Candle Supplier Guides · Costing
A headline percentage is a quote, not a saving. This page prices the four things that stand between the two, using live CSI stock for the retesting bill, and leaves the two figures only you have blank.
₹17.89
what 8% is worth on one ₹223.62 candle · ₹4,779.14 to requalify · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
What is 8% actually worth per candle? On a candle costing ₹223.62 in materials at September 2026 CSI pricing, 8% off everything is ₹17.89. If the switch only covers your wax and fragrance — which is the usual case — it is 8% of ₹146.92, or ₹11.75. This page carries the larger figure throughout, so the conclusion cannot be blamed on a mean assumption.

What does retesting cost? ₹4,779.14 for a 12-candle requalification batch across three wick options and two loads, priced on live CSI stock plus the new supplier's wax at your own 8%-lower rate. At ₹17.89 a candle it pays for itself at 268 candles, which at 200 candles a month is about 1.34 months. That is the cheapest of the four deductions.

Why does shipping matter so much? Because it is bigger than the saving. A 10 kg pack of Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 carries a stored packed weight of 11.0 kg, and the cheapest published band covering it is ₹1,200.00 on Standard Shipping in September 2026. Spread over the 50 candles that pack makes, that is ₹24.00 a candle — more than the ₹17.89 the switch is meant to save. A supplier whose freight is worse by even a few rupees a candle erases the quote.

So what is the real saving? Between ₹5.90 and ₹15.90 a candle in the first year, or 2.64% to 7.11% against the 8% on the quote — before MOQ cash and your own hours, both of which are yours to fill in. Get the new supplier's delivered rate in writing before you believe any of it.
The short answer
8% is ₹17.89 a candle: on a ₹223.62 candle built from 200 g of Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 at ₹507.40/kg, 16 g of Citrus Lemon at 8% of wax weight, a Black Glossy Glass Jar and a Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1). At 200 candles a month that is ₹3,577.92 a month.
Requalifying costs ₹4,779.14: a 12-candle batch across three wick options and two loads, priced from live CSI stock. Spread over a year at 200 candles a month it is ₹1.99 a candle — 11.13% of the first year's saving.
Freight and MOQ decide the rest: inbound delivery on CSI's own published bands runs ₹20.00 to ₹25.20 a candle depending on pack size, so a freight difference of ₹10.00 a candle takes the switch from 8% to 2.64%. Ask for the delivered rate, not the rate.
Cumulative saving from an 8 per cent supplier switch against the one-off cost of a requalification batch, at three freight outcomes When an 8% switch has paid for its own test batchCumulative saving against candles made. The dotted line is the one-offrequalification cost. Solid: 8% intact. Dashed: freight ₹5.00 and ₹10.00a candle worse with the new supplier. What it shows: the cumulative rupee saving from an 8% supplier switch on the candle costed on this page, plotted against candles made, and the flat one-off cost of the 12-candle requalification batch priced from live CSI stock in September 2026. The solid line assumes the 8% survives intact; the two dashed lines assume a freight difference of ₹5.00 and ₹10.00 a candle against the new supplier, which pushes payback from 268 candles to 371 and 606. Deliberately left out: the cash locked in a minimum order quantity, your own hours on the test batch, and the risk that the new material simply does not pass — none of which is a rupee figure this page is entitled to invent.
Straight answer
How do I turn an 8% supplier quote into the saving I will actually bank?
By subtracting four things from it, in this order, and by refusing to move an order until all four have a number. Start with what 8% is worth. The candle this page costs — 200 g of Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 at ₹507.40 a kilogram, 16 g of Citrus Lemon at 8% of wax weight, a Black Glossy Glass Jar at ₹70.80 and a Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) at ₹5.90 — is ₹223.62 in materials at September 2026 pricing, so 8% is ₹17.89 a candle, ₹3,577.92 a month at 200 candles and ₹42,935.04 a year. First deduction, freight. Inbound delivery is charged in flat weight bands, and on CSI's own published bands a 10 kg wax pack at a stored packed weight of 11.0 kg is ₹1,200.00, which spread over the 50 candles it makes is ₹24.00 a candle — larger than the saving itself. Ask the new supplier for a delivered rate to your pin code, in writing, for the pack size you will actually order. Second, the minimum order. A cheaper rate that comes with a 100 kg minimum locks up cash and months of cover, and if the material fails your burn test it locks up both in something you cannot use. Third, requalification. Changing a wax or an oil means re-establishing wick size and cure behaviour, and that is a real batch with a real bill: ₹4,779.14 for 12 test candles across three wick options and two loads, priced from live CSI stock, which pays for itself at 268 candles. Fourth, your hours, which this page will not price for you. Net it down and the honest range is ₹5.90 to ₹15.90 a candle in the first year — 2.64% to 7.11%, against a quote that said 8%.
One line: 8% is ₹17.89 a candle; requalifying costs ₹4,779.14 and a freight difference of ₹10.00 a candle reduces the switch to 2.64%.
8% of this candle is ₹17.89. The candle: 200 g of Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 at ₹507.40/kg, 16 g of Citrus Lemon at ₹2.84/g, a Black Glossy Glass Jar at ₹70.80 and a Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) at ₹5.90 — ₹223.62 in materials at September 2026 pricing. Every deduction below is measured against that ₹17.89.

What 8% is worth, and 8% of what

A percentage is only a number once you name the base it sits on. Most switch quotes never do.

The first question to put to an 8% quote is which lines it covers. Almost no supplier switch moves everything. If the new supplier sells wax and fragrance oil but not vessels or wicks, the 8% applies to ₹146.92 of this candle rather than to all ₹223.62, and the saving is ₹11.75 rather than ₹17.89. That is a difference of ₹6.14 a candle before anything else has been counted, and it is the single most common way a switch disappoints. This page carries the generous reading — 8% off every material line — throughout, so that when the arithmetic lands somewhere well below 8% it cannot be blamed on a pessimistic starting point.

Here is the candle, stated in full so that everything downstream is checkable. The fill reading carried on this page is 200 g of wax plus 16 g of oil at 8% of wax weight, 216 g poured; fragrance load is a percentage of wax weight, which is how CSI product pages state it. The wax is Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 bought as the 5 kg pack, whose page gives a maximum load of 10% of total wax weight and 80–90°C as the working range for melting and pouring. The oil is Citrus Lemon, whose page gives a soy candle range of 6–10% of total wax weight and approximately 0% vanillin; the lower of the two published limits governs, and here both are 10%, so an 8% load sits inside both. The vessel is a Black Glossy Glass Jar, priced per piece out of the five-piece pack; its page states a 200 ml fill and dimensions of 8 cm by 7 cm, and this page neither converts millilitres to grams nor claims that any particular pour fits it. The wick is a Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1).

Live CSI pricing, September 2026, taxes included. The 8% is your figure, taken from your quote and used exactly as given; it is applied to CSI prices only so that the arithmetic has a checkable base, and is never presented as a CSI discount. The 200-candle month is a worked volume for this page.
The CSI principle
A quote is a rate. A saving is a delivered, tested, paid-for rate.
The gap between them on this candle is ₹11.99 in the first year, before your own hours.

Freight, the deduction that most often swallows the whole quote

On the pack sizes a small maker actually orders, inbound delivery per candle is larger than 8%.

Delivery is charged in flat weight bands, on the stored packed weight of what you order rather than on the weight printed on the label. That is worth checking on any supplier, and the arithmetic is easy to do on CSI's own published bands, which serve here as a reference rather than as a comparison — this page does not know what the other supplier charges and will not guess. A 5 kg pack of Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 carries a stored packed weight of 6.0 kg and the cheapest published band covering it is ₹630.00 on Standard Shipping in September 2026; that pack makes 25 candles at 200 g, so it carries ₹25.20 a candle. The 10 kg pack at 11.0 kg is ₹1,200.00 on Standard Shipping across 50 candles, or ₹24.00 a candle. Four 10 kg packs together at 44.0 kg is ₹4,000.00 on Expedited Shipping across 200 candles, or ₹20.00 a candle.

Inbound delivery per candle · CSI published bands, September 2026
What carrying the wax costs before the wax is even melted
Wax ordered Stored packed weight Band used Candles at 200 g Per candle
5 kg pack 6.0 kg ₹630.00 on Standard 25 ₹25.20
10 kg pack 11.0 kg ₹1,200.00 on Standard 50 ₹24.00
Four 10 kg packs 44.0 kg ₹4,000.00 on Expedited 200 ₹20.00
The 8% quote, for comparison — — — ₹17.89
Priced above: published flat rate bands as at September 2026, read on the stored packed weights of the Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 packs — 6.0 kg for the 5 kg pack, 11.0 kg for the 10 kg pack. Rates are merchant-set and can change; checkout is authoritative. The candle counts assume 200 g of wax a candle and no wastage, which is an assumption and not measured data. Nothing here is a quote for any other supplier's delivery, which only they can give you.

Read the last row of that table against the three above it. At the pack sizes a maker of 200 candles a month actually orders, carrying the wax costs ₹20.00 to ₹25.20 a candle, while the entire 8% quote is worth ₹17.89. The two numbers are the same order of size. That is the whole argument of this section: a difference in delivered freight of a few rupees a candle is not a detail at the bottom of the page, it is the deciding term. Two suppliers whose rates differ by 8% and whose freight differs by ₹10.00 a candle are not 8% apart; on this candle they are 2.64% apart, and that is before the test batch.

Comparing rates instead of landed cost. A quote of ₹466.81 a kilogram against ₹507.40 looks decisive until you ask who pays to move it. Insist on a delivered price to your pin code, for the pack size you will actually buy, in writing, with the packed weight stated — and then do the division by candles yourself. A supplier who will not give you a delivered figure has told you something useful.
Testing on a sample and buying on a pack. A free 100 g sample arrives with no freight and no minimum, so the material looks cheap and easy. The order that follows carries ₹1,200.00 of delivery and a minimum you did not test against. Price the switch on the order you intend to place every month, not on the parcel that arrived free.

Minimum order quantity: cash you cannot spend twice

A minimum order is not a cost. It is a commitment, and it is measured in months, not rupees.

Cheaper rates usually arrive attached to a minimum order quantity, and an MOQ does two things that a cost sheet does not naturally show. It converts working capital into stock, and it fixes how long you are married to a decision you have only tested once. Both are measurable without inventing a number. At 200 candles a month and 200 g of wax a candle you use 40.0 kg of wax a month, so any MOQ divided by 40.0 gives months of cover. The cash side is the MOQ multiplied by the new rate — here shown at ₹466.81 a kilogram, which is your own 8% applied to CSI's published ₹507.40, not a quote from anybody.

Minimum order quantities · wax, at your own 8%-lower rate
What each minimum locks up at 200 candles a month

25 kg ₹11,670.20 0.63 ₹2,236.20 your figure
50 kg ₹23,340.40 1.25 ₹4,472.40 your figure
100 kg ₹46,680.80 2.5 ₹8,944.80 your figure
200 kg ₹93,361.60 5.0 ₹17,889.60 your figure
For comparison, CSI's largest published wax pack ₹5,074.00 0.25 ₹894.48 —
Priced above: the minimum order quantities are illustrative sizes to read your own supplier's figure against, not quotes from anyone. The rate of ₹466.81 a kilogram is your stated 8% applied to Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 at ₹507.40 a kilogram, live CSI pricing September 2026, and is labelled as derived rather than quoted. The cost of holding cash is your own — a bank rate, an overdraft, or the next thing you would have bought with it — and is left blank because it is not a CSI cost and no honest figure for it exists on this page. Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 states a shelf life of 60 months in cool, dry storage.

The column that matters is the third one. A 100 kg minimum is 2.5 months of wax at this volume, and it earns ₹8,944.80 of saving across those months — real money, and money you cannot touch until the wax is poured. If the new wax behaves differently in a Mumbai monsoon or a Nagpur summer, you find out in week two and you are holding 2.0 months of it. There is no rupee figure for that risk that this page could honestly print, so it is not in the table. Judge it in months of cover and in whether you could sell the stock on if the trial went badly.

ASK FOR A TRIAL QUANTITY AT THE BULK RATE
The single most useful thing to ask a new supplier is not a lower price but a small quantity at the quoted price, so the test batch and the production batch use the same material. If they will not, treat the quoted rate as unproven and the MOQ as the real minimum test. CSI's published wax packs run to 10 kg and larger consignments are quoted on WhatsApp, which is also the place to ask for MSDS and IFRA documentation before you commit to anybody's material.

What a requalification batch actually costs

A new wax is a new wick decision and a new cure. Neither is free, and neither is optional.

This is the deduction makers most often leave out, usually because it feels like something they were going to do anyway. It is not. Changing a wax or a fragrance supplier means the wick size that worked is now a hypothesis, and the cure time that gave you your throw is a hypothesis too. General candle-making practice is to re-establish both before a new material reaches a paying customer: at least three wick options across the diameter you pour, at least two fragrance loads, replicated, cured for 14 to 21 days and burn-tested properly. On this store the Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 page states a maximum load of 10% of total wax weight, so a sensible pair is 8% and 10%; three wick options across two loads with two candles each is 12 candles.

Live CSI pricing, September 2026, taxes included. Delivery is the published band covering 7.2 kg of stored packed weight, and excludes the new supplier's wax, which travels on their terms. The wax line is your own 8% applied to ₹507.40 a kilogram and is derived arithmetic, not a quote. Your hours and the sale value of the burned test candles are deliberately blank.

₹4,779.14, then, of which ₹3,658.80 is consumables and delivery you can price today and ₹1,120.34 is the new material itself. Against a saving of ₹17.89 a candle that is 268 candles to break even — about 1.34 months at 200 candles a month, or ₹1.99 a candle if you spread it across a full year. Read that as good news, because it is: the test batch is the cheapest of the four deductions and the only one that ends. It is also the one that protects you from the other three, because a failed burn test before an MOQ is a bad afternoon and a failed burn test after one is a quarter's cash in a corner of the workshop.

Test before the minimum order, not after it.

Netting the 8% down to a number you can bank

Four subtractions, two of them yours. The answer is usually a third to a half of the headline.

Now put the deductions in one place. The requalification cost is known — ₹1.99 a candle spread across a year at 200 candles a month. The freight difference is not known here, because it depends on a rate only the other supplier can give you, so the table below runs it as a sensitivity across four values. MOQ cash and your own hours stay blank, as they must. What the table shows is how quickly an 8% headline stops being 8%.

Priced above: the 8% is your figure, applied to the ₹223.62 candle costed from live CSI stock in September 2026. The requalification line is ₹4,779.14 spread across 2400 candles. The freight differences of ₹0.00, ₹2.00, ₹5.00 and ₹10.00 a candle are illustrative columns for you to read your own delivered quotes against — they are not rates from any supplier and not CSI rates. MOQ cash and your hours are left blank because they are not CSI costs and no honest figure for them exists here.

The shape of that table is the answer to the question in the title. With freight unchanged the switch is worth ₹15.90 a candle, which is 7.11% — already below the headline, and that is before either blank row has a number in it. Let the new supplier's delivered cost be ₹5.00 a candle worse and the switch is 4.87%. Let it be ₹10.00 worse and it is 2.64%, at which point you have spent a month of your own evenings to move ₹14,155.90 a year. None of those outcomes says do not switch. They say get the delivered figure first, because that one number moves the answer more than the quote does.

One thing the table deliberately does not model, because a neighbouring page owns it: a difference in how many candles you have to throw away. If the new material rejects more often, the cost is not the material you wasted but the vessel, the wick, the fragrance and the hour that went with it, and that arithmetic deserves its own sheet. What belongs here is the fact that you will not know your new reject rate until the requalification batch has run, which is another reason to run it before the minimum order rather than after.

Doing this on your own quote

Five steps, in this order. The order is the point — most of the cost is discovered in step two.
1
1. Cost your candle as it is today, line by lineWax, fragrance, vessel, wick, each with its quantity and its rate, exactly as you buy them now. Note which lines the new supplier would actually replace. On this page the four lines are ₹223.62 and the two the switch usually touches are ₹146.92 of that.
2
2. Ask for a delivered price, for your real pack size, in writingNot a rate — a delivered rate to your pin code, for the pack you will order every month, with the packed weight stated. Divide it by the candles that pack makes. On CSI's own published bands the same calculation gives ₹24.00 a candle on a 10 kg wax pack and ₹20.00 on four of them, which is the scale of number you are looking for.
3
3. Write the minimum order down in months, not rupeesDivide the MOQ by your monthly usage — 40.0 kg of wax a month at 200 candles here. A minimum that is more than two or three months of cover on an untested material is a commercial decision, not a purchasing one, and it should be taken as such.
4
4. Price the requalification batch before you place the orderThree wick options, two loads, replicated, cured 14 to 21 days. Price the consumables from a live catalogue rather than from memory: here it is ₹3,658.80 of CSI consumables and delivery plus the new wax, ₹4,779.14 in all. Divide by your annual volume to get the per-candle figure — ₹1.99 here.
5
5. Subtract, then decide with the net figure in front of youHeadline less requalification less freight difference less the cost of the MOQ cash less your hours. If the net is still worth having, run the test batch. If it is not, you have saved yourself a month and the quote has told you something useful about the market rate, which is worth having on its own.

A closing caution about what this page has assumed. Every figure here holds the recipe constant — same 200 g of wax, same 16 g of oil at 8% of wax weight, same vessel, same wick — because a switch in which the product quietly changes is not a saving, it is a new product. Wastage is assumed at zero throughout, which is an assumption and not a measurement, so your real base cost sits above ₹223.62. And the new supplier's rate of ₹466.81 a kilogram exists only as your own 8% applied to a published CSI price, so that the arithmetic has something checkable under it. Replace it with the number on your quote and every figure on this page recomputes in the same shape.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA would rather you stayed, and this page still gives you the arithmetic to leave. That is deliberate. If another supplier's delivered, tested, minimum-order-adjusted cost genuinely beats CSI's, the honest thing is for you to be able to see it, and for that calculation to be the same one either way. What the page will not do is pretend the headline is the saving: on this candle an 8% quote nets down to between ₹5.90 and ₹15.90 a candle in the first year before your own hours, and the line that moves it most is delivery, not price.

Every CSI price here is live stock in September 2026, taxes included, and the linked product pages are authoritative if anything changes. Fragrance load is a percentage of wax weight, as CSI product pages state it; the fill reading carried throughout is 200 g of wax plus 16 g of oil at 8%, 216 g poured. Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 states a maximum load of 10% of total wax weight, 80–90°C as the working range for melting and pouring and a 60 month shelf life in cool, dry storage; the Citrus Lemon page states a soy candle range of 6–10% of total wax weight and approximately 0% vanillin, and where a wax ceiling and an oil range differ the lower one governs. The Black Glossy Glass Jar page states a 200 ml fill and 8 cm by 7 cm dimensions; no fill weight in grams is published and none is assumed. The 8% is your figure; the derived rate of ₹466.81 a kilogram is that 8% applied to a CSI price and is not a quote from any supplier. Delivery figures are published flat bands by weight as at September 2026, read on stored packed weights. The minimum order quantities and the freight-difference columns are illustrative. Wastage is assumed at zero, which is an assumption and not measured data. Your hours, the cost of capital, packaging, outbound courier and the other supplier's charges are not CSI costs and are left blank.

Frequently asked questions

Is an 8% supplier saving worth switching for?
It depends almost entirely on freight and on the minimum order, not on the 8%. On the candle costed here 8% is ₹17.89 and the switch nets down to ₹15.90 with freight unchanged and ₹5.90 if the new supplier's delivered cost is ₹10.00 a candle worse. Get the delivered rate before you decide; it moves the answer more than the quote does.
How many test candles do I need to requalify a new wax?
General candle-making practice is to cover the wick sizes you might need and at least two fragrance loads, replicated, then cure 14 to 21 days before judging throw. Three wick options at two loads with two candles each is 12 candles, which is the batch costed on this page at ₹4,779.14. Fewer than that and you are guessing; many more and you are spending the saving.
How long before the switch pays for the test batch?
268 candles at a saving of ₹17.89 each, which at 200 candles a month is about 1.34 months. If the new supplier's delivered cost is ₹5.00 a candle worse it is 371 candles, and at ₹10.00 worse it is 606. The test batch is the cheapest and the most finite of the deductions.
Should I count the cash tied up in a minimum order as a cost?
Yes, but as your cost, not as a number anyone can print for you. Express the minimum in months of cover first: at 200 candles a month you use 40.0 kg of wax, so a 100 kg minimum is 2.5 months. Then apply whatever that cash costs you — a bank rate, an overdraft, or the inventory you would rather have bought. That figure is not a CSI cost and this page will not guess it.
Can I keep two suppliers instead of switching?
Often, and it is worth costing rather than dismissing. Two suppliers means two inbound parcels and two sets of band charges, which on CSI's published bands is the difference between one 11.0 kg parcel at ₹1,200.00 and two smaller ones. It also means a qualified second source when one runs out before Diwali. Price the extra delivery honestly against the value of not being stuck.
What if the new material needs a different wick?
Then the wick line changes and so does your cost, which is exactly what the requalification batch is for. On this store a Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) is ₹5.90 a wick and a Thick (C2) is ₹9.44, so moving up one size adds ₹3.54 a candle — about 19.79% of the 8% you were saving. A Performance Wooden Wicks at ₹59.00 each would take considerably more than the saving.

The method — name the base the percentage sits on, insist on a delivered rate rather than a rate, express the minimum order in months of cover, price the requalification batch before you commit, and subtract in that order — works with any supplier, any material and any currency.

Figures verified September 2026 (CSI live pricing). Your figures, used exactly as given: a quoted 8% saving on raw materials, and a worked volume of 200 candles a month chosen for this page. Series convention: fragrance load is a percentage of wax weight, so the costing unit is 200 g of wax plus 16 g of oil at 8%, 216 g poured, and that is the reading carried throughout. Live CSI prices, September 2026, taxes included. Wax: Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 500 g ₹260.00 (₹520.00/kg), 1 kg ₹507.40, 5 kg ₹2,537.00 (₹507.40/kg), 10 kg ₹5,074.00; the product page gives 80–90°C as the working range for melting and pouring, a maximum fragrance load of 10% of total wax weight and a 60 month shelf life in cool, dry storage. Fragrance: Citrus Lemon 100 g ₹300.00 (₹3.00/g), 500 g ₹1,420.00 (₹2.84/g); the page states a soy candle range of 6–10% of total wax weight and approximately 0% vanillin. Vessel: Black Glossy Glass Jar 5 pieces ₹354.00 (₹70.80 each); the page states a 200 ml fill and dimensions of 8 cm by 7 cm, and no fill weight in grams is published, so none is used. Wicks: Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) 20 for ₹118.00 (₹5.90 each) and Thick (C2) 20 for ₹188.80 (₹9.44 each); Performance Wooden Wicks 10 for ₹590.00 (₹59.00 each). Tool named but not counted: Pen Thermometer ₹354.00. Delivery: published flat rate bands as at September 2026, read on stored packed weights of 6.0 kg and 11.0 kg for the wax packs and 7.2 kg for the test order. Derived, not quoted: the new supplier's rate of ₹466.81 a kilogram, which is your own 8% applied to the published CSI rate. Illustrative: the minimum order quantities of 25, 50, 100 and 200 kg and the freight-difference columns of ₹0.00, ₹2.00, ₹5.00 and ₹10.00 a candle; the page assumes zero wastage, which is an assumption and not measured data.
