Wax, load and heat produce the same oily surface. Put each on its own axis — two waxes, four loads, a workshop arm and a route arm — and the pattern of the blot scores tells you which one to change.
₹5,949.04
materials for a 20-candle wax × load × heat grid · CSI live pricing, re-checked 1 October 2026
Quick answers — read this first
Is it the wax, the load or the heat? Test all three at once, each on its own axis. An unscented candle that sweats in heat implicates the wax; wetness rising with load implicates the load; the same pattern at home implicates neither heat nor courier.

How many candles? 20: two waxes × 0%, 6%, 8%, 10% × workshop and route arms, with the 8% candle doubled for a burn check.

How do I measure sweat? Blot with one square of tissue, score 0–3 at 0 h, 24 h and 7 days, and weigh the candle before and after. See the grid sheet.

What does it cost? ₹5,949.04 in CSI materials for Chunks vs Soy Pearl with Bergamot Amber. See the kit.
The short answer
Answer: Run a grid: two waxes × four loads (including unscented) × workshop vs logged-route arm. The blot pattern names the owner — wax, load or exposure.
Why: The same mechanism — oil migrating out of warm soy wax — produces the same sweat whichever factor is decisive, so only an independent-variation test separates them.
Method: 20 candles, one oil lot, same jar and wick; blot 0–3 at 0 h, 24 h, 7 days; weigh; burn the 8% candles against their workshop twins.
Who owns the sweat? Read the grid across, down and between arms Example: Luxury Soy Wax Chunks vs Natural Soy Pearl · Bergamot Amber · 200 g jar · blot score 0–3 in every box 0% unscented 0 g oil + 200 g wax 6% load 12 g oil + 188 g wax 8% load 16 g oil + 184 g wax 10% load 20 g oil + 180 g wax Chunks · R workshop blot: ___ blot: ___ blot: ___ blot: ___ Chunks · M logged route blot: ___ blot: ___ blot: ___ blot: ___ Soy Pearl · R workshop blot: ___ blot: ___ blot: ___ blot: ___ Soy Pearl · M logged route blot: ___ blot: ___ blot: ___ blot: ___ wax ↓ Unscented column wet in M → the wax + the heat own it, whatever the oil. Wetness rises left to right in M only → the load owns it; find the last dry column. Same pattern in R and M → not the courier: storage, cure or the wax–oil pairing at that load.
Every box is one candle with a blot score. Reading across a row shows the effect of load; reading down between the two waxes shows the wax; comparing the workshop (R) and logged-route (M) rows shows the exposure. The unscented column is the key: if it is wet in M, the oil cannot be the cause. Scores are blank because CSI publishes no sweating data — the grid is filled in by your test.
Straight answer
My soy candle surface sweats after sitting in a hot courier vehicle — how do I determine whether the problem is the wax, fragrance load or temperature exposure?
Vary all three in one test, each against a twin — the pattern of wet and dry candles names the owner. Pour your candle in two waxes (the example uses Chunks and Natural Soy Pearl), at 0%, 6%, 8% and 10% fragrance, and keep one of every combination in the workshop while its twin goes through your logged route conditions. Blot every surface with tissue and score it 0–3 at 0 h, 24 h and 7 days. If the unscented candle sweats in the route arm, the wax and the heat own it. If the unscented candle is dry but wetness climbs with load in the route arm only, the load owns it — drop to the last dry rung. If the pattern is the same at home and on the route, the courier was not the cause; look at cure and the wax–oil pairing. The 20-candle kit costs ₹5,949.04, and the cheapest likely fix — a lower load — saves ₹21.75 of oil per candle.
One line: put the wax, the load and the heat on separate axes; the unscented column and the workshop row do the diagnosing.
The three-factor sweat test on this page — Luxury Soy Wax Chunks and Natural Soy Pearl Wax, each unscented and at 6%, 8% and 10% Bergamot Amber, in a workshop arm and a logged-route arm — is 20 candles and costs ₹5,949.04 in CSI materials. It tells you whether the wax, the load or the heat owns the sweat before you change any of them.
Buy Natural Soy Pearl Wax

You find out by changing one of the three at a time — in one test

A sweating candle is a three-suspect case. Interviewing one suspect at a time takes three summers.

Oil on the surface of a soy candle after a hot vehicle is a familiar sight, and every maker has a favourite culprit. Some blame the wax, some the fragrance load, some the courier. Each of them is sometimes right. The trouble is that the three are tangled together in a single sweating candle: the wax holds the oil, the load decides how much oil there is to hold, and the heat decides how hard the wax has to work. Change the wax and the load at the same time and a cleaner candle tells you nothing about which change fixed it. Change only the wax and see no improvement, and you may have missed that the load was the problem all along.

The way out is a small factorial test. Pour the same candle in two waxes, at four loads from unscented to your upper rung, and expose half of every combination to your logged route conditions while the other half stays in the workshop. Then blot every surface with one sheet of tissue and score it. Because every candle has a twin that differs in exactly one thing, the pattern of wet and dry boxes points at the owner: an unscented candle that sweats in heat implicates the wax and the heat; wetness that climbs with load implicates the load; a pattern that is the same at home and on the route says the courier was never the cause.

Nothing in this page is a CSI measurement. CSI publishes no sweating, oil-retention or heat data for any wax, and no fragrance ceiling at all for Natural Soy Pearl Wax — so its 10% rung is a labelled test level within the general practice range of 6–10%, not a specification. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks's product page states up to 13%, so all four of its rungs sit inside its ceiling. The page tells you how to run the test and how to read it; your blot sheets decide.

The CSI principle
When three things could cause one symptom, change each alone against a twin. The pattern names the cause.
Wax, load and exposure each get their own axis in the test. A single 'better' candle with all three changed proves nothing.

Why oil appears on a warm soy surface

In general candle-making terms, fragrance oil sits dispersed in the set wax rather than chemically bonded to it. As soy wax warms, it softens, its crystal structure loosens, and oil that was held comfortably at room temperature can migrate towards the surface. More oil in the candle generally means more oil available to migrate. A wax that holds a particular oil less readily, a cure that did not finish, or a long exposure can each tip the balance. Cooling afterwards does not necessarily pull the oil back in, which is why a sweat often outlasts the heat that caused it.

That description is why the three suspects cannot be separated by reasoning alone. The same mechanism produces the same droplets whether the wax, the load or the heat was decisive. Only a design that varies each independently tells them apart. Oil droplets after a warm room is the slower, storage-side version of the same question, and humid Chennai and Mumbai routes covers surface moisture that can look like sweat but is not oil at all.

Read your blot sheets against these patterns · general practice, not CSI data
The diagnosis matrix: which pattern points to which owner
Pattern in the blot scores Points to What to change first What not to change
Unscented candle wet in M, dry in R The wax under that heat Test another wax or blend — 5422 The oil — it is not in that candle
Unscented dry; wetness rises with load in M only Load under heat Lower the load to the last dry rung The wax, until the lower load is tried
Unscented dry; scented wet in R and M alike Wax–oil pairing or cure, not heat Cure checkpoint, then another oil or wax The courier
Only one wax wet at the same load and arm That wax with that oil Move to the dry wax — confirm with a burn The load, if the other wax is dry at it
Both waxes wet at every scented load in M Exposure is too hard for this oil Packing, dispatch timing; re-log the route Wax — both behave alike
Nothing wet in M, customer still reports sweat Your M arm is milder than reality Log more parcels; 5424 Anything, until you have real data
Wiping the surface and calling it fixed. A maker wipes the oil off, the candle looks fine, and it ships. The oil came from inside the candle; the next warm day brings more, and a wiped candle has also lost some of the fragrance it was meant to throw. Fix: treat a blot as a measurement, not a clean-up. Record its score, keep the sheet, and fix the cause the grid points to.

The test design: 2 waxes × 4 loads × 2 arms

Each wax gets 10 candles: one per arm at 0%, 6% and 10%, and two per arm at 8%, your working load, so that one 8% candle per arm can be burned later. The workshop arm (R) stays home, packed as you ship. The logged-route arm (M) goes through the conditions you measured with a min/max thermometer or data logger in a real parcel — or, until you have that log, an example condition such as a closed chamber or closed car at about 40–45°C for 6 hours. Every candle is the same 200 g jar with the same wick, poured on the same day from one oil lot.

Pour all twenty on one dayBoth waxes, all four loads, same oil lot, same wick, same jar, same pour sequence. Follow each wax maker's temperature guidance — CSI's Chunks page gives fragrance addition at 80–90°C; the Soy Pearl page publishes no temperatures, so ask CSI on WhatsApp and record what you used.
2
Cure to one checkpointSame checkpoint for every candle — 48 hours, 7 days or 14 days are the labelled examples used in CSI's guides. A candle still curing can sweat for reasons that have nothing to do with heat.
3
Blot every candle before exposureOne square of tissue, pressed flat for five seconds, photographed on a dark background. Any candle already wet at this point is telling you about cure or load, not heat.
4
Expose M, keep R packed at homePack both arms exactly as you ship. Only M goes into the logged conditions. No flame, no kitchen oven, no heater aimed at the box.
5
Blot again at 0 h, 24 h and 7 daysScore 0 (dry) to 3 (wet patch, droplets visible). The 7-day blot catches oil that keeps rising after the heat has gone.
6
Burn one 8% candle per wax per armLight the M-arm 8% candle beside its R twin. Surface oil can change the first burn — a wet top can flare or soot. Record flame, soot and jar reading against the twin.
Weigh the candle as well as the tissue
Weigh every candle to 0.1 g before exposure and after the 7-day blot. A candle that has lost weight has lost something — oil to the surface and the tissue, or fragrance to the air. Weight loss that rises with load in the M arm is the same story as the blot scores, told in grams.

The blot sheet: twenty candles on one page

The test is not the heat. The test is the sheet you fill in afterwards.

Use one sheet for the whole grid so that the pattern is visible at a glance. Fill in each box with the blot score at 0 h / 24 h / 7 days. The pass rule is written before the test: for example, "no blot above 1 at 7 days in the M arm at the working load", as your own working limit.

Weight change, M arm (g) ___ ___ ___ ___ ___
Burn vs R twin (8% only) — — flame / soot / jar — —

Read it in three directions. Across a row tells you about load. Down a column between the two waxes tells you about the wax at that load. Between the R and M rows of the same wax tells you about exposure. The answer is rarely all or nothing — a common outcome is that one wax is dry to 8% in M and wet at 10%, and the other is wet from 6%. That is a clear result: the first wax at 8% is the candidate, and the 10% rung has told you where the headroom ends.

Testing only the hot arm. Without the R row, a wet 10% candle in M could be a heat problem or a candle that would have sweated anyway. Fix: every M candle has an R twin, packed identically, kept home. It doubles the candle count for one reason: it is the only way to know the courier did it.

The priced test kit

Grams use CSI's convention: oil = 200 g × load, wax = the rest. Across both waxes, the scented candles take 256 g of oil; with a 5% pour-loss allowance (a working assumption) that is 268.8 g. Each wax needs 1,872 g, or 1,965.6 g with the allowance.

The oil line is cheapest as 2 × 100 g + 1 × 50 g + 2 × 15 g (₹1,610.04) — three 100 g bottles would be ₹1,680.00. Chunks come out cheapest as 500 g bags (₹598.00 a kilo against ₹599.00 for the 1 kg bag). Soy Pearl starts at a 1 kg bag, so two bags cover the test with a little to spare. If you already hold your current wax, subtract its line.

What each answer costs per candle

The grid's answer usually lands in one of three places: lower the load, change the wax, or change the exposure. Here is what the first two do to a 200 g candle's material cost at production packs (wax 5 kg, Bergamot Amber 1 kg, ₹5.90 wick, ₹70.80 jar; labour, packaging, freight and GST excluded).

200 g candle · material cost only · wax 5 kg rate, oil 1 kg rate
Cost per candle by wax and load
Load Oil per candle Chunks candle Soy Pearl candle Difference
6% ₹65.24 ₹254.56 ₹221.81 ₹32.75
8% ₹86.99 ₹273.91 ₹241.86 ₹32.05
10% ₹108.74 ₹293.26 ₹261.90 ₹31.36

Two things stand out. Dropping from 8% to 6% saves ₹21.75 of oil per candle in either wax — ₹5,437.00 a month at an example 250 candles — so if the grid says the load owns the sweat, the fix pays you. And Soy Pearl is ₹32.05 cheaper per 8% candle than Chunks at these pack sizes. That is a price fact, not a performance claim: a cheaper wax that sweats in your M arm is not cheaper once you count the returns.

If the grid says: Chunks at 6% · 250 candles a month · 5% pour-loss allowance
A month's order after a load fix
Item Need Buy Price
Chunks at 6% 49,350 g 9 × 5 kg + 4 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g ₹29,650.00
Bergamot Amber at 6% 3,150 g 6 × 500 g + 1 × 100 g + 1 × 50 g ₹17,148.00
(was) Bergamot Amber at 8% 4,200 g 8 × 500 g + 2 × 100 g ₹22,864.00
Soy Pearl at 6% (if the grid points to it) 49,350 g 1 × 50 kg ₹21,240.00
Argued against our own interest, plainly. If your grid says the load owns the sweat, the cheapest fix is to buy less fragrance oil from us, not a different wax. We would rather you knew that than bought 10 kg of a wax that sweats just the same at your old load. And Soy Pearl's lower price is not evidence that it holds Bergamot Amber better or worse than Chunks; we have no data either way.

The decision rule

Apply after the 7-day blot and the 8% burns · working decision rule
What to change, and what to buy
Grid result Decision Purchase
Load owns it: dry at 6% in M for your current wax, wet at 8% Drop to 6% after a throw check Your current wax; oil at the lower rate — see the month's order above
Wax owns it: unscented Chunks wet in M, Soy Pearl dry at 8% Move to Soy Pearl after a full burn and wick check Soy Pearl 5 kg pilot (₹2,124.00), then 10 kg bags
Wax owns it the other way round Stay on Chunks Chunks 5 kg bags (₹2,995.00 each — ₹9.00 cheaper per 10 kg than the 10 kg bag)
Exposure owns it: both waxes wet in M at every scented load Fix packing and dispatch; re-log No new wax — test packaging and re-run the simulation
No pattern; scores noisy Repeat with more candles at 8% Another set at the working load only

A lower load must still throw. If the 6% candle passes the blot but fails your blind throw test against the 8% twin, you have a real trade-off, and the hot throw versus heat tie-break shows how to weigh it. If the answer is a wax change, the hub's full qualification adds the margin arm and the 100 kg maths, and Rajasthan summer approval extends the M arm for long, hot routes.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. Sweating is a problem where a supplier is tempted to blame the customer's load or sell a new wax. We publish no sweating or heat data for any wax, so the grid on this page is designed to be neutral: it can just as easily tell you to buy less fragrance oil from us as to change wax.

Every wax price is CSI live pricing, re-checked 1 October 2026; Bergamot Amber prices are from the 24 September 2026 pull; wick, jar and tissue prices are as verified on 10 September and 24–25 September 2026. Candle splits, per-candle costs, monthly quantities and pack rounding are arithmetic, shown to two decimals. Product-page statements are attributed to CSI's product pages.

The four loads, two arms, candle counts, blot scale, 7-day reading, example 40–45°C / 6 hour condition, 250-candle month and 5% pour loss are labelled working practices and examples. Soy Pearl's 10% rung is a test level, not a ceiling. For a test kit, bulk quote, GST invoicing or MSDS, WhatsApp +91 7397976926.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my soy candle sweat oil in summer?
Warm soy wax softens and can release fragrance oil it held at room temperature. Whether your wax, your load or the heat is decisive is what an unscented control and a load ladder, tested in and out of heat, will show.
Does too much fragrance oil cause soy candles to sweat?
It can — more oil means more available to migrate. The test is whether sweating rises with load while the unscented candle stays dry. If it does, lower the load to the last dry rung and check throw.
How do I test a candle for sweating?
Press a square of tissue on the surface for five seconds, photograph it, score it 0–3, and repeat at 0 h, 24 h and 7 days after exposure. Weigh the candle before and after as a second measure.
Can I wipe off fragrance oil sweating on a candle and still sell it?
Wiping removes what is on the surface, not the cause; more can rise on the next warm day. Fix the cause the test points to before you ship.
What is the maximum fragrance load for Natural Soy Pearl wax?
CSI publishes no ceiling for it. This page uses 10% only as a labelled test level within the general 6–10% practice range. Ask CSI on WhatsApp for the wax maker's guidance.
Will a different soy wax stop my candles sweating?
Only if the wax owns the problem. If the unscented candle stays dry and the sweat rises with load, a new wax at the same load may sweat just the same.

Non-price figures and assumptions: CSI convention: load is a share of the finished candle (200 g at 6% = 12 g oil + 188 g wax; 8% = 16 g + 184 g; 10% = 20 g + 180 g). CSI publishes no heat-survival, softening or sweating data for any wax. Route temperatures are the reader's own logged readings; chamber, closed-car and cycle conditions are labelled example test conditions, not specifications or claims that any wax survives them. Blot scale, reading times, candle counts, 250-candle month and 5% pour loss are labelled working practices. CSI publishes no sweating, oil-retention or melt data for Chunks or Soy Pearl. Material costs exclude labour, packaging, freight and GST.
