Best Candle Fragrances for Bridesmaid Hampers
How much oil does a set of six need? 48g for six 100g candles at an 8% load — 8g each. One 50g bottle covers a whole single-scent set. Six different scents in 15g costs ₹627; the same six in 50g costs ₹1,596.
What should I charge? ₹999–₹1,099 per candle, about ₹6,000 for a personalised set of six. All-in cost is near ₹455 per unit once labour and label artwork are counted.
How far ahead? Eight weeks from enquiry to handover, of which 14 days is cure and cannot be compressed. For the November–February wedding peak, that means September enquiries.
Why the bride is a different buyer from a planner
Favour candles and family hampers are procurement: someone with a budget line orders 250 units, negotiates, and does not care what the candle is called. A bridesmaid hamper is the opposite — four to ten units, ordered by the bride herself, paid for out of her own money, for people she has known since school. She is not comparing quotes; she has decided what she wants and is looking for someone who can execute it.
She is emotionally invested, so she will pay for detail a planner would strike out — a scent per person, a hand-written note, a ribbon matched to the mehendi outfits. But the order is tiny, so none of your usual levers work: no setup cost over 250 units, no kilogram of oil to amortise. Price a bridesmaid set like a favour order and you either work for free or lose the job over ₹80.
They are also photographed and posted — a proposal-box reel, a bachelorette flat-lay, then the bridesmaids' own feeds. Six units reach an audience a 250-unit favour order never touches.
The scent brief for a younger recipient
Most bridesmaids are in their twenties and early thirties, and their reference points are body mists and eau de parfums, not incense. The oud, smoke and deep spice that make a family or VIP hamper feel appropriately serious read as heavy and slightly old here. What works is fresh-sweet: berry, melon, peach, cherry blossom, light florals with a sugar edge, coconut or vanilla as a base rather than the whole story. The test is wearability — if it could plausibly be a body spray she already owns, it belongs in this hamper.
Third, cold throw in a closed box. A hamper sits sealed for days, and the opening is almost always filmed. Bright fruit and berry oils have strong cold throw, so the box smells of the candle the moment the lid lifts; heavier resinous oils give nothing until lit. That asymmetry alone favours the fruit-forward end of this list.
The eighteen oils, with cost per candle at 50g, 100g and 200g
Costs below assume an 8% fragrance load — 4g of oil in a 50g candle, 8g in a 100g, 16g in a 200g — priced at the 100g bottle rate, the realistic purchase size for several small sets a season.

The right-hand columns make one thing obvious: fragrance is never why a bridesmaid candle is expensive. At 100g the entire spread is ₹30.24 to ₹95.92 — about ₹66, less than the gap between two vessels. Pick the scent that fits the recipient.

Eight of the eighteen ship in 15g — one personalised 100g candle with 7g spare. The ten starting at 50g, including every BBW-inspired oil, force a ₹250–₹600 commitment per scent whether you use 8g or not.
Six of the eighteen do the heaviest lifting. Card figures are for a 100g candle at an 8% load, or 8g of oil.

The small-batch problem: one bottle is one set
Here is the arithmetic that defines this category. A 200g candle at an 8% load uses 16g of oil, so 100g of fragrance makes six 200g candles — and a bridesmaid set is six candles. At the largest format anyone would use, one set is almost exactly one 100g bottle.
Scale down to the format you should pour. A 100g candle at 8% uses 8g, so six need 48g — one 50g bottle covers a whole single-scent set and leaves 2g behind. At the 50g heart-jar format it is 4g each: half a bottle. You never buy 500g or 1kg for a bridesmaid hamper. You buy it because you have booked five of them.
The problem arrives when the bride asks for a scent per bridesmaid, which is the whole point of the product. You need 8g of six oils, but you cannot buy 8g — the minimum is 15g on eight of the eighteen and 50g on the rest. Six 15g bottles is ₹627 to use 48g of 90g. The same six in 50g is ₹1,596 to use 48g of 300g, with 252g of part-used bottles against one small order.
| Route | Oil bought | Spend | Used | Oil cost per candle |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Six 15g bottles Strawberries, Peach Melon Berry, Honeydew, Cherry Blossom, Spicy Raspberry, Solar Bloom |
90g | ₹627 | 48g (53%) | ₹104.50 |
| The same six in 50g | 300g | ₹1,596 | 48g (16%) | ₹266.00 |
| Six BBW-inspired oils, 50g minimum Butterfly, Dahlia, Gingham Heart of Gold, Into The Night, Forever Red, Mahogany Teakwood |
300g | ₹3,064 | 48g (16%) | ₹510.67 |
| One shared scent, one 50g bottle Fresh Strawberries |
50g | ₹212 | 48g (96%) | ₹35.33 |
The spread between the cheapest and dearest way to scent the same six candles is roughly fifteen to one, and none of it is visible to the customer. That is how makers lose money here: they quote off the wax and jar, agree to six scents as a friendly extra, and find the extra cost ₹1,384.
Order sizing is simple. 15g personalises a single unit. 50g covers a set sharing one scent. 100g is for two bookings, or a scent that has joined your house range. 500g and 1kg are for makers running bridesmaid sets alongside favour or hamper production, where one oil covers ten or twenty sets — on Fresh Strawberries ₹3.78 per gram at 100g falls to ₹3.54 at 1kg, about 6%. A 6% saving on a scent you use twice a year is not a saving.
The personalisation economics, with the maths
Because there is no volume, personalisation is the only place your margin can live — and that is not a consolation prize: its cost is predictable and its perceived value is anchored to nothing the customer can price-check. Three levels.
One: the name on the label — one scent, six labels, one design and ten minutes. Two: a scent matched to each person — six melts, six pot cleans, six part-used bottles. Three: a bespoke box — colour-matched filler, ribbon, a card in the bride's words. Include level one in every set. Two and three are where you price.
Worked example: six personalised 100g candles, end to end
One bride, six bridesmaids, six scents, six names, each candle boxed individually and shipped together. 100g candle at an 8% load — 8g of oil, 92g of wax — in a 130ml glass jar. Every input is CSI stock at live August 2026 pricing.
| Line | What | Basis | Per candle |

| Labour | Six melts, six pot cleans, labelling and packing | 3.5 hrs @ ₹250 ÷ 6 | ₹145.83 |
| Label artwork | Professional Graphic Design Services | ₹2,360 ÷ 72 candles (12 sets a season) | ₹32.78 |
| All-in cost | ₹455.46 | ||
Six candles at ₹455.46 is ₹2,732.76 for the job, of which ₹1,661.10 is materials paid before you pour. Materials come to 27.7% of a ₹1,000 price rather than the usual 30–35% — not an error, but the shape of a personalised small run. Labour and design carry the price.
| Version | Cost per candle | Job cost | Price per candle | Set price | Gross margin |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| One shared scent, six names on labels | ₹239.35 | ₹1,436.10 | ₹599 | ₹3,594 | ₹2,157.90 |
| Six scents, six names, individual boxes | ₹455.46 | ₹2,732.76 | ₹999–₹1,099 | ₹6,000 | ₹3,267.24 |
Personalisation costs ₹1,296.66 more to deliver and earns ₹2,406 more, so gross margin rises by ₹1,109.34 on under four hours of extra work spread across two months. That is the whole commercial case for this category, and why a maker with no factory can run bridesmaid sets profitably while losing money on 500-unit favour orders.
Vessels, packaging and the photograph
The most useful costing fact here: a 100g candle costs about ₹50 more to make than a 50g one and looks twice as generous. Wax and vessel are ₹72.60 at 50g against ₹102.20 at 100g, plus about ₹20 more oil. Default to 100g; treat 50g as an add-on.
| Vessel | Fill | Best for | Per unit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Heart Cutout Velvet Jar (Red) | 50g | Proposal boxes, add-on units, the shot that gets posted | ₹45 · ₹225 per 5 · ₹450 per 10 |
| Heart Cutout Velvet Jar (White) | 50g | The same in white, for pastel and ivory hamper palettes | ₹45 · ₹225 per 5 · ₹450 per 10 |
| Yankee Glass Jar 130 ML | 100g | The default bridesmaid candle; buyable in singles | ₹47 |
| Pink Shiny Glass Jar with Golden Lid | 200g | A single larger candle for the maid of honour | ₹47 · ₹236 per 5 |
| Pink Glass Jar with Golden Lid (150g) | 150g | Premium tier where the vessel does the work | ₹107 · ₹1,070 per 10 |
| Pink Glass Votive Jar 70 gram | 70g | Cheapest photogenic option for larger bridal parties | ₹36 · ₹180 per 5 |
The heart cutout velvet jars deserve a note. At ₹45 they are the only 50g vessel here a bridesmaid photographs without being asked: velvet reads as luxury through a phone camera in a way glass does not, and the cutout makes the flame visible from the side — the difference between a still and a video worth posting. In a proposal box the ₹45 is doing marketing work, not just holding wax. Both red and white come in packs of 1, 5 and 10, so six costs ₹270 with no dead stock.
Buy from the packaging range and accept that pack sizes exceed your order. Fifty corrugated boxes at ₹1,121 against ₹134.52 of use is real cash, but boxes do not expire and the season's next bookings cost nothing. Charge the unit rate and treat the rest as stock already paid for — likewise crinkle filler, stocked in pink, red, cream and brown.
Photography is not optional here. The photograph is the only asset you keep — once the box ships you never see those candles again, and they cannot be re-shot because they carry someone else's name. Shoot on the day the cure ends: six in a row, names legible, 4:5 crop. Lifestyle photography is ₹2,360 and amortises across the season like the label artwork.
Working back from the wedding date
Bridesmaid hampers are not wedding-day items. They are given at the proposal stage, the bachelorette or the mehendi, or posted two weeks ahead so bridesmaids travelling in get them before they fly. Assume handover one to two weeks before the wedding unless told otherwise.
The Indian season runs broadly November to February and again April to June, its November–December peak sitting on top of Diwali on 8 November 2026. A wedding in the third week of November needs fragrance ordered in the first week of October, and every production week from mid-October competes with your Diwali pour. Order for both together in late August or early September — the same 500g bottle covers ten bridesmaid sets and a festive run, the one circumstance where bulk makes sense here.
Wax compatibility and load ceilings
Every oil here works across the CSI soy range. What changes with the wax is your maximum fragrance load, and the load determines throw. Overshooting does not make a stronger candle; it makes one that sweats oil onto a label with someone's name printed on it.
| Wax | Best for | Load | From |
|---|---|---|---|
| Luxury Soy Wax Chunks | Jar and container candles; the default for bridesmaid sets | Up to 13% | ₹299 / 500g |
| Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 (flakes) | Single-pour containers, low frosting, strong glass adhesion — best where the surface is photographed | Up to 10% | ₹260 / 500g |
| Eco Soy CSI 400 | Small batches and one-pour work; creamy finish, no additives | Standard | ₹399 / 1kg |
| Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468 | Premium tier; smoother top and a softer, fuller throw | Standard | ₹325 / 500g |
| Soy Pillar Wax | Moulded shapes if the set includes a non-jar piece | Standard | ₹300 / 500g |
For a photographed candle, CSI 464 earns its 10% ceiling: low frosting and glass adhesion keep the surface clean two weeks after pouring. For the 13% load — useful with lighter fruit oils, which benefit from running at the top of the range — use Luxury Soy Wax Chunks and accept more surface variability. Never quote a universal ceiling: it belongs to the wax you bought.
CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. We do not sell bridesmaid hampers and we are not competing with the makers who do. We stock 92 fragrance oils from ₹300 to ₹24,000 per kilogram, which means we have no reason to steer a six-unit order toward an expensive oil — and every reason to tell you that on this product the oil is the smallest line on the invoice.
Every price, size and product link here is live CSI stock in August 2026 and links to the product page, where current pricing always takes precedence. The cost-per-candle and set-pricing figures are calculated from named inputs at stated pack rates, so you can substitute your own vessel, labour rate or packaging and rerun the arithmetic. Labour is shown at a notional ₹250 per hour; adjust it to your own and the conclusion does not change, because the labour differential between one melt and six is structural.
