What fragrance load stops soy candles sweating in Indian summers? Work in a band of 8–10% of wax weight rather than at the ceiling. In a 200 g candle that is 16–20 g of oil. Where a wax page states up to 13% and the oil page states a soy range of 6–10%, the lower figure governs.
Does sweating mean the candle is unsafe? No. Beads of fragrance oil are a cosmetic and a returns problem, not a safety one. Wipe the surface with a clean tissue, keep the candle cool and level, and burn it normally. What it does mean is that the recipe has no summer headroom, and the next hot week will do it again.
Is it my wax, my oil or my storage? In summer it is usually all three at once, and storage is the cheapest to change. A candle needs a load near the ceiling, weeks at 33–40°C, daily heating and cooling, and trapped air against the surface. Remove any one of those four and the beading usually stops.
Why a candle that was clean in February beads in May
Sweating is fragrance oil arriving at the surface of a set candle instead of staying inside it. The mechanism is one sentence. A soy wax holds a certain amount of fragrance oil inside its solid structure, and the amount it holds comfortably falls as the wax warms and the structure loosens. That is general candle-making practice rather than a published CSI measurement, and it is why the same recipe behaves differently in two seasons. If you poured with a margin — the wax could have held more than you gave it — there is room to lose some capacity and still hold everything. If you poured at the maximum stated on the wax page, there is no margin, and the first sustained warm spell pushes the excess out.
That explains the timing, but not the accumulation. A candle does not bead on one warm afternoon and then stop. It beads a little on the first hot day, re-sets overnight into a slightly different structure, beads again the next afternoon, and after two or three weeks there is a visible film. Oil that has reached the surface does not simply go back in when the room cools, which is why the problem always looks worse in the third week of a heatwave than in the first. It is also why a candle that sat in a shop for six weeks in May looks worse than an identical candle you burned the day you made it.

Dwell time and cycling: the two things Indian summers do that a hot afternoon does not
Dwell time is how long the candle spends warm. A candle that reaches 38°C for two hours in the afternoon and cools to 27°C by ten at night has a very different summer from one that sits between 33°C and 38°C for three weeks without ever properly cooling. The second is far harder on a load with no reserve, and it is the normal condition of stock in a closed storeroom, in a stacked carton in the middle of a pallet, or in a shop that shuts at nine and opens at eleven.
Cycling is the number of times it goes up and down. Each warm phase moves a little oil towards the surface and each cool phase re-sets the wax around what is left. Repeating that daily for a season is what turns an invisible margin into a visible film. This is why the same candle sold in two Indian cities can behave differently for reasons that have nothing to do with which city is hotter on paper.

None of those temperature descriptions is a CSI measurement — they are the patterns Indian makers describe, listed so you can recognise which one you are in. The useful step is to stop reasoning about your city and start measuring your shelf. Headroom: the number that decides whether summer shows
Fragrance load here, and on CSI's product pages, is a percentage of wax weight. For a 200 g candle: 8% is 16 g of oil, 10% is 20 g, 13% is 26 g. The wax page states a maximum for the grade — CSI 464 up to 10%, Luxury Soy Wax Chunks and CSI 468 up to 13%, with Eco Soy CSI 400 not publishing one. The oil page, where it states a range, gives its own figure for soy: Dark Vanilla states 6–10% of total wax weight. When the two differ, the lower one governs. A 13% wax carrying a 6–10% oil is a 10% candle.

That last figure is the part worth arguing with your own instincts about. Pouring at the ceiling all summer does not only put the surface of the candle at risk; it also spends a kilogram of oil more per hundred candles than an 8% pour of the same oil. Storage and packaging: where summer sweating is actually created
The candle you poured is only half the story. Between the pour and the sale it sits somewhere, usually for longer than you think, and that somewhere decides whether the recipe's headroom is ever tested. This is the cheapest part of the whole problem to fix, and the part makers change last.

Two details that are specific to Indian production. First, most small makers store stock in the same room they pour in, which is the warmest room in the house on pour day — move the finished stock out before you start the next melt. Second, festive production compresses everything: if you are pouring for Diwali on 8 November 2026, the candles need to be poured by about mid-October to allow a 14 to 21 day cure plus transit, which means a large batch sitting boxed through the last warm weeks of October. Date the cartons, keep them low and internal, and do not wrap anything that is still warm from the pour.
The ten-day summer sweat test
This is deliberately a small test, because the point is to isolate one thing. Everything is identical except the load and the storage: same wax, same oil, same wick, same jar, same melt, same pour temperature, same day. Nine jars in CSI 464 with Dark Vanilla come to ₹2,388.58 in materials.

Fixing it in order of cost
Work down this list and stop at the first thing that fixes it. Each step is cheaper than the one below, and each is easier to undo.
1 · Move the stock, and unwrap it
Lowest shelf, internal wall, out of any sealed bag, single layer rather than stacked. Wipe the existing beads off with a clean tissue and leave the candles uncovered and level for 48 hours in the coolest place you have. Re-photograph. If the beading does not return over the following fortnight, you have fixed it for nothing.
2 · Bring the load into the band
Move to 8–10% of wax weight, weighed, and take the lower of the wax ceiling and the oil page's soy range. This saves money as well as surfaces: ₹76.46 a candle from 13% to 8% with Dark Vanilla. Re-pour a small batch, cure it 14 days, and store it beside the old one so you are comparing like with like.
3 · Change the container or the pack
A lid protects a summer surface from dust and airflow, and it is the change that most improves how a slightly softened candle looks to a customer. If you have been shrink-wrapping, stop wrapping warm candles. If cartons are stacked, restack weekly or store in a single layer through the hottest weeks.
4 · Change the wax, last
A grade change follows every candle you make afterwards, so it belongs at the bottom of the list. If you do get here, the useful direction is usually towards a lower stated ceiling rather than a higher one — CSI 464 at up to 10% makes it harder to over-dose than a 13% grade does. Compare two grades side by side at the same load, in your own room, with everything else identical, and give the comparison 14 days before you decide.
What sweating is not
It is not a safety problem. Fragrance oil at the surface of a candle is a cosmetic and a customer-confidence issue. Wipe it with a clean tissue, keep the candle level and cool, trim the wick and burn it normally. If a wick is coated in oil, wipe it and let it dry before lighting. Sweating does not make a candle dangerous, and telling a customer it does helps nobody.
It is not frosting, and it is not a wet spot. Frosting is a white crystalline bloom on the surface of soy and is normal in natural wax — the live guide on why soy wax frosts covers it honestly. A wet spot is an air gap where wax has released from the glass and it feels dry to the touch. Sweating is oily and transfers to your finger. Three different problems, three different fixes, and confusing them wastes a season.
It is not automatically a reason to buy something. The three cheapest fixes on this page cost nothing, and the fourth is to buy less fragrance oil. A maker who moves stock off a hot shelf, waits for candles to cool before packing and drops from 13% to 8% has spent nothing, saved ₹7,646.00 per hundred candles, and usually solved the problem. That is a worse outcome for a raw-material supplier and a better outcome for you, and we would rather write it down than have you re-pour a Diwali batch in October.
Finally, what is not published. CSI does not publish sweating, hot-storage or heat-resistance data for any grade, and the fragrance ceiling for Eco Soy CSI 400 is not published either. Where a number exists on a product page it is quoted here; where it does not, the answer is to test conservatively and to ask on WhatsApp rather than to work from a figure somebody guessed.
