The decision is made by the candle, not the budget. Where a ceiling is published by the wax manufacturer it is stated below; where it is not, this page says so. Ceilings are formulation limits — how much oil that wax is built to hold — not regulatory limits.

Batch-to-batch consistency, and why it costs you a testing cycle

Soy is agricultural, so small variation between batches is normal even within one named grade — it shows in how fast the pool opens, how the top sets, how much frosting appears. The fix is not a wax that never varies; it is controlling the variable you can, which grade you buy, and re-testing when it changes.

Re-test the wick after a wax change. The wick has not changed; the melt pool has. A different wax carries heat differently, so a wick that opened a full pool in two to three hours may now under-burn or soot. Sizing method here.

The soy buying ladder — 500g, then 5kg, then 10kg

Buy in rungs. Each is unlocked by the one below it working, so a bad decision costs a small pack rather than a large bag. Worked here on CSI 464.

Now the part that argues against our own order value. On most CSI soy grades the big bag does not get you a lower price per kilogram. CSI 464 is ₹507.40 a kilogram at 1kg, 5kg and 10kg alike. Soy Pillar Wax is ₹600.00 at all four sizes. Eco Soy CSI 400 is ₹399.00 at 1kg and ₹399.20 at 5kg — fractionally dearer. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks is ₹598.00 at 500g and ₹599.90 at 10kg, so the big bag is dearer per kilo, not cheaper. Only two grades reward volume with a genuinely lower unit price: Natural Soy Pearl Wax, down ₹25.20 a kilogram from 5kg, and Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468, down ₹13.00 a kilogram at 5kg and 10kg.

So the big bag is convenience and stock cover, not discount — and the case against a large quantity of an untested grade is total, because there is no saving to offset the risk. A 500g pack at ₹260.00 is a cheap lesson; a 10kg bag at ₹5,074.00 is a cupboard full of regret.

Storing soy wax in Indian conditions

Buying well and storing badly gets the same result as buying badly. Soy is soft, it takes on what is around it, and an Indian summer store room is hostile to it. Four free rules.

And the point that catches out most Indian makers: a July pour and a December pour are not the same pour. Ambient temperature governs cooling rate, and cooling rate governs frosting, wet spots, sink holes and how smoothly the top sets — the same wax, fragrance, jar and wick give a clean candle at 22°C and a pitted one at 35°C. Record room temperature at pour beside the grade and batch date.
