How Much Wax Do I Need to Make 500 Candles?
शेयर करना
How much should I buy? Add a 3–5% allowance, then buy to the next whole kilo, not the next round bag. For 500 × 200g at 4% that is 96 kg — for example nine 10 kg bags, a 5 kg bag and a 1 kg bag.
Why not just buy 100 kg? Because at 500 candles the round-up leaves 4.32 kg beyond the allowance — about 23 candles' wax — worth ₹1,724.54 to ₹2,751.84 depending on the wax. At 100 candles the same habit left four candles' wax; here it's real money.
Is 100 kg of soy wax a listed pack? No. CSI lists soy waxes up to 10 kg, plus 50 kg of Natural Soy Pearl Wax. Larger quantities are combinations of listed packs at the listed per-kilo ceiling, and quotes are handled on WhatsApp.
Wax for 500 candles, by candle size and load
Fragrance load is part of the finished candle. A 200g candle at 8% is 16g of oil and 184g of wax, so the wax for 500 is 500 × 184g = 92 kg. The table runs that for five sizes at the three loads that matter on CSI waxes, with the oil alongside so you can see both sides of the load decision. 8% is a sensible starting point on any wax; 10% is the load recommended on the Luxury Soy Wax Chunks page and the ceiling stated for CSI 464; 13% is the ceiling stated for Chunks and CSI 468.
| Candle size | Wax @ 8% | Wax @ 10% | Wax @ 13% | Oil @ 8% / 10% / 13% | Wax @ 8% + 4% | Buy to the kilo |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 50 g | 23 kg | 22.5 kg | 21.75 kg | 2 / 2.5 / 3.25 kg | 23.92 kg | 24 kg |
| 100 g | 46 kg | 45 kg | 43.5 kg | 4 / 5 / 6.5 kg | 47.84 kg | 48 kg |
| 150 g | 69 kg | 67.5 kg | 65.25 kg | 6 / 7.5 / 9.75 kg | 71.76 kg | 72 kg |
| 200 g | 92 kg | 90 kg | 87 kg | 8 / 10 / 13 kg | 95.68 kg | 96 kg |
| 250 g | 115 kg | 112.5 kg | 108.75 kg | 10 / 12.5 / 16.25 kg | 119.6 kg | 120 kg |
The load columns carry a trap at this volume. Moving a 500 × 200g run from 8% to 13% takes 5 kg off the wax — and puts 5 kg onto the oil. On Luxury Soy Wax Chunks at ₹599.90 a kilo the wax saving is ₹2,999.50; even on an inexpensive oil such as British Rose at ₹3,068 a kilo, the extra fragrance costs ₹15,340. A higher load is a throw decision, proven in a cured test jar, never a way to buy less wax. How much oil the run needs at each load is its own question, answered in how much fragrance oil do I need for 500 candles.
Why rounding up stops being free at 500 candles
For a 100-candle run, buying the candle size ÷ 10 in kilos was a neat rule: 20 kg for 200g candles, with about four candles' wax left over after the allowance. The same logic at 500 says buy the candle size ÷ 2 — 100 kg for 200g candles. It still works. It just stops being cheap, because the spare scales with the run: five times the candles, five times the idle wax.
| Candle size | Planned (+4%) | Round-number buy | Spare beyond allowance | ≈ candles' wax | Value at Eco Soy CSI 400 (₹399.20/kg) | Value at CSI 468 (₹637/kg) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 50 g | 23.92 kg | 25 kg | 1.08 kg | 23 | ₹431.14 | ₹687.96 |
| 100 g | 47.84 kg | 50 kg | 2.16 kg | 23 | ₹862.27 | ₹1,375.92 |
| 150 g | 71.76 kg | 75 kg | 3.24 kg | 23 | ₹1,293.41 | ₹2,063.88 |
| 200 g | 95.68 kg | 100 kg | 4.32 kg | 23 | ₹1,724.54 | ₹2,751.84 |
| 250 g | 119.6 kg | 125 kg | 5.4 kg | 23 | ₹2,155.68 | ₹3,439.80 |
Every size leaves roughly 23 candles' wax sitting in a bag after the run, on top of the allowance. That wax isn't lost — it will make candles eventually — but it is cash spent weeks before it is needed, and it is a partly-used bag you then have to store, seal and remember. The alternative is simple: most CSI soy waxes are listed in 1 kg and 5 kg packs as well as 10 kg, and most are flat-priced per kilo across them, so you can stop the order at the kilo your plan needs without paying more per kilo for the privilege.
Buying to the kilo: the 200g case, wax by wax
Here is the 95.68 kg a 500 × 200g run plans for, bought both ways in each CSI soy wax. The "to the kilo" route uses the largest bags first, then 5 kg, then 1 kg, to reach 96 kg. No 100 kg pack is listed for any of these waxes, so both columns are combinations of listed packs — and the listed per-kilo price is the ceiling for either.
| Wax (stated load) | Round up: 100 kg | Cash | To the kilo: 96 kg | Cash | Saved | Wax in a 200g candle |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Eco Soy CSI 400 (not stated) | 20 × 5 kg | ₹39,920 | 19 × 5 kg + 1 kg | ₹38,323 | ₹1,597 | ₹73.45 |
| Natural Soy Pearl Wax (not stated) | 2 × 50 kg | ₹42,480 | 50 + 4 × 10 + 5 + 1 kg | ₹40,806 | ₹1,674 | ₹78.16 |
| Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 (up to 10%) | 10 × 10 kg | ₹50,740 | 9 × 10 + 5 + 1 kg | ₹48,710.40 | ₹2,029.60 | ₹93.36 |
| Luxury Soy Wax Chunks (8–13%) | 10 × 10 kg | ₹59,990 | 9 × 10 + 5 + 1 kg | ₹57,585 | ₹2,405 | ₹110.38 |
| Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468 (up to 13%) | 10 × 10 kg | ₹63,700 | 9 × 10 + 5 + 1 kg | ₹61,165 | ₹2,535 | ₹117.21 |
| Soy Pillar Wax (pillars; not stated) | 10 × 10 kg | ₹60,000 | 9 × 10 + 5 + 1 kg | ₹57,600 | ₹2,400 | ₹110.40 |
The saving is almost exactly 4 kg of wax at the listed price — ₹1,597 on the cheapest wax, ₹2,535 on the dearest — and the cost is one or two extra small packs. For a maker who will pour the same wax again, the round-up isn't wrong: the 4.32 kg goes into the next run. But at 500 candles, the question "will I reorder this wax within a few weeks?" deserves an honest answer before you round up, because on most waxes the difference is now more than a 5 kg bag of Eco Soy CSI 400 costs.
Wax cost for 500 candles at five candle sizes
The same to-the-kilo method, applied to every size in the first table. Use it to price a range before you commit: if your 500 candles are 150g jars, you are buying 72 kg, not 96. All figures at 8% with a 4% allowance, in listed packs.
| Wax | 50 g · 24 kg | 100 g · 48 kg | 150 g · 72 kg | 200 g · 96 kg | 250 g · 120 kg |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Eco Soy CSI 400 | ₹9,580 | ₹19,161 | ₹28,742 | ₹38,323 | ₹47,904 |
| Natural Soy Pearl Wax | ₹10,296 | ₹20,466 | ₹30,636 | ₹40,806 | ₹50,976 |
| Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 | ₹12,177.60 | ₹24,355.20 | ₹36,532.80 | ₹48,710.40 | ₹60,888 |
| Luxury Soy Wax Chunks | ₹14,394 | ₹28,788 | ₹43,191 | ₹57,585 | ₹71,988 |
| Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468 | ₹15,340 | ₹30,615 | ₹45,890 | ₹61,165 | ₹76,440 |
| Soy Pillar Wax | ₹14,400 | ₹28,800 | ₹43,200 | ₹57,600 | ₹72,000 |
Pack routes behind the table: 24 kg is 2 × 10 kg + 4 × 1 kg (Eco Soy CSI 400: 4 × 5 kg + 4 × 1 kg); 48 kg is 4 × 10 + 5 + 3 × 1 kg (Eco Soy: 9 × 5 + 3 × 1); 72 kg is 7 × 10 + 2 × 1 kg (Natural Soy Pearl Wax: 50 + 2 × 10 + 2 × 1; Eco Soy: 14 × 5 + 2 × 1); 96 kg is 9 × 10 + 5 + 1 kg (Pearl: 50 + 4 × 10 + 5 + 1; Eco Soy: 19 × 5 + 1); 120 kg is 12 × 10 kg (Pearl: 2 × 50 + 2 × 10; Eco Soy: 24 × 5). Across the container waxes, a 96 kg order spans ₹22,842 from cheapest to dearest — ₹43.76 inside each 200g candle. As at every volume, that per-candle gap is smaller than the gap between a plain jar and a premium one, so choose the wax for how it performs in your jar first.
A real 500 is several sizes: add the lines
A range usually has a hero size, a smaller gift size and perhaps a large statement candle. The calculation is the same per line; you just add the lines before applying the allowance and the packs. Here is a 500-candle range of 250 × 200g, 150 × 150g and 100 × 100g, all at 8% in one wax.
| Wax | Packs for 79 kg | Cash | Against 500 × 200g (96 kg) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Eco Soy CSI 400 | 15 × 5 kg + 4 × 1 kg | ₹31,536 | ₹6,787 less |
| Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 | 7 × 10 kg + 5 kg + 4 × 1 kg | ₹40,084.60 | ₹8,625.80 less |
| Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468 | 7 × 10 kg + 5 kg + 4 × 1 kg | ₹50,375 | ₹10,790 less |
The point of the example is not the specific range; it's that the order is set by the mix, and a planner who assumes every candle is 200g over-orders by 17 kg here. Write the range as lines, weigh one jar per line, and the wax order follows. If some of those lines are pillars in Soy Pillar Wax and the rest are containers, run the calculation separately per wax — never pool two waxes into one allowance.
Four waxes, four routes to 96 kg
The pack ladder differs from wax to wax, and at 500 candles that difference decides how an order is built. Each card shows every listed pack and how many 200g candles at 8% it makes.

Placing a 96 kg order
A wax order near 100 kg is where buying stops being a cart and starts being a small purchasing decision. Three things make it go well.
One wax, one order, one recipe. Five hundred candles poured from two different waxes are two recipes, with two wick tests and two sets of temperatures. If the 96 kg has to be split — for cash or storage — split it by time, not by wax: two deliveries of the same product. The two-order approach for a whole raw-material list is set out in raw materials for 1,000 candles; the same logic applies to wax alone at 500.
Plan at the listed ceiling, then ask. No CSI soy wax lists a 100 kg pack, and CSI 464's 25 kg format appears in product text but not as a variant. The totals on this page are what the listed packs cost, which makes them the maximum you should budget. A WhatsApp quote on the consolidated quantity can only improve on that; we don't publish or promise what it will be. If you'll repeat the order monthly, say so — a recurring 90–100 kg is a different conversation, covered in buying 100 kg of soy wax every month.
Check the melter maths before the wax arrives. Ninety-two kilos poured through a 10 kg melter is ten loads; through a 1-litre mini melter it is not a realistic plan. The full load-by-load picture for bigger runs is in how much wax do I need to make 1,000 candles. For the rest of the 500-candle list — oil, wicks, jars and labels — see raw materials required to make 500 candles.
CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. A wax supplier gains nothing by telling a 500-candle buyer to order 96 kg instead of 100 kg. We're telling you anyway, with the pack routes and the rupee difference for every wax, because a maker who plans to the kilo keeps cash for the next run — and places it with the supplier whose numbers held up.
Every price and pack size is taken from live CSI stock in September 2026 and links to the product page, where current pricing always takes precedence. Loads and temperatures are quoted only where a product page states them — up to 10% for CSI 464, up to 13% for CSI 468, 8–13% with 10% recommended for Luxury Soy Wax Chunks — and they are wax formulation limits, not regulatory limits. Eco Soy CSI 400, Natural Soy Pearl Wax and Soy Pillar Wax state no maximum load. The planning allowance, the mixed range and the idle-wax values are our calculations and examples, not measured rates.
