Procurement · Three-month plan
A sales forecast tells you when customers buy. A purchasing plan has to follow when you pour, and in a Diwali quarter those are different months. This page turns an October–December forecast into production, then into three dated orders for wax, four festive oils, wicks, jars and tins.
₹5,32,119.80
of materials across three orders for October–December 2026 · 2,275 candles poured · opening stock and closing targets included · CSI listed prices
Quick answers — read this first
How do I turn a sales forecast into a purchasing plan? Three steps: move each month's sales back to the month you must pour them (cure and dispatch time), convert production into materials, then net off opening stock and add a closing-stock target before rounding to packs.

Why is October the biggest month when November sells most? Because Diwali falls on 8 November 2026. In the example, 80% of November's sales happen in its first half, so those candles are poured in October. October production is 1,390 candles against 700 sold.

How much does the three-month plan buy? ₹3,26,417.80 in October, ₹1,11,795.60 in November and ₹93,906.40 in December — ₹5,32,119.80 in all, at CSI listed prices.

When should each order be placed? Before the production it feeds, by at least the delivery time. For October's pour, that is now — late September. See the order calendar.
The short answer
Method: Forecast sales → production month (cure lead) → materials (units × fill × load split + allowances) → net of opening stock + closing target → round to packs → date each order by delivery time.
Example: Sales Oct/Nov/Dec: 700 / 1,300 / 450 candles. Production: 1,390 / 485 / 400. Wax need: 194.78 kg / 70.67 kg / 62.19 kg.
Orders: October ₹3,26,417.80 · November ₹1,11,795.60 · December ₹93,906.40 · total ₹5,32,119.80.
Sell in November, pour in October — the forecast becomes a production plan, then a purchasing plan 700 1,390 October 2026 orders ₹3,26,417.80 1,300 485 November 2026 orders ₹1,11,795.60 450 400 December 2026 orders ₹93,906.40 Diwali · 8 Nov candles sold (forecast) candles poured Units: 200 g jars + 85 g tins, example forecast
Outlined bars: candles sold each month in the example forecast. Filled bars: candles poured. Because 80% of November's sales fall before and around Diwali (8 November), October pours 1,390 candles while selling 700. The rupee line under each month is that month's material order at CSI listed prices.
Straight answer
I'm planning production for the next three months — how do I convert my candle sales forecast into a purchasing plan for wax, fragrance oils, wicks and jars?
Plan in the order the work happens. First, move sales to the month you pour. Candles need time to cure and dispatch — we use about two weeks as a working checkpoint — so a month's first-half sales are poured in the previous month. In a Diwali quarter that shifts a lot: with Diwali on 8 November 2026 and 80% of November's sales in its first half, our example sells 700 candles in October but pours 1,390. Second, turn each month's production into materials: units × fill × (1 − load) for wax, × load for oil, split by scent, one wick and one container each, with small allowances. Third, run each material month by month: opening stock, plus a closing-stock target (a quarter of next month's need, roughly a week), minus what you hold, rounded up to real packs. The surplus from rounding carries into the next month. Finally, date each order by its delivery time before the pour it feeds. The example needs ₹3,26,417.80 of materials ordered now for October, ₹1,11,795.60 for November and ₹93,906.40 for December — ₹5,32,119.80 in all, at CSI listed prices, with an out-of-stock oil size planned around rather than assumed.
One line: buy for the month you pour, not the month you sell — and in a Diwali quarter those are different months.
October's pour is the biggest in the plan, and it starts in days. Dark Vanilla Oud is the largest festive scent in the example: ₹2,845.00 for 500 g or ₹5,691.00 for 1 kg (₹5.69 a gram either way). Order October's materials this week so they are on the shelf when pouring starts.

From sales forecast to production

Customers buy in November. Candles are poured in October. A purchasing plan that follows the sales calendar arrives three weeks too late.

Start with a forecast by product and month — your own sales history for the same months last year, adjusted for growth, is the most useful base. Our example business sells a 200 g candle in the White Matte Glass Jar (200 g is a tested fill; the jar's fill weight is not published) and an 85 g candle in the Golden Aluminium Tin, both at 8% in Luxury Soy Wax Chunks. The forecast below is an example; replace it with yours.

Then move each month's sales to the month the candles must be poured. We assume a candle needs roughly two weeks between pouring and sale for cure, labelling and dispatch — a working checkpoint, not a CSI specification. So a month's first-half sales are poured in the second half of the previous month. In an ordinary month, half the sales fall in each half. In a Diwali November, far more fall early: our example puts 80% of November's sales in its first half, because Diwali is on the 8th. December production also includes the first half of January, forecast at a quieter 250 jars and 100 tins.

Example forecast · production = second half of this month's sales + first half of next month's
Forecast sales and the production they require
Month 200 g jars sold 85 g tins sold Sales in first half Jars poured Tins poured Finished weight poured
October 400 300 50% 760 630 205.55 kg
November 700 600 80% 290 195 74.58 kg
December 300 150 50% 275 125 65.62 kg

October pours 1,390 candles — 2.0 times what it sells. (October's own first-half sales come from candles poured in late September, already on the shelf.) November pours only 485 because most of its sales were made in October. That shift is the single most important step in a festive purchasing plan: it moves the peak material requirement a month earlier than the peak sales. I'm Entering Diwali with Average Sales of 100 Candles a Week but Expect Demand to Triple — How Much Wax and Fragrance Should I Secure Beforehand? looks at the size of the Diwali jump itself.

The mistake: buying November's materials in November. A maker who orders to the sales calendar receives the Diwali wax and oils in early November, pours them in the week before the festival, and sells uncured candles or misses the peak entirely. Buying to the production calendar puts ₹3,26,417.80 of materials on the shelf in early October instead — which is the point, and also why the cash plan must allow for it.

Production into materials

Each month's production converts exactly as in a single order: units × fill weight gives finished weight; × 0.92 is wax and × 0.08 is oil at an 8% load; each has a 3% loss allowance. Wicks add 2% for defects and jars 1% for breakage — labelled working assumptions. The four festive scents share the oil 35/25/25/15. The month-by-month gross requirement is:

Gross requirement by production month · 8% load · allowances included
What each month's pour consumes
Month Wax Oil (all scents) Wicks White Matte jars Golden tins
October 194.78 kg 16.94 kg 1,418 768 630
November 70.67 kg 6.14 kg 495 293 195
December 62.19 kg 5.41 kg 408 278 125
The CSI principle
Gross need is what the pour consumes. Net need is what you buy.
Between them sit the stock you already hold and the stock you want left at month end. Skipping either turns a forecast into an overbuy or a stock-out.

The month-by-month plan

Each material runs through the same five lines each month. Net need = gross need + closing target − opening stock. The closing target is a quarter of next month's gross need — about a week of production, a working assumption that protects the start of the next month. Round net need up to packs; the rounding surplus becomes part of the closing stock and next month's opening stock. The example starts on 1 October with 15 kg of wax, a little oil, 150 wicks, 60 jars and 36 tins.

Tins · December 125 39 25 111 10 × pack of 12 ₹3,600.00 34

Notice how the pack sizes shape the plan. Wax rounds to 5 kg bags, so each month's surplus is at most a few kilos. White Matte jars come only in fives and Golden tins only in twelves, so their closing stock wanders slightly above target. Wicks are ₹5.90 each at every pack size, so the plan buys the cheapest combination of packs that covers the need. None of this changes the logic; it only means the closing stock is never exactly the target.

1
Enter opening stock for 1 OctoberA physical count, not last month's spreadsheet. Include anything already ordered and due before the pour starts.
2
Enter each month's gross needFrom the production plan, not the sales forecast.
3
Set the closing targetA quarter of next month's gross need in this example. For December, it is based on January's production.
4
Net need and packsGross + target − opening. If positive, round up to the cheapest practical packs; if zero or negative, order nothing that month.
5
Carry the closing stock forwardClosing = opening + ordered − gross. It becomes next month's opening. Recount at each month end and replace the planned figure with the real one.

Four festive oils, planned per scent

Oils are planned one scent at a time, because a surplus of one never covers a shortage of another.

The same five lines run for each oil. The pack choice matters more here, because these four festive oils behave very differently on price and stock:

Gilli Mitti (Patchouli) is flat at ₹8.96 a gram from 50 g to 1 kg, so its bottles are a handling choice. Sacred Sandal Ember is the opposite: one buyable size. Before you lock a festive forecast, check every scent's in-stock sizes on the product pages; a plan built on an out-of-stock size is a plan to substitute in a hurry. If a size you planned on goes out of stock, ask us on WhatsApp before you change the scent.

The order calendar

Each order must land before the pour it feeds, by at least its delivery time. CSI does not publish delivery times, so the figures below — 7 days for wax, 10 for oils, 14 for glass and tins — are examples; use your own. Pouring for each month is assumed to start on its first working day.

Example delivery times · order totals from the plan above · CSI listed prices
When each order goes in
Order Feeds Place by (glass/tins · oils · wax) Value
Order 1 October pour (incl. early-November Diwali sales) Now — 29 September is already late for glass on a 14-day delivery ₹3,26,417.80
Order 2 November pour (late November, early December sales) 18 Oct · 22 Oct · 25 Oct ₹1,11,795.60
Order 3 December pour (late December, early January sales) 17 Nov · 21 Nov · 24 Nov ₹93,906.40
Quarter ₹5,32,119.80

Order 1 is the tight one. On a 14-day delivery, glass and tins for an early-October pour should have been ordered mid-September. If that has slipped, split the October pour: start with the scents and containers already on the shelf, and pour the rest when the order lands. That is also why the closing-stock target exists — to give each new month a week of runway.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. It would suit us if you bought the whole quarter in one order today. The plan does not: it buys ₹3,26,417.80 now and the rest in two later orders, each sized after a recount. Festive forecasts are the least reliable forecasts of the year, and a December order placed after you have seen November's real sales will be a better order than one placed in September. Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. A supplier's festive advice is often "stock up now". This plan buys October's materials now and sizes November and December after recounts, flags an out-of-stock oil size, and chooses the cheapest per-gram bottle even where that is not the biggest.

Oil and wax prices come from live CSI listings pulled on 24 September 2026; Eco Candle Wick prices from the 25 September 2026 pull; the White Matte Glass Jar price was verified on 10 September 2026 for Blog 760; Golden tin prices from the 24–25 September 2026 catalogue pull. Production, requirements, pack roundings and costs are plain arithmetic on those figures.

The forecast, the 80% first-half share for November, the two-week pour-to-sale lead, the 25% closing target, the 200 g fill, the allowances, the opening stock and the delivery times are labelled examples. CSI does not publish delivery times or cure times. For a quote on a quarterly plan, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Frequently asked questions

How do I plan raw materials for Diwali candle production?
Forecast Diwali-period sales, move them back to the month you must pour (usually October for an 8 November Diwali), convert that production into wax, oil, wicks and containers, net off stock, and order before the pour by at least your delivery time.
What is material requirement planning for a candle business?
A month-by-month sheet per material: gross need from the production plan, opening stock, closing-stock target, net need, order in packs, and closing stock carried to the next month.
How far in advance should I buy candle supplies for the festive season?
Early enough that materials are on the shelf before the pour, not the sale. With a two-week cure-and-dispatch lead and a 14-day delivery on glass, early-November sales need glass ordered by mid-September.
How much safety stock should a three-month plan carry?
Enough to start each month without waiting. This example targets a quarter of next month's need, about a week. I Want to Maintain Two Weeks of Safety Stock for My Candle Business — How Do I Calculate the Minimum Quantity of Wax, Fragrance, Wicks and Jars I Should Never Fall Below? explains two-week floors for steadier businesses.
Should I buy three months of candle materials at once?
Usually not. Buy the first month now and size later months after recounting and checking real sales. A festive forecast made in September is least reliable for December.
Which fragrance oil size is cheapest per gram?
It varies by oil. For most CSI oils the price per gram is flat from 100 g, and 24 oils are cheaper at 1 kg. A few are odd: Saffron Cedarwood is cheapest at 500 g (₹5.17 a gram). Always check every size's per-gram price.
