50 Sandalwood Candles · Real Consumption
Fifty 250 g candles at 8% hold exactly 1 kg of sandalwood oil and 11.5 kg of wax. Tests, rejects and the jug take the run's consumption to 1,136 g and 13.07 kg — and Sandalwood's 500 g / 1 kg packs take the purchase to 1.5 kg.
1,136 g
of Sandalwood the run actually consumes at 8% · 1,000 g goes into the candles · CSI live pricing, October 2026
Quick answers — read this first
How much oil goes into the candles? 1,000 g — 20 g in each 250 g candle at 8%.

How much does the run consume? 1,136.5 g of oil and 13.07 kg of wax, with 3 test candles, 3% rejects and 4% pour loss.

What do I buy? Sandalwood is in stock only as 500 g and 1 kg: buy 1 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g (₹7,540.20), 364 g left. Wax: 1 × 10 kg + 3 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g of CSI 464.

Should I lower the load to fit 1 kg? No — reduce the count, not the formula. One kilo supports about 44 candles with these allowances.
The short answer
Answer: Into candles: 1,000 g oil, 11,500 g wax. Consumed: 1,136 g and 13,070 g. Bought: 1 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g Sandalwood and 1 × 10 kg + 3 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g CSI 464.
Why: A 250 g candle at 8% is 230 g wax + 20 g oil. Tests, rejects and pour loss are real consumption; pack rounding is stock you carry forward.
Method: Formula → + tests → ÷ (1 − rejects) → × (1 + pour loss) = consumption → round to in-stock packs = purchase → measure your own loss and rejects.

It is stock for the next run, not waste — but it is cash on the shelf until you pour it.
Every gram of oil and wax you buy, split by where it ends up: inside saleable candles, in test candles, in remade rejects, in the jug, or still unopened. Segments are computed from the labelled allowances on this page; the unopened sandalwood is stock for the next run.
Straight answer
I want to make 50 × 250 g sandalwood candles — how much wax and fragrance oil will I actually consume at 8% load?
The candles contain 1,000 g of oil and 11,500 g of wax; the run consumes about 1,136 g of oil and 13.07 kg of wax. At 8% each 250 g candle is 20 g of oil and 230 g of wax. Consumption adds three test candles, 3% rejects that are remade and 4% left in the jug — labelled working figures you can replace with your own measurements. Buying is a third number: Sandalwood Fragrance Oil is in stock only in 500 g and 1 kg on the 4 October 2026 re-check, so the cheapest cover is 1 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g for ₹7,540.20, leaving 363.5 g — about 18 candles' worth for the next run. Buy the 500 g first and pour your test candles from it. Wax: 1 × 10 kg + 3 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g of Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 (₹6,856.20), whose page states up to 10% fragrance. CSI order with wicks and stickers: ₹15,162.80, jars your own.
One line: 1,000 g in the candles, about 1,136 g consumed, 1.5 kg bought — keep the formula and carry the leftover.
50 × 250 g Sandalwood at 8% puts exactly 1,000 g of oil and 11.5 kg of wax into the candles. The run consumes 1,136.5 g of oil and 13.07 kg of wax once tests, rejects and pour loss are counted. Sandalwood Fragrance Oil is in stock only in 500 g and 1 kg on the 4 October re-check, so you buy 1 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g (₹7,540.20) and keep 363.5 g for the next run. What the run consumes, and what it leaves

Three different numbers answer "how much will I use": what goes into the candles, what the run consumes, and what you have to buy.

A 250 g candle at 8% is 20 g of sandalwood and 230 g of wax. Fifty of them hold 1,000 g of oil and 11,500 g of wax — the quantity that leaves your workshop inside saleable candles. But a run always consumes more than it ships: three test candles to confirm the wick in your jar, a few rejects that are melted out and remade, and the film of wax and oil left in the jug. Those are real consumption, not waste you could have avoided. Then pack rounding adds a third figure: what you have to buy, which for this oil is a long way above what you consume.

50 × 250 g · 8% · 3 test candles · 3% rejects · 4% pour loss · labelled working assumptions
Into candles, consumed by the run, bought
Sandalwood oil CSI 464 wax What it means
Into 50 saleable candles 1,000 g 11,500 g The formula quantity — what customers receive
+ 3 test candles 60 g 690 g Consumed confirming the wick and fill
+ remade rejects (3%) 32.8 g 377.0 g Consumed by candles that failed inspection
+ left in the jug (4%) 43.7 g 502.7 g Consumed by the process
= consumed by the run 1,136.5 g 13,069.7 g The figure to plan stock around
+ unopened leftover 363.5 g 430.3 g Pack rounding — carried to the next run
= bought 1,500 g 13,500 g 1 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g · 1 × 10 kg + 3 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g
Cost ₹7,540.20 ₹6,856.20 Oil leftover worth ₹1,827.27

So the honest answer to the title is: at 8%, fifty 250 g candles contain 1 kg of sandalwood oil and 11.5 kg of wax, and the run consumes about 1,136 g and 13.07 kg. What you buy is larger again because of how the oil is sold right now. The materials actually consumed cost ₹12,350.59 at the rates paid; the unopened leftovers are worth ₹2,045.81, almost all of it sandalwood.

Measure consumption once, then trust your own figure
Pour loss and reject rate are the two allowances you can measure. Weigh the jug and stirrer empty, weigh the oil and wax going in, weigh every candle coming out, and weigh the jug again. The difference is your real pour loss for this candle size. Do it on this run and the next order uses your number, not 4%.

Sandalwood stock: only 500 g and 1 kg

The run needs about 1.14 kg. The shelf sells 500 g and 1 kg. The gap is a decision, not a rounding error.

On the 4 October 2026 re-check, Sandalwood Fragrance Oil is out of stock in 15 g, 50 g and 100 g. The only buyable sizes are 500 g at ₹2,513.40 and 1 kg at ₹5,026.80 — both ₹5.03 a gram, so there is no per-gram saving in the bigger bottle either. That is a stock-out on those sizes, not a discontinuation; check the listing before you order, because small sizes may return.

Sandalwood Fragrance Oil — what can be bought today
Size Price Per gram Status Candles at 20 g
15 g ₹93.22 ₹6.21 Out of stock —
50 g ₹271.40 ₹5.43 Out of stock —

500 g ₹2,513.40 ₹5.03 In stock 25
1 kg ₹5,026.80 ₹5.03 In stock 50

This changes the order in two ways. First, the run's 1,136.5 g cannot be bought in a near fit: 1 kg is short, so the cheapest cover is a 1 kg plus a 500 g bottle, 1,500 g for ₹7,540.20, leaving 363.5 g — about 18.2 candles' worth. Second, there is no small bottle to test from: your three test candles come out of the first 500 g. That is fine, as long as you buy the 500 g first, test, and then buy the 1 kg — the total is the same and you have not committed ₹5,026.80 before the wick is confirmed.

Same allowance logic · how many 250 g candles each oil quantity supports at 8%
Fitting the run to the bottles you can buy
Option Oil available Candles it supports (after 3 tests, 3% rejects, 4% loss) Comment
1 × 1 kg 1,000 g 43.6 Short of 50 — do not trim the formula to fit
1 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g 1,500 g 67.0 Covers 50, leaves ≈ 18.2 candles' worth
No tests, 2% loss 1,051.5 g 50 (needs 1,051.5 g) Still over 1 kg
No tests, no rejects, no loss 1,000.0 g 50 exactly Only on paper — no run achieves it
The temptation: drop the load to 7.5% so the run fits a single 1 kg bottle. That changes the candle you tested and the candle you sell, to suit a pack size. Fix: keep the formula and plan the leftover. Either buy 1.5 kg and pour a second run of about 16 candles from what remains (at the same allowances), or reduce the count, not the load, if 1 kg is all the budget allows — 1 kg supports about 44 candles here.

If you need a sandalwood-type candle and cannot carry 1.5 kg, CSI lists other woody oils with different stock: Sacred Sandal Ember (only 500 g in stock, ₹3,999.00) and Santal Noir (all sizes in stock, from ₹166.00 for 15 g; this run would need 1 × 1 kg + 1 × 100 g + 3 × 15 g at ₹10,537.00). They are different fragrances, not substitutes — CSI does not call any oil equivalent to another — so a switch means new test candles. The meditation sandalwood post starts from the formulation stage and is the place to compare them.

The wax line in CSI 464

The wax is Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464: CSI's page states up to 10% fragrance, an 80–90°C melt/pour working range and a 60-month shelf life cool and dry. At 8% the 250 g candle carries 20 g of oil; the ceiling would allow 25 g. CSI 464 is priced flat at ₹507.40 a kilo from 1 kg to 10 kg (the 500 g is ₹520.00 a kilo), so 1 × 10 kg + 3 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g is the cheapest cover for 13,069.7 g — ₹6,856.20, with 430 g left in the last bag. A 10 kg plus a 5 kg bag would also work, but at ₹7,611.00 it costs ₹754.80 more for 1.5 kg you do not need.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. Do not buy a second kilo of sandalwood "to round it off": 2 kg would cost ₹10,053.60 and leave 864 g on the shelf. And if you only want fifty candles ever, 1.5 kg is a poor buy — ₹1,827.27 of oil sits unused. In that case ask on WhatsApp whether the smaller sizes are due back, or make fewer candles from one kilo. Selling you the bigger bottle is easy; telling you it leaves 364 g unused is the useful part.

Measuring what you actually consume

Every allowance on this page is a labelled working figure. After one run you can replace three of them with your own measurements, and every order after that becomes more accurate. The method takes a scale, a notebook and about ten minutes per batch.

1
Weigh the empty jug, stirrer and any funnelWrite the tare. Do it before every batch; residue from the last batch changes it.
2
Weigh wax and oil into the jugFor a batch of ten 250 g candles: 2,300 g of wax and 200 g of sandalwood, plus whatever allowance you are testing. Record both.
3
Weigh every candle after it setsJar tare known, so candle weight = filled jar − empty jar. The sum is what went into candles.
4
Weigh the jug againResidue = jug after − jug before. Pour loss % = (weighed in − into candles) ÷ weighed in. That is your real figure for 250 g pours.
5
Count rejects at inspectionReject rate = rejects ÷ candles poured. Over a few batches it settles; use the average, not the best batch.
6
Update the BOMReplace 4% and 3% with your own numbers in the stack. The order for the next fifty candles will come out closer to what the run consumes.

The CSI principle
Plan on consumption, buy in packs, carry the difference.
What the candles contain is the formula. What the run consumes is the formula plus process. What you buy is consumption rounded to real packs — and the remainder is stock for the next run.

The priced CSI order

Your jar is your own 250 g container — CSI publishes no jar with a known fill at this size — so it sits outside the CSI subtotal. The wick here is a single Eco Thick C2, confirmed by the three test candles; CSI publishes no wick-per-diameter chart, so if it fails, the wick-sample post shows how many alternatives to test. A 250 g candle in a wide jar may need two wicks; CSI lists no double-wick jar, but the wick and sticker maths simply doubles.

That is ₹303.26 of CSI materials per saleable candle, without the jar. Of that, the leftover sandalwood is worth ₹36.55 per candle — money that comes back when you pour the next run. The minimum-leftover post is the place to compare this against other oils when leftover matters more than price, and the 105-or-110-pieces post sizes the jar and wick count for a run measured in pieces.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. The Sandalwood sizes that would fit this run best are out of stock today, and this page says so, prices the leftover the 1.5 kg purchase creates, and suggests making fewer candles rather than buying more oil if you will not use the remainder.

Frequently asked questions

How much fragrance oil for 50 candles of 250 g at 8%?
1,000 g goes into the candles (20 g each). With three test candles, 3% rejects and 4% pour loss the run consumes about 1,136 g.
How much wax for 50 × 250 g candles?
11,500 g at 8% (230 g each); about 13.07 kg consumed with allowances — 1 × 10 kg + 3 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g of CSI 464.
How do I calculate actual wax consumption in candle making?
Weigh everything going into the jug, weigh every finished candle, and weigh the jug residue. Pour loss = (in − into candles) ÷ in. Track rejects separately.
Which Sandalwood Fragrance Oil sizes are in stock at CSI?
On the 4 October 2026 re-check, only 500 g (₹2,513.40) and 1 kg (₹5,026.80); 15 g, 50 g and 100 g were out of stock. Check the listing or ask on WhatsApp before ordering.
Can I lower the fragrance load to use less oil?
You can, but it is a different candle and needs new test candles. Changing the load to fit a pack size is the wrong reason — change the number of candles instead.
What do I do with leftover fragrance oil?
Plan it into the next run. Here 364 g of sandalwood is enough for about 16 more 250 g candles at the same allowances. Store it closed, cool and dark, and label the purchase date.

Non-price figures and assumptions: BOM convention used on every page in this series: load is a share of the finished candle (oil = W × L; wax = W × (1 − L)). Allowances are applied in one order — whole test candles, then a reject allowance (÷ (1 − reject rate)) on wax, oil, wicks and stickers, then pour loss on wax and oil only, then breakage on glass only, then rounding up to listed in-stock CSI packs. A rejected candle is assumed to be remade with new wax, oil, wick and sticker in a cleaned jar; a jar that cannot be reused counts as breakage. Working figures on this page: 8% load (the title's), 3 test candles, 3% rejects, 4% pour loss; jars are the reader's own (2% breakage shown only as an example count). Sacred Sandal Ember and Santal Noir are named as different fragrances with different stock, not equivalents. What CSI's product pages state (quoted, not CSI test results): Luxury Soy Wax Chunks — maximum fragrance load 13%, fragrance addition 80–90°C, pour 75–80°C in the spec table (the step list also shows 70–80°C), cure minimum 48 hours, ideally 1–2 weeks; Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 — fragrance load up to 10%, an 80–90°C melt/pour working range in the spec table, shelf life 60 months cool and dry; Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 — melting point 50–53°C, pour 58–60°C, fragrance load up to 13%, shelf life 60 months cool and dry; Natural Soy Pearl — no melt point, pour temperature, fragrance ceiling or shelf life published. CSI publishes no throw, burn-test, wick-size-per-diameter or jar-diameter data; only two fills are published (Golden Aluminium Tin 85 g, Heart Cutout Velvet Jar 50 g wax capacity). Material costs exclude labour, packaging, freight and GST. Diwali 2026 falls on Sunday 8 November.
