250 candles for a first corporate client
A 250-candle enquiry usually arrives with a logo, a deadline and a purchasing contact who has never made a candle. The wax is the easy part. The hard part is that a corporate buyer approves one sample and then expects 250 identical copies.
Plan for approval pieces and rejects
Before the order is confirmed, the client will want to see and burn a sample. Make those from a 1 kg bag: at 200 g it gives five candles, enough for two approval pieces, one to keep and two to burn test yourself. Only buy the full quantity after sign-off.
Then make more than 250. Corporate orders get checked piece by piece, and a jar with a wet spot or an uneven top may be sent back even though it would burn perfectly well. Plan on 5% extra candles: 250 × 1.05 is 262.5, so pour 263. At 200 g those 13 spares need 13 × 184 g = 2,392 g of wax on top of the table, before the 5% pot allowance.
Common mistake: Quoting the client from the exact wax figure, then discovering that the spare candles, the approval samples and the pot residue were never costed. Price the job from the quantity you buy, not the quantity you pour.
Timing around the festive calendar
Most first corporate orders are Diwali gifts. In 2026 Navratri begins on 11 October, Dhanteras falls on 6 November and Diwali on 8 November. Work backwards from there: the client needs boxed candles before their own dispatch, and your candles need curing time before they are packed. Buy the wax once the sample is approved, but well before Navratri, when makers across the country are ordering at once.
Keep one wax and one order
A client who approved one finish will notice if half the order looks different. Buy the whole quantity of one wax in a single order rather than topping up from another product mid-run.
