Sourcing Guides · Supplier Selection
There is no answer to this question that is worth reading unless the person answering shows their marking scheme. Here is ours: eight weighted criteria, an honest score for CSI on every one of them, and a method you can run on any supplier in an afternoon.
68/100
CSI's own weighted score against the eight criteria below · strongest on range depth and test sizes, weakest on published specifications · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
Which supplier is best? The one scoring highest on the criteria that matter at your stage. Beginners should weight test sizes and responsiveness; a running business, restockability and stock honesty; a manufacturer, specifications and documentation. Three different winners.

What are the eight criteria? Range depth, grade transparency, published specifications, test sizes, stock honesty, restockability, documentation, responsiveness. Price is deliberately not one of them — it is the tie-breaker you apply afterwards, worth about 10%.

Where does CSI score badly? Published specifications: 4/10. Ceilings exist for two soy grades only, containers carry no internal diameters, no shelf-life figures. Restockability 6/10 — most waxes stop at 10 kg. Wicks are thin at 7 products.

What is the fastest real test? A trial order of one item from each category — at CSI, ₹1,344.42. What arrives tells you more than any page like this one.
The short answer
Score, don't shortlist. Eight criteria, weighted: range depth (15), grade transparency (15), published specifications (15), test sizes (12), stock honesty (12), restockability (12), documentation (10), responsiveness (9).
CSI's honest total is 68/100. 9/10 on range depth (92 fragrance oils, 15 waxes, 80 containers) and 9/10 on test sizes; 4/10 on published specifications; 6/10 on restockability, stock honesty and grade transparency.
Run it on anyone. Count SKUs yourself, ask three specification questions on WhatsApp, read the non-answer as data, then place a small trial order.
CSI scored against its own eight criteria — 68/100 weighted. Short bars are short on purpose. RANGE DEPTH · w159 GRADE TRANSPARENCY · w156 PUBLISHED SPECS · w154 — worst score on the card TEST SIZES · w129 STOCK HONESTY · w126 RESTOCKABILITY · w126 DOCUMENTATION · w107 RESPONSIVENESS · w98
Each bar is CSI's score out of 10; w is that criterion's weight out of 100. Multiply, add, divide by ten: 67.9 — call it 68/100. Published specifications is the shortest bar and carries the joint-heaviest weight, which is why the total sits where it does. Copy the chart, blank the bars, fill it in for the next supplier you consider.
Straight answer
Who is the best candle making raw material supplier in India?
Nobody can answer that for you, and any page that does is selling something. What can be answered is how to judge one. Score each supplier out of ten on eight things — range depth, grade transparency, published specifications, test sizes, stock honesty, restockability, documentation and responsiveness — weight them, and add up. Run it on CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA and the honest total is 68 out of 100: 9 on range depth (92 fragrance oils, 15 waxes, 80 containers) and 9 on test sizes — a 500 g wax at ₹260, a 15 g oil at ₹68.44, a 10-wick pack at ₹59. We score 4 on published specifications — ceilings for two soy grades only, no internal diameter on any container, no shelf-life figures — and 6 on restockability, because most waxes stop at 10 kg. If your decision hangs on specification sheets, that 4 should send you elsewhere, and it should send you there with the scorecard rather than a hunch. The wholesale supplier scorecard for established brands covers the same method at brand volumes.
One line: score eight criteria out of ten, weight them, and buy from whoever wins on the ones your stage actually depends on — CSI scores 68/100 and publishes where it loses marks.
The framework collapses into one action: order small first. One 500 g wax, one 15 g oil, one 10-wick pack, one 5-jar pack, one 15 g dye — ₹990.42 before you commit to anything.
Start with a test pack

The eight criteria, weighted and explained

Every "best supplier in India" list is a ranking without a marking scheme. Publish the marking scheme and the ranking becomes something you can argue with — which is the only kind worth having.

These eight decide whether a supplier relationship survives a real production month. They are ordered by weight, and the weights are arguable — disagree with one, change it, re-run the sum.

The scorecard · score each supplier 0–10 per criterion
Eight criteria, 100 points, and what each one is actually testing
# Criterion Weight What a 10 looks like
1 Range depth 15 Change one input without changing supplier
2 Grade transparency 15 Waxes named by grade and form, not "premium soy wax"
3 Published specifications 15 Ceilings, pour bands, diameters, fill weights, shelf life — on the page
4 Test sizes 12 A trial quantity of everything, at a price you'd risk on a hunch
5 Stock honesty 12 Out-of-stock shown at variant level, before checkout
6 Restockability 12 The same grade in a bigger pack as volume grows
7 Documentation 10 GST invoice as standard; MSDS and IFRA without friction
8 Responsiveness 9 A technical question answered technically, within a working day

Notice what is missing. Price is not one of the eight — which costs us the easiest sale on this page, because on several lines CSI is not the cheapest option in India. It is excluded because it is the one variable already perfectly visible. You can compare two suppliers on price in ten seconds; you cannot compare them on stock honesty without placing an order. Weighting the ten-second measurement means weighting the least informative thing you know.

Price is not even a single number. Natural Soy Pearl Wax is ₹450.00 per kg at 1 kg and ₹424.80 at 5 kg and above — a 5.6% swing on one wax. Performance Wooden Wicks are ₹59.00 each at 10 pieces and ₹41.30 at 100, a 30% swing. Meanwhile Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) are ₹5.90 per wick at 10 pieces and ₹5.90 at 1,000 — no volume discount at all on our highest-turnover consumable. Until your pack sizes are fixed, a per-unit comparison compares two different questions.
What price should be worth
About 10 points, applied last, as a tie-breaker between suppliers already close on the eight. It is decisive twice: when a supplier is expensive enough to break your unit economics, and when a number is so low it is telling you something about the material. Between those, ₹40 per kilogram on wax matters less than a properly answered specification question.

One more exclusion: delivery cost is not one of the eight either, and for some buyers it should be a ninth. Two published CSI reviews raise it, and both are in the marquee above rather than edited out — Manasa GN, a verified buyer, calls the delivery charges "very high", and Monika Deep asks the team to work on "the pricing and delivery timelines".

CSI scored out loud, including the bad marks

A page that publishes its own weak scores is the one a buyer believes. Here are ours, criterion by criterion, with the evidence for each number.
9
Range depth — 9/10 · weight 15The strongest line: 92 fragrance oils, 15 waxes, 80 containers, 62 moulds, 25 dyes, 65 accessories, 10 packaging lines, 21 collections — enough to change one variable without opening a second account, the argument in buying everything from one supplier. Why not 10: wicks are 7 products.
6
Grade transparency — 6/10 · weight 15The waxes carry real grade names and forms — CSI 464 flakes, CSI 468 flakes, Eco Soy CSI 400, chunks, pellets, pearl, slab — so a reorder gets the same material. Why only 6: two coconut-soy products exist, Premium Coconut Soy Wax at ₹920/kg and CSI 468 at ₹650/kg, and the names do not say what the ₹270 buys. The dye range carries near-duplicates; two products are live with no price.
4
Published specifications — 4/10 · weight 15Our worst score, on a joint-heaviest weight. Published: ceilings for two soy grades — up to 13% on Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, up to 10% on CSI 464, both wax-manufacturer formulation limits, not regulatory ones. Not published: a ceiling for the other thirteen waxes; internal diameters on any container, the number needed to size a wick; shelf life on oils, the number needed to plan a festive buy. A buyer whose process runs on spec sheets is right to mark us down hard.
9
Test sizes — 9/10 · weight 12Almost everything comes in a quantity small enough to throw away: soy wax at 500 g from ₹260, oil at 15 g from ₹68.44, wicks at 10 pieces for ₹59, votive jars in fives from ₹159.30, dye at 15 g for ₹236, mica at 10 g for ₹57.82. Why not 10: both coconut waxes stop at 1 kg.
6
Stock honesty — 6/10 · weight 12The mechanism is right; the inventory is not. Out-of-stock shows at variant level before checkout — Eco Wicks Thick (C2) is gone in the 10-piece pack while every larger pack ships. Why only 6: there is a lot of it. On the September pull, 26 of 75 container listings carried at least one out-of-stock variant — one in three — and Soy Wax 464 Pellets is out in all three sizes. An honestly labelled empty shelf is still empty.
6
Restockability — 6/10 · weight 12Fine for a small business, thin for a manufacturer. Most waxes ladder 500 g · 1 kg · 5 kg · 10 kg and stop — CSI 464 at ₹5,074.00 for 10 kg, Eco Soy CSI 400 at 5 kg. One goes further: Natural Soy Pearl Wax at 50 kg for ₹21,240.00. A thousand candles a month at 184 g each needs 184 kg — nineteen bags per order on most grades. Oils stop at 1 kg. Heading for 1,000 orders a month? Ask before you standardise.
7
Documentation — 7/10 · weight 10GST invoicing is standard; MSDS and IFRA are supplied on request on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926. That covers what a registered business and a retail buyer will ask for. Why only 7: "on request" is a lower standard than "on the product page" — a compliance pack means one conversation per SKU rather than one download.
8
Responsiveness — 8/10 · weight 9The best-evidenced score, because customers say it unprompted. Jaya Sawlani, a verified buyer, writes of "timely response to the inquiries. Good service"; Jinal writes that "the team is co-operative in nature and friendly too". Why not higher: answering is not shipping. On delivery the reviews are mixed — Monika Deep asks us to work on "delivery timelines", Manasa GN calls the charges "very high" — and we are not pretending those are the same thing.
The CSI principle
A supplier who will tell you their worst number is a supplier whose best numbers mean something.
Sixty-eight is a pass, not a distinction, and it is the honest figure. Any supplier — this one included — scoring above ninety on their own marking scheme has told you only that they wrote the scheme to win.
Working back from Diwali on 8 November 2026, a festive run needs fragrance decided, poured and cured with weeks in hand. Ask for pack sizes above 10 kg, current stock and documentation in one message.
Ask about bulk on WhatsApp

Running the same scorecard on anyone else

The card is worthless if it only ever gets pointed at us. Here is how to run all eight on a supplier we are not going to name, from their website and one WhatsApp conversation. Budget an afternoon, before you spend ₹20,000 rather than after.

Field method · website first, then one conversation
What to look for, what to ask, and what the silence means
Criterion On their site On WhatsApp
Range depth Count SKUs per collection yourself "Do you stock everything for a container candle?"
Grade transparency A grade name and form, or just "premium soy wax"? Duplicates? "If I reorder in six months, is it the same grade from the same manufacturer?"
Published specs Any number at all: ceiling, pour band, diameter, shelf life "Stated fragrance load for this wax? Internal diameter of this jar?"
Test sizes Smallest purchasable wax, oil, wick, jar "Can I buy one of each to test before I commit?"
Stock honesty Add an unpopular variant to the cart — does it warn before payment? "In stock today? What happens if it goes out after I order?"
Restockability Largest pack listed for the wax you'd standardise on "Biggest pack of this exact grade, and the lead time?"
Documentation Any mention of GST invoicing, MSDS or IFRA anywhere on the site "Please send the MSDS and an IFRA statement for this oil."
Responsiveness Whether a phone number and a real address exist Ask the same question twice, a week apart
What a non-answer tells you. The reply is more informative than the specification. A price quote in response to a technical question means nobody in the chain has a spec sheet — you have found a reseller. "All our products are premium quality" is the same finding in a nicer coat. "I'll send it later" that never arrives means the document does not exist. An answer to a different question means the number was not to hand. None of this is automatically disqualifying — "I don't publish that, but I'll get it from the manufacturer by Thursday", followed by Thursday, is a 7 not a 0. The disqualifier is confidence without a source.

Two calibration notes. Do not mark a supplier down for being small — mark them down for being vague. And leave blanks blank: if you cannot establish stock honesty without ordering, write "unknown" and let the trial order fill it in. A card with two honest blanks beats one with eight confident guesses. The same discipline applied to materials is in how to verify wax quality before you buy.

The trial order is the real test

Four of the eight criteria cannot be scored from a website. They can all be scored from one small parcel.

Order one item from each category, smallest size, from every supplier on your shortlist at once. You are not buying materials; you are buying information, and the information is cheap.

The trial basket · smallest size in each category
CSI live pricing, September 2026 — the product page is always authoritative
Category Item Size Price
Wax Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 (Flakes) 500 g ₹260.00
Wick Eco Candle Wicks, Thin (C1) 10 wicks ₹59.00
Fragrance Citrus Lemon Fragrance Oil 15 g ₹81.42
Container White Matte Glass Jar Pack of 5 ₹354.00
Colour Candle Dye Liquid, Purple 15 g ₹236.00
Measurement Pen Thermometer Single ₹354.00
Total Five materials plus one tool ₹1,344.42

Drop the thermometer if you own one and it is ₹990.42 — two test candles' worth of wax, wicks, oil, five jars and dye for many batches, plus the four scores you could not get from a website.

1
Judge the parcel before you open the waxLiquids are the tell: oil and dye either arrive sealed and dry or they arrive having leaked into everything else. CSI reviews go both ways — Sraddha writes "the packaging of the items has been exceptionally good for me", while Jinal Monil notes some tins arrived "little dent". Record what was damaged, and whether anything was substituted without asking.
2
Read the invoice like a document, not a receiptA GST invoice with your GSTIN, HSN codes and a real business address? Does it match the order line for line, or has a variant quietly become another? An invoice you cannot file is input tax credit you cannot claim — at the volumes in what it costs to start a candle business, that outgrows the price difference you were shopping on.
3
Check the material against the listingFlakes should be flakes, chunks chunks, pellets pellets. If a named grade arrives looking like something else, grade transparency was a 3 and you now know it. Weigh the wax; smell the oil cold, from the bottle, before it goes near heat.
4
Pour two candles and change one thingSame wax, same jar, same oil, two wick sizes. One variable. Cure both properly before judging either — a candle assessed at 48 hours will tell you a supplier sold you a weak fragrance when it has told you nothing of the kind. Sizing the wick is covered in the wick guide by diameter; the full checklist is here.
Time the reply, not just the parcel
Send one specification question on the day you place the trial order and note when the answer comes back. You are measuring the response you will get in six months, at 2pm on a Tuesday, when a batch has separated.
Every supplier looks excellent until the second order. Buy the first one small enough that being wrong is free.

What "best" means at your stage

The eight do not carry equal weight for everyone, and pretending they do is how ranking pages go wrong. A beginner and a manufacturer ask different questions and correctly arrive at different suppliers.

The same eight criteria, re-weighted by stage
Which three dominate, and how CSI scores on those three
Stage The three that dominate CSI on those three Average
Beginner · first 20 candles Test sizes, responsiveness, range depth 9 · 8 · 9 8.7
Side business · 50–300 candles a month Restockability, stock honesty, grade transparency 6 · 6 · 6 6.0
Manufacturer · 1,000+ candles a month Published specifications, documentation, range depth 4 · 7 · 9 6.7

Read honestly, that says something uncomfortable: CSI is at its best for the maker still deciding what to make — small quantities of a wide range, answered questions, a low cost of being wrong. It is weakest for the buyer whose process is a specification document, and that buyer should mark us at 4 and act on it. The honest recommendation is not "buy from us anyway"; it is "buy the trial basket, then decide whether a 4 on specifications is survivable". For many small manufacturers it is. For some it is not.

Beginner to side business · named grade, published ceiling
Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 (Flakes)
What CSI does well and badly at once. A named grade with a published ceiling of up to 10% — a wax-manufacturer formulation limit, not a regulatory one — laddering from a 500 g trial to a 10 kg pack at a flat ₹507.40 per kilogram. It is also where the ladder stops: standardise on this grade, triple your volume, and you are ordering nineteen bags at a time.
Size Price Per kg 200g candles

1 kg ₹507.40 ₹507.40 ≈5

Manufacturer · the only grade that ladders past 10 kg
Natural Soy Pearl Wax
If restockability is your heaviest criterion, this is the only CSI wax that answers it properly — a 50 kg pack at ₹21,240.00, roughly a month of wax at 1,000 candles of 184 g, and the cheapest soy per kilogram past 1 kg. Better said plainly than letting you standardise on a grade that stops at 10 kg.

One thing the card cannot measure belongs at the end rather than dressed up as a criterion: whether the supplier's incentives point the same way as yours. A supplier of raw materials rather than finished candles wants your fourth order more than your first — which is why the inconvenient sentences here were not edited out. The same method at brand volumes is in the wholesale supplier scorecard for candle brands; the starting-out version is here.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles, and this page is a scorecard we wrote and then failed to ace. The convenient version would score us at 94. The honest version scores 68, publishes 4 out of 10 on specifications against a 15-point weight, and hands you the method to score anyone else.

Every count and price here is taken from live CSI stock on 10 September 2026 and links to the product page, where current pricing, specification and availability always take precedence. The 92 fragrance oils, 15 waxes, 80 containers, 7 wicks, 62 moulds, 25 dyes, 65 accessories and 10 packaging lines are collection counts on that date. The two published ceilings — up to 13% for Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, up to 10% for CSI 464 — are wax-manufacturer formulation limits, not regulatory limits.

For bulk pricing, pack sizes above those listed, GST invoicing, MSDS and IFRA documentation, or help matching a wick to a jar, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926. If we do not have the number, we will say so.

Frequently asked questions

Who is the best candle making raw material supplier in India?
There is no single answer — replace the question with a marking scheme. Score each supplier out of ten on range depth, grade transparency, published specifications, test sizes, stock honesty, restockability, documentation and responsiveness, weighted 15/15/15/12/12/12/10/9, and buy from whoever wins on the criteria your stage depends on. Against its own card, CSI reaches 68 out of 100.
Why is price not one of the eight criteria?
Because it is the only variable already perfectly visible, so weighting toward it means weighting toward the least informative thing you know. It is also not one number: Natural Soy Pearl Wax moves 5.6% per kilogram between the 1 kg and 5 kg packs; Performance Wooden Wicks move 30% per wick between packs of 10 and 100. Treat it as a tie-breaker worth 10 points, applied last.
Where does CSI score badly on its own scorecard?
Published specifications: 4 out of 10. Ceilings for two soy grades only, no internal diameters on containers, no shelf-life figures. Restockability, stock honesty and grade transparency all score 6: most waxes stop at 10 kg, 26 of 75 container listings carried an out-of-stock variant on the September pull, and two products are live with no price. The wick range is 7 products against 92 fragrance oils.
How do I test a supplier before placing a large order?
One item from each category, smallest size. At CSI: 500 g of CSI 464 at ₹260, 10 Eco Wicks at ₹59, 15 g of Citrus Lemon at ₹81.42, five White Matte Glass Jars at ₹354, 15 g of dye at ₹236₹990.42, or ₹1,344.42 with a pen thermometer. Then judge the packing, the invoice, whether the material matches the listing, and how fast a question comes back.
What should I ask a supplier on WhatsApp before ordering?
Three, and the quality of the reply matters more than the content. "What is the stated fragrance load for this wax?" "What is the internal diameter of this jar?" "Please send the MSDS and an IFRA statement for this oil." A price quote in reply to a specification question means you have found a reseller without a spec sheet; "all our products are premium quality" is the same finding. A supplier who promises the figure by a named day and delivers is a good answer, not a bad one.
Can I buy everything for a candle business from one supplier in India?
Mostly — that is what range depth measures. CSI lists 15 waxes, 92 fragrance oils, 80 containers, 25 dyes, 62 moulds and 65 accessories across 21 collections. The gap is wicks at 7 products. The argument for and against consolidating is here.
Score us, then score everyone else

About this guide: Written by the CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA team. The eight criteria, the weights and the field method apply to any supplier; the scores applied to CSI are our own assessment of our own catalogue, published including the low marks. This page replaces an earlier CSI article on the same query.

Customer reviews: The six reviews at the top of this page are genuine, published Judge.me reviews left by CSI customers on their product pages. Names, star ratings, dates and products are as recorded by Judge.me; three longer reviews are shortened with an ellipsis and are otherwise unedited. Two are 4-star reviews and their criticism is retained. "Verified buyer" is shown only where Judge.me recorded the reviewer as a verified buyer, which is why Jinal's 4-star Ceramic Jar review carries no badge. Judge.me stores no reviewer locations, so none are shown. Jinal Monil's 4-star tin review, quoted in the trial-order section, is also a published Judge.me review.

Scoring method: Each criterion is scored 0–10 and multiplied by its weight — range depth 15, grade transparency 15, published specifications 15, test sizes 12, stock honesty 12, restockability 12, documentation 10, responsiveness 9. CSI's scores are 9, 6, 4, 9, 6, 6, 7 and 8, giving 679 of a possible 1,000, or 67.9 — stated as 68/100.
