Plan wax by product line, not by order

A manufacturing unit rarely makes one candle. It makes a standard jar range that carries the volume, a premium range that carries the margin, perhaps a pillar range for gifting. Each is a product line: a fixed recipe of wax, load, wick, vessel and temperatures that should come out the same in March as in November. The most useful planning decision is to assign one wax to each line and treat that pairing as fixed.

A recipe proven in one wax does not transfer to another: the wick that gives a full pool in CSI 464 may not do the same in a coconut-soy blend, and the pour temperature changes completely. If two lines draw on the same bags and one gets a rush order, the other either stops or switches wax without a test.

Read the last column first. At a fixed candle size, candles per bag barely move with the wax — 54 to 57 across every line — because load only shifts the wax share by a few grams. That makes the bag a stable planning unit across the whole floor. What moves is the rupee figure, and even that spread is only ₹23.85 per candle between CSI 464 and CSI 468 at 8%.

The spec sheet your production floor works from

A standard operating procedure needs numbers: the load you weigh to, the add and pour temperatures, and the cure before dispatch. The table below is every figure the CSI soy wax pages state. Where a page is silent the cell says so — and on a production floor a silent cell is an instruction to run your own documented test.

Three takeaways. Only three soy waxes publish a fragrance load, and those are the ones to build SOPs on without guessing. Two pages need resolving in writing before a recipe is locked: Luxury Soy Chunks gives the pour as 75–80°C in one place and 70–80°C in another, and CSI 464 gives 80–90°C for both melting point and pour. And the 60-month shelf life in cool, dry storage stated for CSI 464 and CSI 468 makes buffer stock of those two a low-risk decision.

Batch maths per melter load

CSI lists three melters: the Mini Electric Wax Melter (₹2,360, stated 1 litre), and the Electric Wax Melter (Imported) in 10 kg capacity (₹21,240) and 20 kg capacity (₹25,960), whose page states a 60–100°C display and that it can melt 10 kg of soy wax in approximately 30 minutes at 100°C. Decide first where the fragrance goes in. Weigh it into pouring pitchers and the whole capacity is wax; blend it in the melter and wax plus oil must fit the capacity together. The table shows both.

The column that changes purchasing is the oil. At 8%, one 10 kg load needs 869.6 g — inside a single 1 kg bottle, with 130 g left. At 10% it needs 1,111.1 g: one bottle plus 111 g from a second. Moving a line from 8% to 10% changes how many bottles each scent opens per week, and so how often each scent hits its reorder point. In rupees, on Lavender Fragrance Oil at ₹5,221 per kg, a 200g candle carries ₹83.54 of oil at 8% (16g) and ₹104.42 at 10% (20g) — at 10%, more than the ₹91.33 of CSI 464 wax in the same candle. Fix wick and cure before you spend on load.

The four production waxes, by line

Each card shows every listed pack, the price per kilo, and candles per pack at the load you would likely run that line at. Read the per-kilo column first: on three of the four it barely moves between the 1 kg sample and the 10 kg bag, so a sample run costs what production does.

Two waxes are deliberately not cards. Eco Soy CSI 400 is cheapest per kilo at ₹399.20 in the 5 kg pack (₹73.45 of wax per 200g candle), but a 10 kg melt means two bags (₹3,992) and its page states no fragrance load. Natural Soy Pearl Wax is ₹424.80/kg at 5, 10 and 50 kg but states no load or temperatures. Either can earn a line after the same documented test you would run on Soy Pillar Wax.

Reorder points: count cover in bags

A reorder point is the stock level at which the next order goes out so new wax arrives before the old runs out. It has three inputs: weekly wax use per line, the time it genuinely takes you to get wax onto your floor, and a safety allowance. This guide cannot give you the second number — it depends on your pincode, your approval process and the season — so measure it from your last few orders. The example below uses illustrative volumes, CSI's listed 10 kg prices and a one-week lead time that is a placeholder, not a CSI delivery commitment.

Notice the last row: reorder points are set and checked per wax. Fourteen bags mean nothing if all are CSI 464 and the pillar line is on its last bag.

Documentation and delivery checks

Manufacturing for retailers, hotels or corporate buyers brings paperwork, best agreed before the first large order. CSI handles GST invoicing, MSDS and IFRA documentation on WhatsApp. Ask for what your own customers ask you for — a GST invoice with your GSTIN, an MSDS for each line's wax, IFRA documentation for each fragrance oil — and file it by product line, not by order date.

The batch log connects the rest. When a candle comes back, you should be able to go from its batch date to the wax delivery it came from, the oil grams weighed and the temperatures actually recorded. That trail is also the honest answer to a buyer who asks how you keep candles consistent.

Above 10 kg: listed ceilings and how quotes work

CSI lists soy wax up to 10 kg bags on CSI 464, Luxury Soy Chunks, CSI 468 and Soy Pillar Wax, 5 kg on Eco Soy CSI 400 and 50 kg on Natural Soy Pearl Wax. No 25 kg or 100 kg soy pack is listed. Above those sizes, the largest listed packs multiplied out are the ceiling you would pay on the website; recurring volumes are quoted on WhatsApp, and this guide does not predict the quote.

Two honest observations. Listed per-kilo prices are flat from 1 kg to 10 kg on most of these waxes, so the website gives no reason to stockpile: 100 kg of CSI 464 costs ₹507.40 a kilo either way. The case for larger commitments is continuity of supply and a recurring-pricing conversation, not a listed discount. And the two cheapest waxes per kilo are the two that publish no load — the ₹82.60 a kilo between Natural Soy Pearl Wax and CSI 464 is real money at 100 kg, but it buys a wax you must specify yourself.
