1,000 candles: fix the size before you ask for a price
At 1,000 candles the spread between sizes is enormous. The same candle count needs 96.6 kg of wax at 100 g and 289.8 kg at 300 g, three times as much. A buyer who asks "how much for 1,000 candles" without naming a size cannot be quoted sensibly, and neither can you.
Who asks this question
Makers searching for 1,000 candles usually have a new channel: a retailer, a hamper company, an event agency or a large gifting client. The first thing to agree with that customer is the fill weight, in grams, of the finished candle. A nominal jar size in millilitres is not the same thing, and a jar filled to a different line changes the wax by kilograms across 1,000 units.
An example makes the point. If a jar you thought held 200 g actually takes 210 g, each candle needs 210 × 0.92 = 193.2 g of wax, which is 9.2 g more. Across 1,000 candles that is 9.2 kg, almost a full 10 kg bag nobody budgeted for.
Staging deliveries
A few hundred kilograms of wax is a storage problem in most studios. Rather than taking the whole quantity at once, agree a staged plan: enough for your first production block, then the rest as you go. On CSI 464 the price per kilogram is the same at 1 kg, 5 kg and 10 kg, so splitting the order costs nothing on the listed price. The one wax with a larger listed pack, Natural Soy Pearl Wax at 50 kg, is also the same per kilogram at 5, 10 and 50 kg.
Risk in staging: A later delivery may come from a different production lot. Pour a test candle from the first bag of every new delivery and compare it with a retained candle from the first, before committing a full melt.
