Planning 100 candles for a first stall or gifting order
If you are searching for 100 candles, you are probably not running a factory. You are filling a table at a weekend market, or you have promised a friend's shop, a school fete or a family function a batch of gifts.
A stall is never one size
Market tables sell a mix. Suppose you plan 40 tins at 100 g, 40 jars at 200 g and 20 wide jars at 300 g. The wax is 40 × 92 g + 40 × 184 g + 20 × 276 g = 3,680 g + 7,360 g + 5,520 g, or 16.56 kg. Add 5% and you need about 17.4 kg. That falls between the 150 g and 200 g rows, so cost a mixed stall from your own size mix.
Where it goes wrong: You buy for 100 candles and pour exactly 100, then find three jars with sinkholes and two with a wick off centre. At this scale a handful of rejects is a real share of the table. Pour a few extra of your best seller rather than exactly the number on your list.
Small runs lose more to the pot
Pot residue does not shrink with the order. The film left in a jug after every pour is much the same whether you made ten candles or forty, so a maker melting in several short sessions loses proportionally more than a studio melting 10 kg at once. The 5% allowance is a planning figure. If you melt in many small pots, note what actually came back and adjust the next order.
Heat, rain and a table outdoors
An outdoor stall in April or May can sit in 40°C sun. Heavily scented soy candles can sweat in that heat, and a pillar can slump. Keep stock shaded and boxed until it goes on the table. In the monsoon, frosting on soy is cosmetic, but buyers at a stall judge by eye, so set a few clean display pieces aside.
Unsold stock is the other risk. If the stall is a trial, buy the wax for the first 100 and wait to see what sold before reordering. CSI 464 costs the same per kilogram at 1 kg, 5 kg and 10 kg, so staging a small order costs you nothing on price.
