and 4% loss, 48,318.4 g, or 4.83 bags. You cannot buy 0.83 of a bag, so the answer is five.

Here is the catch. The shortcut — treating 500 × 100 g as 50 kg of wax — also says five bags on the net figure, so it looks as if the fragrance "doesn't matter". It does: once the same tests and loss are applied, the shortcut needs 52,520 g, which is 6 bags. Splitting the candle first is what keeps this order at five. What four, five and six bags will cover

Corporate orders move. A client who asked for 500 may confirm 434 or 750. This table converts order size to bag count with the same five tests and 4% loss, so you can quote a bag count before the final number arrives.

Four bags stretch to 413 candles; the fifth bag covers everything from 414 to 517. So the 500-candle order sits comfortably inside five bags, with 1,681.6 g spare — enough for about 17 more candles if the client adds a few at the last minute. If the order grows by 20% or more, whether to buy for a possible 20% increase now covers the timing decision.

Is the 10 kg bag the right bag?

Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 is listed at ₹260.00 for 500 g, ₹507.40 for 1 kg, ₹2,537.00 for 5 kg and ₹5,074.00 for 10 kg (CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026). From 1 kg upward that is ₹507.40 a kilo at every size. So five 10 kg bags, ten 5 kg bags and four 10 kg + two 5 kg all cost exactly ₹25,370.00 for 50 kg. The only cheaper option is to buy less wax: 4 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg + 3 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g covers the need for ₹24,615.20, ₹754.80 less, in 9 bags.

The fragrance side: 4.2 kg of Bergamot Amber

Bergamot Amber Fragrance Oil suits a corporate gift — citrus opening, warm base, not polarising. It is ₹5.60 a gram at 50 g and 100 g and ₹5.44 at 500 g and 1 kg, a 2.9% step. You need 4,201.6 g: 8 g per candle across 505 candles, plus 4%.

At 8 g per candle, the oil in one gift candle costs ₹43.50 at the kilo rate. CSI 464 is rated up to 10% fragrance by the wax maker, so 8% leaves two points of headroom; if the client wants a stronger candle, burn-test 9–10% before quoting, and see working at CSI 464's 10% ceiling. CSI's own guidance for CSI 464 gives a melt/pour range of 80–90°C — confirm it on the product page.

The priced corporate order

A 100 g corporate gift usually wants a lid. CSI's Yankee Glass Jar 130 ml with clear cap at ₹47.20 each fits: 130 ml is the brim volume, and on a labelled approximation of 0.86–0.90 g of soy wax per ml the brim holds roughly 112–117 g, so 100 g leaves headspace. The fill weight is not published — weigh a test pour before ordering 515 jars (505 poured + 10 spare, a labelled breakage allowance). Wicks: 505 + 15 spare, bought as a 500-pack and a 20-pack of Thin C1; wick size per diameter is not published, so the five test candles confirm it.

One candle costs ₹143.28 in materials at list rates (₹46.68 of CSI 464, ₹43.50 of Bergamot Amber, ₹5.90 wick, ₹47.20 jar). The order works out at ₹151.79 per gift candle with tests, loss, spare jars, spare wicks and the spare wax. Quote against the order figure, then add labour, gift packaging, branding, freight and GST — none of which are included here. Does the load change the bag count?

On this order, no: from 6% to 10% the wax stays between about 47.3 and 49.4 kg, so five bags cover every case. What moves is the oil — about a kilo for each two points of load. For CSI 464, stay at or below the stated 10% maximum. 5,000 × 100 g with 5% safety stock takes this candle size to a much larger corporate order, and 1,000 × 100 g sits in between.
