Change the release area first, because that is the one variable most makers never price and the one the customer actually experiences. Fragrance leaves a candle from the surface of the melt pool, and that surface is set by the vessel and the wick, not by the oil. Below: nine levers, each with its cost per candle, its cost per thousand, and the re-test it obliges you to run.

Quick answers — read this first
What should I change first? The wick, because it decides whether the pool you already have ever opens fully — one step from Eco Thin (C1) to Thick (C2) costs ₹3.54 a candle, ₹3,540 a thousand — and then the vessel, because pool area is proportional to the square of the diameter.

What is free? A full cure, adding fragrance inside the wax page's stated band, and stirring for two minutes. Free in materials — a 21-day cure instead of 7 days ties up about ₹1,27,656.85 more inventory at 1,000 candles a month, so "free" is not the same as "costless".

Does a wider candle always throw better? Per candle, yes; per gram, no. Release area per 100 g of candle falls from about 44 cm² in a 5.3 cm jar to 11 cm² in a 700 g apothecary. That is why two small candles beat one large one for filling a room — 56.5 cm² against 38.5 cm², for ₹28.46 more per pair.

What does the formula lever look like? Not more oil — different oil. Anchoring a top-heavy scent with a base-weighted one changes what survives a cool soy pool: a 70:30 Citrus Lemon and Sandalwood blend costs ₹55.85 per 200 g candle at 8% against ₹45.31 for the citrus alone.
The short answer
Release area is the lever, and it is geometric. Pool area goes with the square of the diameter, so a stated 7 cm jar releases from 38.5 cm² and a stated 6 cm jar from 28.3 cm² — 36% more surface for the same load. The oil in the jar is not the product; the oil in the air is.
Price each lever twice — materials and the re-test it forces. A wick change is ₹3.54 a candle plus a six-jar bracket at ₹1,641.30. A wax change is ₹6.83 a candle plus a full re-qualification, because the pour temperature and the wick both move with it.
Hold the load at the lower of the two published figures. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks state 8–13%; CSI 464 states up to 10%; many oil pages state up to 10% for soy. Working the other levers is only honest once the load is inside both numbers.

Bar length is the full melt-pool area calculated from each vessel's stated diameter — the surface fragrance evaporates from once the pool reaches the glass. Two numbers matter and they pull in opposite directions: total area rises steeply with diameter, while area per 100 g of candle falls, from about 44 cm² in a 5.3 cm votive to 11 cm² in a 700 g apothecary. That inversion is why a big candle can smell quieter than two small ones made from the same wax and the same oil.
Straight answer
I want much stronger hot throw and I am not willing to raise the fragrance load. What do I change?
Change the release area and then the incorporation, in that order, and price each change twice — once in materials and once in the re-test it forces. Fragrance leaves a candle from the surface of the melt pool, and that surface is geometry: a stated 6 cm jar gives a 28.3 cm² pool, a stated 7 cm jar 38.5 cm², and the stated 10 cm apothecary jar 78.5 cm². The wick is what decides whether you ever reach that number; stepping Eco Thin (C1) up to Thick (C2) costs ₹3.54 a candle and ₹3,540 a thousand, plus a six-jar bracket at ₹1,641.30 to prove it. Splitting one 200 g candle into two 100 g candles buys 56.5 cm² instead of 38.5 cm² — 47% more releasing surface for ₹28.46 of extra jar, wick and sticker. A coconut-soy swap to CSI 468 costs ₹6.83 on 184 g of wax but obliges a full re-qualification, because its page states a pour of 58–60°C against Chunks' 70–80°C and the wick moves with it. On the formula side the lever is structure, not quantity: anchoring a top-heavy oil with a base-weighted one — a 70:30 Citrus Lemon and Sandalwood blend at ₹55.85 per 200 g candle — changes what survives a cool pool. And the three free levers still apply: a full cure, fragrance added inside the wax page's stated band, and two minutes of stirring. The load itself stays where it belongs, at the lower of your wax page's and your oil page's published figures.
One line: pool area is release area — fix the wick, then the vessel, then the incorporation, and treat each change as a new candle that owes you a burn test.

Release area, and why nobody prices it

Load is measured in percent, which sounds like a dial. Release area is measured in square centimetres, which sounds like furniture. One of them is the thing customers smell.

Hot throw is evaporation from a liquid surface. The liquid surface is the melt pool, and once the pool has reached the glass its area is fixed by the vessel: area = π × (diameter ÷ 2)². Because the diameter is squared, small changes in a jar produce large changes in release. Going from a stated 6 cm jar to a stated 7 cm jar is a 17% wider candle and a 36% larger pool. Nothing about the oil changed.

The table below takes every CSI vessel whose page publishes a numeric diameter and works out both numbers that matter: the full pool area, and that area divided by the candle's stated fill so you can see release per 100 g of product. Note the caveat the pages themselves force: the 200 ml jars state a fill weight in millilitres, not grams, so the per-100 g column for those is calculated on an assumed 200 g fill and you should weigh a filled jar before you rely on it.

Worked out above: pool area = π × (stated diameter ÷ 2)² — 5.3 cm → 22.06 cm²; 6 cm → 28.27 cm²; 6.5 cm → 33.18 cm²; 7 cm → 38.48 cm²; 10 cm → 78.54 cm². These are the areas a full pool can reach, not burn results — whether your candle gets there is the wick's job, and the wick pages do not publish a diameter recommendation. Both apothecary sizes state the same dimensions on one page, so the 700 g figure uses those dimensions with the larger fill. The Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid and the other 150 g jars state "Safe for hot pour up to 85°C" — check that against your wax's stated pour temperature before you change vessel.
The inversion, stated plainly
A wider candle throws more; a heavier candle throws less per rupee of oil. A 700 g apothecary candle at 8% carries 56 g of oil and releases it through 78.5 cm²; four 150 g candles carry 48 g between them — less oil — and release it through 154 cm² combined. If your problem is filling a large room, the answer is rarely a bigger candle — it is more pools. That is a merchandising decision as much as a formulation one, and it is why multi-candle sets exist.

Nine levers, priced per candle and per thousand

Every list of throw levers you have read is ranked by impact. This one is ranked by what it costs you to find out.

The baseline for every figure below is one production candle: 200 g at an 8% load, Sandalwood in Luxury Soy Wax Chunks at 10 kg pricing, a 200 ml matte glass jar, an Eco C2 wick and a wick sticker — ₹273.55 of materials, ₹2,73,550.40 for a thousand. The third column is the part almost every article omits: the re-test each change obliges, because a candle you altered is a candle whose burn behaviour you no longer know. A six-jar bracket at this baseline consumes ₹1,641.30.

Read it as a spending plan rather than a ranking. Levers 1, 2 and 9 cost effectively nothing and force no re-test, so there is no argument for not doing them. Lever 3 is the cheapest change that can genuinely transform a candle, at ₹3,540 a thousand plus one bracket. Levers 4, 6 and 7 are the expensive ones — not because of the materials, which are trivial, but because each one voids your existing recipe and buys you a full re-qualification. The wick lever

The wick is the only component that decides whether the area you paid for in glass is area you ever actually use.

Here is the honest position on wick sizing at CSI, stated before any advice: the Eco Candle Wicks page does not publish a diameter recommendation. C1 (Thin) and C2 (Thick) appear only as variant names. Two other wick products do publish something — Cotton Braided Wicks Ready Made are described as "engineered for large-diameter candles exceeding 8 cm" with a stated wick height of 10.16 cm, and Eco Candle Wicks Loose are "designed specifically for 2 inch diameters". Everything else is decided by your test, which is exactly why the test is the product.

Calculate the target before you light anythingWrite down your vessel's stated diameter and the pool area it implies. For a 7 cm jar that is 38.5 cm². The pass condition is that the pool reaches the glass all the way round in two to three hours and stays clean. A pool that stalls at 5 cm across in the same jar is 19.6 cm² — half the area you bought and roughly half the release.

Reject the oversized answer as firmly as the undersized oneA wick that soots, mushrooms or drives a pool deeper than about a centimetre is not a stronger candle — it is a hotter one, and it burns off the lighter notes it is supposed to be projecting. The pass is the smallest wick that reaches the glass in two to three hours cleanly, not the largest one that reaches it fastest.

Above 8 cm, change wick family rather than wick sizeIf your vessel is wider than about 8 cm — the 10 cm apothecary jar, for instance — a single thin wick will not open it. Cotton Braided Wicks Ready Made at ₹12 each are the product whose page states it is engineered for diameters exceeding 8 cm; a multi-wick layout is the alternative, and a Steel Wick Holder at ₹250 for five states a 3-hole layout that "fits single, double, or triple wick setups" up to 9 cm wide. Either way it is a new candle and a new bracket.
The trap: buying a bigger wick to fix a problem that is actually cure. A candle judged at day 3 reads quiet, gets re-wicked up, and then at day 18 the same candle is sooting because the original wick was right all along. Run the cure before the wick decision, not after it, and keep the wick constant while you do. The wax lever, and why it is never clean

Changing wax looks like one decision. It is at least three, and the other two arrive without being asked for.

The coconut-soy argument is real and the arithmetic is small: Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468 is ₹6,370 per 10 kg against ₹5,999 for Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, so on the 184 g in a 200 g candle at 8% the swap costs ₹6.83 — ₹6,826.40 across a thousand. What it buys is a wax whose page states a fragrance load of up to 13% and a melting point of 50–53°C with a pour of 58–60°C.

And that is where the second and third decisions arrive. A pour twenty degrees lower than Chunks' stated 70–80°C changes your whole bench routine and your set time. A different wax sets into a different crystal structure, which means your wick verdict is void and the bracket has to be run again. If you also nudge the load upward because 13% is now available, you have changed three things and you will not be able to say which one helped. The rule is the same one that governs every experiment on this page: one variable, then a burn test.

The temperature detail almost nobody checks. Several CSI jars state a hot-pour limit — the 150 g golden-lid, black-lid and amber-lid jars all say "Safe for hot-pour up to 85°C", and the apothecary jar the same. CSI 464's page states a pour temperature of 80°C – 90°C. At the top of that stated band you would be pouring above the jar's stated limit. That is a pairing question, not a fault in either product, and it is exactly the kind of conflict a formula card is meant to surface before a thousand jars are filled.

The formula lever: structure and incorporation

"Better oil" is not a lever, because nobody can buy it. "More base" is a lever, because pages publish their pyramids.

There is no measurable way to buy a stronger oil off a page, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling. What you can read is structure — 88 of 107 CSI fragrance pages publish a full top / heart / base pyramid, and 102 publish notes of some kind. Structure predicts what survives: a scent whose character sits in its base has less to lose to a cool soy pool and a fortnight of cure than one whose character is all in the top. That is the formula lever, and it is free to read before you buy.

The commercially useful version is anchoring. Keep the bright oil your customers ask for and give it something heavy to hold onto, then treat the result as a new oil and qualify it properly. Worked at 8% on a 200 g candle, with both oils at 1 kg pricing:

Three things to hold in mind before you blend. First, a blend is a new oil: every published figure you were relying on — stated load, stated flash point, stated vanillin — applies to the components, not to the mixture, so the governing load becomes the lower of the two and the qualification starts again. Second, keep the blend ratio to the gram and write it on the card, or you have invented a scent you cannot reorder. Third, if one component's page states vanillin present and the other states 0%, the blend can still yellow pale wax — Woody Oud's and Sandalwood's pages state 0% vanillin, but a gourmand anchor generally will not.

Incorporation is the other half of the formula lever and it is genuinely free. Chunks state fragrance in at 80–90°C; Eco Soy CSI 400 states 85°C with a two-minute stir. Oil that dissolved into the wax behaves differently from oil that was merely stirred through it, and the difference shows up as throw rather than as anything you can see in the jar. The CSI principle
Load decides how much fragrance you bought. Area, wick and cure decide how much of it a customer ever meets.
A percentage is a purchasing fact. Square centimetres of open pool, a fortnight of cure and two minutes of stirring are product facts — and they are the ones that show up in a room.

The free lever that still costs money

Cure is free in materials and expensive in cash flow, which is why manufacturers skip it and makers do not.

Curing is the wax crystal structure settling and the fragrance distributing evenly through it, and it takes weeks rather than hours. Standard practice for soy containers is 14 to 21 days; the Chunks page's own figure is a minimum of 48 hours, ideally one to two weeks, before performing burn tests, and several oil pages state 48–72 hours for soy. Take the longest figure your materials publish, and cure with lids on, in closed cartons, at room temperature.

Now price it honestly, because at a thousand candles a month it is not free. Holding a month's stock for 21 days instead of 7 means fourteen extra days of ₹2,73,550.40 of materials sitting in cartons — about ₹1,27,656.85 of working capital. That is the real reason production lines shorten cures, and it is a reason worth arguing with rather than dismissing: the alternative is shipping a candle that a customer will judge quiet and not reorder. The practical resolution is a rolling cure — pour continuously, ship from the oldest carton — so the capital is tied up once at the start rather than every month.

Cure is also your cosmetic warranty
Fourteen days lidded in a carton is not only a throw decision. It is the window in which a load your wax cannot hold will show itself as surface beading, and a vanillin-present oil will show itself as a colour shift, while the stock is still in your building and not on a shelf. How do I get stronger hot throw without increasing fragrance load?
Increase the release area and make sure you actually reach it. Pool area is π × (radius)², so a stated 7 cm jar gives 38.5 cm² against 28.3 cm² for a 6 cm jar, and the 10 cm apothecary gives 78.5 cm². The wick decides whether the pool opens fully: stepping Eco C1 up to C2 costs ₹3.54 a candle. Then cure the full fortnight and add fragrance inside the wax page's stated band with a two-minute stir. All of that is available with the load untouched.
Do two small candles really smell stronger than one large one?
For filling a room, yes, and it is geometry rather than opinion. Two 100 g candles in stated 6 cm jars give 56.5 cm² of combined pool against 38.5 cm² for one candle in a stated 7 cm jar — about 47% more evaporating surface from the same wax and the same oil, released from two points instead of one. The extra cost is one more jar, wick and sticker: ₹28.46 per pair. Sell it as a set and the basket value rises too.
Which wick size should I use for my jar diameter?
Two CSI wick pages publish a diameter statement and the rest do not. Cotton Braided Wicks Ready Made state they are "engineered for large-diameter candles exceeding 8 cm"; Eco Candle Wicks Loose are "designed specifically for 2 inch diameters". The Eco Candle Wicks page states none, so C1 and C2 have to be bracketed in your own jar. The pass is the smallest wick that reaches the glass in two to three hours without soot or mushrooming.
Does switching to coconut-soy wax improve hot throw?
It changes the pool, and the change costs little — CSI 468 at ₹6,370 per 10 kg against Chunks at ₹5,999 is ₹6.83 more on the 184 g in a 200 g candle. But it is not a free swap: its page states a melting point of 50–53°C and a pour of 58–60°C against Chunks' 70–80°C pour, so your bench routine changes and your wick verdict is void until you re-run the bracket. Change the wax or the load, never both in one batch.
Can blending two fragrance oils give a stronger candle?
It can change what survives, which is usually what people mean. Anchoring a top-heavy scent with a base-weighted one — 70% Citrus Lemon with 30% Sandalwood — costs ₹55.85 per 200 g candle at 8% against ₹45.31 for the citrus alone. Treat the result as a new oil: the governing load becomes the lower of the two published figures, the blend ratio goes on the card to the gram, and the whole formula is re-qualified before it ships.
Is a longer cure really worth it at production volume?
It is the highest-return change on this page and the only one with no materials cost — but it is not costless. Holding a thousand candles for 21 days rather than 7 ties up about ₹1,27,656.85 of extra inventory at ₹273.55 of materials per candle. Run a rolling cure and you pay that once rather than monthly. The Chunks page asks for a minimum of 48 hours and ideally one to two weeks; standard practice for soy containers is 14–21 days.
