Why 10 kg is the point where you commit to one wax

By the time someone searches for ten kilos of soy wax, they have usually poured a test kilo, sold a first small line and started taking orders they can't fill from a 5 kg bag. The temptation at this point is to hedge: five kilos of the wax you know, five of the one a friend recommends. It looks prudent. In practice it is the most expensive way to buy ten kilos, even when the invoice is identical, because a candle recipe belongs to a wax, not to a scent.

Change the wax and you change how much oil it holds, how hot you add and pour, which wick opens a full melt pool in your jar and how long the candle needs to cure. So a "5 + 5" order is not ten kilos of production; it is two half-batches, each with its own wick test, temperature log and cure schedule. The table below puts that into numbers for a 54-candle order.

Every 10 kg soy wax option at CSI

Five soy and coconut-soy waxes are listed in a 10 kg bag and in stock, and a sixth — Eco Soy CSI 400 — reaches ten kilos only as two 5 kg bags. The table gives the 10 kg price, what the product page states, and the wax inside a 200g candle and inside the whole 54-candle batch. Premium Coconut Soy Wax (1 kg ₹920) and the sold-out Soy Wax 464 Pellets are not listed at 10 kg.

Two facts shape the decision. First, the full spread inside a candle is ₹43.76, from Eco Soy CSI 400 to CSI 468; across a 54-candle batch that is ₹2,363.04 — noticeable, but less than the price of forty of the jars in the batch below. Second, the three waxes with published loads and temperatures — Chunks, CSI 464 and CSI 468 — are the ones you can commit to with the product page as your starting recipe. The other three can be excellent, but your own test results are the only specification you'll have.

The decision rule: match the wax to the candle

Answer one question — what kind of candle will most of these 54 be? — and the table below gives the bag. If the honest answer is "two kinds", the rule is one wax per kind, sized to how many of each you'll sell, not one compromise wax for both.

The 10 kg bags worth committing to

Four bags cover the commit decision for most makers: two container soy waxes with published specifications, the lowest-priced true 10 kg bag, and the pillar wax. The size tables show every pack and how many 200g candles at 8% each holds, so you can see what a top-up or a smaller second bag would add.

The costed 54-candle batch

Here is a complete first commercial batch built on one 10 kg bag of Luxury Soy Wax Chunks: 54 × 200g candles in two proven scents of 27. At 10 kg the fragrance maths crosses a useful line — each scent needs 27 × 16g = 432g, which is one 500g bottle with 68g to spare. The jars are matte glass, which lift the look of a line that is now going to a wider audience; swap in 200ml Salsa jars (fifty plus a pack of five for ₹1,675.60) and the per-candle cost falls to ₹230.82.

Notice where the money sits. The wax — the thing this page is about — is ₹110.38 of a ₹272.12 candle, about 41%. The jar and the oil together are more than the wax. That is why the decision rule above says to choose the wax by the candle rather than by price: switching the whole batch to CSI 464 saves ₹17.02 a candle, while switching the jar saves up to ₹41.30. Save money on the part that doesn't change how the candle burns, and spend it on the part that does.

Mini melter or 10 kg melter?

A 54-candle batch is 9.9 kg of wax that has to be melted, scented and poured before it sets. There are two electric routes in the CSI range and they differ by ₹18,880. The Mini Electric Wax/Soap Melter states a 1 litre capacity, dual power modes (300W and 600W), Gear I at approximately 70–85°C and Gear II up to 100–120°C, with a 1-year warranty. The Electric Wax Melter (Imported) in its 10 kg version states it can melt 10 kg of soy wax in approximately 30 minutes at 100°C, melt 9.5 litres of candle wax at a time, and has a display ranging from 60°C to 100°C with a ±10°C deviation.

The mini melter's load count needs a planning assumption, because its page states capacity in litres, not grams of wax. We have assumed three or four 200g candles per load — 552g of wax plus 48g of oil, or 736g plus 64g — a working figure for a 1-litre vessel, not a stated one; mark a safe fill line on your own unit and adjust. That gives 18 or 14 loads for 54 candles. The time per load is not stated anywhere, so time your own first load from solid wax to poured jars. As an illustration only: if one load took 30 minutes on your bench, 14 loads would be 7 hours and 18 loads 9 hours — more than a working day of pouring for one bag.

So when does ₹18,880 pay back? Spread across one 54-candle batch, the difference is ₹349.63 a candle, which no first batch can carry. Spread across ten such batches — 540 candles — it is ₹34.96 a candle; across twenty, ₹17.48. That is illustrative arithmetic, not a forecast, but it frames the decision well: buy the 10 kg melter when you know you will be pouring a 10 kg bag again and again, and when the hours you currently spend refilling a small melter are hours you could be selling. Running a 54-candle pour from one bag

The steps below work on either melter. The difference is only how many times you repeat steps 2 to 4. The scent batches are the same size either way: 4,968g of wax and 432g of oil per 27 candles.
