Cheap Soy Wax vs Premium Soy Wax — Which Is Better for a Candle Business?
शेयर करना
Is 10 kg cheaper than 1 kg? Only for Pearl and CSI 468 on CSI's listed prices.
How do I calculate it? Wax grams (92% of fill) × price per gram.
Does bulk save money? Little on listed packs; ask for a quote above them.
The cheapest CSI soy wax and the premium coconut-soy are ₹251 per kilogram apart. Inside a 200 g candle that is about ₹46. Whether that is worth it depends on the price you sell at.
Cheap to premium, per candle
| Wax | Per kg | Wax / 200 g candle | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| Eco Soy CSI 400 | ₹399.00 | ₹73.42 | 100% soy container wax in chunks, produced in India |
| Natural Soy Pearl Wax | ₹424.80 | ₹78.16 | soy-blend container wax in pearl form with a pearlescent finish |
| Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 (flakes) | ₹507.40 | ₹93.36 | 100% soy container wax in flakes |
| Luxury Soy Wax Chunks | ₹598.00 | ₹110.03 | container and jar wax |
| Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 (flakes) | ₹637.00 | ₹117.21 | coconut-soy blend |
| Premium Coconut Soy Wax | ₹920.00 | ₹169.28 | soy and virgin coconut oil blend for containers |
Eco Soy 400 to CSI 468 is ₹43.79 per 200 g candle. At a ₹499 selling price that is 8.8% of the price; at ₹999 it is 4.4%.
Cheap wax only stays cheap if it stays in the jar
The price gap between Eco Soy CSI 400 and the premium coconut-soy is clear on paper. What the table cannot show is the cost of a candle you cannot sell. That is where the cheap-versus-premium question is really settled, and it is worth doing the sum before you choose.
Price the wax per sellable candle
Suppose one Eco Soy candle in ten comes out with a top or a finish you will not ship. The wax inside each candle you do sell then costs 73.42 ÷ 0.9, about 81.6 rupees. That is still below the ₹93.36 of CSI 464. On wax alone, the cheaper wax would need roughly one reject in five before CSI 464 caught up, since 73.42 ÷ 93.36 is about 0.79.
But a reject never loses only wax. It takes its fragrance oil, its wick and its jar with it, and the time you spent pouring it. Once those are counted, the reject rate at which a premium wax pays for itself is far lower than the wax sum suggests. A wax that is cheaper per kilogram and gives you more rejects can easily cost more per candle sold.
Know what each wax does and does not publish
Eco Soy CSI 400 publishes no fragrance load, so you have to find its comfortable load in your own tests. CSI 468 states up to 13% and gives a pour range of 58–60°C. That published detail is part of what you pay for: fewer unknowns at the start. A buyer of Eco Soy CSI 400 described it simply as "Good quality wax", and many makers do get good results from it. The point is that you are doing more of the finding-out yourself.
Mixing both in one range
You do not have to choose one wax for everything. A price-led line of everyday jars can run on Eco Soy CSI 400 or Pearl, while a small hero line uses CSI 468 where surface and throw are the selling point. Keep separate wick records for each wax, because a wick tuned for one will not automatically suit the other.
