Luxury Woody Fragrance Oils for Candle Making

Which woody oils sit in the luxury tier? By price per gram, the top six in stock are Lavender Oud ₹12, Amber Oud Royal ₹11.64, Santal Noir ₹9.12, Gilli Mitti ₹8.96, the brand-inspired creamy sandal ₹8.84 and the retailer-inspired teakwood ₹8.80.
What should a luxury woody candle retail at? Materials run ₹262.96 to ₹382.46 for a 200 g candle at 8% in a black matte jar. At a 3× materials multiple that is ₹788.87 to ₹1,147.37 before labour, packaging and overhead; at 4× it is ₹1,051.82 to ₹1,529.82. The multiple is your decision — the materials figure is arithmetic.
Is a dearer oil a stronger oil? Nobody has published anything that would let you say so. Price per gram reflects the materials in a composition, not its performance in your wax. Two of the dearest woody pages publish no strength statement at all.
What "luxury" can honestly mean
"Luxury" is a word customers use, not a specification anyone publishes. That leaves a supplier two options: repeat the adjective, or replace it with things a buyer can check. This guide takes the second route, and the four tests below are the ones the CSI woody range can actually be scored against. None of them is about how strong a candle smells, because no CSI page publishes a throw measurement — and a supplier who invents one has told you something about their honesty rather than their oil.
| Test | What it means on a page | Woody range | What it does not prove |
|---|---|---|---|
| Published structure | A named top, heart and base — evidence the composition develops rather than sitting still | 16 of 21 woody listings publish a full pyramid; 5 are single-note or profile-only | That the arc works in wax. Wax is not skin, and the top notes burn off first |
| Stated grade | The page naming the material class — "Fine perfume oil (concentrated)", "perfume-grade", "Single note" | Amber Oud Royal and Lavender Oud state "Fine perfume oil (concentrated)"; Mint Sandalwood and the brand-inspired sandal state perfume-grade | Anything about concentration in your candle. You still pour to the stated load |
| An honest colour warning | A page admitting its own amber, resin or vanilla content will tone light wax | Sacred Sandal Ember, Mint Sandalwood and the brand-inspired sandal each publish one | Quality. It proves composition, and it constrains your glass and label choice |
| Price per gram | What the materials in the composition cost, before anyone's margin | ₹4.5312 to ₹12 across the family — a 2.6× spread | Performance. Price is an input, not a result |
Apply all four and the picture is more interesting than a price list. Sandalwood Fragrance Oil is one of the cheapest woody grams at ₹5.0268 and publishes more verifiable specification than any oil twice its price — a measured flash point, a vanillin figure, a soy load, a paraffin load and a cure. Santal Noir at ₹9.12 publishes a full pyramid and nothing technical at all. Neither is "better"; they are documented differently, and a brand should know which kind of evidence it is buying.
The published pyramids, quoted
Here are the woody oils that publish a complete top–heart–base structure, quoted exactly, with every listed pack price and the oil cost inside a 200 g candle at 8%. Read the base line first: in a candle it is the part that survives an hour of burning, and in this family it is where the amber, sandalwood, musk and tonka live.

What a luxury woody candle costs to build
The only way to have this argument properly is with a complete bill of materials. This one is a 200 g candle at 8% on Luxury Soy Wax Chunks at ₹599 a kilo, in a black matte glass jar at ₹70.80, with a Thick (C2) Eco Candle Wick at ₹9.44 — a specification that looks and feels premium without anything exotic in it. Only the fragrance changes down the table.
| Fragrance | Oil (16 g) | Wax (184 g) | Jar + wick | Materials per candle | Fragrance share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Woody Oud | ₹72.50 | ₹110.22 | ₹80.24 | ₹262.96 | 28% |
| Royal Oud | ₹102.40 | ₹110.22 | ₹80.24 | ₹292.86 | 35% |
| Sultan’s Smoke | ₹127.84 | ₹110.22 | ₹80.24 | ₹318.30 | 40% |
| White Royal Oud | ₹129.60 | ₹110.22 | ₹80.24 | ₹320.06 | 40% |
| Santal Noir | ₹145.92 | ₹110.22 | ₹80.24 | ₹336.38 | 43% |
| Amber Oud Royal | ₹186.24 | ₹110.22 | ₹80.24 | ₹376.70 | 49% |
| Lavender Oud | ₹192 | ₹110.22 | ₹80.24 | ₹382.46 | 50% |
Half of a Lavender Oud candle's materials are the fragrance. That is the defining economic fact of this tier, and it cuts both ways. It means the fragrance decision is genuinely expensive, so it deserves a real test rather than a preference. It also means that the cheapest way to build a luxury woody candle is not a cheaper oil — it is a smaller candle. Move the same Lavender Oud into a 120 g jar and the oil drops from ₹192 to ₹115.20, without touching the fragrance the customer chose you for.
Three luxury woody oils, priced
Three oils from the upper tier, chosen because each one publishes something the others do not. Every card shows the full listed ladder, the per-kilo rate and how far each pack goes at 8%.

Pricing the candle you have just costed
Materials are the only part of this arithmetic a supplier can give you. Labour, packaging, photography, delivery, returns, platform fees and the margin you need to survive are all yours. What the table below does is show what a given multiple of materials produces, so you can see whether the fragrance you have chosen sits inside the price your brand can actually charge.
| Fragrance | Materials | 3 × materials | 4 × materials | Where it puts you |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Woody Oud | ₹262.96 | ₹788.87 | ₹1,051.82 | Entry premium — the oud a first-time luxury buyer tries |
| Royal Oud | ₹292.86 | ₹878.57 | ₹1,171.42 | Mid premium with a full pyramid and a stated cure |
| White Royal Oud | ₹320.06 | ₹960.17 | ₹1,280.22 | The modern, smokeless luxury position |
| Santal Noir | ₹336.38 | ₹1,009.13 | ₹1,345.50 | Sandalwood at a price that needs a story |
| Amber Oud Royal | ₹376.70 | ₹1,130.09 | ₹1,506.78 | Top of the range — gifting, weddings, hampers |
| Lavender Oud | ₹382.46 | ₹1,147.37 | ₹1,529.82 | Top of the range, softer and more unisex |
Two conclusions follow. The first is that the fragrance decision moves the retail price by ₹358.50 at a 3× multiple — far more than it moves the materials — so a brand that has already fixed its price point has effectively already chosen its half of the woody shelf. The second is that the lower-priced oud is not the cheap option in any meaningful sense: Woody Oud publishes a full pyramid, a stated soy load, a paraffin load and a cure, and is the only woody oil on the store with a five-star review describing its performance. At ₹262.96 of materials it supports a genuinely premium candle.
A six-fragrance luxury woody launch
Here is a complete launch, costed at the 100 g rung — the size that lets you pour six candles of each scent and photograph a full collection without committing to kilos. Six directions, no duplication, and every one of them a page that publishes a structure.
| Scent | The position it occupies | 100 g pack | 200 g candles at 8% |
|---|---|---|---|
| Amber Oud Royal | The hero — saffron, rose, oud, amber | ₹1,299 | 6 |
| Lavender Oud | The soft unisex oud — aromatic, calm | ₹1,200 | 6 |
| Santal Noir | The sandalwood — dry, ambered, not sweet | ₹919 | 6 |
| Brand-inspired creamy sandal | The saffron-sandal attar direction | ₹885 | 6 |
| White Royal Oud | The smokeless, hotel-lobby oud | ₹810 | 6 |
| Sultan’s Smoke | The traditional bakhoor smoke | ₹799 | 6 |
| Six-scent oil cost | 600 g of oil | ₹5,912 | 36 candles |
How to test a luxury claim before you buy
Every page in this tier uses the word luxury. Here is how to find out whether the oil behind it deserves the shelf, in an order that costs the least money.
First, read for the four published things. Structure, grade, colour warning, price per gram — the tests set out above. An oil that publishes all four is not automatically better, but it is easier to buy responsibly, because you know what you are handling and what it will do to white wax. Then check what is not there: Santal Noir, Sultan's Smoke and Midnight Bakhoor Royale publish no load, no cure and no flash point at all, so their first batch is entirely your experiment.
Second, buy the smallest pack that exists. In this tier that is often not small: of the ten pages with a published pyramid, only three offer a 15 g pack — Santal Noir (15g ₹166), White Royal Oud (15gm ₹130) and Dark Vanilla Oud (15 gm ₹105.02), and only the first two sit in the upper price tier. Amber Oud Royal, Lavender Oud, Sultan's Smoke and Midnight Bakhoor Royale start at 100 g, and Royal Oud and Sacred Sandal Ember start at 500 g because their smaller packs are sold out. Where the entry is 100 g, that is six 200 g candles — enough to test properly, and a real commitment.
Third, run the burn test that the page cannot run for you. Two jars per oil, identical in every respect, burned at day 7 and day 21. Record minutes to a full melt pool touching the glass, flame height, soot or mushrooming, and your own impression of the scent at 30 and 120 minutes in a closed room. That is the only evidence about strength that exists anywhere — CSI has published none, and neither has anyone else about your jar. The method is in how to test hot throw before launching a candle fragrance.
Fourth, ask for the paperwork before the kilo, not after. SDS documents and IFRA documentation are supplied on request through the WhatsApp line, along with bulk pricing and GST invoicing. A luxury brand that cannot produce a safety data sheet when a stockist asks for one has a problem that no fragrance can solve. Ask once, at quote stage, and file the documents against the batch number.
CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials and does not make or sell finished candles. A page selling you a luxury position would tell you the dearest oil smells the strongest. This one tells you that price per gram is an input and not a result, that half the materials in a ₹382.46 candle are the fragrance, and that a smaller jar is usually the better answer to a price problem.
Every price, pack and stock status is from live CSI stock in September 2026 and links to the product page. Note structures, grade descriptions, loads, cures and discolouration warnings are quoted from those pages; nothing has been added. Where a page carries the shared line "Flash point > 93°C (suitable for alcohol-based products)", that is a threshold for alcohol-based formats rather than a measured value for the oil, and it is not presented as one — only four woody pages state a measured flash point. CSI publishes no throw, projection or longevity measurements for any fragrance oil, so this guide asserts none, and where a page publishes a superlative that its own range contradicts, we flag it rather than repeat it.

Other materials: Luxury Soy Wax Chunks 1 kg ₹599 (₹0.599 a gram), Black Matte Glass Jar pack of 10 ₹708 (₹70.80 each), Eco Candle Wicks Thick (C2) 20 wicks ₹188.80 (₹9.44 each). Assumptions: load is a share of the finished candle (200 g at 8% = 184 g wax + 16 g oil; at 7% = 186 g + 14 g; a 120 g jar at 8% = 110.4 g + 9.6 g), one wick per single-wick candle, materials multiples of 3× and 4× shown for illustration only — labour, packaging, overhead and channel costs are not included and are not something a supplier can estimate. Stated page text quoted verbatim: note pyramids as shown in the table; "Fragrance Type Fine perfume oil (concentrated)" on Amber Oud Royal and Lavender Oud; "Candles (Soy/Paraffin/Blends) 10%" with "start at 7%" on Amber Oud Royal; "Candles (Soy / Paraffin / Blends) 10%" and a 72–96 hour cure before assessing cold throw on Royal Oud; "6-10% for candles" with "Use 6-7% for a refined, hotel-lobby quality warmth" on White Royal Oud; "Projection: Strong" on Sultan's Smoke and Midnight Bakhoor Royale; discolouration warnings on Sacred Sandal Ember, Mint Sandalwood and the brand-inspired sandal; measured flash points Vetiver 206°C and Sandalwood 203°C, the latter accompanied by a "highest in the range" claim its own range contradicts. Loads are formulation guidance, not regulatory limits. Prices and availability change — the linked product pages are always authoritative.
