Quick answers — read this first
Which component should I analyse first? The rate you pay for the oil you already use. On Woody Oud, moving from the 50 gm pack to the 100 gm pack takes the fragrance line on one candle from ₹86.85 to ₹72.50 — ₹14.35 for the same oil, the same 16.00 g and the same 8% load.

Can I reach ₹20.00 without touching the fragrance or the jar? Not quite. Consolidating the inbound parcel is ₹4.40, bringing an assumed 3% wastage to nil is ₹5.38 and the wax pack step is ₹2.52 — ₹12.30 in all, which leaves you ₹7.70 short. The oil pack rate or the vessel has to carry the rest.

What is a bigger wick pack worth? ₹0.00. Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) is ₹5.90 each in the 20, 50, 100, 500 and 1,000-wick packs alike, and Thick (C2) is ₹9.44 each in every pack. The same is true of the White Matte Glass Jar at ₹70.80 a piece in both its packs. CSI publishes no quantity ladder on either.

What is the biggest saving on the sheet? The vessel, at ₹41.30 — from the White Matte Glass Jar at ₹70.80 to the 200 ml Salsa Glass Jar at ₹29.50 in its 50-piece pack. Both listings publish 200 ml and neither publishes a wax fill weight, so pour one of each and weigh it before you count the saving.
The short answer
Start with the oil rate, not the oil: The constraint protects the fragrance and the grams of it, not the price per gram. On Woody Oud the 50 gm to 100 gm step is worth ₹14.35 a candle and costs nothing.
Two levers are worth ₹0.00: A bigger wick pack and a bigger pack of the jar you already use. Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) is ₹5.90 each at every pack size, and the White Matte Glass Jar is ₹70.80 at both of its.
The quiet levers total ₹12.30: The inbound parcel ₹4.40, an assumed 3% of wastage ₹5.38 and the wax pack step ₹2.52 — real, but ₹7.70 short of ₹20.00 on their own.

What it shows: every line on one 200 g candle that can move, drawn in rupees per candle against your ₹20.00 target, on live CSI pricing in September 2026. Black bars leave the fragrance specification exactly as it is; the pale bar is the wax grade, which the constraint puts out of reach until a burn test brings it back; the two hairlines are the levers whose rate does not move at all. Deliberately left out: labels, boxes, outbound courier, gateway fees, electricity and your own hours, none of which CSI sells and none of which this page will guess at.
Straight answer
Which cost components should I analyse first if I want ₹20.00 off a candle without weakening the fragrance?
Analyse them in this order, because it is the order of what each one costs you in something other than money. First, the rate you pay for the oil you already use. The constraint protects the fragrance and the 16.00 g of it, not the price per gram: on Woody Oud the 50 gm pack is ₹5.43 a gram and the 100 gm pack is ₹4.53, so the same candle drops ₹14.35 with nothing changed that a customer could detect. Above 100 gm the ladder is flat, so the 500 gm and 1 kg packs return ₹0.00 more. Second, the inbound parcel — a Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 5 kg pack and a Woody Oud 500 gm pack sent separately come to ₹740.00 against ₹630.00 together, which across the 25 candles that wax makes is ₹4.40 a candle. Third, wastage, where bringing an assumed 3% loss to nil returns ₹5.38 — an assumption, not measured data, and the only lever that improves the product while it saves. Fourth, the vessel, which is the biggest single number at ₹41.30 but changes how the candle looks and needs the fill re-measured, because CSI publishes millilitres rather than a wax fill weight. The wax pack step is ₹2.52, the wax grade is ₹21.68 and sits outside your constraint until a burn test brings it in, and the two levers most people pull first — a bigger wick pack and a bigger pack of the same jar — are worth ₹0.00 each, because those rates do not move. On live CSI materials this candle starts at ₹250.68; the quiet levers alone reach ₹12.30, so the oil rate or the vessel has to carry the last ₹7.70.
One line: The oil rate is worth ₹14.35, the vessel ₹41.30, the parcel ₹4.40 — and the wick pack ₹0.00.
₹20.00 a candle, with the fragrance untouched. The costed candle below is ₹250.68: Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 at ₹507.40 a kilogram, Woody Oud at ₹4.53 a gram, a White Matte Glass Jar at ₹70.80 and an Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) at ₹5.90. Two of the levers people reach for first are worth ₹0.00, and the biggest fragrance-neutral one is the rate you pay for the oil you are already using.

What "without reducing fragrance performance" actually rules out

The constraint is the whole question. Write it down before you touch a single line.

Most cost-reduction advice starts by cutting the fragrance, because the fragrance is usually the dearest gram in the candle. You have ruled that out, and that is a sound commercial decision: scent is the product. So the first job is to say precisely what the constraint forbids, because an unstated constraint is one you will break by accident at the third decimal place.

Three things are fixed. The oil itself — a different fragrance is a different product, however similar the description. The grams of it — this page holds the load at 8% of wax weight, so 200 g of wax carries 16.00 g of oil and 216.00 g goes in the jar. And the wax the oil sits in, at least until a burn test says otherwise, because hot throw is a property of the wax and the fragrance together, not of the fragrance alone. That third one is the constraint people forget, and it is the reason the wax grade appears on this page as a lever you may not take yet rather than one you may not consider.

State the fill reading too, because the rest of the arithmetic hangs on it: this page uses 200 g of wax plus 16.00 g of oil, not a 200 g finished candle. On the live CSI materials named above that comes to ₹250.68 — ₹101.48 of wax, ₹72.50 of fragrance, ₹70.80 of vessel and ₹5.90 of wick — and the target is therefore ₹230.68.

Priced above: Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 1 kg ₹507.40 (₹507.40/kg, stated maximum fragrance load 10% of total wax weight); Woody Oud 1 kg ₹4,531.20 (₹4.53/g, the page stating soy use at 6–10% of total wax weight and a cure of 48 to 72 hours); White Matte Glass Jar Pack of 10 ₹708.00 (₹70.80 each); Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) 500 for ₹2,950.00 (₹5.90 each, the same rate at the 20, 50, 100 and 1,000 packs). Live CSI pricing, September 2026, taxes included. The ₹20.00 target is your own figure from the question. Where a wax ceiling and an oil range differ the lower governs; here 10% and 6–10% both put 8% comfortably inside.
The CSI principle
Cut the rate, not the recipe.
Paying ₹14.35 less for the same 16.00 g of the same oil is a cost cut. Pouring less of it is a product change.

The ledger: every lever, in rupees, ranked

Eight lines. Two are worth nothing, one is worth double the target, and one you are not allowed to take.

Here is every line on this candle that can move, priced from the live ladders rather than estimated. Read the third column first: it says what each saving costs you in something other than money, which is the only ranking that matters when a constraint is in force. The order to analyse them in is the order of that column, not the order of the rupees.

Paying less for exactly the same fragrance

The one lever that touches the fragrance line and does not touch the fragrance.

This is the lever to analyse first, and it is the one most makers skip because it sits on the line they have decided not to touch. The constraint protects the oil and the grams of it. It does not protect the rate you pay for those grams. On Woody Oud the rate moves a great deal at the bottom of the ladder and not at all at the top, so the size of this lever depends entirely on which pack you buy today.

Woody Oud pack ladder · live CSI pricing, September 2026

Woody Oud 1 kg ₹4,531.20 ₹4.53/g ₹72.50 ₹0.00 — no change
Priced above: Woody Oud 15 gm ₹93.22, 50 gm ₹271.40, 100 gm ₹453.12, 500 gm ₹2,265.60, 1 kg ₹4,531.20, live CSI pricing September 2026, taxes included. The candle column is 16.00 g at each rate. Ladders differ from oil to oil on this store — read the one on the page you buy from rather than carrying this shape across.

So the honest shape of it: if you buy Woody Oud in 50 gm bottles, moving to the 100 gm pack is worth ₹14.35 a candle, which is most of your ₹20.00 on its own and costs you nothing a customer could detect. From 15 gm the same move is ₹26.94. Above 100 gm there is nothing left: the 100 gm, 500 gm and 1 kg packs are all ₹4.53 a gram, so buying the kilogram commits ₹4,078.08 more cash to one scent and returns ₹0.00 a candle.

One caution, because this is the sentence that costs people money. Ladder shapes are not a property of the store, they are a property of the listing. Some CSI oils are flat from the 50 gm pack upward, some carry their whole step between the smallest two packs, and on a few the largest pack is not the cheapest per gram. Open the page for the oil you actually use, divide each pack price by its grams, and write the five numbers down. That is a two-minute job that will tell you whether this lever is worth ₹14.35 or ₹0.00 for you.

THE PACK IS A CASH DECISION TOO
One kilogram of Woody Oud at ₹4,531.20 scents 62.5 candles at 16.00 g, and those candles need 12.5 kg of wax to go with them. If the scent is proven and moving, the commitment is fine. If it is new, the 100 gm pack at ₹453.12 buys the identical rate per gram, so there is no reason to go further up this particular ladder until the sales say so. Check pack availability on WhatsApp before planning a season around one bottle.
Trimming the load and calling it a cost saving. Dropping from 8% to 7% on this candle takes the fragrance line from ₹72.50 to ₹63.44 and saves ₹9.06 — close to half your target, and the single easiest number on the sheet to move. It is also the one thing you said you would not do. The Woody Oud page states soy use at 6–10% of total wax weight, so 7% is inside the published range and the candle will still smell of something; it will not be the candle your repeat customers bought. If you decide to take this saving, take it knowingly and burn-test it, rather than letting it arrive as a rounding on a spreadsheet.
The same candle, with the two fragrance-neutral levers taken. Woody Oud 100 gm ₹453.12 (₹4.53/g) · 200 ml Salsa Glass Jar 50 Pcs ₹1,475.00 (₹29.50 a jar) · Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 5 kg ₹2,537.00 (₹507.40/kg) · Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) ₹5.90 each. Same oil, same 16.00 g, same 8%.

The vessel and the parcel

The biggest number on the ledger, and the one nobody puts on a cost sheet at all.

The vessel is the largest single saving available to you: ₹41.30, more than twice the target, from moving the White Matte Glass Jar at ₹70.80 to the 200 ml Salsa Glass Jar at ₹29.50 in its 50-piece pack. Both listings publish 200 ml. Neither publishes a wax fill weight, and this page will not invent one, so the practical step before you take this saving is to pour one of each and weigh what actually goes in. If the second jar takes less wax, part of that ₹41.30 is a smaller candle rather than a cheaper one, and your customer will notice the difference before your spreadsheet does.

What you cannot do is get the saving from the pack size of the jar you already use. The White Matte Glass Jar is ₹70.80 a piece in its Pack of 5 and ₹70.80 a piece in its Pack of 10 — a step of ₹0.00. That is the normal pattern on CSI vessels, not the exception, so a plan that assumes a carton rate on the jar you like is a plan that needs checking before it is budgeted.

Then the parcel, which almost never appears on a cost-per-candle sheet and is worth more than the wax pack step. A Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 5 kg pack carries a stored packed weight of 6.0 kg and a Woody Oud 500 gm pack carries 0.8 kg. Ordered separately the two parcels come to ₹740.00; ordered together, at 6.8 kg, one parcel is ₹630.00 on Standard Shipping. That 5 kg of wax makes 25 candles at 200 g, so carried into the stack the two orders are ₹29.60 a candle and the one order is ₹25.20 — a difference of ₹4.40. Published flat bands, September 2026.

Inbound parcel · published bands, September 2026
One order or two, spread across the 25 candles the wax makes
How you order Weights Charge Per candle across 25
Wax and oil separately 6.0 kg and 0.8 kg ₹630.00 plus ₹110.00 = ₹740.00 ₹29.60
Wax and oil in one consignment 6.8 kg ₹630.00 ₹25.20
Difference — ₹110.00 ₹4.40
Priced above: the store's published flat weight bands as at September 2026, read against stored packed weights of 6.0 kg for the Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 5 kg pack and 0.8 kg for the Woody Oud 500 gm pack. The per-candle column divides by 25, the candles 5 kg of wax makes at 200 g each; the 500 gm of oil covers 31.25 candles at 16.00 g, so the wax is what binds. Rates are merchant-set flat bands and can change, and band edges do not always reward the larger consignment — check your own weights before assuming one big order is cheaper.
Leaving the inbound parcel off the cost sheet entirely. It is not a CSI product in the sense that a jar is, but it is a published, checkable figure and it belongs in your cost per candle. At ₹25.20 a candle on a consolidated order it is larger than the wax pack step, larger than an assumed 2% wastage, and larger than the entire wick line. Two reviews on the store say the charges are high, which is fair; the response is to put the number on the sheet and order less often, not to leave the line blank and be surprised by the bank balance.

The line you can cut without buying anything

Every gram that does not reach a jar is a gram you paid for at the full rate.

Wastage is the only lever here that costs nothing to pull and needs no supplier at all. It is also the one this page cannot put a real figure on for you: wax left in the jug, an abandoned pour, a jar wiped out and started again are all real and all specific to your bench. The percentages below are a stated assumption, not measured data. Measure your own once — weigh the wax and oil you start a batch with, weigh the candles you finish with — and the figure you get is worth more than any number in this table.

The mechanism is simple and slightly unforgiving. If a proportion of the scented wax never reaches a sellable jar, the cost per good candle is the scented-wax cost divided by one minus that proportion. On this candle the scented wax is ₹173.98 — ₹101.48 of wax plus ₹72.50 of fragrance — and the vessel and wick are unaffected, because a jar you did not fill is a jar you can still use.

Wastage · a stated assumption, not measured data
What a loss rate does to the scented wax in one good candle
Assumed loss of scented wax Scented wax per good candle Added per candle Materials per good candle
0% ₹173.98 ₹0.00 ₹250.68
2% ₹177.53 ₹3.55 ₹254.23
3% ₹179.36 ₹5.38 ₹256.06
5% ₹183.14 ₹9.16 ₹259.84
Priced above: the scented-wax figure of ₹173.98 is 200 g of Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 at ₹507.40/kg plus 16.00 g of Woody Oud at ₹4.53/g, live CSI pricing September 2026. The loss percentages are assumptions stated for illustration and are not CSI data or measurements of anyone's workshop; the vessel at ₹70.80 and the wick at ₹5.90 are held constant across the rows.

Read the third column as a lever. Going from an assumed 3% loss to nil returns ₹5.38 a candle, and from an assumed 5% loss to nil returns ₹9.16. Nothing on this page is cheaper to try. Warm the pouring jug, scrape it, pour the last of a batch into a tealight rather than the bin, and decant the oil bottle properly. Bench discipline is the one cost reduction that improves the product instead of trading against it.

Does it reach ₹20.00?

Yes, but not from the levers that change nothing at all.

Add up only the levers that leave both the fragrance and the vessel exactly as they are: the parcel at ₹4.40, an assumed 3% of wastage at ₹5.38, and the wax pack step at ₹2.52. That is ₹12.30, which is ₹7.70 short of your target. The two levers most people try first — a bigger wick pack and a bigger pack of the jar they already use — contribute ₹0.00 between them.

So something has to give, and you have three honest choices. If you currently buy Woody Oud in 50 gm bottles, move to the 100 gm pack: that is ₹14.35 on its own and the combination reaches ₹26.65, comfortably past ₹20.00, with the candle unchanged in every respect a customer can perceive. If you already buy at 100 gm or above, the vessel is the lever: ₹41.30 takes the candle to ₹209.38 in one move, at the cost of changing how the candle looks and re-measuring what it holds. And the wax grade at ₹21.68 sits there as the third option, outside the constraint until a burn test brings it inside.

1
1. Write the constraint at the top of the sheet"Same oil, same 16.00 g, same 8% of wax weight." Everything below it is negotiable and everything in it is not. State the fill reading in the same line — this page carries 200 g of wax plus 16.00 g of oil, 216.00 g poured — so that nobody later compares it against a 200 g finished candle.
2
2. Divide out the ladder on the oil you already buyPack price divided by grams, for every pack size on that one product page. If the rate falls, the gap times 16.00 g is your first saving and it costs nothing. On Woody Oud that is ₹14.35 from the 50 gm pack and ₹0.00 from the 100 gm pack upward.
3
3. Put the inbound parcel on the sheetTake the stored packed weight of each pack you order, read the published band, and divide by the candles that pack makes. Here that is ₹25.20 a candle consolidated against ₹29.60 split. Order wax and oil together and the difference of ₹4.40 is yours without touching the candle.
4
4. Measure your wastage before you assume itWeigh in, weigh out, over one honest batch. Then put your own percentage in the wastage row instead of the assumed 3% used here. If it comes back above 5%, the ₹9.16 sitting in that line is the cheapest ₹20.00 you will ever find, and it needs no supplier and no product change at all.
Changing the wax grade because the arithmetic is attractive. Moving to Eco Soy CSI 400 at ₹399.00 a kilogram saves ₹21.68 a candle, which clears your target on its own, and it is the change most likely to break the constraint you set. Throw depends on the wax as much as on the oil, the two grades pour at different temperatures, and CSI does not publish a fragrance-load maximum for Eco Soy CSI 400 — on that pairing the Woody Oud page's stated soy range of 6–10% would be the only published limit, so ask on WhatsApp before you formulate. Make the change as a test batch with a proper cure and a burn test, not as a line edit on a costing.
The cheapest twenty rupees is the one nobody can smell.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA sells the wax, the oil, the jars and the wicks on this page, and the page still tells you that two of the levers a supplier would normally be happy to sell you — a bigger wick pack and a bigger pack of the same jar — are worth ₹0.00 each, that the 500 gm and 1 kg packs of Woody Oud cost the same per gram as the 100 gm pack so there is no rate reason to buy up, and that the cheapest ₹20.00 available to most makers is wastage, which needs no supplier at all. It also says plainly that the wax grade saving of ₹21.68 should not be taken on a spreadsheet — a repoured batch costs more than the saving.

Every CSI price here is live stock in September 2026, taxes included, and the linked product pages are authoritative if anything changes. Fragrance load is a percentage of wax weight, as CSI product pages state it: this page carries 200 g of wax plus 16.00 g of oil at 8%, 216.00 g poured, and says so wherever it matters. The Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 page states a maximum of 10% of total wax weight and the Woody Oud page states soy use at 6–10%; where a wax ceiling and an oil range differ the lower governs. CSI does not publish a fragrance-load maximum for Eco Soy CSI 400 — ask on WhatsApp. The wastage percentages are stated assumptions and not measurements. Delivery figures are the store's published flat weight bands read against stored packed weights. No vessel on this page is said to hold a particular weight of wax, because CSI publishes millilitres rather than fill weights for these listings. Labels, boxes, outbound courier, gateway fees, electricity, rent and your own hours are not CSI products and carry no figure here.

Is buying a bigger pack of fragrance oil always cheaper per gram?
No, and this is the single most useful thing to check. On Woody Oud the rate falls from ₹6.21 a gram at 15 gm to ₹4.53 at 100 gm and then stops — the 500 gm and 1 kg packs are the same ₹4.53. Other CSI oils have differently shaped ladders, and on some the largest pack is not the cheapest per gram. Divide each pack price by its grams on the page you buy from.
Does a bigger wax pack lower my cost per candle?
Barely, on this grade. Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 is ₹520.00 a kilogram in the 500 g pack and ₹507.40 in the 1 kg, 5 kg and 10 kg packs, so the whole available step is ₹2.52 on a 200 g candle and going from 1 kg to 10 kg changes nothing. What a larger pack does change is the parcel: fewer orders means fewer delivery bands.
Should I switch to a cheaper wax to hit the ₹20.00?
It would clear the target on its own — Eco Soy CSI 400 at ₹399.00 a kilogram saves ₹21.68 a candle — but it is the change most likely to break your constraint, because hot throw is a property of the wax and the fragrance together. CSI does not publish a load maximum for that grade, so on a Woody Oud pairing the oil page's stated 6–10% soy range would be the only published limit. Treat it as a test batch with a full cure, not a cost edit.
How much is the inbound parcel really worth per candle?
On this example, ₹25.20 a candle consolidated against ₹29.60 split, a difference of ₹4.40. The Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 5 kg pack stores 6.0 kg packed and the Woody Oud 500 gm pack stores 0.8 kg, and 5 kg of wax makes 25 candles at 200 g. Bigger is not automatically better — band edges can go the other way, so check your own weights against the published bands, September 2026.
Can I cut ₹20.00 by using a cheaper wick?
No. The whole wick line is ₹5.90, which is less than a third of your target, and every alternative on the store costs more: Eco Candle Wicks Thick (C2) is ₹9.44 each and Performance Wooden Wicks are ₹41.30 each at the 100 pack. Wick choice is a burn-quality decision on this store, not a costing one.
What order should I make these changes in?
Rate changes before recipe changes, always. Take the oil pack step and the consolidated parcel first, because they cost you nothing and can be undone — that is ₹18.75 on the figures above. Measure wastage next, because it needs no supplier. Change the vessel only after pouring and weighing one, and change the wax grade only after a burn test with a full cure. The Woody Oud page states a cure of 48 to 72 hours; soy throw keeps developing well past that, and 14 to 21 days is standard practice before a container candle is judged.
