Quick answers — read this first
Should I reduce the fragrance load or change the wax first? Neither, first. Change storage first, because it is free and it is the variable that actually changed between February and May. Then cut the load by two points if you must, because that is cheap and reversible. A grade change is the most expensive route and the slowest to prove — moving 100 jars from Luxury Soy Wax Chunks to CSI 464 changes the pour window as well as the price.

My load is inside the wax's stated maximum. Why is it still sweating? Because a stated maximum is the wax manufacturer's formulation figure, not a promise at 42°C. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks states up to 13% of total wax weight, with 8% as the starting point and 10% as the recommended figure — and that ladder exists for a reason. At Indian summer temperatures the practical ceiling sits below the stated one.

Is a coconut-soy blend the summer upgrade it looks like? Not for heat. Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468's page gives a melting point of 50–53°C and a pour temperature of 58–60°C, the lowest published working figures in the CSI soy range. It is a beautiful finish wax and it costs ₹10.20 more per 200 g jar than Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, but a lower melting point is not what a Nagpur May is asking for.

How will I know which change actually fixed it? Only by running them side by side. Four sets of three jars — control, lower load, different grade, better storage — poured on one afternoon and scored 0 to 3 at day 3, day 7 and day 14. Materials come to ₹2,573.92. Any other method confounds the change you made with the week's weather.
The short answer
Storage first, because it is free: an interior cupboard at a steady 25–30°C with lids on beats every paid fix, and it is usually the variable that changed when the season did.
Then the load, not the grade: dropping from 11% to 9% on Luxury Soy Wax Chunks saves ₹18.22 a candle and is reversible in October. A grade change is not.

Straight answer
My soy candles sweat in the Indian summer — do I change the wax or cut the fragrance load?
Start by noticing that the question offers two routes and there are three, and the one it leaves out is both the cheapest and the most likely. Nothing about your wax or your recipe changed between February and May. The room did. Sweating is fragrance oil coming back out of the wax it was dissolved into, and warmth is what drives it: the wax softens, the oil becomes more mobile, and what the wax could hold at 26°C it cannot hold at 40°C. So the first move is storage, which costs nothing — an interior cupboard or a shaded inner room at a steady 25–30°C, lids on, cartons closed, stock off any wall that takes the afternoon sun, and dispatch scheduled for the cooler part of the day. The second move is the load. On Luxury Soy Wax Chunks the page states up to 13% of total wax weight, with 8% as the starting point and 10% as the recommended figure, and that ladder is telling you something: a maximum is a formulation limit, not a guarantee at 42°C. Dropping from 11% to 9% saves ₹18.22 a candle on Cinnamon Vanilla, is reversible in October, and very often ends the problem on its own. The third move — changing grade — is the expensive one and belongs last. Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 is cheaper per kilo but caps you at 10%, so it is a load reduction wearing a different label; Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468 has the lowest published melting point in the range at 50–53°C, which is the wrong direction for heat however good the finish is. And CSI does not publish melt points for most of the soy shelf, so you cannot shop for a harder wax from the specification sheets — you have to test. Which is the real answer to the question: pour four sets of three jars on one afternoon, change one thing per set, score them 0 to 3 at day 3, day 7 and day 14 for ₹2,573.92, and let the jars tell you whether it was the shelf, the load or the wax.
One line: Fix the storage first because it is free and it is what changed, then take two points off the load, and only change grade if twelve jars poured side by side say the wax is genuinely the difference.

The question offers two routes. There are three, and the third is free

Ask what changed. It was not the wax, and it was not the recipe.

A candle that behaved from November to February and started beading in April has not developed a manufacturing fault. The same wax, the same oil, the same percentage and the same process are now being asked to hold together twenty degrees warmer. Sweating is fragrance oil leaving the wax it was dissolved into and collecting on the surface; heat is what makes the wax softer and the oil more mobile, so the amount a given wax can hold in solution is lower in May than it was in December. Every one of the three routes below works on that single sentence from a different side.

Route 2 lowers how much oil the wax is being asked to hold. Route 3 changes what is doing the holding. Route 1 changes how warm it gets. Only Route 1 attacks the thing that actually changed, and it is the only one of the three that costs nothing — which is why a supplier who would happily sell you a different wax is putting it first.

Changing the wax and the load in the same batch because summer is already here. It is the most understandable mistake on this page and it teaches you nothing you can use next April. If the new batch holds, you will pay for both changes forever and never know which one was necessary; if it still sweats, you have two new unknowns. If the season is genuinely on top of you, take the free route now — move the stock somewhere cooler today — and run the twelve-jar test alongside normal production rather than instead of it.

Ten minutes of triage before you spend anything

Four questions. They will not fix the candle, but they stop you fixing the wrong one.

Pick up three jars from the batch that is misbehaving and answer these in writing. The answers decide which of the three routes is even worth testing.

Is it actually oil?Touch the surface with a clean fingertip and then with a dry tissue. Fragrance sweat is oily, it smells strongly of the fragrance, it wipes onto the tissue and it leaves a slight film. A white powdery bloom that does not transfer is frosting, which is a crystal effect and a different conversation entirely. A bright, silvery patch behind the glass that flashes as you tilt the jar is an air gap, not oil. If nothing transfers to the tissue, stop here — you do not have a sweating problem.

Where is it, and when did it appear?Beads on the top surface within a day or two of pouring usually mean an overload or a dosing problem rather than a heat problem. A film that appears on jars that have been sitting for weeks, in April but not in January, is a heat and storage story. Beads under a closed lid, on stock in a carton, in the warmest corner of the room, are the clearest version of the same story. Write down the date, the room temperature and where the jar was standing.

Does it come back after you wipe it?Wipe three jars clean with a tissue, keep one in the same place, one in the coolest interior room you have, and one inside a closed carton in that cool room. Check all three after 72 hours. If only the first one beads again, you have your answer and it is Route C. This single check has settled more of these questions than any product on this page.

What does the batch record say?Find the percentage, the weight it was calculated on, the add temperature and the stir time. If the load was calculated on the finished candle weight rather than the wax weight, an intended 10% was really 11.1% of the wax, and you may have an overload that the summer simply exposed. CSI product pages state loads as a percentage of total wax weight throughout.
THE THREE-JAR WIPE TEST
The wipe test in step three is the highest-value twenty minutes in this entire article, because it separates a formulation problem from an environment problem without buying anything. A jar that stays dry in a cool cupboard and beads on a warm shelf has a wax that is perfectly capable of holding its oil — at the right temperature. In that case cutting the load or changing the grade is paying money to solve a problem that a shelf change solves for nothing.

Route 2 — reduce the load: how much, and what it really costs

A stated maximum is a formulation limit. It was never a promise about a Nagpur afternoon.

Read the Luxury Soy Wax Chunks page carefully and it does not simply give you 13%. It gives a ladder: 8% as a starting point, 10% as the recommended figure, 13% as the maximum with the instruction to burn-test thoroughly at that level. A maker sitting at 11% is between the recommended figure and the maximum, which is a legitimate place to be in a cool month and an ambitious one in May. Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468 also states up to 13%; Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 states up to 10%; Eco Soy CSI 400 does not publish a figure, so ask on WhatsApp before you dose it.

Check the oil's page as well, because it carries its own range and the lower of the two always governs. Cinnamon Vanilla states up to 13% for candles, so at 11% the pair sits inside what each page allows — which is exactly why this is a heat question and not a dosing one. Many other CSI oils state 6–10% for soy, and a maker running one of those at 11% has a more ordinary overload on their hands.

Two points off the load saves ₹18.22 a candle and ₹1,821.92 across a hundred. That is the pleasant part. The honest part is what you might lose: some scent strength, sometimes. Whether you lose any is a question the twelve-jar test answers directly, because Set B is scored for hot throw at day 14 alongside the control. In a well-wicked jar with a full melt pool, the difference between 11% and 9% is frequently inaudible, and a candle that does not sweat is worth more than two percentage points that nobody can smell.

Dropping the load and the wick size at the same time to save money. Sweating and weak throw are different problems and a smaller wick makes the second one worse. If you take two points off the load, keep the wick exactly as it is for at least one full test round, so that the throw score at day 14 is a fair comparison. Change the wick afterwards if the pool tells you to, and change it on its own.

Route 3 — change the grade: what CSI's pages actually let you compare

You want a harder wax. The specification you would need to shop for one is mostly not published — so say so and test instead.

This is the section where a raw-material supplier is supposed to sell you an upgrade, and there is a limit to how much of that we can honestly do. Melt point is the figure that would tell you how a wax behaves in a 42°C room, and across CSI's soy shelf it is largely not published. Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468 publishes a melting point of 50–53°C. Eco Soy CSI 400 does not publish one. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks publishes working temperatures rather than a melt point, and Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464's page gives 80–90°C as the working range for melting and pouring. If you need those figures for a specification sheet or a buyer's questionnaire, ask for them on WhatsApp rather than inferring them from a blog.

What you can compare honestly is what the pages do state, and one of those comparisons cuts against the obvious upgrade. CSI 468's melting point of 50–53°C is the lowest published working figure in the range, and a closed delivery van standing in an Ahmedabad car park, or a metal-roofed godown in Nagpur in May, is not far from that number. It is an excellent container wax with a page describing an ultra-smooth finish, minimal frosting and excellent glass adhesion, and it costs ₹10.20 more per 200 g jar than Luxury Soy Wax Chunks. What it is not is a heat-resistance upgrade, and buying it as one would be an expensive misreading.

There is one more option on the shelf that people ask about, and it deserves a straight answer rather than a sale. Vybar Additive is ₹156.00 for 50 g, and its page says it is compatible with soy at 0.5–2% of wax weight — the lower end, 0.5–1%, for soy — added to the melted wax before fragrance and colour, with claims of improved fragrance retention, a smoother surface and less sweating. Our position across this series is unchanged: treat it as an optional, controlled experiment, not as a substitute for fixing temperature or storage, and note that single-pour soys such as Eco Soy CSI 400 are sold as needing no additives at all. If you want to test it, test it as a fifth set in the same run, not as a change to production.

Route 1 — storage, packing and dispatch: the free one

Nothing in your recipe changed in April. Everything about where the candle sits did.

This route has no product to sell and it is the one we would put money on. The aim is simple: keep finished stock below the temperature at which the wax stops holding its oil, for as much of its life as you control. You control the cure shelf, the storage cupboard, the packing bench and the hour of dispatch. You do not control the van, and pretending otherwise is how brands end up blaming waxes.

Be honest with yourself about the last leg. A parcel can sit in a closed vehicle at midday in Delhi, Ahmedabad or Nagpur at temperatures no container wax on any supplier's shelf is designed to shrug off, and CSI does not sell insulated packaging or temperature-controlled freight. What a maker can do is reduce the number of hot hours: pour smaller festive batches closer to the date, book earlier dispatch slots, and tell the customer in the box that a candle which has travelled should be stood upright somewhere cool for a day before it is lit. That last sentence has rescued more summer orders than any wax change.

The twelve-jar test: four sets, three checkpoints, fourteen days

One afternoon of pouring buys you an answer you can use every summer from now on.

Pour twelve jars on the same afternoon: three each of four sets. Set A is your current recipe in your current storage — the control. Set B is the same wax with the load cut by two points. Set C is a different grade at its own stated ceiling. Set D is the control recipe held in cool, sealed storage. Materials come to ₹2,573.92, which is roughly ₹214.49 a jar, and the comparison you get is between jars that lived through the same fortnight of weather — the only comparison that means anything in a season that changes week to week.

Reading the result — and what to do when it is a tie

Decide the rules before the scores come in, or you will read the jars you already wanted to win.

Write these rules on the scoring sheet before day 3, so that the decision is made by the test and not by whichever route you had already half-decided on.

Two rules of interpretation matter more than the table. First, a gap of one point out of three is a tie, not a result — noise in a tissue test is easily that large, and a tie should always be settled in favour of the cheaper option. Second, run the whole thing again in a different week before you rebuild production around it. A fortnight in early May and a fortnight in late June are not the same experiment, and a result that repeats is worth five times a result that does not.

Concluding from a single batch in a single week that your wax is faulty. The weather is the largest uncontrolled variable in this test and it moves more than anything you changed. This is why Set D exists: it is the same recipe as the control, so any difference between A and D is temperature and nothing else. Read the third row carefully, because it is the most interesting line in the table and the least comfortable one for us to print: the cheapest route on paper is the grade change to CSI 464, and it saves ₹2,742.96 across a hundred candles — but it saves that money mostly by capping your load at 10%, which is Route 2 with a new invoice attached. If the twelve-jar test says the load was the problem, you can have that saving without changing wax at all, simply by dosing Luxury Soy Wax Chunks at 9% and keeping the pour window, the wick and the process you already know.

Set the whole table against the calendar. Diwali 2026 falls on 8 November 2026, and the sweating season in most of India is behind you by then — but the wedding and corporate gifting run from April to June is not, and neither is next summer. Running this test in September, when the weather is moderating, gives you a clean control and an answer in hand before the April orders arrive. A test run in the third week of May, on stock that is already leaving the studio, is a test you will not trust.

Take three jars from the batch that is sweating, wipe them clean, and put one on the usual shelf, one in the coolest interior room you have and one inside a closed carton in that room. Check all three in 72 hours. If only the shelf jar beads again, you have your answer, it cost nothing, and you should keep your recipe exactly as it is and spend the money you were about to spend on wax on somewhere better to keep stock.

Frequently asked questions

Does sweating mean I used too much fragrance oil?
Not necessarily. It means more oil than the wax can hold at that temperature. A load of 11% on Luxury Soy Wax Chunks is inside the stated maximum of 13% and can still bead at 40°C while staying perfectly dry at 26°C. Wipe three jars clean and keep one on the usual shelf, one in a cool interior room and one in a closed carton in that room; if only the shelf jar beads again in 72 hours, the load is not your problem.
Which CSI soy wax handles Indian summer heat best?
CSI does not publish melt points for most of the soy range, so we will not rank them on heat resistance from published data. What the pages do state: Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468 states a melting point of 50–53°C — the lowest published working figure on the shelf, which makes it the wrong choice if heat is your concern, however good the finish is. For a documented comparison, ask on WhatsApp rather than working from a blog.
How much should I reduce the fragrance load by?
Two percentage points, and no more, in the first attempt. Going from 11% to 9% on a 200 g jar takes the oil from 22 g to 18 g, saves ₹18.22 a candle and ₹1,821.92 across a hundred, and is small enough to be reversible when the weather turns. Score the hot throw at day 14 alongside the control so you know whether you gave anything up.
Is sweating dangerous, or just ugly?
It is a cosmetic and packaging problem, not a safety one — but oil sitting on the surface is oil that is no longer in the wax, so a badly sweating candle can also read as weaker once the surface film burns off. Wipe the jar, store it cool and upright, and judge the scent after it has been somewhere cool for a day. Do not light a candle with oil pooled around the wick until it has been wiped.
Will Vybar stop my soy candles sweating?
Its page says it is compatible with soy at 0.5–2% of wax weight — the lower end, 0.5–1%, for soy — added to the melted wax before fragrance and colour, with claims including less sweating. Treat it as a controlled experiment rather than a fix: run it as an extra set in the same twelve-jar test, and note that single-pour soys such as Eco Soy CSI 400 are sold as needing no additives at all. It is not a substitute for correcting storage or dose.
How do I stop candles sweating in transit when I ship across India?
You cannot control a delivery vehicle, and no container wax on any supplier's shelf is designed for a closed van at midday. What you can control is the number of hot hours: pour smaller batches closer to the dispatch date, book morning collections, avoid hand-overs before a long weekend, and put a care note in the box — Candle Care Stickers are ₹413.00 for 500, or ₹0.83 a candle — telling the customer to stand the candle somewhere cool for a day before lighting it.
