At 300 g (wide jars and long-burn candles), each candle holds 276 g of wax and 24 g of oil. 10 kg makes 36 candles, with 64 g of wax left over.

Wick at this size. Larger jars usually need a thicker or double wick. See the wick guide by jar diameter.

Budgeting a 10 kg bag for the wick tests 300 g candles need

A 300 g candle is a long-burn luxury jar, and at this size the wick decides whether a customer buys a second one. Too thin and it tunnels, leaving a wall of unburned wax. Too thick and it smokes, soots the glass and overheats the jar. The maker searching this is usually about to find out which.

Testing eats into the 36

10 kg makes 36 candles at 300 g. Wick testing takes a share of those before any go on sale. Test three wick options with two candles each and that is six candles, or 6 × 276 g = 1,656 g of wax, about a sixth of the bag. Plan the first bag as 30 saleable candles, not 36.

Burn tests at this size take time, because a wide pool needs hours to reach the edge. Test in the kind of room and season your customers will burn in; a pool that behaves on a cool December evening can run hotter in May.

Reading the test wrong: Judging after one short burn. A wide jar that tunnels on its first burn rarely recovers. Let each test candle burn long enough to melt to the edge, then check for a full pool, a steady flame and clean glass.

One thick wick or two thin ones

CSI lists Eco Candle Wicks Thick (C2) at ₹9.44 and Thin (C1) at ₹5.90. A wide jar often needs either one thick wick or two, and a two-wick jar needs twice the wicks you first counted. Two C1 wicks cost a little more than one C2, and centring a pair takes more care. Neither option suits every jar; your jar diameter and your wax decide.

The wax is not where to save

At 300 g, the wax is ₹140.04 per candle in CSI 464 and ₹117.24 in Natural Soy Pearl Wax. A properly tested wick does more for that candle than a cheaper wax would, because a jar that tunnels leaves much of the wax you paid for sitting unburned in the glass.

What to ask CSI
Send CSI your jar's inside diameter and the wax you are using on WhatsApp, and ask which of their wicks to start testing with. Treat the answer as a starting point, then confirm it with your own burn tests.

Argue against interest
Buy the wax your candle needs, not the bag that looks professional.
We would sell more by telling you to buy 10 kg. On most of our waxes it is not cheaper per kilogram, and wax you cannot use before summer is a storage problem.
Price the candle, not the kilogram.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. We publish every pack price, so every per-kilogram and per-candle figure here can be checked against the product pages — including the ones that show a bigger bag is not cheaper.

Prices are taken from live CSI stock in September 2026. Where a product page does not publish a specification, this guide says so rather than filling the gap.
