Five stages, one reference candle, real CSI pack prices at each. What the monthly spend is, what the per-candle cost is, what equipment you need, how much space it eats, and what actually stops you from going further. Including the number most suppliers would rather you did not work out.
₹2.73
the entire per-candle material saving between making 10 candles and making 5,000 a month · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
Can one supplier take me from 10 candles to 5,000 a month? On the CSI range, yes for four of the five stages and most of the fifth. Wax runs 500g → 10kg (50kg on one wax), wicks 10 → 1,000, fragrance 15g → 1kg, glass to packs of 100. Past that: WhatsApp, and eventually a mill.

Does my per-candle cost fall as I scale? Barely. On our reference 150g candle it goes from ₹238.20 to ₹235.47 — a 1.1% fall across a 500× increase in volume. CSI per-kg pricing is flat on most waxes and flat on eco wicks at every pack size.

So where does margin at scale come from? Not from cheaper inputs — from consistency, waste reduction and pricing. Cutting a 5% scrap rate at 1,000 units a month saves ₹11,773.50, over four times the total available scale discount.

What must stay identical at every stage? A documented recipe per SKU — wax, load, temperatures, stir time, wick, vessel, cure days. It is the only thing that makes a candle that worked at 10 units still work at 5,000.
The short answer
The five stages: 10 candles (₹2,680.40 of materials), 50/month (₹11,926.80), 200/month (₹48,844), 1,000/month (₹2,36,488), 5,000/month (₹11,77,366). Same recipe throughout, on Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464.
What changes: pack sizes, melt equipment, storage and cure space, and cash tied up. What does not change: the recipe, the 14–21 day cure, the physics of the melt pool, and — almost entirely — the per-candle material cost.
Where CSI's depth ends: 10kg on most waxes (50kg only on Natural Soy Pearl Wax), 1kg on fragrance oils, 100 on the deepest glass packs. Above that, raise it on WhatsApp — and be honest that a mill may serve you better.
Per-candle material cost across the five stages — drawn to true scale from ₹0 ₹250 ₹125 ₹0 ₹238.20 ₹236.02 ₹235.52 ₹235.47 ₹235.47 10 candles 50 / month 200 / month 1,000 / month 5,000 / month the floor: ₹235.47 — reached at 1,000 / month Total fall across all five stages: ₹2.73 · 1.1%
Material cost of one 150g soy container candle: 138g CSI 464, 12g Lavender at 8%, one Eco Wick C1, one sticker, one 150g clear glass jar. The bars start at ₹0 deliberately: a chart starting at ₹230 would make this look like a steep decline. At true scale it is a flat line, and that flatness is the argument of this page.
Straight answer
Which supplier can carry you from your first 10 candles all the way to commercial production?
One whose pack ladder is continuous. On the CSI range that runs 500g → 1kg → 5kg → 10kg on CSI 464 and Luxury Soy Chunks, out to 50kg on Natural Soy Pearl Wax, 10 → 1,000 on Eco Candle Wicks, 15g → 1kg across 92 fragrance oils, and up to 100 on the deepest glass packs. That covers four stages outright and most of the fifth; beyond it you raise the volume on WhatsApp, and past a point a mill serves you better. But the part that matters more than the ladder: per-candle material cost falls from ₹238.20 to ₹235.47 across a 500× increase in volume. Materials do not get meaningfully cheaper at scale. What a continuous supplier saves you is the supplier change at the moment you can least afford one — the requalification, the re-testing, the batch of 1,000 that burns differently. Related: one supplier for everything and scaling to 1,000 orders a month.
One line: the pack sizes, the equipment and the space change at every stage — the recipe, the cure and the per-candle cost do not, which is why margin at scale comes from consistency and pricing, never from cheaper wax.
Every figure on this page is built on one reference candle: 150g of CSI 464 at an 8% fragrance load, well inside the wax maker's stated 10% ceiling. ₹260 for 500g to start, ₹5,074 for 10kg when you are running.

The five stages on one table

Nobody plans the jump from 200 candles a month to 1,000. One retailer says yes, and then you find out what your workshop can and cannot do.

Everything below uses one candle: a 150g soy container candle — 138g Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464, 12g Lavender Fragrance Oil at 8%, one Eco Candle Wick Thin (C1), one wick sticker, one Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid, 150g. All prices CSI live, September 2026. Monthly spend is whole packs, overage included; per-candle cost is what one candle consumes at the rate you paid. Neither includes labour, packaging, freight, fees or GST.

Look at the second column. The deepest pack you buy stops changing after stage 3. Stages 4 and 5 are not deeper packs — they are more of the same pack: 14 wax bags becomes 69, 10 jar cartons becomes 250. That single fact explains the flat curve better than any argument on this page.

What each stage actually looks like

Each block is a real shopping list at real CSI prices. Per-candle figures use the blended unit rate you actually pay at that stage, which is why stage 1 is dearest — and why small packs are still the right buy there.

Your first 10 candles
Smallest packs that cover ten pours, and expect to waste some. Do not buy the 10kg bag. It costs ₹5,074 to save ₹0.58 a candle, and the 1kg bag is already at the 10kg rate of ₹507.40/kg. Skip the melter too — a double boiler and a ₹354 pen thermometer cover this volume. Chanpreet kaur, on the Course Kit: "Product quality is too good and the nature of the supplier is really helpful."

50 candles a month
The biggest per-candle improvement of the journey happens here, and it is ₹2.18 — nearly all of it from moving fragrance onto a 500g bottle at ₹5.24/g and wax off the 500g bag. That is the whole scale dividend, collected at stage two. Sraddha, on a first order: "The wax quality especially has been top notch." Stage two turns that from a compliment into a test: is it the same wax as last time?

200 candles a month
You are now on the deepest wax bag and fragrance bottle CSI publishes, and the pack ladder stops helping: per-candle cost improves by ₹0.50 across the whole stage. What changes is the room — 30kg of wax stored, 200 jars a month in cartons, 93 to 140 candles permanently on cure. Cure space is the constraint nobody budgets for: it is the one input no supplier can sell you. ₹2,36,488 of materials leaves your account a month before those candles are paid for. That, not sourcing, is what breaks businesses here. Why the per-candle cost curve is nearly flat — and what to do about it

Everyone starting a candle business believes the maths gets easier at volume because materials get cheaper. On this range, they do not.

From ten candles to five thousand a month, the material cost of one candle falls from ₹238.20 to ₹235.47 — ₹2.73, or 1.1%, across a 500-fold volume increase, and ₹2.18 of it is collected by 50 a month. We publish this because a buyer planning on the assumption that scale will fix their margin is building on a number that does not exist.

Why it is flat · CSI per-unit pricing by pack size
The volume breaks that exist, and the ones that do not
Item Smallest pack rate Deepest pack rate Break
Luxury Soy Wax Chunks ₹598.00/kg at 500g ₹599.90/kg at 10kg None — the 10kg bag is fractionally dearer per kg than the 1kg
Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 ₹520.00/kg at 500g ₹507.40/kg at 10kg 2.4%, and all of it lands at the 1kg step
Soy Pillar Wax ₹600.00/kg at 500g ₹600.00/kg at 10kg None. Identical at every size
Natural Soy Pearl Wax ₹450.00/kg at 1kg ₹424.80/kg at 5, 10 and 50kg 5.6% — the deepest wax break in the range, and it is exhausted at 5kg
Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468 ₹650.00/kg at 500g ₹637.00/kg at 10kg 2.0%
Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) ₹5.90 at 10 wicks ₹5.90 at 1,000 wicks None. Flat to the paisa across a 100× pack increase
Lavender Fragrance Oil ₹7.00/g at 15g ₹5.22/g at 1kg 25% overall — but only 3.3% from the 50g pot to the 1kg bottle
Performance Wooden Wicks ₹59.00 at 10 ₹41.30 at 100 30% — the largest genuine volume break in the wick range
200ml Salsa Glass Jar ₹40.12 at 5 pcs ₹29.50 at 50 and 100 pcs 26.5% — the largest break on this page, and it stops at 50

Wax and eco wicks are priced per kilogram and per piece, not per order size. The breaks that exist are small, land early and are exhausted by the 5kg bag; the two large ones are items you swap in for a design reason, not items you grow into. If your business plan has a line reading "input costs fall 15% at volume", delete it.

The CSI principle
Scale does not make your candle cheaper. It makes your mistakes bigger.
At ten candles a wrong wick costs ₹238.20. At a thousand a month, a 5% scrap rate costs ₹11,773.50 every month — over four times the ₹2,730 the entire journey gives back at that volume. The scale discount is real and trivial. The penalty on inconsistency is real and enormous.

So where does margin at scale come from? Three places, in this order.

1
Consistency — the largest lever by a distanceA candle that burns the same way every time sells on reorder, and a reorder costs nothing to acquire. Consistency is a cost line, not a virtue: at 1,000 units a month every point of scrap you remove is worth ₹2,354.70, and 1.2 points beats the entire scale discount.
2
Waste reduction — mostly wax left in the pitcherAt ₹70.02 of wax and ₹62.65 of fragrance per candle, a 3% overpour across 1,000 units is ₹3,980 a month poured into the top of jars nobody measures. A ₹354 weighing scale and a fill line on the pitcher pay for themselves in a week.
3
Pricing — used last, should be used firstRaising retail by ₹10 on 1,000 candles a month is ₹10,000, 3.7 times the total saving available across the whole five-stage journey. No new supplier, no new equipment, no new process — it requires only that you know your cost. Method: how to price candles in India 2026; margins: is candle making actually profitable in 2026.
The one input where scale genuinely helps
Freight — not material price. Two customers have said as much in reviews of the wax itself, and it is fair: at 1.5kg the delivery charge is a real share of the order; at 140kg it is almost nothing per candle. That is where volume changes your economics, not the price per kilogram.
Planning a festive run? Diwali 2026 falls on 8 November. Working back through a 14–21 day cure and a pour schedule, a 1,000-unit festive batch needs its wax and fragrance decided in September. Bulk pricing, GST invoicing, MSDS and IFRA documentation are handled directly on WhatsApp.
Order in bulk on WhatsApp

What genuinely changes as you scale, and what never does

Two lists. The first is everything that must change; plan for all of it. The second is everything that must not; protect all of it.

The two lists
Changes with volume · does not change with volume
Changes How Does not change
Pack sizes 500g → 10kg wax; 15g → 1kg oil; 10 → 1,000 wicks The recipe. 138g wax, 12g oil, one C1 wick, the same jar
Melt equipment Double boiler → 1L melter → 10kg melter → 20kg melter The cure. 14–21 days at stage 1 and at stage 5
Storage 1.5kg of wax → 690kg; 10 jars → 5,000 The physics of the melt pool. Pool area is still release area
Cure space One shelf → 2,333–3,500 units permanently racked The stated fragrance ceiling. 10% on CSI 464, 13% on Luxury Soy Chunks
Working capital ₹2,680 once → ₹11,77,366 every month, a month ahead of revenue Add temperature and two minutes of stirring
Handling One shopping trip → 69 wax bags and 250 jar cartons a month Per-candle material cost. ₹238.20 → ₹235.47

The right-hand column is why a continuous supplier is worth something. If the recipe does not change, anything that forces it to change is a cost — and changing supplier forces it to change. A different wax has a different melt point, shrink, pool temperature and quite possibly a different wick. Requalifying one SKU is three test pours, three burn tests and a fortnight of cure. Doing that on four SKUs mid festive build is how brands miss Diwali.

The supplier change nobody schedules. The typical break point is a supplier whose deepest pack is 1kg. You reach 200 candles a month, you need 30kg, and you are suddenly buying thirty bags with thirty batch numbers — or you move. You move exactly when the order book is growing, cash is tight and you have least slack for a fortnight of re-testing. A supplier who serves you at 10 units and at 5,000 does not save you money on wax. It saves you the requalification at the worst possible moment, which is worth far more than ₹2.73. See one supplier for everything and where professional brands buy.

The one thing you carry through every stage: a documented recipe per SKU

Every SKU needs a one-page recipe document, filled in at the bench during the pour, not reconstructed afterwards. It is the only mechanism that makes a candle which worked at ten units still work at five thousand. Without it you are not scaling — you are making a new product every month and hoping nobody notices.

The per-SKU recipe sheet
Eleven fields. The same eleven at 10 candles and at 5,000
Field What you record Why it survives scale
Wax and batch Product, pack size, invoice date Lets you trace a burn change back to a specific bag
Fragrance and batch Product, pack size, invoice date Same oil, different bottle, is still worth logging
Load Percentage and the actual grams 12g in 150g is 8%. Write both so the arithmetic is auditable
Add temperature The thermometer reading, not the target The commonest silent difference between a good batch and a bad one
Stir time Timed, in seconds Two minutes is the specification. Forty seconds is the usual reality
Pour temperature Reading at the moment of pouring Drives adhesion, frosting and surface finish
Ambient temperature Room temperature at pour An Indian May pour and a December pour set differently
Vessel Product and internal diameter in mm Diameter sets the target pool area and therefore the wick
Wick Type and size, e.g. Eco C1 or C2 The single most common uncontrolled variable between batches
Cure Pour date and burn-test date Turns "it smells weak" into a checkable number of days
Burn test Time to full pool, throw at 30 and 120 minutes, soot The only way a new staff member can reproduce your standard

At stage 1 this feels like bureaucracy for ten candles. It is not: those ten candles produce the document, and the document is the asset. At stage 3 it is what you hand a second pair of hands; at stage 5 it is the difference between a brand and a workshop. Weigh, never measure by volume — a weighing scale at ₹354 and a pen thermometer at ₹354 are the cheapest things that make a recipe reproducible at any volume.

The candle that scales is not the best candle you ever made. It is the one you wrote down.

Where CSI's support stops — stated plainly

A page arguing that one supplier can carry you the whole way owes you the boundary.

Published pack ceilings, September 2026
The deepest pack CSI lists, per category
Category Deepest published pack What that covers on our reference candle
Most waxes 10 kg 72 candles per bag. At 5,000/month that is 69 bags
Natural Soy Pearl Wax 50 kg, ₹21,240 (₹424.80/kg) The only 50kg pack in the range — and per kg it is the same as the 5kg
Fragrance oils 1 kg 83 candles per bottle. At 5,000/month that is 60 bottles
Glass 100 pieces, on the deepest lines Most coloured and lidded jars stop at packs of 10 or 20
Eco Candle Wicks 1,000 wicks The one category with genuine production depth

Above roughly 100kg of a single wax a month you are ordering ten or more identical bags — raise it on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926 rather than stacking line items in a cart. Same above about 10kg a month of fragrance, or a few hundred pieces of one glass colour.

And the part a supplier is not supposed to write down. Above a certain volume a retail range is the wrong shape for you, whoever is selling it. If you consume several hundred kilograms of one wax every month on a stable recipe, get quotes from a wax mill and from glass importers and compare on landed cost, lead time, minimum order quantity and what happens when a batch is off. Some of those we win on service, documentation and the fact that you can order 5kg next month if a product fails. Some we lose on price, and you should take the better deal. What we will not do is call 690kg a month a retail purchase. See wholesale raw materials across India and where to source for a business.

One more limit catches people at stage 5: packaging consumables do not scale here at all. Wick stickers come in sheets of 40 — at 5,000 candles a month that is 125 sheets and ₹12,500, a silly way to buy a consumable. By that volume, source stickers and cartons from a packaging converter. Browse packaging materials, then plan to outgrow it.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. The commercially convenient version of this page would claim our pricing rewards you for growing. It does not, and we have published the table that proves it: on several waxes above there is no volume break at all, and Eco Candle Wicks are ₹5.90 a wick whether you buy ten or a thousand. A buyer who chooses us expecting materials to get cheaper at scale will be disappointed, and a disappointed buyer stops ordering.

Every price, pack size and product name comes from live CSI stock in September 2026 and links to the product page, where current pricing and specification take precedence. The 8% load used throughout sits inside the manufacturer's stated ceiling for Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464, up to 10%; Luxury Soy Wax Chunks are stated up to 13%. Those are formulation limits, not regulatory limits, and are not interchangeable between waxes. Cure durations of 14–21 days reflect standard practice for soy container candles.

Frequently asked questions

Can one Indian supplier really take me from 10 candles to commercial production?
Through four of the five stages, comfortably. CSI publishes wax in 500g to 10kg packs, Natural Soy Pearl Wax at 50kg, 92 fragrance oils from 15g to 1kg, Eco Candle Wicks from 10 to 1,000 and glass to packs of 100 — everything up to about 1,000 a month with no supplier change. At 5,000 a month you are placing very large orders of standard packs, which works, but price a mill alongside us.
How much does my per-candle cost fall as I scale up?
On our reference 150g soy candle, from ₹238.20 to ₹235.47 — ₹2.73, or 1.1%, across a 500× volume increase, and ₹2.18 of it arrives by 50 a month. Most CSI wax is priced per kilogram at a flat rate regardless of pack, and eco wicks are ₹5.90 each from 10 to 1,000. Plan on input costs being effectively fixed.
If materials do not get cheaper, how do candle businesses make money at scale?
Consistency, waste reduction and pricing, in that order. At 1,000 a month, cutting scrap by one percentage point is worth ₹2,354.70, removing a 3% overpour ₹3,980, and ₹10 on retail ₹10,000 — each individually beating the ₹2,730 that scale gives back at that volume. See how to price candles in India 2026.
When should I buy a wax melter instead of a double boiler?
Not at ten candles. Around 50 a month, once melt time limits output, the 1-litre Mini Electric Wax Melter at ₹2,360 stops you standing over a hob. At 1,000 a month the imported 10kg melter at ₹21,240 holds 72 candles per fill; at 5,000, add the 20kg version at ₹25,960 or the 20 litre melter at ₹23,600. Buying ahead of the volume is money you needed for stock.
How much cure space do I need at each stage?
Work it from the cure schedule, not monthly output. On a 14–21 day cure, the number permanently racked is roughly half to seven-tenths of monthly output: 23–35 at 50 a month, 93–140 at 200, 467–700 at 1,000, 2,333–3,500 at 5,000. It is the constraint people plan for last and hit first, being the only input no supplier can send you.
What is the biggest pack size CSI sells?
Wax: 10kg on most lines, 50kg on Natural Soy Pearl Wax at ₹21,240 — ₹424.80/kg, identical to the 5kg and 10kg rate, so a handling convenience rather than a discount. Fragrance oils: 1kg across all 92. Glass: 100 pieces on the deepest lines such as the 200ml Salsa Glass Jar, though most lidded and coloured jars stop at 10 or 20. Above that, message +91 7397976926.
Ten candles or five thousand
The pack size changes. The recipe does not. And the per-candle cost barely moves either way.
Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 from ₹260/500g to ₹5,074/10kg at a flat ₹507.40 a kilogram. Natural Soy Pearl Wax to 50kg. Eco Candle Wicks at ₹5.90 each from ten to a thousand. 92 fragrance oils from 15g to 1kg. Glass to packs of 100.
