I Want to Produce 100 Candles Using 200 g Jars — How Do I Determine the Actual Wax Weight per Candle After Accounting for Fragrance Percentage?
शेयर करना
For 100 candles? 18,400 g of wax and 1,600 g of oil at 8%; 20,319.7 g and 1,766.9 g with tests, rejects and pour loss.
What if I weigh the wax first? Oil = wax × L ÷ (1 − L). 184 g of wax at 8% needs 16 g of oil; adding 8% of the wax (14.72 g) gives only 7.41%.
Is my "200 g jar" a 200 g candle? Only if 200 g is the weighed candle. A 200 g water capacity holds about 172 g–180 g of wax to the brim.
The formula, and the table you will use every time
The wax weight in a candle depends on one thing besides the candle weight: how much of it is fragrance. CSI writes load as a share of the finished candle, so the two lines of the formula are oil = W × L and wax = W × (1 − L). For a 200 g candle that makes the wax 200 g minus the oil, and the oil 2 g for every percentage point of load. The table below is the whole answer for a 200 g candle at every load a soy container candle commonly uses, with the published ceiling of each CSI container wax beside it.
| Load | Oil per candle | Wax per candle | Wax for 100 | Oil for 100 | Within CSI 464 (10%)? | Within Chunks / CSI 468 (13%)? |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5% | 10 g | 190 g | 19,000 g | 1,000 g | Yes | Yes |
| 6% | 12 g | 188 g | 18,800 g | 1,200 g | Yes | Yes |
| 7% | 14 g | 186 g | 18,600 g | 1,400 g | Yes | Yes |
| 8% | 16 g | 184 g | 18,400 g | 1,600 g | Yes | Yes |
| 9% | 18 g | 182 g | 18,200 g | 1,800 g | Yes | Yes |
| 10% | 20 g | 180 g | 18,000 g | 2,000 g | Yes | Yes |
| 11% | 22 g | 178 g | 17,800 g | 2,200 g | No | Yes |
| 12% | 24 g | 176 g | 17,600 g | 2,400 g | No | Yes |
| 13% | 26 g | 174 g | 17,400 g | 2,600 g | No | Yes |
Read it across. At 8%, 184 g of wax and 16 g of oil per candle, 18,400 g and 1,600 g for a hundred. At 10%, 180 g and 20 g. At 13% — the highest any CSI wax page states — 174 g and 26 g. Natural Soy Pearl publishes no ceiling, so for that wax the table is a calculation, not a permission; ask CSI on WhatsApp for the wax maker's stated maximum. Above 13% is not shown because no CSI wax states a ceiling above it.
What does "200 g jar" mean?
Before you use the table, be sure the 200 g is the candle. Jars are often sold or described by a capacity — "200 ml" or "200 g" — that is measured with water to the brim. Solid soy wax is lighter than water; at a labelled approximate 0.86–0.90 g per ml, a jar that holds 200 g of water holds only about 172 g–180 g of candle to the brim, and less to a normal fill line. If your "200 g jar" is a water figure, your candle is not 200 g and the wax per candle is smaller than the table says.
| Reading | Candle weight W | Wax per candle at 8% | Wax for 100 at 8% | What to do |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| The jar holds a 200 g candle to your fill line | 200 g | 184 g | 18,400 g | Use the table as it stands |
| The jar holds 200 g of water to the brim | about 172 g–180 g at the brim, less to your line | about 158.2 g–165.6 g (at the brim) | 15.82 kg–16.56 kg | Weigh a test pour; set W from it |
When you start from the wax, not the candle
Some makers weigh the wax first and add oil to it. That is fine, as long as the oil is calculated to give the load you intend. Adding 8% of the wax on top of 184 g gives 14.72 g of oil in a 198.72 g candle — a true 7.41%. To hit a true 8% of the finished candle from a fixed wax weight, the oil is wax × L ÷ (1 − L): 184 g × 0.08 ÷ 0.92 = 16.00 g, which is the same 16 g the candle-first formula gives.
| Wax weighed | Target load | Oil = wax × L ÷ (1 − L) | Finished candle | Oil if you add L × wax instead | True load that gives |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 184 g | 8% | 16.00 g | 200.00 g | 14.72 g | 7.41% |
| 180 g | 10% | 20.00 g | 200.00 g | 18.00 g | 9.09% |
| 188 g | 6% | 12.00 g | 200.00 g | 11.28 g | 5.66% |
| 1,000 g | 8% | 86.96 g | 1,086.96 g | 80.00 g | 7.41% |
| 1,840 g | 8% | 160.00 g | 2,000.00 g | 147.20 g | 7.41% |
Both routes give the same candle if you use the right formula. The candle-first route is easier to get right because it starts from the number on your label. The wax-first route is common in workshops that melt whole bags; if that is you, put the ÷ (1 − L) formula on the wall next to the melter. The 50-candle vanilla post compares these readings side by side.
Turning the wax per candle into an order for 100
With W = 200 g and an 8% working load, the per-candle BOM is 184 g of wax, 16 g of oil, one wick and one sticker; the jar is yours. The order adds three test candles, a 3% reject allowance on wax, oil, wicks and stickers, and 4% pour loss on wax and oil — labelled working assumptions — then rounds to in-stock CSI packs.
| Line | Per candle | × 100 | With allowances | Packs | Price |

| 10% | 180 g | 19,877.9 g | 2 × 10 kg | ₹12,740.00 | 2,208.7 g | ₹10,788.00 |
Japanese Cherry Blossom is bought as 1 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g + 2 × 100 g + 1 × 50 g + 2 × 15 g: its per-gram price is ₹6.93 at 15 g, ₹5.40 at 50 g, ₹5.00 at 100 g and 500 g, and ₹4.84 at 1 kg, so one kilo carries the order and smaller bottles close the gap. CSI publishes no throw data or IFRA percentage for it here — check the product page or ask for the IFRA certificate on WhatsApp. The wick is the series' default Eco Thin C1; CSI publishes no wick-per-diameter chart, so the three test candles confirm it in your jar.
| Wax | Published ceiling | Highest load in the table it allows | Packs | Price |

| Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 | 13% | 13% | 2 × 10 kg + 1 × 500 g | ₹13,065.00 |

Weighing it out, batch by batch
Few workshops melt 20 kg at once. The per-candle figure scales to any batch size; the only allowance that belongs inside a batch is the jug's pour loss, and it scales the whole mix, not the oil alone. The table gives batch weights at 8% for the batch sizes most small workshops use.
| Candles in the batch | Mix to melt | Wax | Oil | Pour |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5 | 1,040.0 g | 956.8 g | 83.2 g | 5 × 200 g |
| 10 | 2,080.0 g | 1,913.6 g | 166.4 g | 10 × 200 g |
| 15 | 3,120.0 g | 2,870.4 g | 249.6 g | 15 × 200 g |
| 20 | 4,160.0 g | 3,827.2 g | 332.8 g | 20 × 200 g |
| 25 | 5,200.0 g | 4,784.0 g | 416.0 g | 25 × 200 g |
If you change the load, recompute the wax and oil columns; never add oil to a batch already weighed for 8% "to make it stronger" — that is a different candle with a different wax per candle, and it needs its own test. 6% against 8% and 10% against 8% price the whole run at those loads; the oud post covers the overfill errors that creep in at 10%.

The 100-candle Lavender hub applies this formula to a full shopping list. The 300 g luxury post does the same for a heavier candle. If your hundred candles are split across fragrances, two fragrances in one run and 25 each of four fragrances keep one wax line and separate oil lines. And the complete 100-candle plan adds dye and testing materials.
CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. This page prices the order in the wax whose page allows the whole load table, and tells you plainly that two cheaper CSI waxes cover the same candles if your load is lower.

Non-price figures and assumptions: BOM convention used on every page in this series: load is a share of the finished candle (oil = W × L; wax = W × (1 − L)). Allowances are applied in one order — whole test candles, then a reject allowance (÷ (1 − reject rate)) on wax, oil, wicks and stickers, then pour loss on wax and oil only, then breakage on glass only, then rounding up to listed in-stock CSI packs. A rejected candle is assumed to be remade with new wax, oil, wick and sticker in a cleaned jar; a jar that cannot be reused counts as breakage. Working figures on this page: 8% load (the title gives none; 5–13% tabulated), 3 test candles, 3% rejects, 4% pour loss (also inside the batch sheet), 2% breakage (count only — jars are the reader's). Fixed-wax formula: oil = wax × L ÷ (1 − L). Volume is not weight: a jar's ml figure is its brim volume. Solid soy wax is lighter than water; ~0.86–0.90 g per ml is a labelled approximate working range that varies by wax, temperature and fill line, never a CSI specification. What CSI's product pages state (quoted, not CSI test results): Luxury Soy Wax Chunks — maximum fragrance load 13%, fragrance addition 80–90°C, pour 75–80°C in the spec table (the step list also shows 70–80°C), cure minimum 48 hours, ideally 1–2 weeks; Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 — fragrance load up to 10%, an 80–90°C melt/pour working range in the spec table, shelf life 60 months cool and dry; Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 — melting point 50–53°C, pour 58–60°C, fragrance load up to 13%, shelf life 60 months cool and dry; Natural Soy Pearl — no melt point, pour temperature, fragrance ceiling or shelf life published. CSI publishes no throw, burn-test, wick-size-per-diameter or jar-diameter data; only two fills are published (Golden Aluminium Tin 85 g, Heart Cutout Velvet Jar 50 g wax capacity). Material costs exclude labour, packaging, freight and GST. Diwali 2026 falls on Sunday 8 November.
