Candle Business Guides · Wick × WholesaleCSI sells cotton-type wick three ways: ready-made at ₹12 a wick, by the metre at ₹70.80 to ₹94.40, and as a 61-metre braided roll with 100 tabs for ₹706.82. This guide works out what each one really costs per wick at the length you cut, and which format a production line should actually buy.

Braided Wick Roll with 100 wick tabs (61 m, ₹706.82) · against ₹12 for a single ready-made 10.16 cm Cotton Braided Wick · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
What does cotton wick cost wholesale at CSI? Cotton Braided Wicks Ready Made are ₹12 each in every pack from 10 to 1,000 (₹120 to ₹12,000). The Braided Wick Roll with 100 wick tabs is ₹706.82 for 61 metres. Eco Candle Wicks Loose cost ₹413 for 5 m or ₹708 for 10 m; Eco Braided Wicks ₹472 for 5 m or ₹826 for 10 m. Pre-cut Eco Candle Wicks, described as cotton and paper fibres, are ₹5.90 (Thin C1) and ₹9.44 (Thick C2).

Is it cheaper to cut my own? Only from the roll: ₹1.39 of wick at a 12 cm cut, against ₹8.53 to ₹9.95 from the 10 m metre packs and ₹12 ready-made. A ₹2 to ₹3.50 saving does not pay for cutting, priming and fixing a base.

Which cotton wick suits which candle? Only two CSI wick pages state sizing: Cotton Braided Wicks Ready Made are for "large-diameter candles exceeding 8 cm", and Eco Candle Wicks Loose are "designed specifically for 2 inch diameters". Everything else is settled by a test burn in your own vessel.

Does buying 1,000 lower the price? Not on the listed price: ready-made cotton wicks are ₹12 each at 10 and at 1,000. Recurring or larger volumes are quoted on WhatsApp.
The short answer
Buy ready-made when you pour containers wider than 8 cm and your wax sits below the 10.16 cm wick height: ₹12 a wick, nothing to cut, the same price at any pack size.
Buy the roll when you pour pillars in moulds (the wick threads through the mould base, so no tab is needed) or candles taller than a ready-made wick. At ₹11.59 a metre it is the cheapest cotton wick CSI lists by a wide margin.
Buy by the metre for fit, not for savings: Eco Candle Wicks Loose are stated for 2 inch diameters and Eco Braided Wicks for large-diameter jars. Choose them because the size suits your vessel.
What one metre of wick costs, by the format you buy it in Braided roll · 61 m ₹11.59 / m · ₹706.82 incl. 100 tabs Eco Loose · 10 m ₹70.80 / m · stated for 2 inch Eco Braided · 10 m ₹82.60 / m · large-diameter jars Eco Braided · 5 m ₹94.40 / m Ready-made · 10.16 cm ≈₹118.11 / m equivalent · ₹12 per wick, nothing to cut
Bar length is price per metre. The ready-made figure is ₹12 divided by its stated 10.16 cm height. The roll is six to eight times cheaper per metre than the metre packs, but it comes with only 100 tabs, which is where the real decision sits.
Straight answer
Where should an Indian candle business buy cotton wick in bulk, and is it cheaper to cut your own?
Buy from a supplier that lists cotton wick in more than one format, because the right format depends on the candle, not on the price tag. At CSI, Cotton Braided Wicks Ready Made cost ₹12 each whether you buy 10 or 1,000; the page states a 10.16 cm wick height and describes them for large-diameter candles exceeding 8 cm. The Braided Wick Roll with 100 wick tabs is ₹706.82 for 61 metres, or ₹11.59 a metre: cut at 12 cm, that is ₹1.39 of wick against ₹12 ready-made. But the roll carries only 100 tabs, so a container maker who uses nothing but the tabbed wicks pays ₹7.07 per wick; the roll only becomes cheap when the remaining 49 metres go into pillar moulds, where the wick threads through the mould base and needs no tab. The metre packs — Eco Candle Wicks Loose (₹708 for 10 m, stated for 2 inch diameters) and Eco Braided Wicks (₹826 for 10 m, for large-diameter jars) — work out at ₹8.53 to ₹9.95 per 12 cm wick, so buy them for size, not savings. Test-burn every wick in your own vessel before ordering hundreds, and take recurring volumes to WhatsApp.
One line: ready-made at ₹12 for wide jars, the ₹706.82 roll for pillars and tall candles, metre packs only when their stated size fits — and a test burn before any of them goes into a 500-candle run.
Setting up a cotton wick line? Cotton Braided Wicks Ready Made at ₹12 each in packs of 10 to 1,000, the 61 m Braided Wick Roll with 100 tabs at ₹706.82, and Eco Candle Wicks Loose from ₹413 for 5 m — all from one wick collection.

Three ways CSI sells cotton wick

Every cotton wick is either cut for you, cut by you from a short length, or cut by you from a very long one. The price per wick follows that order, and so does the work.

Pre-cut wicks are priced per piece: you pay for the cutting and get a consistent length. Wick by the metre costs less per centimetre, but you do the cutting. A long roll collapses the per-centimetre cost, but what comes with the braid — here, 100 tabs — decides how far the saving reaches. CSI lists all three. Where a page is silent on something that matters, the table says so: a blank on a supplier's page is a question to ask before you order at volume.

Pre-cut, per piece Eco Candle Wicks Thin C1 ₹5.90 each · Thick C2 ₹9.44 each · packs of 10 to 1,000 "Natural fibers like cotton and paper"; pairs with soy, beeswax and other eco waxes. No diameter guidance Choose C1 or C2 by test burn; fix and centre

By the metre Eco Braided Wicks 5 m ₹472 · 10 m ₹826 "The perfect solution for large diameter container jars"; "eco-friendly materials". No numeric diameter; fibre not named Cut to length, prime if needed, fix a base
Roll Braided Wick Roll with 100 wick tabs 61 m + 100 tabs ₹706.82 "Braided cotton wick"; cut "to the desired length"; 100 small metal tabs. The 61 m length is in the title, not the description Cut, prime if needed, attach tabs (first 100) or thread through a mould
The label trap: printing "100% cotton wick" on the box. Three listings name cotton — the roll, the ready-made wicks and Eco Candle Wicks ("cotton and paper"). The two metre packs say eco-friendly materials without naming the fibre. If your packaging claims cotton, buy a listing that states it, or ask for confirmation on WhatsApp before the labels go to print.

None of the cotton listings publish a numbered size scale or burn-diameter chart. Two pages state a vessel size; the rest describe their purpose in words. That puts the weight on your own test burn, which at wholesale quantities you should run anyway — see the wick guide by diameter.

Per metre and per wick, worked out

The honest common unit is cost per wick at the length you actually cut: wax height plus enough to stand above the surface. This guide assumes a 12 cm cut for containers (a jar of about 10 cm plus 2 cm) and 16 cm for pillars (an 11.2 cm mould plus about 5 cm to thread the base and tie off).

Cotton Braided Wicks Ready Made ₹12 each 10.16 cm ≈₹118.11 equivalent 1 · ₹12 Too short Too short
Worked out above: per metre = price ÷ metres (₹706.82 ÷ 61 = ₹11.587; ₹708 ÷ 10 = ₹70.80; ₹413 ÷ 5 = ₹82.60; ₹826 ÷ 10 = ₹82.60; ₹472 ÷ 5 = ₹94.40). Whole wicks = pack length in cm ÷ cut length, rounded down (6,100 ÷ 12 = 508; 1,000 ÷ 12 = 83; 500 ÷ 12 = 41). Per wick = price ÷ whole wicks (₹708 ÷ 83 = ₹8.53; ₹826 ÷ 83 = ₹9.95; ₹706.82 ÷ 508 = ₹1.39). Ready-made equivalent = ₹12 ÷ 0.1016 m = ₹118.11 per metre. Offcuts from rounding down are ignored.

Three conclusions. The roll is in a different price class: ₹1.39 a 12 cm wick against ₹8.53 to ₹11.51 from any metre pack. The metre packs barely beat ready-made: the best saves ₹3.47 a wick (Eco Loose 10 m), Eco Braided 10 m saves ₹2.05, before any cutting or base-fixing. And ready-made has a length ceiling: at 10.16 cm it cannot serve a moulded pillar taller than about 10 cm. If a metre-pack wick does suit your vessel, buy the 10 m pack — it is 12.5% cheaper per metre on Eco Braided and 14.3% on Eco Loose.

Cut length is a recipe line, not a guess
Measure a finished candle, not the empty jar, and write the cut length into the recipe beside wax, oil and load. A wick cut 3 cm too long across a 500-unit run is 15 metres — a quarter of a roll — thrown away.

What the roll price leaves out

₹1.39 is the price of a length of braid. It is not yet the price of a wick you can pour around.

A container wick needs a base to stand on the jar floor, stiffness to stay upright during the pour, and a consistent length. The roll supplies braid and 100 metal tabs, and CSI does not list loose tabs separately — so the roll's economics depend on where the braid goes:

How the roll's cost per wick depends on where the braid goes
Three ways to use one ₹706.82 roll
How you use the roll Braid used Wicks you get Cost per wick Verdict
100 tabbed container wicks at 12 cm, rest unused 12 m of 61 m 100 ₹7.07 Cheaper than ₹12 ready-made, but you are paying for 49 m you never use
100 tabbed container wicks at 12 cm + pillar wicks at 20 cm from the rest 61 m 100 + 245 = 345 ₹2.05 The roll working as intended
100 moulded pillars at 16 cm, tabs kept for a later container batch 16 m 100 pillars, 45 m and 100 tabs left over ₹1.85 of braid per pillar Best fit for a pillar line

The first row is the common mistake. A container-only maker makes 100 wicks, runs out of tabs and is left with 49 metres of braid. Those wicks cost ₹7.07 each — still ₹493 per 100 candles cheaper than ready-made, but far from ₹1.39. The roll becomes genuinely cheap only when the braid beyond the tabs has a job, usually pillars: in a pillar mould the wick threads through the hole in the base, is sealed underneath and held straight at the top, so no tab is needed.

The mistake: buying a roll for a 500-jar container run. 500 container wicks at 12 cm need 60 metres of braid, which the roll has — and 500 tabs, which it does not. The roll supplies 100. Before you plan a container run around it, ask on WhatsApp whether tabs can be supplied for the extra 400, or split the run: 100 jars on roll wicks and 400 on ready-made wicks (if your jar is wider than 8 cm) or pre-cut Eco Candle Wicks. The roll is also a single listing with no pack ladder, so confirm how many are available before you build a production plan around several of them.

Then priming: neither the roll nor the metre-pack pages say whether the braid arrives waxed. If yours is raw, the usual practice is to dip cut lengths in melted wax, pull them straight and let them harden — consistently, or candles from one batch will light differently. Cutting, priming and tabbing all cost bench time, so measure it once.

1
Fix your cut length from a finished candleMeasure wax height plus the wick you want above the surface; for a pillar, add enough to thread the base and tie off. This guide uses 12 cm for containers and 16 cm for an 11.2 cm pillar mould.
2
Run one timed bench session of 20 wicksCut 20 lengths from the roll, prime if raw, straighten, and tab the container ones. Time it from first cut to clean-up.
3
Divide by 20 to get minutes per finished wickThe first session is always slowest; repeat it a week later and use that figure.
4
Compare it with the ₹10.61 savingAt a 12 cm cut, a roll wick saves ₹10.61 against a ₹12 ready-made wick (₹12 − ₹1.39). Put whatever figure you place on an hour of your bench time against the minutes from step 3. As a rule of thumb, every ₹100 of your time has to turn out at least 10 finished wicks for cutting to beat buying ready-made.
5
Check where the rest of the roll goesIf the braid beyond the first 100 tabbed wicks has no pillar or tall-candle job, use ₹7.07 per wick in step 4 instead of ₹1.39. The saving against ready-made falls to ₹4.93, and the bar in step 4 rises to about 20 wicks per ₹100 of time.

Most makers who run that test end up with a split supply: ready-made or pre-cut wicks for containers, a roll for pillars and anything taller than 10 cm — each wick bought in the format where its cost per finished candle is lowest.

The cotton wicks worth buying in bulk

Four listings cover almost every cotton wick job. Each card shows every pack, the unit cost and the cost per wick at the stated cut length. Pre-cut Eco Candle Wicks C1 and C2 are covered in the quantity guides linked below.

1
Pre-cut · wide containers and short pillars
Cotton Braided Wicks Ready Made
The no-bench-time option: a thick braid engineered for large-diameter candles exceeding 8 cm, with a stated wick height of 10.16 cm. At ₹12 a wick in every pack, buy what your next batch needs plus test spares. Before a 500 or 1,000 order, check the product photos or ask on WhatsApp how the base is finished — the description doesn't say, and it decides how you fix the wick to the jar.

A spool of braided cotton wick to cut "to the desired length", plus 100 small metal tabs that "provide a stable base for the wick". At ₹11.59 a metre it costs about a sixth of the cheapest metre pack, and it cuts long enough for pillar moulds that a 10.16 cm ready-made wick cannot reach.

Eco Candle Wicks Loose (2 inch diameter)
The one metre-pack wick with a stated vessel size: designed specifically for 2 inch diameters (5.08 cm) — small votives and narrow containers such as the 5.3 cm Heart Cutout Velvet Candle Jar. Short vessels need short wicks, so a metre goes further — and the 10 m pack is 14.3% cheaper per metre.

Stated sizing vs tested sizing

A supplier's page can narrow the choice to two wicks. Only your jar, your wax and your oil can choose between them.

The wick is the cheapest component in a candle and the one most likely to ruin it: too small and it tunnels, too large and it soots, mushrooms and overheats the glass. Below, CSI vessels with a stated size are set against any stated wick guidance and the cotton wicks worth a first side-by-side burn.

Vessel → stated wick guidance → what to test first
Using only sizes the product pages state
Vessel (stated size) Stated wick guidance that applies Test these side by side Watch for
Heart Cutout Velvet Candle Jar · 5.3 cm diameter, 4.3 cm high, 50 g wax Eco Candle Wicks Loose: "2 inch diameters" (5.08 cm) — the closest stated match Eco Loose cut short vs Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) A very short burn height; trim the wick close
Amber Shiny Glass Jar with Black Lid · 6 cm diameter, 120 gm None stated Eco Candle Wicks C1 vs C2 Full pool to the glass without a tall, sooting flame
Black Frosted Glass Jar · 8 cm high, 7 cm wide, 200 ml None stated Eco Candle Wicks C2 vs Eco Braided cut at about 10 cm Tunnelling on the first burn
Apothecary Glass Candle Jar with Dome Lid · 10 cm diameter, 10.8 cm high without lid, 500 g / 700 g Cotton Braided Ready Made: "exceeding 8 cm"; Eco Braided: "large diameter container jars" Ready-made (10.16 cm) vs Eco Braided cut to your fill height Whether 10.16 cm clears your fill line; a single wick reaching the edge
Pillar Candle Mould · Tall 11.2 × 6.3 cm, Short 8.6 × 6.5 cm None stated Roll wick cut at about 16 cm (Tall) or 13 cm (Short) A ready-made 10.16 cm wick cannot thread the Tall mould

Some pages give an outer width, so measure the inside of the glass. The "test these" pair is a starting point: if both tunnel or both soot, move one step and burn again. Reading the melt pool is covered in wrong wick size is killing your hot throw and why is my candle tunnelling.

The mistake: approving a wick on one short burn. A cotton wick that looks right after 45 minutes can still tunnel over a four-hour burn or start mushrooming halfway down the jar. For a wick you are about to buy by the hundred, burn at least two cured candles in sessions of up to three to four hours, down to the lower third of the jar. Record time to a full pool, flame height, soot and carbon build-up on the wick. If you have just changed wax, oil or load, re-test the wick: a different recipe is a different fuel. A detailed diagnosis of mushrooming is in why is my candle wick mushrooming.
The CSI principle
Buy cotton wick by the candle it serves, not by the metre it comes on.
The cheapest metre of wick in India is worthless in a jar it cannot reach, and a ₹12 wick is expensive only if a ₹1.85 one would have burned the same. Price per metre tells you what the braid costs. Price per finished, test-approved candle tells you what the wick costs.

What to demand from a cotton wick supplier — and where CSI stands

Once you buy wick by the hundred, the supplier matters as much as the product. Here is the checklist to put to any wick supplier, answered for CSI with the gaps included.

Cotton wick supplier checklist · answered for CSI, September 2026
Seven questions to ask any wholesale wick supplier
Question Why it matters at volume What CSI lists
Is the fibre stated? Your label and your customer claims depend on it Stated on the roll (braided cotton), the ready-made wicks (cotton in the title) and Eco Candle Wicks (cotton and paper). Not named on Eco Braided or Eco Loose
Is sizing stated? Fewer test burns before the first order Two statements: over 8 cm (ready-made) and 2 inch (Eco Loose). No numeric size chart — a gap you close by testing
Is length stated? It decides which candle heights a wick can serve Ready-made 10.16 cm; metre packs by pack length; roll 61 m in the title only
Can I buy the quantity I need? Cash is not tied up in wick you won't pour this season Ready-made in 10, 50, 100, 500 and 1,000; Eco Candle Wicks C1/C2 in 10 to 1,000; metre packs in 5 m and 10 m; the roll as a single item
Does a bigger pack change the unit price? Tells you whether buying ahead actually saves anything Ready-made flat at ₹12; C1 flat at ₹5.90 and C2 at ₹9.44; metre packs 12.5–14.3% cheaper per metre at 10 m
Can the wicking kit come in the same order? One invoice, one delivery, matched parts Wick Stickers (40 for ₹100; the 100-sheet is sold out), Large Wick Stickers (40 for ₹249), Steel Wick Holders (₹50 each in 5/10/25), Wick Centering Device (5 for ₹118), Wick Setting Tool ₹399, Wicking Needle ₹472, Mould Sealer ₹472 for 80 pieces
What happens above the largest pack? Recurring production needs a route beyond the cart Recurring and larger volumes, GST invoicing and any documentation are handled on WhatsApp, +91 7397976926

The honest summary: strong on format choice, pack flexibility and matching tools; thin on published sizing, which is why this guide leans on test burns. Ask on WhatsApp about a specific wick in a specific vessel, then burn-test the answer. For the wider one-supplier question, see the best place to source candle making supplies for a business.

A wick supplier who tells you what their page doesn't state is more useful than one who fills the gap with a guess.

Two costed 100-candle cotton wick orders

Two orders of 100 candles — wide containers and moulded pillars — with tools (bought once) separated from consumables (bought every run, and the figure that belongs in your candle costing).

Build A · 100 container candles in jars wider than 8 cm
Ready-made cotton wicks, stickers and centring
Item Pack Price Type Why
Cotton Braided Wicks Ready Made Pack of 100 ₹1,200 Consumable Stated for candles exceeding 8 cm; 10.16 cm height
Candle Wick Stickers 3 sheets of 40 ₹300 Consumable 120 stickers for 100 jars plus spares (the 100-sticker sheet is sold out); confirm the wick's base finish first
Wick Centering Device 2 × pack of 5 ₹236 Tool 10 reusable centring bars; stated for openings under 4 inches, so a 10 cm jar is just inside
First order ₹1,736 ₹17.36 per candle on the first batch
Every run after ₹1,450 per 100 ₹14.50 per candle — ₹12 wick + ₹2.50 sticker
Build B · 100 moulded pillars in an 11.2 cm mould
A roll, a wicking needle and mould sealer
Item Pack Price Type Why
Braided Wick Roll with 100 wick tabs 61 m ₹706.82 Consumable 100 × 16 cm uses 16 m; 45 m and all 100 tabs remain
Premium Candle Wicking Needle 1 ₹472 Tool Threads the wick through the mould base
Candle Mold Sealer 2 × 80 pieces ₹944 Consumable Seals the wick hole; one piece per pour assumed, 60 left over
First order ₹2,122.82 ₹21.23 per pillar on the first batch, with 45 m of braid and 100 tabs still in hand
Wick + sealer per pillar ₹7.75 ₹1.85 of braid + ₹5.90 of sealer

Build B's first order costs ₹386.82 more than Build A's, but it leaves 45 metres of braid and 100 unused tabs — enough for the next 100 container wicks at 12 cm with 33 metres to spare — and its recurring wick-and-sealer cost is about half. On the needle, one CSI customer wrote that it "doesn't damage the mould and there is no leakage of wax while pouring"; a leaking wick hole wastes more wax than the wick costs.

Where the 100 spare tabs go
If you run both a pillar line and a container line, cut your next container batch from the same roll using the 100 tabs, fix each tab to the jar floor with a wick sticker, and hold the wick upright with a Steel Wick Holder (stated to fit jars up to 9 cm wide) or the Wick Setting Tool at ₹399. One roll then serves 100 pillars and 100 containers for ₹706.82 of wick. That is ₹3.53 a candle, before stickers and sealer.

For the quantity side of the same decision, the sibling guides work through buying 100 candle wicks and 1,000 candle wicks wholesale, across every wick type CSI lists.

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. On a wick page, that shows in what we are willing to say. The most profitable line for us would be "buy 1,000 ready-made wicks". Instead we have shown that a ₹706.82 roll can wick the right candles for a fraction of that cost. We have also named the gaps on our own listings: an unnamed fibre on two metre packs, no numeric size chart, and only 100 tabs with the roll.

Every price, pack size and stated specification here comes from live CSI stock in September 2026 and links to the product page, where current pricing always takes precedence. Wick sizing is quoted only where a page states it: "exceeding 8 cm" for Cotton Braided Wicks Ready Made, "2 inch diameters" for Eco Candle Wicks Loose, "large diameter container jars" for Eco Braided Wicks. Cut lengths of 8, 12, 16 and 20 cm are planning assumptions set out in the text, not product specifications.

Frequently asked questions

What is the wholesale price of cotton candle wicks in India?
At CSI in September 2026, Cotton Braided Wicks Ready Made are ₹12 each in packs of 10 (₹120), 50 (₹600), 100 (₹1,200), 500 (₹6,000) and 1,000 (₹12,000). The Braided Wick Roll with 100 wick tabs is ₹706.82 for 61 metres. Pre-cut Eco Candle Wicks, described as cotton and paper fibres, are ₹5.90 (C1) and ₹9.44 (C2) each. Recurring and larger volumes are quoted on WhatsApp; the product pages always show current prices.
How many wicks can I cut from a 61 metre wick roll?
Divide 6,100 cm by your cut length. That gives about 600 wicks at 10.16 cm, 508 at 12 cm, 381 at 16 cm and 305 at 20 cm, or ₹1.18 to ₹2.32 of braid per wick. Remember that the roll includes 100 tabs, and CSI does not list loose tabs, so plan the braid beyond the first 100 wicks for pillar moulds, which need no tab, or ask on WhatsApp about tabs before a larger container run.
Is a wick roll cheaper than ready-made cotton wicks?
Per wick, yes — ₹1.39 of braid at a 12 cm cut against ₹12 ready-made. But if you only use the 100 tabbed wicks and leave the rest of the roll, each wick costs ₹7.07. Cutting, priming and tabbing also take bench time. At a 12 cm cut, cutting your own beats buying ready-made only if every ₹100 of your time produces at least 10 finished wicks. Ready-made wins for container-only makers who value speed.
Which size of cotton wick do I need for my candle jar?
Start from what the pages state. Cotton Braided Wicks Ready Made are for candles exceeding 8 cm in diameter; Eco Candle Wicks Loose are designed for 2 inch (5.08 cm) diameters; Eco Braided Wicks are for large-diameter container jars. For anything in between, burn two cured candles with two candidate wicks side by side. Keep the wick that reaches a full melt pool without soot or mushrooming, and re-test whenever you change wax or oil.
Do pillar candles need tabbed wicks?
Not when you pour into a pillar mould. The wick is threaded through the hole in the mould base with a wicking needle (₹472), sealed underneath with mould sealer (₹472 for 80 pieces) and held straight at the top. That is why the braided wick roll suits pillar lines: a 16 cm pillar wick costs about ₹1.85 of braid, and none of the roll's 100 tabs get used.
Is cotton wick cheaper if I buy 1,000 instead of 100?
Not on CSI's listed prices. Cotton Braided Wicks Ready Made cost ₹12 per wick at every pack size, from 10 to 1,000, and Eco Candle Wicks are flat at ₹5.90 (C1) and ₹9.44 (C2). The metre packs are the exception: the 10 m pack is 12.5–14.3% cheaper per metre than the 5 m pack. So buy the pack that covers your next run, and take recurring or larger volumes to WhatsApp for a quote.
