What should I demand before I pay? Five things: what it is chemically, which wax systems it is for, the recommended dose as a percentage by weight, the MSDS, and a plain answer to "which defect does this fix?". A supplier who cannot answer all five is selling a bag of unknown.

Should I buy one? Most likely not. If you pour soy container wax, the wax is already formulated and your problem is far more likely to be cure, wick or pour temperature. Additives are a paraffin-era tool.
The additive documentation gap in India
Buy a kilogram of Luxury Soy Wax Chunks in India in 2026 and you can establish, before you pay, what the wax is for, what fragrance load it is formulated to hold — up to 13% on the Chunks, up to 10% on CSI 464 — and what temperature band to work in. Buy a fragrance oil and you can ask for the IFRA certificate and the MSDS and expect both. That is the normal state of the market now.
Additives did not come with it. Search "candle additive India" and you find listings that give a product name, a pack weight and a price, then stop. No statement of what the substance is. No statement of which wax systems it was formulated for. No dose range. Very often no MSDS anywhere on the page, and when you ask, the reply is silence or a scan belonging to a different grade of the same material. You are being asked to add an unidentified substance to a product a customer will burn in their home, on the strength of a name.
The failure has a predictable shape. A maker has a problem — a rough top, a weak candle, tunnelling, a pillar that will not release. They search, find a forum post recommending an additive, and buy it, because it is cheap and easy to buy. Nothing on the listing tells them the post was written about paraffin, or that the dose quoted was a percentage of a formulation that is not theirs. They guess a quantity and pour, and one of three things happens: nothing changes, something else breaks, or the candle appears to improve and they cannot repeat it, because they changed the wax chemistry without recording what they did.
The gap persists for a commercial reason. Additives are a low-value line sold a few hundred grams at a time, and documenting one properly costs the same effort whether it turns over ₹5,000 a month or ₹500,000. So it does not get done. The practical consequence: ask, individually, every time, rather than wait for listings to improve.
CSI's position is not that we have solved it. We stock two additive-class products, we supply an MSDS on request for what we sell, and we issue GST invoices. What we do not do is publish a dosage figure we cannot stand behind, which is why you will not find a "use 1%" or "use 3%" number anywhere on this page. A percentage invented to make an article feel complete is exactly what has damaged this category. A dose has to come from the manufacturer of the grade in your hand — and if nobody can tell you which grade that is, you have your answer about the purchase.
What to demand from an additive supplier
This is what you should be able to get from any supplier before money moves, on any additive, in any quantity. None of it is exotic or commercially sensitive — it is information a manufacturer generates as a matter of course, and a reseller has either obtained it or not bothered.

Question five ends most purchases, and it should. Asking it forces you to state your own defect in specific terms — not "my candles aren't great" but "the tops set rough after a 24-hour cool at 26°C ambient". Said that way, the problem is often obviously a process variable rather than a chemistry one, and the purchase cancels itself at no cost. Verifying the wax you already have is a cheaper first move than adding a second material to it.
The MSDS demand deserves its own note, because makers treat it as bureaucratic and it is not. It is the only document that tells you how to store the material through an Indian summer, what to do if it contacts skin, and what happens when it is overheated — and a workshop that melts wax has all three as live risks. It also becomes commercially load-bearing the moment you grow: corporate gifting buyers, export customers and the larger marketplaces all ask for documentation on the inputs, and "I bought it from a seller who did not have the sheet" does not survive that conversation. If you are heading toward the volumes in scaling to 1,000 orders a month, collect the paperwork while the order book is still small enough to make it easy.

Cost in context: cheap per candle, expensive per kilogram
Additives feel inexpensive because you buy them in small packs and use them in small doses. Both are true, and neither tells you what you are paying for the material. Run the per-kilogram figure and the picture changes: Vybar at ₹3,120 per kilogram is 14.2 times the price of the cheapest wax on the store and 2.8 times the dearest one. That does not make it a bad buy — you use a fraction of the quantity — but standardising on it across a range needs the arithmetic done deliberately, because apart from fragrance oil it is the most expensive material by weight that will ever go into your candle.

Now run it per candle, which is the number that decides affordability. The table below is arithmetic, not a dosage recommendation — it prices whatever quantity your supplier's documentation tells you to use, on a 200g candle. For scale, 200g of Eco Soy CSI 400 at ₹399/kg costs ₹79.80, and the same weight of Luxury Soy Wax Chunks at ₹599/kg costs ₹119.80.

Compatibility is wax-system specific
Paraffin is close to a blank base — cheap, consistent, and not formulated for any particular job. Semi Refined Paraffin at ₹220/kg and Fully Refined Paraffin Wax Pellets at ₹354/kg are raw materials in the fullest sense. The whole practice of candle additives grew up around that: if the base does nothing on its own, you add things to make it hold fragrance, harden, release from a mould or set with an even top. In a paraffin workshop, additives genuinely are part of the recipe.
A modern soy container wax is not a blank base. It is a finished formulation, and the formulator has already made those decisions for you. Eco Soy CSI 400 is sold as a one-pour wax needing no additives, fragrance in at 80–90°C. CSI 464 is a single-pour container wax with low frosting and strong glass adhesion. Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468 is blended for a fuller release and a smoother top. Those properties are the product. Adding an additive to a formulated soy wax is not improving an inert base — it is re-formulating somebody else's formulation, usually without knowing what is already in it.
There is a specific, overlooked consequence. The stated fragrance ceilings — up to 13% for Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, up to 10% for CSI 464 — are formulation limits stated for the wax as supplied: how much oil that specific composition holds in solution. Add a polymer or a second wax and the number no longer describes what is in your pot. It might go up or down; nobody has tested your blend. You have swapped a documented ceiling for an undocumented one, in order to solve a problem the wax may not have.
This is where we argue against our own interest, and it is the most useful paragraph here. If you pour soy container candles and you are having a soy container problem, buy no additive. Frosting, wet spots, rough tops, weak throw, tunnelling and poor glass adhesion in soy are overwhelmingly caused by pour temperature, ambient temperature, cool-down rate, cure length and wick size — five things that cost nothing to change and can be tested this week. Additive thinking still applies cleanly outside soy container work: paraffin of any grade, pillar and mould work where release and hardness genuinely matter — Soy Pillar Wax sits at that boundary — and speciality systems where you are deliberately building a wax rather than using one. If that is you, the checklist above is not pedantry; it is the only thing between you and an undocumented blend you cannot reproduce next quarter. Testing an additive, and what the test costs
If you have worked through all that and still want the additive, test it properly or not at all. A badly run trial is worse than none: it produces a confident conclusion from nothing, and you build a range on it. Five rules, then the bill.

Add ₹708 once for a weighing scale and a pen thermometer at ₹354 each if you do not own them, and the first trial is a shade over ₹2,400. The ₹156 bag is roughly 9% of the cost of finding out whether the ₹156 bag works. The materials around the test cost ten times the additive itself — which is why an undocumented additive is a far larger commitment than its price tag suggests, and why the five demands are worth making before you commit the other ₹1,556.
The calendar bill is heavier than the money. Pour on day zero, cure 21 days, burn-test days 21 to 23, pour round two on day 24, cure to day 45, burn-test to day 47. That is close to seven weeks from first pour to a defensible answer.
