For most Indian production lines, Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464. Three production properties decide it, and none of them is throw. First, format: flakes have the surface area to melt a 10 kg load quickly and they level off in a melter without hand-breaking. Second, the pour window: the product page gives 80–90°C as the working range for melting and pouring, a 10°C band that sits well above the point at which soy starts to set, so jar 250 still pours like jar 1. Third, pack depth: 10 kg at ₹5,074.00, or ₹30,444.00 for the 60 kg a 300-candle run needs, with the largest live stock of any CSI soy grade at the 10 kg size. What “hundreds per batch” actually means in kilograms

A batch is not a number of candles. It is a mass of wax and a window of time in which that mass has to leave the pitcher.

The first thing to fix is the unit, because “300 candles” tells you nothing about your day. This series costs everything on one unit: 200 g of wax plus 16 g of fragrance oil at 8% of wax weight, which pours 216 g into the jar. Three hundred of those is 60 kg of wax, 4.8 kg of oil and 64.8 kg of poured mass — roughly the weight of an adult, sitting in your workshop, that has to be melted, dosed, stirred, poured and left alone to set in a single working day.

Once you think in kilograms, the production questions answer themselves. Sixty kilograms is six loads of a 10 kg melter. It is six bags of a 10 kg wax or twelve bags of a 5 kg wax. It is about a cubic foot of flakes in storage before it is melted and about 80 litres of finished jars after. And it is a cash number: ₹30,444.00 of wax at Luxury Soy CSI 464 pricing, committed before a single jar is sold. Notice what the ladder does to a festive run. Diwali 2026 falls on 8 November 2026. Allowing a 14-day cure plus despatch and a courier leg to a metro, festive stock wants to be poured by about the middle of October. A 500-candle Diwali line is therefore not one 100 kg day — it is ten melter loads, and unless you own two melters it is two or three pour days that have to be booked now, in September, not discovered in the third week of October.

You planned the batch in candles and ordered wax in candles. Product pages give an indicative candle yield — the Luxury Soy Wax Chunks page, for example, says 10 kg makes roughly 60 to 120 candles depending on candle size. That range is a factor of two wide because jar size is the variable, not the wax. Convert to kilograms using your own fill weight before you order: fill weight in grams × number of jars ÷ 1,000, then add 5% for what stays in the pitcher and the melter. For 300 jars at 200 g of wax that is 60 kg plus 3 kg of allowance, so seven 10 kg bags, not six, if you want to finish the run without opening an emergency pack.

Flakes, chunks or pearls: how the wax gets into the melter

Nobody writes about this until the day they are standing over a melter with a 10 kg bag in both arms.

Wax format is invisible on a spec sheet and unmissable on a pour day. CSI sells soy in three physical forms, and each behaves differently once a batch stops being one bowl and starts being six melter loads.

Flakes — Luxury Soy CSI 464 and Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468

Flakes are thin and light, which is exactly what you want when the melter is the bottleneck: surface area is what melts wax, and a flake has far more of it per kilogram than a chunk. A 10 kg load of flakes settles into a melter without hand-breaking and it reaches a working temperature evenly, which in turn means less time sitting at the top of the range waiting for a cold lump in the middle to give up. The cost is handling: flakes are bulky and static-prone, they drift when a ceiling fan is on, and pouring 10 kg from a bag into a melter mouth without a funnel throws a surprising amount onto the floor. Chunks — Luxury Soy Wax Chunks and Eco Soy CSI 400

Chunks are the opposite trade. They scoop cleanly, they do not drift, and the Eco Soy CSI 400 page describes them as easy-to-measure chunks for exactly that reason — a scoop of chunks on a scale settles to a stable reading faster than a scoop of flakes. They melt more slowly for the same mass because there is less surface per kilogram, so a chunk wax wants a longer lead time between switching the melter on and being ready to dose fragrance. On a line where melting happens in the background while the previous load is being poured, that difference disappears. On a line with one melter and no overlap, it is the difference between six and seven hours.

Pearls — Natural Soy Pearl Wax

Pearls pour like grain. They are the easiest of the three to weigh accurately, the easiest to decant, and Natural Soy Pearl Wax is the only soy in the CSI range sold in a 50 kg pack, at ₹21,240.00 or ₹424.80 per kg. That is an attractive combination on paper for a line running 60 kg batches. The honest problem is documentation: the product page does not publish working temperatures or a fragrance ceiling, so a production maker standardising on it is setting a formula from test pours alone, with nothing to fall back on when a new operator asks what temperature to dose at. Stock is also thin at the top of the range at the time of writing. It can be a very good wax for a line that has already tested it thoroughly; it is a poor first choice for a line that has not.

DECANT ONCE, WEIGH ONCE
Open each bag straight into a lidded food-grade bin on the day it arrives, and write the pack size and arrival date on the lid in marker. You weigh from the bin, not from a half-collapsed bag balanced on a stool, which removes the single most common source of wasted wax on a production floor. It also keeps flakes out of a Mumbai or Kochi monsoon: both the CSI 464 and CSI 468 pages ask for cool, dry storage away from sunlight and moisture, and a sealed bin is the cheapest way to honour that in a workshop with an open window.

Pour window: the number that decides how big one batch can be

The spec that matters at 300 jars is not the highest temperature on the page. It is the distance between the pour temperature and the moment the wax stops behaving.

Here is the mechanism, without jargon. Soy leaves the melter as a clear liquid and sets into an opaque solid, and it does not do that at a single temperature — it thickens over a range, starting at the cool walls of the pitcher and working inwards. While the wax in the pitcher is comfortably inside its published pour band, every jar you fill gets the same liquid. Once it drifts below that band, the wax entering jar 40 is fractionally thicker than the wax that entered jar 1, and thicker wax traps more air against the glass, sets faster at the surface and gives you a different top. Nothing has gone wrong with the wax. The pour simply took longer than the window allowed.

So the useful production spec is the pour window: how wide the published pour band is, and how far above the setting behaviour it sits. Read the diagram at the top of this page as a ruler. Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 is the outlier: its page gives 80–90°C as the working range for melting and pouring, which is a 10°C band sitting a long way above where soy begins to set. In practice that means a pitcher of CSI 464 can lose a lot of heat before the jars start to look different, which is precisely what you want when one person is filling 40 jars from one pitcher while another is topping up the melter.

Luxury Soy Wax Chunks gives 75–80°C for the pour, a 5°C band, with fragrance added at 80–90°C and stirred slowly for two full minutes. That is a perfectly workable production wax — you simply pour in smaller pitcher-fulls and go back to the melter more often. Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468 is the tight one: a melting point of 50–53°C and a pour temperature of 58–60°C. A 2°C pour target only five to ten degrees above the melting point is why coconut-soy gives such an even, creamy top on a small batch and why it punishes a long, unmanaged pour on a large one. It is not a worse wax. It is a wax that demands you hold temperature, which means a melter with a dial you trust and pitcher-fulls small enough to leave before they cool.

Eco Soy CSI 400 sits differently again. Its page asks you to add fragrance at 85°C within an 80–90°C band, stir gently for two minutes and pour directly — there is no separate cool-down step to manage, which is genuinely convenient on a line. The page does not publish a fragrance ceiling, and it does not publish a pour temperature separate from the dosing band, so the only honest way to run it at volume is to fix your own dosing temperature, write it down, and hold it. For that you want a thermometer in the pitcher rather than trust in a melter dial.

The first fifty jars look different from the last fifty. This is the classic large-batch surface fault and it is almost never the wax. One pitcher was filled once, at the top of the band, and then used for forty minutes while it cooled through and past the pour range. Fix it three ways, in order of cost: pour in lots small enough to empty in eight to ten minutes; keep a Pen Thermometer at ₹354.00 in the pitcher rather than reading the melter dial; and if the wax is CSI 468 or another narrow-window grade, move the jars to the melter rather than the wax to the jars. If jar 1 and jar 50 still differ after that, then it is worth changing grade.
The CSI principle
At production scale, a wax is only as good as its worst jar.
A grade that gives a flawless top on a five-jar test and a drifting top on jar 250 is not a better wax with a handling problem. For a line, it is a worse wax.

Melter loads, melt time and how many pours fit in a working day

Wax choice is an argument. Melter capacity is arithmetic.

The Electric Wax Melter (Imported) in the 10 kg size is ₹21,240.00. Its page states a 9.5 litre capacity, a display range of 60°C to 100°C with a ±10°C deviation, and that it melts 10 kg of soy wax in approximately 30 minutes at 100°C. Take those numbers at face value and a 60 kg batch is six loads. Run them back-to-back in one melter with no overlap and you have spent three hours melting before you count dosing, stirring, pouring or topping up.

That single figure reshapes the day more than the wax does. A second melter costs ₹42,480.00 for the pair and turns three hours of melting into an hour and a half, because load two heats while load one is being poured. The 20 kg unit at ₹25,960.00 exists and would halve the load count again, but it is showing a single unit in stock at the time of writing — confirm on WhatsApp before you design a production plan around it. The honest middle path for most Indian workshops running 200 to 300 jars a batch is one 10 kg melter plus a large stock pot on an induction plate as a pre-melt, with the melter used only for holding temperature and dosing.

The stated ±10°C deviation is where wax choice and equipment meet. On CSI 464, with a 10°C published band, a dial that wanders is annoying. On CSI 468, with a 2°C pour target, a dial that wanders is the whole problem. This is the single most practical reason a small line ends up on CSI 464: it is the grade whose published window is wide enough to absorb ordinary equipment tolerance. Whatever you run, read the temperature in the pitcher with a Pen Thermometer at ₹354.00, because that is the wax that is actually going into the jar.

One thing we will say against our own catalogue: the Mini Electric Wax Melter at ₹2,360.00 is not a production melter. One litre is a sampling and repair pot — excellent for blending a fragrance trial, re-melting a rejected jar or running a five-jar wick ladder alongside a main batch, and it is the most-reviewed tool in the range. At 60 kg it is a bystander. Buy it as a second pot, not as your first.

Night before · weigh and stageWeigh six 10 kg loads into lidded bins and stack them in pour order. Weigh 300 doses of fragrance oil, or at least the first hundred, into sealed containers of 800 g each — one per 10 kg load at 8% of wax weight. Pour the first ten jars, then stop and look at them under a light. This first set is your baseline for the day — photograph it. Loads 2 to 6 · pour in timed lotsFrom here, work in pitcher-fulls sized to empty inside eight to ten minutes, and start the next melter load before you begin pouring the current one. Write the pitcher temperature at the start and end of each lot on the batch sheet. The pattern you are looking for is the end temperature creeping down run by run as the day warms and you speed up — that creep, not the wax, is what changes the last fifty jars.

Set, top up and cureLeave the jars untouched where they were poured until fully set; moving a soy candle while the surface is skinning is a reliable way to manufacture a dip. Top up any sunken jars with wax from the same load, reheated to the same band. Then cure: the Luxury Soy Wax Chunks page asks for a minimum of 48 hours and ideally one to two weeks, and 14 to 21 days is standard practice for soy container candles. The grade most Indian lines should standardise on, and for unglamorous reasons. Flakes melt a 10 kg load fast. The page gives 80–90°C as the working range for melting and pouring, which is the widest published band in the soy range and the one most tolerant of a melter that drifts. The stated load is up to 10%, which is more than most production formulas use. The page also states excellent glass adhesion, a creamy opaque finish, low frosting and minimal blooming, and a shelf life of 60 months in cool, dry storage — that last one matters when you are buying 60 kg at a time and pouring it over two months. Sixty kilograms costs ₹30,444.00 in 10 kg packs, or ₹101.48 of wax per 200 g candle. It is not the cheapest soy on this page and we are not going to pretend it is; it is the one that makes a long pour boring, which at 300 jars is the highest praise there is.

It is produced in India, comes in easy-to-measure chunks, is sold as needing no additives, and its page gives a genuinely production-friendly instruction: add fragrance at 85°C in an 80–90°C band, stir gently for two minutes and pour directly, with no separate cooling stage. Two honest constraints. The largest pack is 5 kg, so a 60 kg batch means opening twelve bags instead of six, which is real time and real spillage. And the page does not publish a fragrance ceiling, so if your process documentation needs a stated maximum to work against, you will have to ask for it on WhatsApp rather than read it off the page.

Choose this when the formula needs fragrance headroom above 10%. The page states a load up to 13% of total wax weight, with 8% as a starting point and 10% recommended, and asks you to test-burn thoroughly at 13%. Working figures are unusually complete for a soy: melt to approximately 80–85°C, add dye at full melt, add fragrance at 80–90°C with a slow two-minute stir, pour at 75–80°C, cure a minimum of 48 hours and ideally one to two weeks. It also claims excellent adhesion to glass and containers and minimal frosting. At production scale the 5°C pour band is the thing to plan around: smaller pitcher-fulls, more trips to the melter. Natural Soy Pearl Wax — the 50 kg question

It is the only soy in the range sold in a 50 kg pack, at ₹21,240.00 or ₹424.80 per kg, which puts a 60 kg batch at ₹25,488.00 using one 50 kg bag plus two 5 kg bags — three bags opened instead of six or twelve, and ₹84.96 of wax per 200 g candle. The pearl form is the most pleasant of the three to weigh and decant. Against that: the page describes it as pearlised soy made from a blend of soy wax and publishes neither working temperatures nor a fragrance ceiling, and at the time of writing the 10 kg and 50 kg variants are both showing very low stock. Our position is consistent with the rest of this page — a grade with no published working figures is a fine wax to test and a risky wax to standardise a line on. Read that table as a snapshot, not a promise — stock moves every day and the product pages are always the authority. But the shape of it is the practical point for anyone planning a repeating run. Illustrative only. Rates are CSI’s planning estimates, not measured production data. The only figure taken from a product page is the melt time: the Electric Wax Melter (Imported) page states it melts 10 kg of soy wax in approximately 30 minutes at 100°C. Oil doses are 800 g per 10 kg load, which is 8% of wax weight.

Add the serial version up and a 300-candle day with one melter is roughly five and a half to six hours of work with two pairs of hands, most of it waiting for wax. With two melters it drops toward four. Now look at where the wax choice actually appears in that table. It appears in exactly three places: melt time by format, the number of bags to open, and how often you walk back to the melter because your pour band is narrow.

Quantify each one. Bags: six 10 kg bags of CSI 464 versus twelve 5 kg bags of Eco Soy CSI 400. At a minute a bag to open, decant and dispose of, that is six minutes — against a ₹6,492.00 saving on the batch. That is a trade almost every production line should take, and it is the clearest case on this page where the cheaper wax is simply the better business decision. Melt time: flakes reach working temperature faster than chunks for the same load, which matters on a serial single-melter day and disappears entirely once melting overlaps with pouring. Pour band: a 10°C window lets you fill a pitcher twice where a 2°C window makes you fill it five times, which on 300 jars is perhaps fifteen extra minutes of walking.

You budgeted for the pour and forgot the top-ups. Soy shrinks as it sets and a proportion of jars will need a second, smaller pour the next morning. If you have not planned for it, the top-up happens with wax from a different melt at a different temperature, and the surface ring where the two pours meet is visible under a shop light. Plan it properly: keep two to three kilograms of the same batch aside in a labelled bin, reheat it to the same published band, and top up the following morning as a scheduled task, not a rescue. On the time model that is 20 minutes; unplanned, it is an hour and a visible defect.
You scaled the wick decision along with the wax. Wick behaviour changes with jar diameter, wax and fragrance load, and CSI does not publish wick sizes by diameter on the wick pages — so a wax change means a fresh wick test, not a scaled-up assumption. Two production notes on the numbers. Eco Candle Wicks hold the same unit price all the way up: C1 is ₹5.90 each and C2 is ₹9.44 each whether you buy 10 or 1,000, so there is no volume reason to over-order. Performance Wooden Wicks do have a break — ₹59.00 each in the pack of 10 against ₹41.30 each in the pack of 100 — so if a wooden wick has already passed your burn test, the 100-pack is where the maths changes. And for jars over 8 cm across, the Cotton Braided Wicks Ready Made page is explicit that they are made for large diameters, at ₹12.00 each in every pack size.

Full materials, not just wax, for the 300-candle run on CSI 464: ₹30,444.00 of wax, ₹14,726.40 of Eucalyptus Spearmint Fragrance Oil at 1 kg pricing for 4.8 kg, and ₹2,832.00 of Eco Candle Wicks C2 at ₹9.44 each. That is ₹48,002.40 for the batch, or ₹160.01 per candle before the jar, the lid, the label, the box and the courier. On Eco Soy CSI 400 the same batch is ₹41,510.40, or ₹138.37 a candle; on Chunks, ₹53,552.40 and ₹178.51; on CSI 468, ₹55,778.40 and ₹185.93. The spread between the cheapest and the dearest soy on this page is ₹47.56 a candle — worth knowing, and smaller than most people expect once oil and wicks are in the total.

So run the test before you commit. Time it honestly: start the clock when the first jar is filled and stop it at the twenty-fifth. Record the pitcher temperature at jar 1 and jar 25. Then leave them side by side for 48 hours and look at them under the same light you photograph your product under. If jar 25 matches jar 1 within the time your real pour takes, that grade will survive your production day. If it does not, you have learned it for under three thousand rupees instead of thirty.

Why does my last tray of candles look different from my first?
Almost always the pour window, not the wax. One pitcher filled at the top of the band cools through it over a long pour, and thicker wax gives a different top. Pour in lots small enough to empty in eight to ten minutes, read the temperature in the pitcher with a Pen Thermometer at ₹354.00, and prefer a grade with a wide published band — 10°C on CSI 464 against 2°C on CSI 468.
