I Want to Produce 100 Candles but Have Not Finalised the Wick — How Many Sample Wick Sizes Should I Add to My Raw-Material Order Before Buying Production Quantities?
शेयर करना
Which sample packs? Thin C1 20-pack ₹118.00 (10-pack out of stock); Thick C2 10-pack ₹94.40; Cotton Braided 10 ₹120.00; Wooden 10 ₹590.00.
What does the ladder cost? ₹2,302.42 for the core two rungs, candles included; ₹2,961.42 with Cotton Braided; ₹4,344.42 with all four.
When do I buy 100+ wicks? After the full-life candle passes. 112 wicks are needed; subtract the sample leftovers — for Thin C1 a single 100-pack (₹590.00) then covers it.
How many sample wick sizes, and why not more
Every other line on a 100-candle order comes out of arithmetic: grams of wax and oil from the candle weight and load, jars and stickers from the candle count. The wick does not. Whether a wick gives a full, safe melt pool depends on the jar's internal diameter, the wax, the oil, the load and even the dye, and CSI does not publish a wick size per jar diameter for any of its wicks. Nobody can tell you the right size from a table for your jar. What you can do is buy a small number of candidates, pour identical candles on each, and let the burns decide.
The practical question is how many candidates. The answer on CSI's catalogue is short, because the listed options are few. The Eco Candle Wicks listing has two sizes, Thin C1 and Thick C2. Two other constructions are listed: Cotton Braided Wicks Ready Made and Performance Wooden Wicks. CSI publishes no construction details, tab heights or sizing equivalence between these lines, so none of them is "between" the two Eco sizes — each is simply another candidate. For most makers the right ladder is the two Eco sizes as the core, plus at most one other construction you would genuinely sell.
| Wick option | Smallest in-stock pack | Left over after 3 test candles | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Eco Candle Wicks Thin C1 | 20-pack · ₹118.00 | 17 | 10-pack out of stock — 20 is the smallest |
| Eco Candle Wicks Thick C2 | 10-pack · ₹94.40 | 7 | 10-pack in stock |
| Cotton Braided Wicks Ready Made | 10-pack · ₹120.00 | 7 | ₹12.00 a wick at every pack |
| Performance Wooden Wicks | 10-pack · ₹590.00 | 7 | a different wick format — check fitting on WhatsApp |
What each rung costs in candles, not just wicks
The wicks are the cheap part of a sample ladder. Each rung is three test candles — a labelled working practice: two burned in matched cycles and one burned to the end — and each candle is a full 200 g of Luxury Soy Wax Chunks and Orchard Pear at 8% (184 g wax + 16 g oil) in a White Matte Glass Jar. The wick must be tested in the candle you will sell: same oil, same load, same jar, same wax. A wick proven in an unscented candle tells you little about a scented one.
| Line | Core: Thin C1 + Thick C2 | + Cotton Braided | All four options |
|---|---|---|---|
| Test candles | 6 | 9 | 12 |
| Chunks wax | 1,159.2 g → 3 × 500 g · ₹897.00 | 1,738.8 g → 4 × 500 g · ₹1,196.00 | 2,318.4 g → 5 × 500 g · ₹1,495.00 |
| Orchard Pear oil | 100.8 g → 1 × 100 g + 1 × 15 g · ₹485.02 | 151.2 g → 1 × 100 g + 1 × 50 g + 1 × 15 g · ₹725.02 | 201.6 g → 2 × 100 g + 1 × 15 g · ₹865.02 |
| White Matte jars | 1 × pack of 10 · ₹708.00 | 1 × pack of 10 · ₹708.00 | 1 × pack of 10 + 1 × pack of 5 · ₹1,062.00 |
| Sample wick packs | ₹212.40 | ₹332.40 | ₹922.40 |
| Ladder CSI subtotal | ₹2,302.42 | ₹2,961.42 | ₹4,344.42 |
The wooden rung is the expensive one: ₹590.00 for ten wicks, about six times the Thick C2 sample. That is a reason to include it only if a wooden-wick candle is part of your range, not as a curiosity. Note that the oil line barely moves between ladders: Orchard Pear is ₹3.80/g at 100 g and ₹7.00/g at 15 g, so the cheapest oil combination often mixes 100 g bottles with a 15 g one. The leftover jars from the packs of 10 and 5 go straight into production.
The burn protocol for each rung
From winning rung to production wick order
The production stack for 100 saleable candles — 4 pre-production test candles, a 3% reject allowance and 4 spare wicks, all labelled assumptions — needs 112 wicks. Each sample pack leaves wicks behind after three test candles. Subtract them before rounding the production order:
| Winner | Left from sample | Still to buy | Cheapest in-stock packs | Price | Per production wick |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Eco Thin C1 | 17 | 95 | 1 × 100-pack | ₹590.00 | ₹5.27 |
| Eco Thick C2 | 7 | 105 | 1 × 100-pack + 1 × 10-pack | ₹1,038.40 | ₹9.27 |
| Cotton Braided | 7 | 105 | 1 × 100-pack + 1 × 10-pack | ₹1,320.00 | ₹11.79 |
| Wooden | 7 | 105 | 1 × 100-pack + 1 × 10-pack | ₹4,720.00 | ₹42.14 |
Two details hide in that table. Thin C1's 20-pack leaves 17 wicks, so the production need drops to 95 and a single 100-pack covers it. And for Cotton Braided and Wooden the rounding lands just above a pack boundary, so the sample leftovers decide whether you buy one extra 10-pack. Stickers are bought at one per wick whichever rung wins: 3 sheets of 40, ₹300.00.
| Item | Need | Buy | When | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Core ladder (wicks, wax, oil, jars) | 6 candles | as priced above | Now | ₹2,302.42 |
| Luxury Soy Wax Chunks | 20,865.6 g | 4 × 5 kg + 1 × 1 kg | Now — shared by every rung | ₹12,579.00 |
| White Matte Glass Jar | 111 less 4 carried over | 11 × pack of 10 | Now — after a weighed test pour | ₹7,788.00 |
| Wick stickers | 112 | 3 sheets of 40 | Now | ₹300.00 |
| Buy-now CSI subtotal | ₹22,969.42 | |||
| Orchard Pear | 1,814.4 g | 1 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g + 3 × 100 g + 1 × 50 g | After the ladder if the wick changes the load; otherwise now | ₹6,988.00 |
| Production wicks | 112 less leftovers | winner's row above | After the full-life candle passes | ₹590.00–₹4,720.00 |
| Wick clips or holders for wooden wicks (not published — ask CSI) | if Wooden wins | — | After | not priced |
| Labels (non-CSI, example ₹8.00 each) | 100 | your printer | Any time | not in CSI total |
The wax is listed at ₹12,558.00 as 42 × 500 g — the strictly cheapest combination, because 500 g bags of Chunks are ₹598.00 a kilo — but 4 × 5 kg + 1 × 1 kg at ₹12,579.00 is ₹21.00 more and far easier to handle. The oil can be bought now if your load is settled; if the ladder shows that no wick works at 8% and you need to change the load, it waits. The 6%-versus-8% page and the 10%-versus-8% page cover that decision.

This page owns the wick question on a 100-candle order. First 100 candles: bulk or small sorts the other materials; burn-test samples for 100 candles budgets the whole test programme; 100 lavender candles in 8 cm jars is a full worked list; and the 100-candle template has a line for every material. When the order grows, 1,000 single-wick candles and a large order before the wick passes carry the same logic to bigger quantities.
CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. We sell 100-packs of wicks and still recommend buying samples first. We publish no wick size chart, no burn data and no equivalence between our wick lines, so this page never assigns a wick to a jar — it gives you the test that does.

Non-price figures and assumptions: CSI convention: fragrance load is a share of the finished candle (oil = W × L; 200 g at 8% = 16 g oil + 184 g wax). The 200 g candle, three candles per rung, 3–4 hour burn cycles, the 7-day cure checkpoint, 5% pour loss, 4 pre-production tests, 3% rejects, 2% breakage and 4 spare wicks are labelled working assumptions. CSI publishes no wick size per jar diameter, no wick construction, tab or priming details, no sizing equivalence between wick lines and no numeric safety limits; ASTM F2417 is named only as a commonly cited standard. What CSI's product pages state (quoted, not CSI test results): Luxury Soy Wax Chunks — maximum fragrance load 13%, cure minimum 48 hours, ideally 1–2 weeks; Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 — fragrance load up to 10%; Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 — fragrance load up to 13%, melting point 50–53°C, pour 58–60°C; Natural Soy Pearl — no fragrance ceiling, temperatures or shelf life published. CSI publishes no jar internal diameters or fill weights (except the Golden Aluminium Tin's 85 g and the Heart Cutout Velvet Jar's 50 g), no wick-size-per-diameter chart, no throw, burn or cure data for any oil or wax, and no volume discount beyond the listed packs.
