Split it into batches
At 10 kg per melt, 96.6 kg is 10 batches. Pour the same wax, oil, load and wick in every batch, log each bag's date, and keep one candle per batch as a retained sample.
Turning 500 candles into melts your equipment can handle
The batch plan above assumes a 10 kg melt. Many makers who reach 500 candles are still melting in a pot that holds far less. The number of batches is set by your equipment, not by the size of the bag.
Count melts from your pot, not the bag
If your melter holds 5 kg of wax comfortably, the 96.6 kg needed for 500 candles at 200 g is 20 melts, not 10. At 100 g, 48.3 kg is ten 5 kg melts. At 300 g, 144.9 kg is 29. Write the melt count down before you promise a date, because every melt carries its own heating, pouring and cleaning time.
Each melt also leaves its own residue. Twice as many melts means roughly twice the film left in the pot and twice the chances of a spill. If you move from 10 kg melts to 5 kg melts, expect the 5% allowance to be used up rather than spare.
Weigh the oil for every melt
At 8% of total candle weight, the oil is 8/92 of the wax. For a 5 kg melt that is 5,000 × 8 ÷ 92, about 435 g of oil; for a 10 kg melt, about 870 g. Weigh it each time rather than pouring from the bottle by eye, and write the figure on your batch sheet.
Storing the wax between melts
At 500 candles you will have bags open for weeks. Fold and clip each opened bag, keep bags off the floor and away from a wall that takes the afternoon sun, and date each one as it arrives. In the monsoon, keep them clear of damp outside walls.
If the run falls between April and June, finished candles also need a place cooler than a closed room in a north or west Indian summer, which routinely reaches 40–45°C. Heavily scented candles can sweat in that heat.
Where this page fits
This page overlaps an older CSI guide, so it takes a narrower job and leaves the rest to that guide. In the Candle Business series, CSI-945 (wax for 500 candles) covers the business side.

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. We publish every pack price, so every per-kilogram and per-candle figure here can be checked against the product pages — including the ones that show a bigger bag is not cheaper.
Prices are taken from live CSI stock in September 2026. Where a product page does not publish a specification, this guide says so rather than filling the gap.

Order plans add a 5% wastage allowance (10% where stated for festive buffers). "Cheapest listed packs" is the lowest-cost combination of listed pack sizes, preferring fewer bags when prices tie within a few rupees. Candle counts are rounded down. Costs are core materials only and exclude jar, label, packaging, labour, freight and GST unless stated. Wax stated fragrance maximums are the wax maker's formulation limits, not regulatory limits. Pack sizes not listed on the store (2, 20, 25, 100 kg) are shown as combinations of listed packs; larger quantities are quoted on WhatsApp. Diwali 2026 falls on 8 November.
