I Want to Buy Enough Wax for Both Jar Candles and Mould Candles — How Should I Calculate Quantities Separately When the Two Products Use Different Waxes?
शेयर करना
What does the jar line need? 300 Golden Aluminium Tins at the published 85 g fill, 8% load, 5 test tins and 3% loss: 2,136.22 g of oil and 24,566.53 g of Luxury Soy Wax Chunks (2 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg, ₹14,993.00).
And the mould line? 200 pillars at an illustrative 250 g, 5 g trim, 2% failed releases, 3 tests, 3% loss, 6% labelled test load: 3,277.87 g of oil and 51,353.33 g of Soy Pillar Wax (5 × 10 kg + 1 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g, ₹30,900.00).
What can be combined? The fragrance oil, if both lines use the same scent. Here Lavender is 5,414.09 g in one order (5 × 1 kg + 4 × 100 g + 1 × 15 g, ₹28,370.02) instead of two (₹28,475.04). The wicks cannot be combined, because each line uses a different wick type.
Why the two waxes never share a figure
Container waxes such as Luxury Soy Wax Chunks and CSI 464 are made to stay in a jar. They are soft enough to hold to the glass or tin and to melt to the edge. A pillar wax is made to leave a mould. It is formulated to shrink away from the silicone, stand on its own and hold its shape. In general practice, a container wax in a pillar mould is hard to release and soft on the shelf, and a pillar wax in a jar tends to pull away from the sides. So the two lines do not share a wax. It follows that they cannot share a wax figure, a wax order or a leftover bag.
They also differ in everything else the calculator uses. The load: Luxury Soy Wax Chunks are rated up to 13%, while CSI publishes no ceiling for Soy Pillar Wax, so the pillars run at a more cautious labelled test load. The allowances: a tin has no release to fail and nothing to trim, while a pillar has both. The fill: the tin's 85 g is published, while the pillar's weight must be weighed. And the wick: tabbed container wicks for tins, braided wick threaded through the mould for pillars. Two products, two sets of numbers.
| Input | Jar line (Golden Tin) | Mould line (pillar) |
|---|---|---|
| Wax | Luxury Soy Wax Chunks (container) | Soy Pillar Wax (pillar and designer) |
| Published fragrance ceiling | Up to 13% (wax maker's stated maximum) | None published — check the product page |
| Load used here | 8% | 6% (labelled test load) |
| Fill per unit | 85 g — published for this tin | 250 g — illustrative, must be weighed |
| Trim per unit | None | 5 g (labelled) |
| Failed releases | None — nothing to release | 2% (labelled) |
| Test units | 5 tins | 3 pours |
| Pour loss | 3% (labelled) | 3% (labelled) |
| Wick | Tabbed container wick (Eco Thin C1) | Braided wick, threaded |
Line 1: the jar candles
The Golden Aluminium Tin is listed with an 85 g fill weight. It is the only CSI container in this series with a published fill. We treat 85 g as the finished candle weight. Confirm it with one weighed pour in your wax, because fill line and wax can shift it by a gram or two. Tins do not fail on release and are not trimmed, so the allowances are just tests and pour loss:
| Step | Units | Scented weight | Oil (8%) | Wax (92%) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Net | 300 | 25,500 g | 2,040 g | 23,460 g |
| + 5 test tins | 305 | 25,925 g | 2,074 g | 23,851 g |
| + 3% pour loss | — | 26,702.75 g | 2,136.22 g | 24,566.53 g |
| Rounded | — | — | pooled below | 2 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg Chunks · ₹14,993.00 |
At 8%, Luxury Soy Wax Chunks have five points of headroom below their stated 13% maximum. If you would rather pour CSI 464 (rated up to 10%), the same 24,566.53 g is 2 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg for ₹12,685.00, cheaper by ₹2,308.00. Test it first. The wick for an 85 g tin is not published, so burn-test an Eco Candle Wicks Thin C1 first. Line 2: the mould candles
The pillars are poured in CSI's Pillar Candle Mould, whose fill is not published. The 250 g finished weight here is illustrative. My Silicone Mould Holds 240 g of Water — How Do I Estimate How Much Pillar Wax Is Required for Each Finished Candle? shows how to get yours from a water fill and one weighed candle. The pillar line carries the allowances a tin does not need: trimming on every pour, failed releases, and test pours counted as whole candles.
| Step | Pours | Scented weight | Oil (6%) | Wax (94%) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Net (finished) | 200 | 50,000 g | 3,000 g | 47,000 g |
| + failed releases (200 ÷ 0.98 → 205) + 3 tests | 208 | 52,000 g | 3,120 g | 48,880 g |
| + 5 g trim per pour | 208 | 53,040 g | 3,182.40 g | 49,857.60 g |
| + 3% pour loss | — | 54,631.20 g | 3,277.87 g | 51,353.33 g |
| Rounded | — | — | pooled below | 5 × 10 kg + 1 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g Soy Pillar Wax · ₹30,900.00 |
The 6% load is a labelled test value. No fragrance ceiling for Soy Pillar Wax is published in our data, so check the product page or ask on WhatsApp for the wax maker's stated maximum, and test before scaling. A freestanding pillar has no jar to hide seeping oil. The trim and failure figures are working assumptions. I Need 1,000 Fragranced Mould Candles — How Do I Calculate Wax and Fragrance When Each Candle Loses a Small Amount During Trimming and Finishing? explains why the oil must be planned on the poured weight, trim included, and I Have 25 Kg of Pillar Wax — How Many 150 g Mould Candles Can I Realistically Produce After Accounting for Spills and Trimming Waste? runs this line in reverse from a fixed wax quantity.
What to pool, what to keep apart
With both lines calculated, sort the materials. Oil of the same scent pools, even at different loads, because a gram of Lavender is a gram of Lavender whichever wax it ends up in. 2,136.22 g + 3,277.87 g = 5,414.09 g, rounded once. Wax never pools across products. Wicks pool only within a type and size, and these two lines use different types. Here is what pooling the oil saves, and what the three common combining mistakes do:
| Oil order | Need | Packs | Bought | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jar line alone | 2,136.22 g | 2 × 1 kg + 1 × 100 g + 1 × 50 g | 2,150 g | ₹11,252.00 |
| Mould line alone | 3,277.87 g | 3 × 1 kg + 2 × 100 g + 1 × 50 g + 2 × 15 g | 3,280 g | ₹17,223.04 |
| Two separate orders | 5,414.09 g | — | 5,430 g | ₹28,475.04 |
| One pooled order | 5,414.09 g | 5 × 1 kg + 4 × 100 g + 1 × 15 g | 5,415 g | ₹28,370.02 |
| Mistake | What it produces | Consequence |
|---|---|---|
| Add the two waxes into one figure | 75,919.86 g of "wax" | Buy it all as Chunks (₹45,587.00) and the pillars are in a container wax. Buy it all as pillar wax (₹45,600.00) and the tins are in a pillar wax. Either way one line is in the wrong wax. |
| Apply one load to both lines | 8% everywhere: 6,506.72 g oil | The pillars run at 8% in a wax with no published ceiling, 1,092.62 g more oil than planned. That is untested and may seep. |
| Finished weight × count, one pot | 300 × 85 g + 200 × 250 g = 75,500 g | No trim, no failures, no tests, no loss, and no split between waxes. It is short on both lines, and you find out on the last day. |

Wick sizes are not published for the tin or the pillar, so burn-test both. The 12 cm of braided wick per pour is a labelled working length. The Pillar Candle Mould (₹942.82) is not in the list. The number you need depends on your deadline. I'm Producing Several Different Mould Candle Designs — How Do I Calculate the Combined Wax Requirement When Every Mould Has a Different Fill Weight? shows the cycle maths. Labels, lids, boxes and freight are extra. The Golden Aluminium Tin is a container only, so check its product page for lid details.
The wick side of a mixed range is covered in I Need 1,000 Candles and Each Uses One Wick — Should I Order Exactly 1,000 Wicks or Keep Additional Pieces for Testing, Defects and Production Mistakes?: how many spares to keep per wick type. If the range also includes wax melts in the same scent, their oil pools with the rest, and I Need 500 × 75 g Wax Melt Packs at 10% Fragrance — How Much Fragrance Oil Should I Buy Including Production Wastage? shows the melt-side allowance stack.
CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. We sell both waxes on this page, and the advice is still to buy exactly what each line needs, in the right wax. The page is also clear that pooling oil saves a little rounding, not a discount.
Wax, oil, tin, wick and wick-roll prices are CSI live pricing pulled on 24–25 September 2026. Out-of-stock sizes are marked, never offered. The tin's 85 g fill is its published figure. The pillar's 250 g weight is illustrative. Every gram and rupee figure is arithmetic shown to two decimals.
The 5 test tins, 3 test pours, 3% pour loss, 5 g trim, 2% failed releases, 12 cm of wick and the 6% pillar load are labelled working assumptions. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks are rated up to 13% (the wax maker's stated maximum, not a regulatory limit). No ceiling for Soy Pillar Wax is published in our data.
