Should I Buy One Large Wax Melter or Two Smaller Melters If I Regularly Produce Multiple Candle Fragrances?
शेयर करना
When is one 20 kg better? When one fragrance regularly fills most of the tank — about 95 candles of 200 g — so it stays a single batch.
How much more do two cost? ₹21,240.00 × 2 = ₹42,480.00, which is ₹16,520.00 more than one 20 kg unit at ₹25,960.00.
Can I start with one? Yes. Buy one 10 kg first, log a month, and add the second only if jars regularly wait on wax.
Same 20 kg, very different days
On paper the choice looks like a question of capacity, and on capacity it is a draw: CSI's 20 kg Electric Wax Melter holds as much as two of its 10 kg units. The difference is in how that capacity is divided. One tank can hold one fragrance at a time. Two tanks can hold two, can run out of step with each other, and can keep working if one of them is out of action. Whether that is worth paying for depends almost entirely on the size of your typical fragrance run.
| Setup | Working | Total |
|---|---|---|
| One 20 kg melter | ₹25,960.00 | ₹25,960.00 |
| Two 10 kg melters | ₹21,240.00 × 2 | ₹42,480.00 |
| Difference | ₹42,480.00 − ₹25,960.00 | ₹16,520.00 |
| One 20 kg + Mini 1 litre melter | ₹25,960.00 + ₹2,360.00 | ₹28,320.00 |
| One 10 kg + Mini 1 litre melter | ₹21,240.00 + ₹2,360.00 | ₹23,600.00 |
So the second tank costs you ₹16,520.00 over the single large unit. The rest of this page is about whether your fragrance pattern gives that money a job.
Your fragrance run size decides it
Log one month of production by fragrance. For each production day, write down which fragrances you poured and how many candles of each. Convert each run to scented wax with the usual formula — candles × fill weight ÷ 0.95 — and look at the typical size. Three patterns come up again and again.
Pattern one: one big scent and a few small ones
If one fragrance regularly fills most of a 20 kg tank — 95 candles of 200 g is 19 kg in the jars and 20 kg prepared (19 ÷ 0.95) — the single large tank is the natural fit. It turns your bestseller into one batch rather than two. That matters for consistency: two 10 kg tanks of the same fragrance are two separate weighings of 9.2 kg wax and 0.8 kg oil, two addition temperatures and two chances to differ. The smaller scents can go through a Mini melter or small vessels on the side.
Pattern two: several mid-sized runs
Take a day of four fragrances: 45, 45, 30 and 30 candles of 200 g. Prepared wax per run is about 9.5 kg, 9.5 kg, 6.3 kg and 6.3 kg. Every run fits a 10 kg tank. In a single 20 kg tank, each is its own batch, less than half full, followed by a clean — four cycles back to back. With two 10 kg tanks, the day becomes two cycles per tank, running in parallel and staggered so one is pouring while the other is melting. This is the pattern where two smaller melters genuinely earn their extra cost.
Pattern three: many small runs
If most runs are 10–20 candles, neither melter is the right tool for them. Two to four kilograms of scented wax in a 10 kg tank is a lot of surface to clean for very few candles. Here, the answer is one melter for the unscented base, and smaller vessels for scenting each fragrance, which is its own question — see the page on separate scenting vessels in this series.
| Typical run (200 g candles) | Prepared wax per run | Better fit | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| 75–95 candles, one or two scents | 15.8–20 kg | One 20 kg | One batch instead of two for the same fragrance |
| 30–50 candles, three to five scents | 6.3–10.5 kg | Two 10 kg | Parallel, staggered batches; no half-full tank |
| Mix of one large and several small | 20 kg + 2–4 kg runs | One 20 kg + small vessel | Bestseller in bulk, others on the side |
| Mostly 10–20 candles | 2.1–4.2 kg | One 10 kg + small vessels | Melt base once, scent separately |
Things that tip the balance
Downtime. With two units, a tank being cleaned, or out of action, does not stop production. With one, it does. If you have committed delivery dates, that resilience has real value.
Heat and time. A 20 kg mass holds heat longer than a 10 kg mass. That helps when you are pouring 95 candles from it, because the batch stays workable longer. It costs you time at the start of each batch, while the larger volume comes down to the wax maker's stated fragrance-addition temperature. The product page states approximately 30 minutes for 10 kg of soy wax at 100°C in the 10 kg unit; there is no published figure for the 20 kg, so time it yourself.
Cleaning. Every fragrance change means emptying and cleaning a tank. Two tanks means two to clean, but each only once or twice a day. One tank used for four fragrances means four cleans on the critical path, each holding up the next batch.
Power and space. Two melters need two suitable sockets, ideally on circuits that are not shared with other heating equipment, and twice the bench space. Check each unit's rating plate before installing. If your workshop cannot give two units a safe, stable position, that settles the question.
Cross-contamination. Strong, heavy scents leave more behind in a tank than light ones, however carefully you wipe. Two tanks let you dedicate one to heavier woods and gourmands and the other to fresh and floral scents, so a lavender batch never follows an oud in the same steel. With one tank, you manage the same risk by sequencing — light fragrances early, heavy ones last — and by accepting a more thorough clean whenever that order has to break. Neither approach is wrong; the two-tank version is simply easier to keep right on a busy day.
Where growth leads. Think one step ahead. If your range is expanding and you expect more fragrances at similar volumes, two 10 kg tanks today become three tomorrow without changing how the workshop runs. If you expect one or two scents to take over most of your sales, the 20 kg tank is the unit you will add to. Buy the first melter in the direction your sales are already moving, not the direction you hope they will.
A low-regret buying order
Buying one 10 kg unit and adding a second later costs the same ₹42,480.00 in the end as buying two at once, but it lets a month of real production tell you whether the second one is needed. That is the cheapest insurance you can buy against the wrong purchase.
Floor space is part of the price too. Two units need room to be filled, emptied and cleaned without anyone reaching across hot wax, and a clear path from each tank to the pouring table. Measure that space before ordering; a second tank squeezed into a corner is slower and less safe than the single larger one it was meant to improve on.
Whatever you decide, write each tank's fragrance, batch weights and addition temperature on the batch sheet every time it is filled. With two tanks, the sheet is what tells you which candles came from which one; with a single tank, it is what proves each fragrance change started from a clean, correctly weighed batch.
