CSI Wick Buying · The Final Third
A wick that is perfect until the final third has not been approved; it has been screened. Test to about 1 cm, and date your orders by the burn calendar: sample now, a 50-pack as the final third starts, production at the verdict.
₹472.00
C2 50-pack: the confirm order, placed as the final third starts · CSI live pricing, October 2026
Quick answers — read this first
My candle burns perfectly until the final third, then the flame gets too big. Why test the full life? Because the final third is where heat commonly builds: the glass above the pool is hot, the pool can deepen, and in a jar that narrows toward the base the same flame has less wax to work on. Your candle has just shown that the first two thirds cannot approve a wick.

When should I order production wicks, then? Against the burn calendar: test wicks now, a 50-pack of the leading wick when its three candles enter the final third clean, and the rest of the production order only at the verdict. In our worked example the 50 lands two days after the verdict and the rest four days after.

What does the first order look like? For a C2 candle that flared, the Eco C1 20-pack (₹118.00) for three down-rung candles beside three C2, plus oil, wax and jars: ₹2,064.40 from nothing if your C2 is already on the shelf.

Why not order everything now and save time? Because the wick that fails in the final third is the one you would have ordered. C1 and C2 are flat per wick, so a staged order costs nothing extra; an early one can strand ₹1,982.40 of C2 before you have seen the bottom of a single candle.
The short answer
Test the whole candle: three candles on the current wick and three one rung down, burned to about 1 cm. The final third is part of the test, not an afterthought.
Order 1, sample (day 0): C1 20-pack (₹118.00) + oil, wax and a 10-pack of 150 g jars (₹944.00).
Order 2, confirm (final third starts clean): a 50-pack of the leading wick, C2 50 (₹472.00) or C1 50 (₹295.00). Order 3, production (verdict): the rest, by the formula.
Plan with your own lead time: CSI publishes none. Measure yours once, then place the confirm order so it lands just after the verdict, never before the final third has been seen.
Order against the burn calendar, not the first good burn Worked example: 150 g Blue Ocean candles in CSI's 150 g jar, 5 g an hour, 9 three-hour sessions to the stop line, one session a day, a 4-day order-to-bench lead time (yours to measure). Day 0 = 1 October 2026. 0 3 6 9 12 13 15 17 18 19 21 day 1 Oct = day 0 verdict: all three pass to ~1 cm Sample order C1 20 + oil, wax, jars in transit Six test candles 3 C2 + 3 C1 cure 9 sessions, one a day top third middle final 3rd Gate 1 (burn 3) Confirm order leader's 50-pack in transit pour batch 1 placed as the final third starts · at most ₹472.00 at risk Production order the rest, by formula in transit full placed only after the verdict Ordered at pour arrives day 8 production wicks before burn 1 Ordered at Gate 1 arrives day 13 lands as the final third starts: the stage this candle fails order placed on evidence order placed before evidence wicks arriving before the final third is seen Confirm at the start of the final third, produce at the verdict: wicks land 2 days sooner than ordering only at the verdict, and never before the stage that failed. Day 17 is 18 October; Diwali (8 November 2026) is day 38. All durations are a worked example: measure your own grams per hour on burn 1 and your own lead time.
A worked-example calendar that starts on 1 October 2026. Sample wicks arrive on day 4; six 150 g candles cure to day 7 and burn one session a day to day 15. The confirm order (a 50-pack of the leading wick) goes in on day 13, the day the final third starts, and lands on day 17; the production order goes in at the verdict and lands on day 19. The hatched lanes show the two tempting dates, at pour and at burn 3, when wicks would arrive before the stage this candle fails. Your grams per hour and your lead time move every date; the order of events does not change.
Straight answer
My candle burns perfectly until the final third and then the flame becomes too large. Why is full-life wick testing necessary, and when should I buy?
Full-life testing is necessary because the final third is a different candle: as the wax level falls, heat stored in the glass and the remaining wax commonly builds, the pool can deepen, the flame can grow, and in a jar that narrows toward the base the same wick works on a smaller surface. A wick approved on burn 3 has been approved on the easy two thirds. So place your orders against the burn calendar. Order 1, now: the down-rung for three test candles beside three on your current wick (for a C2 candle, the C1 20-pack, ₹118.00). Order 2, the day all three of the leading set enter the final third clean: a 50-pack of that wick (C2 ₹472.00 or C1 ₹295.00), so it lands just after the verdict. Order 3, at the verdict: the rest of the production quantity by the formula. With CSI's flat per-wick prices, staging costs nothing extra, and nothing big arrives before the stage that failed.
One line: sample now, a 50-pack as the final third starts, production at the verdict; never a production order on the strength of a good first burn.
Order 1 today: the Eco C1 20-pack (₹118.00; the C1 10-pack is out of stock on 1 October 2026) and a 10-pack of 150 g jars (₹944.00). Order 2, the C2 50-pack (₹472.00), waits for the final third. Every pack named is in stock on 1 October 2026.
Eco C1 20 — ₹118.00

Why the final third decides the purchase

The top of a candle tests the wick. The bottom tests the wick, the jar and the heat they have built together.

Commonly described changes as a container candle burns down: the glass above the pool has been heated for hours and passes heat back, the remaining wax is warmer at the start of each session, the pool can run deeper, and the exposed wick can grow faster than it is trimmed. None of these is visible on burn 1. The stage-by-stage picture (what typically changes in the top, middle and final third, and what to measure in each) is the depth-stage map; this page uses it only to set dates.

The 150 g Clear Glass Jar adds one more effect worth knowing. Its page gives about 7 cm outside at the rim and about 6.5 cm at the base. On our labelled 0.35 cm wall that is 6.3 cm inside at the top and about 5.8 cm near the bottom: a pool about 15% smaller near the base (26.42 cm² against 31.17 cm²). The same wick, with the same flame, has less wax to work on and less distance to the glass. Whether a narrowing jar justifies holding a reserve of the down-rung is the narrowing-jar post; here it is simply one more reason not to approve from the top.

What each stage can and cannot approve
Three candles per wick · stop at about 1 cm (common practice) · thresholds are judgement
Stage What it shows What it cannot show Order it can release
Burn 1 Pool time to the edge, first flame Anything about depth None
Burn 3 (Gate 1) Catch-up, ring, flame stability Heat build-up, the narrowing base None beyond test wicks
Final third starts clean The wick survived the middle The last few sessions, the hottest A 50-pack confirm order
Verdict: all three to about 1 cm Flame, pool, soot and glass behaviour through the hottest stage Customer misuse (long sessions, no trim) The production order

Glass behaviour in the final third is judged by eye: how close the flame sits to the glass, soot, a pool that keeps deepening, a flame that keeps growing. Never by touching the glass. The 85°C on the jar page is a hot-pour figure, not a burn rating, and CSI lists no non-contact thermometer; if the jar itself is the worry, read the hot-jar-near-the-end post.

Mistake: calling the wick approved at burn 3 and ordering the month's wicks. Why it fails: it is exactly the decision your candle has just disproved. Fix: burn three candles to about 1 cm; the production order waits for the verdict. The detailed full-life calendar method, with grams per hour from burn 1, is the 7 cm full-life calendar post.

Turning grams per hour into order dates

Weigh burn 1 and you can date every order before you place the first.

You need four numbers, all yours: grams burned per hour (weigh the candle before and after burn 1), the grams left at your stop line (about 1 cm, weighed once on your jar), your session length, and your order-to-bench lead time. The worked example below uses figures we chose to make the arithmetic visible; replace every one.

Burn calendar · worked example · 150 g Blue Ocean candle, CSI 464, 150 g jar
All figures declared · one 3-hour session a day with a full cool-down (judgement) · day 0 = 1 October 2026
Input or result Figure Where it comes from
Grams per hour 5 g Burn 1 weighed: 15 g in 3 hours (worked example)
Left at the stop line 25 g About 1 cm, weighed on your jar (worked example)
Burnable wax 125 g 150 g minus the stop-line grams
Hours to the stop line 25.0 125 g ÷ 5 g an hour
Three-hour sessions 9 rounded up (the last one short); top third sessions 1–3, middle 4–6, final third 7–9
Lead time 4 days Your own order-to-bench time; CSI publishes none
Cure 3 days Blue Ocean page: "Cure soy wax candles for 48-72 hours before burn testing"
1
Day 0 (1 October 2026): place the sample orderDown-rung wicks, oil, wax and jars. Your current wick comes from stock.
2
Day 4: pour six candlesThree on each wick, one pot, one jar batch, labelled on the base.
3
Days 7–9: the top thirdWeigh burn 1 to confirm your grams per hour; screen at burn 3 (day 9). Nothing is ordered here.
4
Days 10–12: the middleKeep every candle burning, including the one you think will lose; a failure in the expected direction is evidence too.
5
Day 13: the final third starts, place the confirm orderIf all three of one set are clean on entering the final third, order a 50-pack of that wick. It lands on day 17.
6
Day 15: verdict, place the production orderAll three to about 1 cm with no flame, soot or heat failure. The rest of the production quantity lands on day 19.
7
Day 17: first production batchPour from the 50-pack while the main order is in transit. That is 18 October, 21 days before Diwali.

Why place the confirm order on day 13 rather than at the verdict? Because with a 4-day lead time, ordering only at the verdict puts wicks on your bench on day 19; ordering the 50 as the final third starts puts the first batch's wicks there on day 17, 2 days sooner, and still after the verdict. If your lead time is longer, the confirm order still goes in no earlier than the start of the final third; you accept the wait rather than buy before the evidence. A four-week lead time is a different inventory problem: the lead-time post.

The three orders, line by line

Three small decisions on three dates beat one big decision on the wrong one.
Order 1 · sample · day 0
Six 150 g candles at 8% Blue Ocean · smallest in-stock pack · per unit declared · CSI live pricing, 1 October 2026
Item Count needed Smallest in-stock pack Price Per unit Left over
Eco C1 (down-rung) 3 20 (10-pack out of stock) ₹118.00 ₹5.90 17
Eco C2 (your current wick) 3 from stock (a 10-pack is ₹94.40) — ₹9.44 —
Blue Ocean 72 g 100 g ₹495.00 ₹4.95 per g 28 g
Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 828 g 1 kg ₹507.40 ₹0.51 per g 172 g
Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid (150 gram) 6 10 ₹944.00 ₹94.40 4

Cash for order 1 is ₹2,064.40, or ₹2,158.80 if you also need a C2 10-pack. The six candles consume ₹1,388.95 of materials, jars included: ₹233.26 for a C2 candle and ₹229.72 for a C1 candle. Costs exclude labour, freight, packaging and GST.

Orders 2 and 3 · confirm and production
Worked example: 200 candles for Diwali · 200 × 1 × 1.05 = 210 wicks · flat per-wick price
Order When If C2 leads If C1 leads Most it can strand
2 · confirm Day 13: all three of the leader enter the final third clean C2 50-pack, ₹472.00 C1 50-pack, ₹295.00 ₹472.00 (C2) or ₹295.00 (C1)
3 · production Day 15: verdict 160 more: 100 + 50 + 10 = ₹1,510.40 160 more: 100 + 50 + 20 (170) = ₹1,003.00 Nothing: placed on evidence
All wicks for the run — 210 C2 = ₹1,982.40 see left, at ₹5.90 a wick —

Check the C2 line: 210 wicks at ₹9.44 is ₹1,982.40, and the staged packs (50 + 100 + 50 + 10) come to ₹1,982.40, the same. That is the point of flat per-wick pricing: staging the order costs nothing. If the leader stumbles in the last sessions, a confirm 50-pack of C2 is not wasted money; it is C2 for another SKU where C2 is approved, or for the next test, at the same ₹9.44 a wick.

The jars and the oil wait for the verdict too
Jars are the biggest line: 200 candles need ten 20-packs, ₹18,880.00. If no wick passes the final third in this jar, the jar is part of the question, so the jar order waits with the wicks. The oil can too: Blue Ocean is fractionally dearer per gram at 500 g and 1 kg (₹4.96) than at 100 g (₹4.95), so 2,400 g as twenty-four 100 g bottles (₹11,880.00) is ₹12.00 cheaper than two 1 kg bottles plus four 100 g (₹11,892.00). Buy it when the wick is approved, in whichever sizes suit your storage.

What ordering early costs

An early order is not faster. It is a bet placed before the result.

The two tempting dates are the day you pour and the day burn 3 looks good. For a candle whose trouble starts in the final third, both are before the only stage that matters.

Order timing compared · worked example · 4-day lead time
What arrives when, and what it stakes · C2 production for 200 candles = 210 wicks
Placed Arrives Seen by then Staked before evidence
At pour (day 4) Day 8 Nothing: burn 1 is day 7 ₹1,982.40 of C2, plus jars and oil if ordered with them
At Gate 1 (day 9) Day 13 The top third only ₹1,982.40 of C2: the stage that fails is still ahead
Confirm 50 at final-third start (day 13) Day 17 The full verdict, two days earlier At most ₹472.00
Everything at the verdict (day 15) Day 19 The full verdict Nothing; 2 days later than the staged route

The money at stake on the early lines is not certainly lost; C2 may pass on the retest. But your candle has already flared once on C2, so the early order is a bet against the one result you have. What waiting for a full-life test costs, set against the cost of a wrong bulk order, is the cost-of-waiting post; this page assumes you have accepted that trade and only need the dates.

Don't buy the big pack before day 15: not the C2 100 (₹944.00), not the 1,000 (₹9,440.00). Each costs ₹9.44 a wick, exactly what the 10 and the 50 cost. Argued against our own interest: the most you should have bought from us before the verdict is the test wicks and one 50-pack.

The production order at the verdict

At the verdict, the formula sizes the order. The calendar has already timed it.

Approval means all three candles of one wick reached about 1 cm left with no flame, soot or heat failure in the final third. Then: wicks = candles × wicks per candle × (1 + allowance), 5% in our worked example, minus what the confirm order already brought. For 200 Diwali candles that is 210 wicks, 160 after the 50-pack. Reorder later runs on daily use × your lead time + safety stock (the same formula as the cluster's pilot post).

Verdict outcomes and what each one orders
Our judgement, labelled · three candles per wick · still air · sessions as tested
Verdict Order 3 What to do with the confirm 50
C2 passes the full life on the retest (the first flare was one candle or long sessions) C2: 160 more, ₹1,510.40 Pour it first
C1 passes; C2 flares again C1: 160 more, ₹1,003.00 If you ordered C2 50, keep it for SKUs where C2 is approved
C1 under-melts early; C2 flares late Nothing: the answer is between CSI rungs Hold; WhatsApp us; consider a configuration change (5555)
Both pass The smaller wick that passes, usually; it leaves more margin late in the burn Pour it first

If both fail, there is no sized, tabbed wick between C1 and C2 at CSI, and buying more of either will not create one. That is a WhatsApp question, honestly asked. Which symptoms justify any purchase at all, and which don't, is summarised in the cluster hub; the full symptom-to-purchase tree is the cluster capstone.

Don't stock up because Diwali is close: a production order sized for Diwali and placed at the verdict is enough. Extra packs bought "for later" cost the same per wick and are exposed to every change you make in November: a new oil, a new jar batch, a load change. Argued against our own interest: buy for the run you have approved, and reorder on the formula.

Calendar items: what to buy and when to skip

Four items in the order the calendar needs them, chosen on page statements, price and stock on 1 October 2026. CSI publishes no wick-performance data, so nothing here is ranked on burn results. Oil candle counts use 12 g per 150 g candle at 8%.

Eco Candle Wicks — Thick (C2) and Thin (C1)
The two rungs in this test: C2, the wick that looked right until the final third, and C1, the down-rung. The page describes wicks of "natural fibers like cotton and paper" and, in the text we captured, states no length, width or jar range. Every C2 pack is in stock on 1 October 2026; the C1 10-pack is out of stock, so the C1 sample is the 20. Per wick, the price is flat at every pack (₹9.44 C2, ₹5.90 C1), which is what makes a staged order cheap: a 50 now and the rest later costs exactly what one big order would. Argued against our own interest: nothing beyond the test wicks should be bought before the final third starts clean.

Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid (150 gram)
CSI's 150 g jar. The page gives "outer diameter 7cm", a base of about 6.5 cm, a height of 8 cm and "Safe for hot pour up to 85°C", which is a pour figure, not a burn rating. It states no inside diameter: on our labelled 0.35 cm wall it is about 6.3 cm inside at the rim and 5.8 cm near the base, so the pool near the bottom is about 15% smaller (26.42 vs 31.17 cm²). That narrowing is one reason this jar is a fair example of "fine until the final third". Per jar the price is flat (₹94.40) in both packs. Limitation: the base figure is the page's outside measurement; measure your own jars.
Pack Price Per unit What it covers here

Blue Ocean Fragrance Oil
The oil the calendar is costed on. The page describes "sea salt and ozone top notes, jasmine and lily of the valley heart, and driftwood and musk base", states "candles (up to 10%)" and "0% vanillin - no discolouration" (the page's claim; test anyway), and its FAQ says "Cure soy wax candles for 48-72 hours before burn testing", which sets the 3-day cure in the timeline. 8% is inside both ceilings (8.70% of wax weight). A pricing fact: Blue Ocean is fractionally dearer per gram at larger sizes (100 g ₹4.95, 500 g and 1 kg ₹4.96), so for production the 100 g bottles are not a false economy.

Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 (Flakes Form) For Container Candles
The worked example's wax. The page states "Fragrance Load Up to 10%" and "Pour Temperature 80°C – 90°C"; in the 150 g jar, pour at 80–85°C because the jar's 85°C hot-pour figure is the lower limit. Price is flat at ₹0.51 a gram from 1 kg to 10 kg, so the wax order can wait for the verdict at no cost penalty.

Skip for this decision: Cotton Braided Wicks (₹120.00 for 10), a step up when the problem is too much flame late in the burn; Performance Wooden Wicks (₹590.00 for 10), a different construction and a new full-life test; and the Pen Thermometer (₹354.00) for glass: its page describes it for "the temperature of your candle wax", not for reading a jar.

Diwali is 8 November 2026, 38 days from 1 October 2026. The CSI principle
Date the order by the final third, not the first good burn.
Sample now; a 50-pack when the leader enters the final third clean; production at the verdict. Flat per-wick prices mean staging costs nothing, and nothing big arrives before the stage that failed.
"The top of the candle tells you when to keep burning. Only the bottom tells you when to buy."
— CandleMakingSuppliesIndia
Why trust this guide

CandleMakingSuppliesIndia sells the wicks, jars, oil and wax named here, and does not sell finished candles. This page still tells you to buy no production wicks until the final third passes, that staged orders cost nothing extra because our tabbed wicks are flat per wick, that Blue Ocean's bigger bottles are not cheaper per gram, and that we have no wick between C1 and C2.

Every price was verified on CSI's live store on 1 October 2026. Stock was checked per size: the Eco C1 10-pack is out of stock on that date and is flagged; every other size shown is in stock. Product wording is quoted from the pages; where a page is silent in the text we captured, we say so.

The grams per hour, stop-line grams, session length, one session a day, cure days, the 4-day lead time, the 200-candle run, the 5% allowance and the 0.35 cm wall are worked examples or judgement; CSI publishes no lead times, stock depth or wick-performance data. The heat changes described for the final third are commonly reported tendencies. Frequently asked questions

Why does my candle flame get bigger near the bottom of the jar?
Commonly because heat builds as the candle burns down: the glass above the pool is hot, the remaining wax starts each session warmer, the pool can deepen and the exposed wick can grow. In a jar that narrows toward the base, the same flame also has less wax to work on.
How long does a full burn test take?
Work it out from your own candle: weigh burn 1 for grams per hour, divide the burnable grams by it, and divide by your session length. In our worked example a 150 g candle at 5 g an hour needs 9 three-hour sessions, about nine days at one a day, after a three-day cure.
When should I order wicks for production?
After all three test candles of one wick pass the full life to about 1 cm. If time is short, order a 50-pack of the leading wick when its candles enter the final third clean, so it lands just after the verdict, and the rest at the verdict.
Is it cheaper to order all my wicks at once?
Not with CSI's Eco C1, Eco C2 or Cotton Braided: each is the same price per wick in every pack (₹5.90, ₹9.44, ₹12.00). Staging the order (a 50-pack, then the rest) costs exactly what one big order would, and keeps you from buying before the evidence.
Can I approve a candle wick after three burns?
You can screen it after three burns, not approve it. Burn 3 shows whether the pool catches up; it cannot show how the flame and heat behave in the final third, which is where your candle failed. Approve only when three candles reach about 1 cm left cleanly.
What is CSI's delivery time for wicks?
CSI dispatches from Pune and does not publish lead times or stock depth, so ask on WhatsApp before you set your calendar, and time one small order to learn your own order-to-bench days. Use that figure, not a guess, to date the confirm order.
Fine until the final third · before you order
Sample now, confirm as the final third starts, produce at the verdict.
Pour three candles on your current wick and three one rung down, weigh burn 1, and date your orders from the burn calendar and your own lead time. Ask us for a dispatch time on WhatsApp before you set the dates.

About this guide: part of CSI's cluster on tunnelling, flame, soot and melt-pool decisions (5541–5560) in the series on wick purchase × jar × wax × fragrance. It covers the purchase side of a candle that burns well until the final third: why only the full life can approve a wick, how to turn grams per hour and your own lead time into order dates, the three staged orders (sample, confirm, production) and their costs, what early ordering stakes, and the production order at the verdict.

Non-price figures: load is a percentage of total candle weight (150 g at 8% = 12 g oil + 138 g wax). Inside diameters (6.3 cm at the rim, about 5.8 cm near the base) rest on the page's outside figures and a labelled 0.35 cm wall; pool area = π r². Ceilings are as the pages state (CSI 464 up to 10%, pour 80–90°C; Blue Ocean up to 10% for candles; the jar's 85°C is a hot-pour figure): formulation and pour limits, not regulatory ones. Grams per hour, stop-line grams, session length and frequency, cure days, the lead time, the 200-candle run and the 5% allowance are worked examples; the stop at about 1 cm is common practice. Costs exclude labour, freight, packaging and GST. Diwali 8 November 2026 is a calendar fact; day numbers count from 1 October 2026.
