Using 54 as a yardstick for your own production
54 candles of 200 g per 10 kg is the figure CSI's guides treat as the standard unit. Its most useful job is not planning but checking. Pour a full 10 kg bag into 200 g jars, count the finished candles, and 54 tells you how much you lost.
Audit a bag
Keep a simple record: bag date, good candles, rejects, and what was left in the pot. If a bag gave you 48 good candles, six are missing. At 184 g each, that is 1,104 g of wax, about 11% of the bag and more than twice the 5% allowance. Somewhere between the melter and the shelf, over a kilogram went astray.
Where the kilogram usually goes: Jars filled a little above the line, a thick film left in a cold jug, rejects that could not be remelted cleanly, and test pours nobody wrote down. Weigh one finished candle in every ten; overfill is the most common and least visible loss.
The oil yardstick
The same arithmetic works for oil. Each candle takes 16 g, and a kilogram of oil covers 62 candles. One 1 kg bottle therefore covers a 10 kg bag of wax with enough to spare for eight more candles. If your oil runs out before your wax, you are over-pouring the fragrance.
