Best Wax for Pillar Candle Making in India
शेयर करना
Can I use container soy wax for pillars? No — it is too soft.
How to harden soy wax? Add microcrystalline at 3–7% for pillars.
Cheapest pillar wax? Semi-refined paraffin at ₹220.00/kg.
A pillar stands on its own, so it needs a harder wax that releases from the mould. CSI supplies four candidates. This page compares them for pillars specifically.
The materials
| Material | Published specification | Lowest per kg |
|---|---|---|
| Soy Pillar Wax | soy chunks made for pillar and designer mould candles · no fragrance load or melt point published | ₹600.00 |
| Beeswax Pellets (white or yellow) | 100% natural beeswax pellets for containers, votives, pillars and tealights | ₹800.00 |
| Fully Refined Paraffin Wax Pellets | fully refined paraffin pellets for pillars and containers | ₹354.00 |
| Semi Refined Paraffin Wax | semi-refined paraffin blocks · stated oil content 6–10% | ₹220.00 |
| Microcrystalline Wax Slab | blend 1–10% into a base wax · stated 3–7% for pillars, 1–5% for hardening, 8–10% for sculptural work | ₹298.00 |
| Vybar additive | stated use 0.5–2% of wax weight; lower end for soy | ₹312.00 / 100 g |
Ranked for freestanding candles
| Option | Strength | Limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Beeswax | Naturally hard, slow burning | Dearest per kg |
| Paraffin (fully refined) | Hard, releases well, lowest cost | Not natural |
| Soy Pillar Wax | Made for pillars; soy | No melt point published — test release |
| Soy Pillar Wax + 3–7% microcrystalline | Harder, less brittle | Extra step |
| Container soy waxes | Too soft for freestanding | Use in jars only |
Run a four-wax pillar trial before you commit to one
A comparison chart tells you what each wax is supposed to do. Only your own mould tells you what it actually does. Before you buy a production quantity of any pillar wax, pour the same pillar in each candidate and judge them side by side.
What to buy for the trial
Buy the smallest listed pack of each: Soy Pillar Wax at 500 g for ₹300.00, Fully Refined Paraffin Wax Pellets at 500 g for ₹177.00, Beeswax Pellets at 1 kg for ₹800.00 (there is no smaller beeswax pack), and a 500 g Microcrystalline Wax Slab for ₹149.00. Using CSI's 8% convention, a 300 g pillar takes 276 g of wax and 24 g of oil, so every 500 g pack gives you one full test pillar with wax left for a second pour.
Make four pillars, one mould, one oil: soy pillar alone, soy pillar with 5% micro (14 g of micro in 276 g is close enough), paraffin, and beeswax. Same wick, same room, same day. Change one thing only, the wax.
How to judge them
Score each pillar on four things, in this order. Release: did it leave the mould without force, and is the surface unmarked? Surface: smooth, frosted, pitted or cracked? Stand: after a week on an ordinary shelf, is it still upright and square at the base? Burn: does it hold a clean wall as the pool widens, or does it tunnel or collapse?
Only then look at cost. In a 300 g pillar, the Soy Pillar Wax inside costs ₹165.60. A remade pillar costs more.
Reading the result honestly
Beeswax often wins on hardness and loses on price. Paraffin usually wins on release and colour, and loses if your customer wants a natural wax. Soy Pillar Wax is the one CSI makes for this job, but its page publishes no melt point or fragrance load, so your trial is the only data you will have for it. If the plain soy pillar stands but the micro version releases more cleanly, you have your recipe. One of CSI's reviewers, Lalitha Jagan, wrote that it is "really good to make pillar candles and for moulds". Treat that as a reason to trial it, not to skip the trial.
Where this page fits
This page overlaps an older CSI guide, so it takes a narrower job and leaves the rest to that guide.

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. We publish every pack price, so every per-kilogram and per-candle figure here can be checked against the product pages — including the ones that show a bigger bag is not cheaper.
Prices are taken from live CSI stock in September 2026. Where a product page does not publish a specification, this guide says so rather than filling the gap.

Assumptions: Fragrance load 8% of total candle weight, so wax is 92% of the fill (a 200 g candle = 184 g wax + 16 g oil). Order plans add a 5% wastage allowance (10% where stated for festive buffers). "Cheapest listed packs" is the lowest-cost combination of listed pack sizes, preferring fewer bags when prices tie within a few rupees. Candle counts are rounded down. Costs are core materials only and exclude jar, label, packaging, labour, freight and GST unless stated. Wax stated fragrance maximums are the wax maker's formulation limits, not regulatory limits. Pack sizes not listed on the store (2, 20, 25, 100 kg) are shown as combinations of listed packs; larger quantities are quoted on WhatsApp. Diwali 2026 falls on 8 November.
