Wax melts · summer shipping
No CSI wax publishes a temperature it survives. Here is how to test four candidates in a real hot parcel and cost each one per pack.
4 waxes
put through the same packed heat test before you buy for summer
Quick answers — read this first
Which CSI wax survives Indian summer shipping? CSI publishes no survival temperature for any wax. Heat-test CSI 468, Soy Pillar Wax, a 50:50 soy blend and paraffin pellets in your own packed parcel.

Is CSI 468’s 50–53°C melt point a shipping rating? No. Wax softens below its melt point, and fragrance oil softens it further. Use the figure as a reference, not a promise.

Should I lower fragrance load for summer? A suggested 8% of total weight leaves less oil to seep in heat. On a 60 g pack, 10% to 8% removes 1.2 g of oil.

Why run paraffin at 6%? Many oil pages state a lower paraffin ceiling. Eucalyptus Spearmint states up to 6% in paraffin against 10% in soy.
The short answer
Honest answer: No CSI wax has a published survival temperature; run a packed heat test with your own thermometer.
Test set: CSI 468, Soy Pillar Wax, 464 plus Pillar 50:50 and paraffin pellets, with Eucalyptus Spearmint.
Cost spread: Wax per 60 g pack ranges from ₹19.54 in paraffin to ₹35.16 in CSI 468.
Wax cost per 60 g melt pack at 8%Paraffin₹20464 + 5% micro₹27CSI 464₹28Soy Pillar₹33CSI 468₹35
Each bar is the same 55.2 g wax portion at the best per-gram CSI price; oil, clamshell and packaging are extra.
Straight answer
I Want Wax Melts That Survive Indian Summer Courier Shipping Without Becoming Soft — What Type of Wax Should I Buy?
There is no wax you can buy with a guaranteed summer rating; CSI publishes no temperature any of its waxes survive. Test the firmer options instead: CSI 468 (stated melt point 50–53°C), Soy Pillar Wax, a 50:50 blend of CSI 464 and Pillar Wax, and paraffin pellets at the oil page’s paraffin limit. Pack them exactly as you ship, leave them somewhere genuinely hot with a thermometer, and score shape, seepage and scent after one and three days. Pair the winning wax with a suggested 8% load and an inner sealed pouch. The four-batch test costs ₹1,711.00.
One line: summer-proof melts come from a packed heat test, a modest load and good packaging, never from a promised temperature.
Soy Pillar Wax is made for free-standing mould candles, which makes it the firmest all-soy option to heat-test for melts.

What actually goes wrong with melts in a hot parcel

No wax comes with a temperature guarantee, so the only honest answer is a heat test you run yourself.

Picture the parcel: sealed in a carton, sitting in a delivery van or a sorting shed through an Indian May afternoon, then on a doorstep. A melt in a closed clamshell rarely melts into a puddle and escapes. The failures that bring complaints are quieter. Cavities slump and fuse into one block. Oil seeps onto the plastic and stains the outer box. The surface blooms or turns dull. The scent comes out of the parcel flatter than it went in.

CSI publishes no temperature that any of its waxes will survive, and neither should you promise one to customers. CSI 468 states a melt point of 50–53°C, but a melt point is not a shipping rating: wax softens well before it becomes liquid, and fragrance oil lowers the point at which a melt goes soft. So this page does not tell you which wax “survives” summer. It tells you which waxes to put through your own heat test, how to run it, and what each option costs per pack.

Which waxes are worth testing for summer shipping

A harder wax holds its shape better as it warms, but a melt still has to liquefy in a warmer and carry scent. These are the CSI options worth comparing, with what each page does and does not tell you.

Candidate waxes
What the product pages publish, and the trade-off
Wax Published figures Why test it Trade-off
CSI 468 coconut soy Melt point 50–53°C; load up to 13% The one container wax with a stated melt point to anchor your test Still a container wax, made to be soft
Soy Pillar Wax None published Made for free-standing mould candles No published load; may liquefy more slowly
CSI 464 + Soy Pillar Wax 50:50 Your own blend Keeps the melt all-soy while firming it Two waxes to stock and weigh
Fully Refined Paraffin Pellets None published Usually firmer than container soy Not a soy product; oils state lower paraffin loads
CSI 464 + microcrystalline Micro stated 1–10% Adds strength at a small share Can add tackiness; test release too

Notice that the oil matters here as well. Many CSI oil pages state a lower ceiling in paraffin than in soy. Eucalyptus Spearmint, for example, states up to 10% in soy but up to 6% in paraffin, so a paraffin melt must run at the lower figure. A fresh, cooling oil also suits a summer launch, its flashpoint is published at 199°C and it carries 0% vanillin, so it will not muddy the colour comparison.

A four-batch heat test, weighed and costed

Make four 200 g batches with the same oil. Hold the soy batches at a suggested 8% of total weight, which also gives you a margin below the stated maximums once oil softens the wax in the heat, and run the paraffin batch at 6% of total weight to keep it inside the oil page’s paraffin figure.

Heat-test batches
Four 200 g batches with Eucalyptus Spearmint
Batch Wax Load Wax weight Oil weight
A CSI 468 8% 184 g 16 g
B Soy Pillar Wax 8% 184 g 16 g
C 464 + Pillar 50:50 8% 92 g + 92 g 16 g
D Paraffin pellets 6% 188 g 12 g

Oil total: 16 + 16 + 16 + 12 = 60 g from a 100 g pack. Soy Pillar Wax total: 184 + 92 = 276 g from a 500 g pack.

Test-kit cost
Live CSI prices for the heat test
Item Pack Price
CSI 468 coconut soy 500 g ₹325.00
Soy Pillar Wax 500 g ₹300.00
CSI 464 flakes 500 g ₹260.00
Fully Refined Paraffin Pellets 500 g ₹177.00
Eucalyptus Spearmint 100 g ₹354.00
Wax melt clamshells Pack of 10 ₹295.00
Total ₹1,711.00

Working: 325 + 300 + 260 + 177 + 354 + 295 = ₹1,711.00. Your own thermometer for the test site is not included.

1
Pour two clamshells per batch.Cure them together for at least the 48–72 h CSI states for soy, so every sample starts equal.
2
Pack one of each exactly as you ship.Same pouch, same carton, same filler. The packaging is part of what you are testing.
3
Put the packed set somewhere genuinely hot.A closed car in the sun or a terrace in the afternoon are common choices. Leave a thermometer beside the carton and write down the highest reading you see. Keep the second clamshell of each batch indoors as the control.
4
Open after one day and after three days. These are suggested intervals. Score shape, fused cavities, oil on the plastic, surface bloom and scent against the indoor control.
5
Warmer-test the survivors.A wax that holds its shape but sits half-solid in the warmer has solved one problem by creating another.

Handle the heat test with care. A sealed parcel in a parked car can get far hotter than the air outside, and glass, aerosols or anything flammable should never share that space.

Cavities fused but no oil on the plastic. The wax softened and re-set. Customers may accept it if warned, but try the next firmer option before accepting it as normal.
Shape kept, oily film on the clamshell. The wax held but the oil moved. Lower the load by one or two points before changing wax, and add an inner pouch.
Everything held, warmer test weak. The wax may be too firm for an ordinary warmer. Step back towards the 50:50 soy blend, which usually gives up a little firmness for better release.

One round of testing seldom settles it. Take the best two batches into a second round at a slightly higher load, or in a second oil from a different family, before you decide. A woody or gourmand oil can soften wax differently from a fresh mint one, so a range of five fragrances may need the heat test repeated for the heaviest of them.

What each wax costs per pack, and what else to change

CSI does not publish clamshell cavity fill weight, so weigh a filled pack yourself. As an example only, take a 60 g pack at 8%, which is 55.2 g of wax and 4.8 g of oil. Using the best per-gram price for each wax:

Wax cost per 60 g pack
Same 55.2 g wax portion in each option
Wax Price per gram Working Wax cost
CSI 464 (10 kg) ₹5,074.00 ÷ 10,000 = ₹0.5074 55.2 × ₹0.5074 ₹28.01
CSI 464 + 5% micro ₹0.5074 and ₹299.00 ÷ 1,000 = ₹0.299 52.44 × ₹0.5074 + 2.76 × ₹0.299 ₹27.44
Soy Pillar Wax (10 kg) ₹6,000.00 ÷ 10,000 = ₹0.60 55.2 × ₹0.60 ₹33.12
CSI 468 (10 kg) ₹6,370.00 ÷ 10,000 = ₹0.637 55.2 × ₹0.637 ₹35.16
Paraffin pellets (1 kg) ₹354.00 ÷ 1,000 = ₹0.354 55.2 × ₹0.354 ₹19.54

The oil adds 4.8 g × (₹3,068.00 ÷ 1,000 = ₹3.068) = ₹14.73 at the Eucalyptus Spearmint 1 kg price, whichever wax you choose. The spread between the cheapest and dearest wax is about ₹15 a pack. That is small next to a single returned parcel, so choose on the heat-test result, not on wax price.

Wax is only one lever. A lower load leaves less oil to seep in heat; dropping from 10% to 8% of a 60 g pack removes 1.2 g of oil. An inner sealed pouch catches any seepage before it reaches the outer box, and an insulated mailer slows heating. Those packaging costs are yours to add; CSI does not sell them. Telling customers on the listing that melts can soften in transit, and that a softened melt still works once it re-sets, is more honest than a promise no wax can keep.

Argue against interest
Do not promise customers a temperature.
No wax on the CSI range publishes one, and a melt point is not a survival rating. Tell buyers melts may soften in transit and still work once re-set; that honesty costs less than refunds.
A melt point tells you when wax turns liquid, not when it starts to slump.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials and production equipment, not finished candles. This guide separates general candle-making practice from what CSI's own product pages state, says plainly where CSI publishes no figure (wick sizes, burn times, hardness), and labels every wick, load, test count or margin as a starting point for your own validation.

Prices are live CSI prices from October 2026; product pages are authoritative. Where a spec is not published — such as a wick size for your jar, a mould's cycle life or a wax's survival temperature — this guide says so rather than filling the gap.

Frequently asked questions

what wax melts don’t melt in hot weather
No wax has a published temperature it survives. Firmer options to test include CSI Soy Pillar Wax, a 50:50 blend with CSI 464, CSI 468 and paraffin pellets. Run a packed heat test before choosing.
can soy wax melts be shipped in summer in india
Yes, with testing and care. Use a modest load, a firmer wax or blend proven in your own heat test, an inner sealed pouch and an insulated mailer, and tell customers melts can soften in transit.
what is the melting point of csi 468 wax
CSI states a melt point of 50–53°C and a pour temperature of 58–60°C for CSI 468. Treat the melt point as a reference, because wax softens below it and fragrance oil lowers it further.
is paraffin better than soy for wax melts in summer
Paraffin pellets are usually firmer than container soy, but the melt is no longer soy and oils often state lower paraffin loads, such as 6% for Eucalyptus Spearmint. Heat-test it against Soy Pillar Wax before deciding.
how do i test wax melts for heat damage
Pack one clamshell from each batch exactly as you ship, leave it somewhere hot with a thermometer, keep a twin indoors, and compare shape, seepage, bloom and scent after one and three days.
how much do summer wax melts cost to make
As an example, the wax in a 60 g pack at 8% costs ₹28.01 in CSI 464, ₹33.12 in Soy Pillar Wax or ₹35.16 in CSI 468 at bulk prices. Oil, clamshell and packaging are extra.
