Buy 1 Kg Vanilla Fragrance Oil for Candle Making in India

Which is the cheapest true vanilla? Cinnamon Vanilla at ₹4.555 per gram — 40.4% cheaper than Vanilla Bean, and still a vanilla on the label and in the room. If your margin is tight, start there.
Vanilla Bean or Dark Vanilla? Exactly the same price at all five pack sizes — ₹130 / ₹410 / ₹790 / ₹3,840 / ₹7,646. The decision is scent, not money.
Is the kilogram cheaper than two 500g packs? Barely, and once it is worse. Tobacco Vanilla saves ₹499, Vanilla Bean ₹34, and Dark Vanilla Oud's kilogram is ₹1 dearer than two 500g packs. 1 kg is the largest fragrance pack CSI sells — no 2 kg, 5 kg or 10 kg SKU exists.
All seven vanillas, cheapest per gram first
Every figure here is a live CSI variant price pulled on 25 September 2026. Rank the family by rupees per gram at the kilogram — that is the number that lands in your cost sheet — and the order is not what most makers expect: the two oils actually called vanilla sit fourth and fifth.
| Oil | 15g | 50g | 100g | 500g | 1 kg | ₹/g at 1 kg |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cinnamon Vanilla | ₹106.20 | ₹271.40 | ₹483.80 | ₹2,301.00 | ₹4,554.80 | ₹4.555 |
| Dark Vanilla Oud | ₹105.02 | ₹320.00 | ₹590.00 | ₹2,845.00 | ₹5,691.00 | ₹5.691 |
| Tobacco Vanilla | — | — | ₹799.00 | ₹3,999.00 | ₹7,499.00 | ₹7.499 |
| Vanilla Bean | ₹130.00 | ₹410.00 | ₹790.00 | ₹3,840.00 | ₹7,646.00 | ₹7.646 |
| Dark Vanilla | ₹130.00 | ₹410.00 | ₹790.00 | ₹3,840.00 | ₹7,646.00 | ₹7.646 |
| Vanilla Orange Blossom | — | ₹415.00 | ₹829.00 | — no 500g variant | ₹8,294.00 | ₹8.294 |
| Coffee Vanilla Tobacco | — | ₹449.00 | ₹899.00 | ₹4,399.00 | ₹8,599.00 | ₹8.599 |
Three notes. Not every vanilla ships in every size: Tobacco Vanilla starts at 100g, Vanilla Orange Blossom and Coffee Vanilla Tobacco at 50g, and only four of the seven have a 15g trial bottle. Vanilla Orange Blossom has no 500g pack, so the step from the 100g bottle to production stock is a ₹7,465 jump. And the per-gram curve inside one oil is shallow — Cinnamon Vanilla falls 35.7% from ₹7.08 at 15g to ₹4.555 at 1 kg, but only 1.0% from ₹4.602 at 500g.

Vanilla Bean and Dark Vanilla: the same price, twice
Vanilla Bean and Dark Vanilla are priced at ₹130 / 15g, ₹410 / 50g, ₹790 / 100g, ₹3,840 / 500g and ₹7,646 / 1 kg. Not similar — identical, at every tier, to the rupee, and both in stock on the September 2026 pull.
So the choice between them is a scent decision and nothing else. There is no per-gram comparison to run and no volume at which one becomes the better buy. Order 15g of each for ₹260, pour two test candles in the same wax, jar and load, cure them side by side and smell them blind — a ₹260 experiment deciding a ₹7,646 purchase.
Now the part that costs us money. The straight vanillas at ₹7,646 per kilogram are the dearest family in this cluster — dearer per gram than lavender at ₹5,221, sandalwood at ₹5,026.80 or roasted coffee at ₹3,738. Against Cinnamon Vanilla at ₹4,554.80 the gap is ₹3,091.20 a kilogram, 40.4% cheaper per gram: on a 200g candle at 8%, ₹72.88 of fragrance instead of ₹122.34. That is ₹49.46 per candle, ₹24,730 over a five-hundred-unit festive run.
What the kilogram actually saves you — and where it costs you ₹1
Most buying advice treats the largest pack as obviously correct. Here that fails often enough to check every time.
| Oil | 2 × 500g | 1 kg | Kilogram saves | As a % |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tobacco Vanilla | ₹7,998.00 | ₹7,499.00 | +₹499.00 | 6.2% |
| Coffee Vanilla Tobacco | ₹8,798.00 | ₹8,599.00 | +₹199.00 | 2.26% |
| Cinnamon Vanilla | ₹4,602.00 | ₹4,554.80 | +₹47.20 | 1.03% |
| Vanilla Bean | ₹7,680.00 | ₹7,646.00 | +₹34.00 | 0.44% |
| Dark Vanilla | ₹7,680.00 | ₹7,646.00 | +₹34.00 | 0.44% |
| Dark Vanilla Oud | ₹5,690.00 | ₹5,691.00 | −₹1.00 | −0.02% |
| Vanilla Orange Blossom | no 500g variant | ₹8,294.00 | not comparable | — |
Read the top and bottom of that table together. Tobacco Vanilla's kilogram is a real volume break — ₹499, or 6.2%, the best in the set. Dark Vanilla Oud's kilogram is ₹1 dearer than two 500g packs. The amount is trivial and that is the point: there is no automatic bulk discount, so the kilogram must justify itself on other grounds — one shipment, one batch code across a production run, and no risk of the 500g variant being out of stock when you need the second.
Yield, cost per candle and the threshold that justifies a kilogram
Fragrance load at CSI is a percentage of total finished candle weight, not of the wax: a 200g candle at 8% is 16g of oil and 184g of wax. Get the convention wrong and your order is out by roughly the load percentage.
| Candle | Load | Oil per candle | Candles from 1 kg | At ₹4.555/g (Cinnamon Vanilla) | At ₹8.599/g (Coffee Vanilla Tobacco) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 100g | 8% | 8g | 125 | ₹36.44 | ₹68.79 |
| 100g | 10% | 10g | 100 | ₹45.55 | ₹85.99 |
| 100g | 13% | 13g | 76 | ₹59.21 | ₹111.79 |
| 150g | 8% | 12g | 83 | ₹54.66 | ₹103.19 |
| 150g | 10% | 15g | 66 | ₹68.32 | ₹128.99 |
| 150g | 13% | 19.5g | 51 | ₹88.82 | ₹167.68 |
| 200g | 8% | 16g | 62 | ₹72.88 | ₹137.58 |
| 200g | 10% | 20g | 50 | ₹91.10 | ₹171.98 |
| 200g | 13% | 26g | 38 | ₹118.42 | ₹223.57 |
| 300g | 8% | 24g | 41 | ₹109.32 | ₹206.38 |
| 300g | 10% | 30g | 33 | ₹136.64 | ₹257.97 |
| 300g | 13% | 39g | 25 | ₹177.64 | ₹335.36 |
Now the question this page exists to answer: how many candles a month justify committing ₹7,646 to one scent? At 200g and 8% a kilogram is 62 candles. Hold no more than three months of any one scent and the threshold is 62 ÷ 3 ≈ 21 candles a month; at 10%, 17 a month; at 13%, 13.
That threshold is higher for an expensive oil, which is the opposite of bulk-buying instinct. All you forfeit by buying 500g now and 500g later is the volume break, and on Vanilla Bean that is ₹34 while deferring ₹3,840. At ten 200g candles a month a 500g pack lasts about three months, so you paid ₹34 to keep ₹3,840 for a quarter — roughly 3.5% a year. Below about 21 candles a month, take that trade.
On Tobacco Vanilla it inverts: ₹499 against ₹3,999 deferred is 12.5% over three months, about 50% a year. Nobody should pay that, so a six-month rule — roughly 10 candles a month — is enough there. The threshold rises with the oil's price and falls with the size of its volume break. Vanilla Bean is dear and has almost no break, so it carries the highest threshold in the family; the catalogue's cheapest kilogram, Citrus Lemon at ₹2,832, commits ₹4,814 less capital for the same weight.
Fragrance is usually the largest single line in a scented candle's bill of materials, and on a dear vanilla it is roughly half of it.
| Line | Product and pack bought | Unit cost | In this candle |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wax, 184g | Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464, 1 kg at ₹507.40 | ₹0.5074/g | ₹93.36 |
| Vessel | 200ml Salsa Glass Jar, golden lid, 50 pcs at ₹1,475 | ₹29.50 each | ₹29.50 |
| Wick | Eco Candle Wicks Thick (C2), 100 at ₹944 | ₹9.44 each | ₹9.44 |
| Wick sticker | Candle Wick Stickers, 1 sheet of 40 at ₹100 | ₹2.50 each | ₹2.50 |
| Care sticker | Candle Care Stickers Roll, 500 at ₹413 | ₹0.83 each | ₹0.83 |
| Everything except fragrance | — | — | ₹135.63 |
| Fragrance, 16g — Cinnamon Vanilla | 1 kg at ₹4,554.80 | ₹4.555/g | ₹72.88 → total ₹208.51, fragrance 35.0% |
| Fragrance, 16g — Vanilla Bean | 1 kg at ₹7,646.00 | ₹7.646/g | ₹122.34 → total ₹257.97, fragrance 47.4% |
| Fragrance, 16g — Coffee Vanilla Tobacco | 1 kg at ₹8,599.00 | ₹8.599/g | ₹137.58 → total ₹273.21, fragrance 50.4% |
That excludes labour, outer packaging, shipping, GST and wastage. The shape of the decision is clear: every other line together comes to ₹135.63, and one dear vanilla can exceed all of them combined. Switching this candle from Coffee Vanilla Tobacco to Cinnamon Vanilla takes materials from ₹273.21 to ₹208.51, a 23.7% reduction. The retail-pricing method is in the 2026 candle pricing guide, and the ordering side in how much fragrance oil a candle business needs.
Vanillin, discolouration, shelf life and storage
Vanillin is the principal compound that makes a vanilla smell of vanilla, and it appears — alongside relatives such as ethyl vanillin — across vanilla and gourmand compositions generally. It is also, as well-documented fragrance chemistry, prone to oxidising and darkening over time, and it carries that behaviour into whatever it is dissolved in. A white or ivory soy candle carrying a vanillin-rich fragrance tends to shift towards cream, then tan, faster in light and warmth.
Two things, plainly. This is a formulation reality, not a fault — it does not mean the oil has gone off or the candle is unsafe. And we will not tell you how any specific CSI vanilla behaves in your wax. We have published no discolouration test for these oils and will not invent one; how far a composition shifts depends on its formulation, your wax, dye, vessel, storage and climate. What we can give you is the test.
Storage protects the other half of the investment and costs nothing: keep the oil tightly closed, upright, out of sunlight, away from heat, at a stable room temperature. Decant working quantities rather than opening the kilogram forty times, since every opening introduces air. Keep it in the container it arrived in unless you know yours is compatible — fragrance oils attack some plastics. Label it with the date received and use oldest first.
A kilogram of a vanilla you sell all year is a stock item; a kilogram of one you sell only at Diwali is a seasonal bet. Diwali 2026 is on 8 November, and gourmands reward a long cure, so a festive range needs its oil in hand early enough to pour, cure and photograph before dispatch. The calendar is in how early candle brands should order fragrance oils for Diwali and the best fragrance oils for festive bulk orders; premium versus cheap fragrance oils covers what the money buys.
CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. The convenient advice would be to route every reader to the ₹7,646 kilogram. We have instead said that Cinnamon Vanilla at ₹4,554.80 is 40.4% cheaper per gram and satisfies most vanilla briefs, and that on Dark Vanilla Oud the kilogram is ₹1 worse than two 500g packs. Both cost us money; both are checkable in a minute.
Every price here is a live CSI variant price taken from the store on 25 September 2026 and linked to the product page, where current pricing always takes precedence. Nothing is estimated or carried over from an older article. Where an oil does not ship in a pack size, the table says so rather than filling the gap. One kilogram is the largest fragrance-oil pack CSI sells, and we publish no bulk slab, MOQ or credit term.
The ceilings quoted — 13% for Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, 10% for CSI 464 — are the wax manufacturers' stated formulation limits, not regulatory limits.
