My Diwali Production Will Need 300 Kg of Soy Wax — How Far in Advance Should I Procure It While Protecting Against Batch Variation?
शेयर करना
How many candles is 300 kg? About 1,553 candles of 200 g at 8%, with a 5% allowance inside the 300 kg.
How do I protect against batch variation? Fewest deliveries, your own lot label on every bag, a retained sample per delivery, and a 2 + 2 lot check before release. See the five controls.
Can CSI supply 300 kg? There is no 300 kg pack. 30 × 10 kg of CSI 464 is ₹1,52,220.00; ask on WhatsApp about stock and a single delivery. No discount figure is published.
About 40 days before Diwali — which, for 8 November 2026, means order this week
"How far in advance" has no fixed answer, because it is the sum of every step between ordering wax and a customer holding a candle. So count it backwards. Diwali 2026 falls on Sunday 8 November 2026. If your last customer dispatch should leave 8 days before — an example that covers courier transit and the days customers want gifts in hand — that is Saturday 31 October 2026. Two days for packing means every candle must be cured by Thu 29 Oct. A 7-day cure checkpoint (an example; Luxury Soy Wax Chunks' product page states 48 hours minimum and ideally 1–2 weeks, and no cure time is published for CSI 464) puts the last pour on Thu 22 Oct.
Now the production itself. 300 kg of wax makes about 1,553 candles of 200 g at 8% fragrance load (184 g of wax each, plus a 5% working allowance for pour loss and tests). If your workshop pours 25 kg of wax a day — an example capacity, about 129 candles — that is 12 working days (Monday to Saturday), so the first pour is Fri 9 Oct. Allow 3 days on arrival to check the delivery against a retained sample, so the wax must be in hand by Tue 6 Oct. With the reader's one-week supplier lead time, the order should have been placed by Tuesday 29 September 2026 — 40 days before Diwali.
Today is Thursday 1 October 2026. On those assumptions you are 2 days late, which is recoverable but leaves no slack. The recovery plan below orders today, checks the delivery on arrival, and raises daily output to 30 kg so that production finishes on Thu 22 Oct. If you cannot raise output, the alternative is to start the first production days from wax you already hold while the delivery travels. Either way, the answer to the title is the same: for a 300 kg festive run, procurement starts about six weeks out, and for this Diwali that means this week.
The backward schedule, step by step
Every duration in this table is a labelled assumption. Replace each one with your own: your courier's real transit to your customers, your real packing speed, your chosen cure checkpoint, your measured daily output and your supplier's actual lead time. The dates then recalculate themselves.
| Step | Duration (example) | Must finish by | Starts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Customers have candles | — | Sunday 8 November 2026 | — |
| Courier transit + gifting lead | 8 days | Sun 8 Nov | Sat 31 Oct |
| Pack and label | 2 days | Sat 31 Oct | Thu 29 Oct |
| Cure the last pour | 7 days | Thu 29 Oct | Thu 22 Oct |
| Production: 300 kg at 25 kg/day | 12 working days | Thu 22 Oct | Fri 9 Oct |
| Incoming lot check | 3 days | Fri 9 Oct | Tue 6 Oct |
| Supplier lead time (reader's one week) | 7 days | Tue 6 Oct | Order by Tue 29 Sep |
| Date | Action | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Thu 1 Oct | Confirm quantity; place the order; ask whether 300 kg can come in one delivery | WhatsApp CSI for stock across 10 kg (and Soy Pearl 50 kg) bags |
| Thu 1 Oct – Wed 7 Oct | Prepare: labels, jars, wicks, oil; set aside retained sample of the approved lot | Oil for 300 kg is about 26.1 kg at 8% |
| Thu 8 Oct | Delivery arrives (example 7 days); label every bag with your own lot label | CSI publishes no lot numbers |
| Thu 8 Oct – Sat 10 Oct | Lot check: 2 + 2 candles vs retained sample; 48 h; one burn | Release or hold — see lot testing · release counts |
| Mon 12 Oct – Thu 22 Oct | Production: 10 working days at 30 kg/day | At 25 kg/day it would end Sat 24 Oct — 2 days late |
| Fri 23 Oct – Thu 29 Oct | Cure the final batches | Example 7-day checkpoint |
| Fri 30 Oct – Sat 31 Oct | Pack and dispatch | Last dispatch Sat 31 Oct |
Protecting 300 kg against batch variation
The second half of the question is about batch variation: the risk that wax delivered in October behaves differently from the wax you approved in July. CSI publishes no lot numbers, certificates of analysis or batch-consistency data for its waxes, and this page will not pretend otherwise. What you can do is reduce how many lots you mix, make every lot traceable with your own labels, keep a physical reference sample, and check each delivery against it before it reaches production.
| Control | Why it helps | What it costs |
|---|---|---|
| Fewest deliveries | Each separate delivery is a possible new lot; one delivery is the simplest case | Cash up front; ask CSI whether one delivery is possible |
| Your own lot label on every bag | Order date + delivery date + bag number lets you trace a problem candle to a bag | A marker pen and a batch sheet |
| Retained sample per delivery | A 250 g sealed reference lets you compare later bags and later complaints | ₹126.85 of CSI 464 per delivery |
| Lot check on arrival | 2 + 2 candles against the retained sample of the approved lot | ₹896.80 in oil, wicks and jars per delivery |
| Segregate until checked | A doubtful delivery cannot contaminate a batch it never enters | Shelf space for a HOLD area |
If one delivery is not possible, split the order into as few tranches as you can, each large enough to finish a run of SKUs. Two tranches of 150 kg — one ordered today, one a week later — are easier to control than six of 50 kg. Run each SKU from one tranche where possible, so that if a lot does behave differently, the difference appears between SKUs rather than inside one. Whether to test every lot before mixing it into production goes into the per-lot decision in detail, and what to record for every delivery gives the record format.
The lot check: 2 + 2 candles on the day the wax arrives
This is a short confirmation, not a qualification — the wax is the one you already approved, so you are looking for a difference, not proving suitability. The control is your retained sample from the approved lot (or, if you kept none, a finished candle from your last approved batch, noting its age). Two candles from the retained sample, two from the new delivery, same oil lot, same wick, same jar, same day. Two of each is a labelled working practice for a routine check; scale it up if anything looks wrong.
| Line | Retained sample (control) | New delivery | Release rule |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bag condition, colour, odour | ___ | ___ | No difference you cannot explain |
| Tops and glass after cooling | ___ | ___ | Within your cosmetic standard |
| Time to full melt pool, first burn | ___ min | ___ min | A big difference is a flag |

| Item | Need | Buy | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wax (from delivery + retained sample) | 772.8 g | — | ₹0.00 |
| Cinnamon Vanilla Fragrance Oil | 67.2 g | 1 × 100 g | ₹483.80 |
| Eco Candle Wicks Thin C1 | 4 + 2 spare | 1 × 10 | ₹59.00 |

| Kit total per delivery | ₹896.80 |
The full festive order, priced
Here is what 300 kg of production actually needs from CSI, priced with listed bags. The oil is matched to the wax: at 8% of finished weight, every 184 g of wax carries 16 g of oil, so 300 kg of wax (which already includes the 5% allowance) needs about 26.1 kg of oil.
| Item | Need | Buy | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 | 300 kg | 30 × 10 kg | ₹1,52,220.00 |
| Cinnamon Vanilla Fragrance Oil | 26.09 kg | 26 × 1 kg + 1 × 100 g | ₹1,18,908.60 |
| Eco Candle Wicks Thin C1 | 1,553 | 1 × 1,000 + 1 × 500 + 1 × 50 + 1 × 10 | ₹9,204.00 |
| White Matte Glass Jar | 1,553 | Packs of 5 (₹354.00) | ₹1,10,094.00 |
| Materials, excluding labour, packaging, freight and GST | ₹3,90,426.60 |
Per candle, that is ₹93.36 of wax, ₹72.88 of oil, ₹5.90 for the wick and ₹70.80 for the jar: ₹242.94 in materials. The wax is about 39% of the order — which is why a delay or a doubtful lot of wax is so expensive: it holds up an order whose other materials are already paid for. Cinnamon Vanilla does carry a small per-gram step at the bigger sizes (₹4.84 a gram at 100 g, ₹4.55 at 1 kg), so festive oil is one place where the 1 kg bottle earns its keep.

The decision rule: order date, quantity, delivery split
| Decision | Rule | This example |
|---|---|---|
| Order date | Diwali − (dispatch lead + pack + cure + production + lot check + supplier lead) | Tue 29 Sep; today is recoverable at 30 kg/day |
| Quantity | Candles × wax per candle, with tests and loss already inside | 300 kg ≈ 1,553 candles |
| Wax | Only the wax already approved for these SKUs | CSI 464 (or Soy Pearl, if that is your approved wax) |
| Deliveries | As few as possible; one if available | Ask CSI on WhatsApp; else two tranches |
| Release | Each delivery passes a 2 + 2 lot check against the retained sample | ₹896.80 per delivery |
| Records | Own lot label on every bag; retained sample per delivery | 250 g sealed, labelled, stored cool |
For the maker in this example the concrete actions today are: order Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464, 30 × 10 kg (₹1,52,220.00) and the Cinnamon Vanilla, ask on WhatsApp for a single delivery, set aside a retained sample of the approved lot, and book the production calendar at 30 kg a day from Mon 12 Oct. If you cannot run 30 kg a day, start the first two production days from wax already in stock so that the final pour still lands by Thu 22 Oct.
